I wanted to update my review as I went back today to talk about gas logs as I still hadn't found what I was looking for last year. With the cold weather coming, I wanted to try again. I received EXCELLENT customer service today and was thoroughly explained everything along the way. The sales rep even provided a few additional suggestions on ways I could save a little more money. I brought my sister to this store in hopes for her to find some extra Christmas goodies for her house. While looking around, I saw this Christmas Tree candle and had to have it. Unfortunately the display was the only one in the color and size I needed. A store manager just happened to be walking by and asked if I needed anything. After checking their under stock, she was willing to sell the display to me. After removing the batteries from the it, she boxed it up and asked if I needed anything additional. I told her I was still looking and she indicated if I needed anything additional to let her know. The customer service was beyond excellent in my opinion and now that I know all the awesome goodies they have, I will definitely be back for future items. read more

Having lived in Greensboro 1974 thru 1976 while getting my MFA at UNCG, I marvel today at the restaurants or stores, though they are few, that have survived all these years and still have a presence today. That's amazing! My hat is off to them!! Back in the '70's I remember going to the K&W cafeteria for lunch. I remember going to Toys and Company for kid's gifts at Friendly Shopping Center, and speaking of Friendly Shopping Center, I always headed to Fleet-Plummer for my hardware needs. I don't know if I ever told you this funny little story, but when I moved into my studio apartment on Mendenhall Street when I attended UNCG in the summer of 1974, I was missing New York Jewish food. I asked my landlady where I can find some bagels and she sent me to the frozen section of the grocery store for Lenders Bagels, and when I asked her where I could get some lox she replied, "Sugah, you can get all the locks you want at Fleet Plummer Hardware at Friendly Shopping center!!" As years went on Fleet Plummer left friendly and resituated themselves right off of Battleground Avenue. That's where they stand today as I headed up there the other day by myself to buy a nice outdoor dining room table and chairs for my new screened in back porch. They had a nice selection which I appreciated. You could tell that everything was very finely made of the highest quality. I had tried a couple of other stores like Ashley Furniture and Lowe's early that day, but Ashley had barely anything and Lowe's only had a few sets as well. This all looked very promising as soon as I arrived because outside in front of the store were several outdoor chairs, benches and tables. I headed inside and the selection at first glance looked more than ample for me to be able to find what I'm looking for. As I looked closer, I noticed that there were no options for a square or smaller rectangular table and therefore I zeroed in on their round tables. As solid and well made as they were, I just could not wrap myself around spending around $3,000 for a small round table and four chairs. I couldn't understand why the Ashley four top was $599 and this was $3,000? I just could not do it; not to mention I would have to wait a few months to get it and it does not come with pillows and there is still tax and delivery delivery. I was disappointed because I really wanted to buy something and I was willing to spend a few dollars but that was a bit much for me. I wanted something for my new screened porch. As I started to leave, I noticed in the window a really neat looking rolling cart. Although it was not specifically made for outdoors, it was made out of wood and metal and should be fine since my porch is covered, shaded and screened. It was $200 which also surprised me, but after looking at a $3,000 ticket item, suddenly $200 felt like chump change. What I liked about it was that it was attractive, simple, and could fit in my backseat so I could bring it home with me! I bought it!! Building my back screened porch and buying a sectional from Casual Furniture World and looking at outdoor dining sets at Fleet Plummer has given me a small glimpse into the way most people live, and why it's so easy to fall into debt. Unless you are well off, who can buy things like an outdoor sectional for $4500 and a outdoor cafe table for $3,000 on a regular basis? You put those kinds of things on your charge card regularly and you are screwed for life! Thank God, Grandpa taught me to pay with cash and this was a gift from my mom who passed away this year and left me an inheritance. Unfortunately, I did not see much more of Fleet Plummer in that I was focused on one thing, although I ended up buying something other than what I came in for! LOL . I cannot tell you what else was in the store, but if you are looking for outdoor furniture and have a few dollars in your pocket, they have some really nice things. But as for me, I stopped by Habitat for Humanity on the way home and picked up a nice round table for $45. I'll pick up a couple of outdoor chairs for 50 bucks at Walmart and I'll be fine for now! read more

My wife and I went into Fleet Plummer and they weren't very busy, several ladies at the front register, but no one spoke to us. No one said hello, or welcome to Fleet Plummer. We walked over to look at Grills! They have a Great selection of Big Green Egg Grills, Traeger Pellet Grills, and Weber Grills. There was one employee helping another customer while I was browsing, and another employee behind a counter 6-8 feet away. The employee behind the counter never spoke to us once. He didn't ask if he could help or even acknowledge our presence. When we were leaving no one said thanks for coming in or have a good evening or anything. Really disappointing. Fleet Plumber stocks high quality stuff, but try to find someone to help you! I walked in trying to buy 2 grates for my fireplaces. I'm not talking about big box store junk. I was looking for the sort of stuff that will survive a few seasons of hickory fueled, hot as a $2 pistol, see it from the space station types of fires. Fleet Plumber has them. I walked in ready to buy two! After about 5 mins of walking in front of the guy in that department who was on a personal call, standing at the grate display, walking to the really expensive ceramic grill display and opening a couple of those, I started to feel like an ugly girl at a frat party. So...here I sit at the casual / outdoor furniture store around the corner. Here's the deal. I walk in with money to spend on items on which you will presumably make a profit or commission, you put down the phone and help me do that!! Otherwise, your store is redundant! I can order stuff online with no assistance. I go to places like Fleet Plumber for a level of service that has lately become less and less evident at Fleet Plumber. read more

After trying unsuccessfully to get a gas fireplace replacement, with a store in Winston-Salem, we gave up after 9 months! Went to Fleet-Plummer (35 mile drive to Greensboro) and they had what we wanted! Took a few months to schedule our gas guy to install the unit. It worked fine for a couple weeks but the remote quit working. Thought it was something we had done but it took a couple months to get our gas guy to look at it. He discovered it was the remote. Went to the store, which is now 9 months after we bought it. My only complaint was it took forever to talk to someone on the floor. In their defense, they were providing customer service. So, when I finally got to talk to a guy, it was the owner! Told him what transpired and he said, I think we have one of those in the back room. He did and quickly replaced it. read more

We try very hard to support local businesses and have given this company three opportunities. They have struck out three solid times. Subpar support on their delivery, and service. Waaayyy too high pricing for the lack of support. Bought a table for our grill-was told it would fit-it didn't but it took a few weeks before we could get it put together. They won't honor it. They were months late on delivery of some back yard chairs-no apologies, no concerns and had to keep after them for delivery. Latest-we had some logs installed at the end of last season-have used them less than ten times. Stopped working -discovered their installers used old batteries for INSIDE the logs (didn't even know we needed them there as we weren't told or shown-sure it's in a manual in a link somewhere). Lots of pretty promises and very poor execution. Don't use them. read more

Never again!!!!! Although always courteous and generally professional, you dont always get what you expect when you pay top dollar. From the new salesman (although very nice) who was clueless about the product on their website I wanted, failure to order after confirming what I wanted, to having to cancel an install because of delay, further product delays, refusal to cancel and refund because of delay, down to the product being the WRONG ITEM FOR INSTALL according to PNG, the owner having to bring me a pan with sand to get the install completed and approved and our overall failure to communicate effectively throughout (I take some blame there) I will never do that again. I wld rather have looked at hideous stinky logs from Lowes than to EVER do that again!!!!!!! Beware, high prices don't guarantee satisfaction! read more

Our first experience with Fleet Plumber was when we built our house in 2003. We had a two-sided stone fire place and needed Glass Doors for each side. We went with rough measurements. They gave us a quote. We had their recommended person (at our expense) out to do laser measurements of the fireplace to get exact measurements for a snug fit. His measurements were millimeters off from ours. I went back to order with written estimate in hand. They stated that they had made a mistake and the glass doors would be twice what they had stated. No apology, no offer to give us a bit of a price break due to their mistake. I went to casual furniture world and I found the same glass doors (same manufacturer) for less than Fleet Plumber's ORIGINAL estimate (less than a quarter of their finial price). Fast forward 16 years and we are furnishing a beach house. After looking other places, I finally caved and gave Fleet Plumber another try. They do have an appealing showroom. I went in and saw something I liked. The salesperson, Tammy was very helpful. I ordered between $5K and $6K of furniture which is not that many pieces at this store. Told 4 - 6 weeks for delivery (but probably 5 weeks)I called back in 2 weeks to try to get an idea when the items would be ready. To me 2 weeks into a 4 - 6 week manufacturing process, the vendor will have an idea of where it is in production and a better estimate. Tammy flatly told me that making a call to the vendor would not be worth it at that time and that they would have a better idea at the 4 week mark (which was coincidentally the beginning of the window when it should be delivered). One might have thought the salesperson would at least have offered to put a note on their calendar and check with the vendor at that time and call the customer. No such offer was forthcoming. At the 4 weeks and 2 days after order placed, I called back and asked for a status on my order. This time a phone call to the vendor was placed but they are projecting that it will be ready at 6 weeks and day which is now being spun as the original commitment date. The suggestion was that I check back 4 days before the 6 week mark (which is 4 days before end of promised delivery window). Surprise, surprise, I call back on that date and I don't even get a call back. I go to the store and ask what the situation is. Tammy calls vendor but doesn't really get a commitment other than it will be ready in a week. Tammy still holds out hope that someway, somehow, it could miraculously be delivered what she is now spinning as early (around the last day of the delivery window). I'll give her this, she is an optimist. I am done with Fleet Plumber. If I could title this review, I would call it Nice Items in Showroom, Good Luck getting them on time or for price quoted. As another reviewer noted, one expects more service from a boutique store filled with expensive items. I have found that big box stores are more dependable and of course a lot less expensive. I came on here to grab the address for Fleet Plummer and am a little startled at the reviews--the filtered one (that doesn't count) is 5*, the one that remains a 1* with ... well, not a lot of detail. Both first reviews. Hmm. So with that, I will start with this much: I don't honestly care about the jewelry type stuff... but I get why it's there. There is a very large subset of the population that, while they are perfectly cozy with their family member's obsession with say grilling, couldn't care less apart from desperately needing to guard the mortgage against any unexpected liens for the purpose of, oh... a massive expensive and can we get a custom granite inlay on that? Weber grill... Now see, I love me some gorgeous grilling stuff but actually dislike the grilling part--I'll take a Viking megarange instead, kthx, or well Fire Magic, mmm yeah even I can go for a thousand degrees of holycrapthazhotstuff (they're the spinal tap 11)... In any case, this store has been here for an eternity and has gone from looking like a plain jane hardware store to looking like a confused teenager of a mixed blend to being run down for a while in the 80s to hitting a certain stride with the wealthy in particular. I say wealthy because it's EXPENSIVE WHOA. Then again, did anyone expect to be buying Weber and Fire Magic grills for the cost of a Wally World purchase? Perk here is they actually have people install who know what they're doing. You could get me to maybe buy something at Lowe's (last I went I couldn't find any USA-made anything amongst the tools I needed, which were several in number and type!) but you could NOT get me to hire them to install whatever I might get. At least in NC, anywhere that my parents grew up knowing has more at stake than a mass chain that can ignore failures because of sheer bulk. When I was growing up, it wasn't quite at this state of "serious buyer and otherwise bored browser" marital bliss, but they know about their grills and that's really what to me matters for this store (I'll admit, a LOT of the "boutique" things look like the very things I'd gulp at if gifted and later laugh my tush off when seeing a similarly horrified face at a white elephant party!) Female as I may be, you won't find me adorned in antique silver. You CERTAINLY won't find me decorating my house in roosters and cherubs. Yes, yes, yes, it does have some good-fortune-doesn't-equal-good-taste elements, but so what. Since I'll be splattered in sauce or drooling over homemade ice cream long before I'll be caught oogling over porcelain oddities (some novelties-made-to-be-novelties are cool though) that will go behind the glass prison walls of funny-named ornate encased shelves, well, hello, ma'am, I'll be over there with the dudes salivating over making thousand degree fire, ok? First, I'll crave a Fire Magic, then I'll think I came down to earth in seriously contemplating a Dimplex electric (I hate smelling like burning coals/wood anywhere but camp, and home is not camp! Don't sit on that cloth seat in those stinky pants!) only to see its price tag and slowwwly back away then be glad that in Greensboro, there ARE plenty of people to point to this store and similar ones and to let THEM make the fire and ME savor the noms. I'm alright without both the body funk AND the car-priced cooking toy. Still, I can drool--they have some great slate tables and such to help me envision a custom install--like an outdoor bar, 20' in semi-circumference, with that slate, trio of tables along a winding river rock walkway. Dream a little dreeeeam. That's why this store still exists. Cause we dream, and sometimes, when we dream big, bingo... this is where we go. Cause hey, would you rather keep these folks in business or keep some stock owners for Home Repo enjoying your frustrating customer service experience?
