Fortunately we discovered our hitch had been installed improperly before someone was killed from the hitch and trailer detaching from the car at highway speeds. They had left four of the bolts that hold the hitch to the car loose. The lock washers were so floppy they spun when you touched them. The wire harness was incorrectly installed so that it rubbed against bare metal instead of passing through the factory supplied rubber grommet and was beginning to cut into the wires. Lastly, they forgot to heat shrink the protective shrink wrap that keeps the brake controller wires from getting wet, corroding short circuiting. All three issues could lead to injury or death.
