Tried Flat Iron twice in a span of a week, first with a bunch of friends and took my kids again on the weekend. Obviously I liked the food, Flat Iron is part of 1771 Group of Restaurants, I also love the food at Café 1771, Chateau 1771, and Sentro 1771.The restaurant actually has the same name as one of New York's iconic buildings, The Flat Iron. But it is also the cooking tool used in most of their dishes. First off, I love the ambience, very bright with it's big windows, it's mix matched chairs, very modern and hip interiors. You also get a view of uptown Mall's famous Fountain. At night the lights of the fountain changes colors and every few minutes there is a burst of flames to the delight of my kids. To start we had Giant Gambas. And the pomelo Orzo Salad, so refreshing, the orzo pasta is sometimes mistaken as rice. The Tostado Adobo Wings would also be a good main dish if ordered with garlic rice on the side. Their Star Dish is the Flatiron Brisket 6,which they said is slow-cooked for at least six hours in the oven and finished off on the griddle. Comes with red and brown rice and carrot cucumber slaw and the yummy sauce which are the drippings from the brisket. To me the other star here is the Chicken Piccata, chicken breasts battered and fried in butter until crispy, sauced with a lemon butter sauce with a side of creamed spaghettini. The taste of the Lemon to me is what brings flavour to the dish. It's my favourite on the menu. Also tried the Pizzaiola Pasta, The only dish I think needs improvement.
We also tried the Flat Iron Steak served with Mashed potato and French fries, it's sauce is a winner, cherry tomato Worcestershire-balsamic Sauce. For Non meat eaters, try the Salmon Japanse Miso Glaze, The Sweetened Miso sauce is a perfect combination to the tender salmon chunk.
To cap off our meals, the desserts were another delight, we sampled the Intense Brownie Burger, which is coffee ice cream sandwiched by two Swiss fudge brownies with cashew bits and drizzled with Chocolate Mocha and toffee sauce. Th Rose Noire which was ganache, merengue and hazelnut praline drizzled with chocolate sauce and lastly, the group is know for it's coffee pie, it's chateau 1771's signature dessert. read more
