If you're looking for a place where you can let your hair down and go crazy, but the vibe at the BGC clubs are a bit way too hoity-toity for you, may I suggest you check out Black Market. The joint has an authentic industrial feel to it, because it was literally a warehouse back then. Black Market is perfect for those who want to want to go to a club and listen/dance to the latest club anthems, without feeling like you have to measure up to everybody. Well, you still kinda have to, but it's not as bad here. Black Market is the destination of choice for both up-and-coming and established local acts, as well as fringe international acts. Any given week, you'll get the best the local clubbing scene has to offer right at Black Market, AND you don't have to kill yourself looking the part. And if you feel the need to get some fancy drinks, you can go to Finders Keepers right beside Black Market, where the bartender will do an entire Cirque de Soleil routine on your cocktail, which you will then proceed to demolish in two minutes.

Neon pain under black light at the second floor. Really trippy!

Black Market is a unique place. Found in an unlikely area of Makati that isn't really known for its hip happenin' places, it feels as underground as the name suggests. You walk into a nondescript looking doorway, go through a short hall, and then walk into what looks like a warehouse that was turned into something that looks like it came out of a movie. But what's most interesting about Black Market isn't necessarily the location or the interior decor, but the people and the music being played. Like any regular will tell you, Black Market has featured some of the most talented DJs on the local and international scene. Want a place where it seems like people don't care one little bit about "being seen"? Then this place is definitely the place to go to. People here come for the music, and for the insane party that goes on every night this place is open. Definitely a must-try in the Manila night scene.

    Review Highlights - Black Market

Slipped upstairs to Mao Den for a bit--smaller room, tighter sound, killer cocktails--and it felt like its own little secret world.

Interiors are beautiful and cozy. The leather chairs, central bar, and decor take you to another world where you can enjoy your classic cocktail, scotch, or wine in utter opulence. The staff are always efficient and helpful when serving and suggesting drinks if you are feeling a little adventurous. Try the Negroni 1919 or the Espresso Martini. Good selection of wines too and a decent repertoire of Single Malts (for a price!). Bar chow is available too if you feel like you need more than the refillable snacks they serve you. It's also the perfect place to have an intimate conversation or a casual meeting. Cigar smokers and smokers alike will enjoy the fact that you can smoke here (sorry non-smokers!). Price points are expensive compared to your average bars or speakeasies but you're at The Peninsula after all. The overall feel is nostalgic, classic, and definitely for those who enjoy high quality cocktails and drinks in a place that makes you feel like you're transported to a bar in Cuba with different world music playing in the background.

The atmosphere is definitely a vibe--chill and social. Music starts up later in the evening (around 9 PM, I believe), which helps transition the mood as night falls. We visited fairly early and enjoyed the shift when the music began. However, one interaction notably dampened the experience. A brief, joking conversation with a bouncer took an unexpectedly dark turn. When I lightheartedly asked if anyone had ever tripped on the spiral staircase, he replied, "Only if I throw them off." Joking or not, for someone responsible for patron safety, this felt in poor taste and sounds like he wants to look or sound intimidating. It's a remark that unfortunately sticks with you. And it was of bad taste. Overall, Z Roof Deck has much to offer in terms of views and ambiance, but attention to staff training and customer interaction would elevate it from a good spot to a great one. 2 star from poor choice of words from the security at the roof deck. You want to be funny? Tell a better wholesome joke.

I've just recently been getting back into the party scene and out of all the bars / clubs I've been to, the two of them are definitely up there on the fave list. With Pangaea I love the interior and the quality service. Also that you'll be pretty laid back most of the time and just drinking with friends, you can dance if you feel like it. Since I've tried going to both in one night, I can't imagine doing it any other way. Definitely the best way to do it!

Luckily for me, one of my jobs led me to seeing and experiencing Pangaea on it's first few weeks of operation. It's certainly interesting, with scantily clad ladies behind the bar serving up the drinks with ease and an air of confidence that men wouldn't dare attempt to offend or take advantage. There are several couches, available for a minimum spending guarantee, that comes with standard bottle service, which they upped as those who got tables even have a dedicated V.I.P. service managers to ensure you have the best experience possible. There were also ladies going around, dancing on the open spaces and even on the ledges to hype-up the crown and get the party started. Soon after, they were inviting people to dance, which actually worked. Soon after, the dancefloor was full and even those who were still in their respective couches were on their feet and dancing as well.
