Uhm.... Idk about this one just yet. The doctor was wonderful. The reception staff a little off....the inconsistency of the information kinda threw me for a loop. I had to reschedule my appointment due to that. But, finally seeing the doctor and getting things that i needed done was a good thing. Once i was complete with my exam, and was able to pick out my glasses frame, things became a little smoother they keep everything very clean. They had a cleaning person wiping down surfaces often, so it felt very covid safe. Will review again once i go pick up frames. read more

I made a 10am appointment for today, showed up on time and the guy behind the counter acted like I made it up, even though my info was on record. He told me to wait a half an hour to maybe see if the doctor could squeeze me in, like I have time to waste. Then I call at 10:20am to see if I should come in, the woman who answers the phone says it's not a good idea because the doctor isn't there yet. After she said that she was just silent, didn't offer to reschedule me. This place looks professional but it's far from it. If you value your time I would avoid this place like the plague. read more

The service and front desk staff are HORRIBLE; particularly the short woman with glasses and dredlocks. I went in as a first-time customer on November 16, 2022. After two eye exams (one regular and one for contact lens) I made it clear I wished to proceed with contact lens, and paid a total of $198, plus my VSP benefits. I was given a 30 day trial pair, and told to wear them for 1 week to be sure I liked them. I've been wearing contacts since the age of 16 years old, and I'm 51 now. I said that wouldn't be necessary because I absolutely did not want eyeglasses. I had some difficulty with the right lens, so I returned 1 week later for an adjustment. I also said we were good to place the order. Fast-forward 1 month later - no phone call, no text message, and no contacts. I went back to the store and no one could find my paperwork or lens, although all of my information was in the computer. I spoke to a gentleman named George who informed me my lens had NOT been ordered, but it would take 5-7 days for them to arrive. He offered me another 30-day trial pair to "get me through" while I waited, although they wouldn't be my exact prescription. He said he would check his inventory and give me a call later, which he did. I returned the next day to pick them up, but no one could find them. After searching for nearly 15 minutes, George went into the back and returned with the trial lens. They had somehow been placed in another patient's tray by mistake. I accepted them, and left with the understanding my actual lens were being ordered. I returned on December 27, 2022, and the lens still had not been ordered. I was assured the situation was being resolved, and that my lens would finally arrive in 5-7 days. After receiving no update on my order, I returned to the store again on January 12, 2023 - TWO MONTHS later. Still no contact lens, and once again no one could find my patient tray. The short lady with glasses and reindeer antlers on her head asked for my date of birth. She looked in the computer and found my prescription information, but said the person who helped me, which was Yvette, wasn't in that day. I asked if I needed to come back when she was there, and was told yes. This woman also said she would put my information on Yvette's computer. I returned for a final time on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Yvette was present, and was in the process of helping me. As I began explaining to her how no one seemed to know the status of my order, and that I asked if I should come back, the other lady with glasses, yells from the opposite side of the room, "That's not true!" I repeated our exact conversation from the day before, and asked what part wasn't true. She finally admitted she did tell me to come back when Yvette working, but that I was adding extra bits to the conversation. She was so focused on arguing with me, rather than apologizing for the inconvenience to me a patient and business customer. She continued to make rude comments from across the room, and was very unprofessional. I wasn't willing to argue with a woman, but I firmly called her out on her poor etiquette and non-existent customer service skills. Yvette managed to locate more trial lens which had been mistakenly placed in the back. I became more upset because my actual lens STILL HAD NOT BEEN ORDERED after 2 months. I demanded a full refund, which I received and left the store. I left a poor review on their Google and Instagram pages. Both were deleted immediately, so I'm guessing that woman was responsible. She's clearly trying to cover her behind. I'm taking a screenshot of this one, and I have alerted my VSP provider to the situation as well. I was confused about something and when I asked the doctor she told me to go ask the front desk about payment although my question wasn't about payment. I went to Flatbush Optical to pick up my Mom's glasses and I thought I had walked into "a War Zone". It was very noisy and there were only two customers and with me walking into the establishment made it 3 customers. I felt overwhelmed and when I finally got attendant too the young lady who was preparing my receipt left me to go and attend to another customer who just walked in. I found that very unprofessional of her. She said nothing to me and left me standing for my receipt. Also something I noticed. The unprofessional attire of the employees working there. After receiving a text from Flatbush Optical last night about our new glasses being ready for pick up, which I wasn't expecting for another few days, I had to post this yelp today. I made an appointment by phone last week, and they were able to accommodate me and my son on the same day with back-to-back appointments for this past Friday. Before arriving 20 minutes early on our scheduled day, I received three text messages from Flatbush Optical reminding us of our appointment as well as a phone call the day before we were to go in. For busy young adults, like my son, I felt good knowing that this is a place that makes sure their patients don't flake (which he's never done while while away at college). And as someone who knew deep down inside that they'd need glasses for the first time ever, I appreciated the hand holding; it was the cherry on top of watching, on YouTube, the tv rendition of the book Arthur's Eyes to lift my spirits. After being buzzed into Flatbush Optical, I noticed the space was nearly standing room only and started feeling anxious about the wait time. I reminded myself that not all places are run like clinics when they're not (such as the doctor's office I yelped a couple of days ago) and counted three or four staffers stationed at the front, helping patients like me and my son or like folks who've only come in to pick up their glasses. It wasn't long before we were immediately taken care of by an employee who'd just finished a phone call and some data entry for a future patient. She was welcoming and pleasant like the rest of her front-end cohort - as well back-end staff - whose diligence was evident by the ebb and flow of the patients I saw from the time we walked in up to the time we left. After being checked in, our wait time wasn't long before first round of exams. I loved our tech's positivity, efficiency, and informative communication skills as she worked on us using four different machines and a pc hooked up to several large-screen monitors to check my field of vision, and to scan and take pictures of my eyes (Have you ever seen the back of your own eyeball before? It looks like a planet in outerspace. Don't ask which one though.). If you've never gone down a line of machines like these, you'll appreciate doing so here by a pro like the one we had. She was boss. Up next, the doctor's analysis. This was the part of the exam I've always remembered others going through as I sat back with curiosity, silently boasting perfect vision. But it was super high tech here at Flatbush Optical, as if I were looking through a Mattel View-Master. The doctor was comforting before, during, and after the eye chart portion of my two-part exam, leading me to believe I would indeed be prescribed something well before she eventually said I'd need reading glasses. My son and I saw this doctor separately, but he was in-and-out before I knew it. We had to wait a bit before getting our perscriptions on paper so we could pick our frames, pay, and leave; but not for long. I liked that the doctor prescribed shatter-proof frames for my son. I was left wondering why no other doctor had done that, especially since he's been wearing glasses since he was a child. I also liked my options for frames based on my vision plan. They're just glasses, and I won't need to wear them all the time, but still. There's no need to pour salt on the wound with eyeglass frames that don't fit your face shape or personality. No law-abiding citizen should be limited to eyeglass frame choices as if they were a state prisoner from the 1970s or 80s. Anyway, from start to finish, we were there for about two hours. But, we were early, and there were two of us, and we required two full exams, so no complaints. And while we were waiting, I was able to see one of Flatbush Optical commercials on their overhead tv. Bring your autograph book, everyone. So... I liked about 50% of my visit to Flatbush Optical .... The good: - I had a 3:45 appointment and was called in about 3:50-ish. Not bad. - the woman at the front desk gave me all the info I needed regarding my insurance. - the Doctor at the store was so nice. She put me at ease... told me exactly what she was looking at and for. She explained the difference between different brands of contacts, made a recommendation, etc. The bad: -the waiting chairs are disgusting and really really really need a washing. Don't sit on them. - the technician who met with me first (checked my current prescription, measured my eyes, etc) didn't think it was necessary to speak to me. She asked for my glasses and didn't tell me what she was doing with them. She told me to put my head on the machine and lean forward, but didn't tell me what the machine was for. I literally had to stop her and say "ok, what are you doing over there." This place wasn't terrible ... but then need to work on a couple things. The shop wasn't recommended to me but happened to be close by and covered under my insurance. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this store but if you're local and in need of a eye checkup you could try this place out. read more

I came here for glasses!!! It wasn't too crowded for a Saturday but the technician there told me 1pm -3 pm on Saturdays is usually when it gets busy so remember that!!! I got there at 1130 I was out by a quarter to 1 and I did the whole shebang - I got my eyes checked by the technician, the eye doctor, picked out some frames, and got charged for coating... It's always the coating that gets you... Either way everyone was nice and about business. They call the day before to confirm appointments and most of them are West Indian workers so, they tell it how it is. I've been coming here since 2010 and haven't had any complaints. The visit as a whole isn't that long, only thing is that they just don't have anything to occupy your time while you wait so just make sure you have a full battery. Other than that they provide great service and know the business and based on their interactions with each other they seem to have an entertaining work environment. read more

First of all the place is extremely unprofessional 100%!!! I basically live across the street from this place. I had an appointment at 5:45pm. I called them to tell I forgot my form and I'm running back to get the form. The girl who answered the phone was rude as hell. The doctor refused to see me even though I made it back to the location on time. The lady went and spoke to the lady who was in the computer saying "5:45 cancel" I said no I'm right here and I was told the eye doctor canceled!! This place willNever get my business!! I have never went to this establishment before it was recommended by a friend so i decided to try it. First i ran the bell i had wait about maybe a minute before someone decided to let me it. When i went there was a you g lady sitting and looking at the computer another lady with dreads standing next to the young who was looking at the computer and then there was a blonde lady in the far corner who was dealing with two customers by her station. As i walked in i said good evening everyone answered but acted like I wasn't there which had me a little puzzle because i said evening i stood there for someone to say may i help you but no one did it took the blonde lady mind you who was dealing with others to say may i help you i will be right with you. As i sat down and waited for the lady to help me still no one acknowledged me but the two young ladies started to have a not so good conversation that should not be discussed in front of customers with heavy laughing. I continue to sat there and said nothing. As i was now being service by the blond lady another young lady came out from the back and that was when the laughing got a little louder and extra. As a customer i really don't care where you went to eat or who u went to eat( very unprofessional). And as a first timer to your business it didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. As the blonde kept apologizing i told her that's not tour fault that is the fault of the manager and owner to have this kind of thing going on. I know its none of my business how people dress for work but make sure that the customer doesn't see ur tattoo that is all the way in ur back or the crack of your butt. As i ready to go to the back to get prep before i saw the lady in the back that did the pre check don't she know that she cannot walk back forth and have people sitting they while she converse with the young ladies in the front and forget that you have customers(smh). I decided to read the reviews before posting. I love Flatbush Optical, but I wanted to see everyone's complaints. I must say, I see issues about glasses and prices. I only come for contact lenses and I always get treated well. The only time I came for a eye glass exam, was a few years ago and I took the prescription and went to Warby Parker. I have been coming here for a decade. I really don't have any complaints, but I must say IF YOU COME ON SATURDAYS - The place will be BUSY. So try scheduling during the week. Happened to be having a conversation with my daughter about getting measured for contacts when walking near this place. They were having a promotion day and a man gave us a flyer and asked us to come inside. We made appointments for both of us for about 2 weeks later. After that we were getting emails, texts and calls almost every single day, multiple times a day to confirm our appointments. We arrive 10 minutes early to check in and sign forms. None of that happened at all. The woman who buzzed us in asked if we had made appointments for both of us. She should know, she's the one who made them! She didn't ask us our names or anything just asked us to have a seat and she would be right with us. We waited for 20 minutes before she spoke to us again saying she would be with us soon. Meanwhile, a man who I assumed was the optometrist came from the back and left for lunch. The woman never acknowledged us again. All 4 women in the front helped every single customer except my daughter and I. We started to feel racial bias because we're White. I told my daughter if the woman finishes with the customer and doesn't take us to the back I am walking out. Sure enough, the woman kept on ignoring us and took another customer. I popped up and stated "That's it!" And my daughter and I walked out after being ignored for 45 minutes even though we had appointments for eye exams! These people ONLY care about selling you designer frames. We will have to go to a REAL Optometrist office to get eye exams and glasses/contacts instead. read more

Before scheduling an appointment here, make certain your insurance will cover your "annual exam." Flatbush Optical requires scheduling pupil dilation on a second visit. Some insurances do not cover a second visit as part of an "annual exam." Flatbush Optical does a lot of smoke and mirrors regarding insurance coverage-- I was pitched several versions regarding pupil dilation-- they do it, they don't do it, it is a medical procedure, a specialist needs to be seen, a second appointment is required. These versions might have a major impact on your insurance coverage. Check it out up front before you get screwed, as we did. We would have to pay an additional $90.00 or more for the dilation tests with a specialist which could/should have been done as part of the covered annual exam. Flatbush Optical scheduled this second appointment when our insurance coverage switched from covered to not covered-- namely out of pocket. Also, did not love my eye exam re my lens prescription. Don't get scammed! These people either do not understand insurance or they are con artists. So check it out up front! read more

Do not bother wasting your time there are way better optical locations in new york city. Their customer service is terrible. Their lack of communication is even more disappointing. They scheduled me for a 5:00pm appointment, when I showed up at 450, they said the doctor leaves at 520 everyday, so basically im SOL. Why bother schedule an appointment for 5 then? Three ladies working behind the counter making a number of careless mistakes. Two weeks later I still don't have a pair of glasses or contacts and neither of them seem apologetic. Pretty good customer service and they are always attentive to people browsing or looking to purchase frames. I can't speak for all experiences, but they were very warm and welcoming and acknowledge customers when they come in without being too intrusive. I liked that they were not pushy like other stores. They were okay with me just asking what frames are covered under my insurance plan without pushing a sale. They have late hours on Thursday which is great for people like me always rushing from work. Sales staff was able to work with what options I wanted like using my old frames and having some add-ons (i.e. anti-glare). Other than that, I can't complain. Good service. The worst experience I've encountered in an establishment: This past Sunday I had an appointment at this location that I have gone to several times. I don't have high expectations as my experience before has been at best average. There's always a new doctor and they're typically less than engaging. I arrived 15 minutes late as parking is a nightmare in that area. As I enter the doctor is in a haste to go to the marina but sees me nonetheless which was appreciated. Upon going to check out at the front desk I encounter one of the most disgusting humans (and I use that loosely) I have yet to encounter, SHAREL. SHAREL tells me that the contacts the doctor prescribe for me in not in stock so they have to be ordered and as a "courtesy" she will be giving me a monthly sample vs. a bi-monthly. Confused I asked her why it was courtesy, annoyed she stated because my contacts are supposed to be bi-weekly, as though their lack of stock wasn't the issue. I then ask SHAREL when my contact would be in as I'm am going away for the summer and she stated sometime next week, with that being the case I asked for an additional sample Incase I have any mishaps with the one pair, which Patricia has done for me in the past. She stated no because they barely get samples. I found this a bit off putting as I am a paying customer and it has always been done. I proceeded to ask SHAREL a few questions as she got more irritable she asked a colleague to handle me because " she's not dealing with me". At this point I tell her that her attitude is poor and deplorable as well as unwarranted. she proceeded to tell me that she doesn't give FU*ck and she can't stand black people. She proceeded to make attempts to body shame me stating that I need to go put clothes on my body ( I had on a maxi dress btw) and comb my hair, and make very aggressive threats causing a humiliating scene in the store with other customers in the sight. She threatened me and told me she gets down like that. Her colleague Yvette told her that she was wrong and should stop and she refused. The owners cousin George was on site and said NOTHING to her to try to diffuse and recover the situation nor did the doctor, who happen to both be Caucasian ( SHAREL is black), the both allowed the vile behavior. He sat in the closet while it unfolded. I asked him if he found this type of abusive treatment acceptable and he stated " she's my colleague". I am nothing short of disgusted at the humiliation imposed at the eye doctor all because they choose subpar employees to handle hardworking individuals. I would hope that no one has to ever encounter such an animalistic self loathing individual. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Don't come here if you expect professional treatment. Workers here are rude, and love to talk about customers when they leave the store. Not professional at all. How can you talk badly about a customer in the presence of other customers? I've never witnessed such shoddy customer service, and they charge premium prices for poor service. I have been coming here for years with my family and have always had great service by the ladies in the front and the doctors which is why today was such a horrible surprise for me. I brought my son in for an exam and at first everything went as usual. The regular doctor was not in, I guess he doesn't work on the weekend. I hate to describe someone by there ethnicity but I don't remember the doctors name but she was I believe Russian or Eastern European and had short blond curly hair. She was awful!!! She had no people skills and especially no skills when dealing with a child. From the very beginning she told my son that she wasn't gonna stay here and play with the numbers and that she doesn't care what he looks at just tell her if it's clear or not!! That's not how u do an eye exam!! She then asked him to read the smallest line but when he couldn't she got upset and just switched to the bigger letters and told him read the big letters and that would be ok. How is that gonna help him??? After that horrible experience with the doctors we went to speak with the ladies in the front who by the way seem to be the only ones concerned. Thank God we have been coming here for years and when the ladies saw the doctors report had the good sense to know something was wrong since the report said my sons eyes seems to have gotten aggressively worse in such a short time. I told them about what happened with the doctor and they immediately rescheduled me to see the regular doctor and told me to speak with the manager, I believe his name was James, or George. You would think a manager would want to help his customers but NO!! When he was called he simply yelled back that he's busy and doesn't want to be bothered. Mind you he was in a room right across which has a big open window that you can clearly see him through and he wasn't doing anything and there were no other patients in the office yet. Matter a fact he stepped out of the other room into the front to chat with another person right in front of me!!! I don't know if he heard what happened and didn't wanna help but still what kind of customer service is that? Even the ladies in the front were shocked! Brought a pair of transition bifocals in November. i broke my frame & paid for a new frame. Received a pair of regular glasses. No bifocals & No transitions. They disrespect and mistreat the elderly, I've heard about it online, but my mother recently experienced it first hand.They hire low rent, trash and filth off the street to work at the front desk. Zero stars seems more appropriate. My elderly mother was there with my sister and the eye doctor had left the papers for discharge/prescription on the counter for the women in the front to take. One of the wretched people at the counter had moved and misplaced the paper. After waiting more then 30 minutes just to be discharged my mother had gone to counter to ask, where upon one of the women cut-off my mother mid-sentence and screamed: "Oh this woman is getting on my nerve, she is telling me how to do my job." for everyone in the store to hear. That person had placed the discharge information on the counter at the opposite side of the store (her mistake). My mother and sister had one of the earliest appointments and had finished seeing the doctor, but the staff working there got a good laugh out of making my elderly mother wait all day in their dump of a store just to be discharged. My mother and sister were one of the first there when the store opened and ( because of the uneducated trash working up front ) my mother and sister were made to be one of the last to leave when the store was closing. Note to owner, or employees: Don't feel the need to respond. Do you all sit on your a$$es trolling through reviews? Is that why it took you HOURS to find the slip YOU MISPLACED to discharge my mother? I been here a few times, service was good. That was until I got my last pair of transitional lenses and a new frame. The film on the lenses started coming off after a while, brought it in and was told I would need new ones so they'd order them for me free of charge. A week later brought in my glasses, waited an hour for them to put in the new ones in the frames only to have the lady come back with my frames broken and scratched. She tried to pass off the damage and said I must have broken them and that the scratches were tension lines.....how?!!! My glasses were barely 6 months old!!! Plus I only wore them outside. She gave me some cheap frames and said they'd give me a call in a week to replace my frames. They never did. I had to call back only to have them tell me that they wouldn't do that but they'd give me a discount. It's safe to say that that would be my last time dealing with them. Just picked up the hottest pair of YSL glasses. The service was great. The sales associate (sorry cannot remember her name) was very professional and patient. She was not trying to just close a sale, but actually took her time to get me a pair of glasses that suit my face. I had a great experience. Made my appointment a day or so before. When I arrived, I saw the optician within a few minutes of scheduled time. Sales clerks helped me in finding sale and affordable options. I was not pushed out of my comfort zone with my glasses. Received my glasses within two business days which was great since they had to order my lenses. I will be going back for another affordable pair! read more

I purchased my glasses from Flatbush Optical after changing my eye doctor of 10 years. I was given a complete exam, and I mean complete. The doctor was straight forward and direct which is a plus to me. All the test were administered at the office and I didnt have to go to a ophthalmologist. The staff that helps with the glasses were great! They helped me choose the frame and explained what I was getting in my eyewear. It was a pleasant atmosphere and great experience for a first time visit. Next week I will be taking my kids in for the same great service! read more

I never write reviews, but this place is so great I had to! Everyone is just so friendly and accomodating and competent--it's really a pleasure coming in, especially in a neighborhood where customer service can be a little....absent. I'm not covered for eye-related stuff, and they have been really good about helping me find manufacturer and in-store deals on things. The staff and the doctor are very professional and nice. But, the exam, contact lenses, and glass lenses/frames were all very expensive.

So I walk in and the place is empty with the exception of 3 saleswomen who are each assisting customers. There didn't seem to be a formal waiting option, so I sat down in a row of chairs lined against the wall--which happened to be in front of one of the saleswomen. While I was waiting, a man and his child walked in and stood at the counter. The saleswoman and I made eye contact, so I assumed that she would engage me when she finished assisting the couple she was prior to my arrival. What did she do? When she finished with the couple she was assisting, she turned to the man and began helping him. Seriously? Two more people walked in while she was speaking with the man and also stood at the counter. Ok, so this is what we do--stand around like we are waiting for the butcher to chop the meat. At least they are given numbers and abide by first come first serve. Bad hospitality. Bad service. Wouldn't recommend, and not again. read more

I love going to Flatbush Optical (Junction Flatbush location) because they are very nice and super helpful. They are easy to talk to and you can ask as many questions and they are willing to answer. My visits are always pleasant and that's saying a lot because I hate going to see doctors... But the team at Flatbush Optical are the best! read more
