I have to say I was overwhelmed when I recently had to renew a judgment in another state. With covid, I didn't want to travel to file the paperwork in person. Mailing it seemed risky since I had a deadline and how would I know that it arrived? . It was actually the a clerk from the court who suggested that I file the paperwork electronically. It was great advice!
On the court's website for Torrance, it listed tons of court-approved companies that do e-filings. Prices varied but Flat Rate seemed like one of the better ones. If I'm not mistaken, some only worked with attorneys. I call a lot of them. There were a couple of nice people but, overall, most seemed almost annoyed that I even had questions.
I was about to give up and take my chances with filing by mail. Then I called Flat Rate Process Service. I usually only write reviews about restaurants, but my experience with this company was so positive, I just had to give them a 5-star rating plus share my find with other Yelpers.
I'm thinking that unless you work in the legal field, doing anything with the courts can be confusing and intimidating. A really helpful employee, Josh, was kind and patient about explaining how the e-filing process worked and he even pointed me in the right direction when I wasn't sure where to find a certain form.
The company offers a concierge option where they will do the filling for you, but I ended up feeling confident enough to file through their website on my own. And it went without a hitch.
I also loved that I got confirmations of the status by email all along the way.
The whole judgment renewal ended up being a 3-step process. I'm really happy with my experience at Flat Rate and I highly recommend it to others. read more
