Jonathon was awesome from day one. A very laid-back and chill energy made planning with him feel…read morenon-anxious. He made us feel like he had everything under control and that he knew when to accommodate us and when he could use his knowledge to make sure everyone had a great time. In the pre-ceremony, he mixed it up between some pre-selected songs I chose and played some live. I am a musician, so many of our family and friends that were in attendance are all musicians and singers. They all immediately were drawn to his smooth voice and incredible playing. The ceremony went great and had minimal to no tech issues, the sound was clear, he helped us incorporate our musician friends to play a song during the ceremony. He played our First Dance song live, and absolutely knocked it out of the park! We did a small choreographed dance to Love Like This by Ben Rector. His voice was perfect, and I was able to send him an edited version of the song that matched with our dance. He played it flawlessly and the moment was special for my wife and I, and for our guests. During the dinner, he played an acoustic set consisting of covers of 90s-2000s R&B songs, which were a huge hit with us and our guests. He played with a loop pedal and was able to simulate a full band with just his guitar and voice! He had some moving and grooving, singing along during dinner, while others were still able to hold a conversation without distraction. I gave him many songs to include in the dance portion of the night. And while he included MANY of my suggestions, he also knew when to throw in some crowd favorites to keep the party going. The dance floor was PACKED all night, the transitions between each song where seamless, and it became a fun game for my and my friends to try and guess what song he was cueing up next! My wife and I loved every musical moment of the evening, and it was exactly what we dreamed of for that day. All of our guests loved the music, and were so impressed not just with his professionalism and on stage banter with the crowd, but his musicality and rich voice. I have worked as a wedding musician for a few years, and as a gigging musician and singer for much longer. I have always feared that I would spend my wedding day judging the Wedding Band/DJ because of my high standards for live music. Jonathan blew every single one of those expectations out of the water, and he was such a breath of fresh air during a stressful period of wedding planning. We had so many guests come up to us the night of the wedding and in the days after complimenting her playlist and skills on the turntables. We wanted a diverse set of music--from 70s disco to modern dance--and as a result there was always a song playing that someone on the dance floor loved. It was a broad request for a DJ to deliver on, but Doralee nailed it. I might be biased, but I've never seen a dance floor stay as active and lively as ours did, and she played a massive role in making that happen. Doralee was also in charge of handling all of the cues and background music for the ceremony, which was spectacular in its own right. Even though she hadn't worked at our chosen venue before, she handled the setup and logistics with class and ensured the little details were taken care of. It was later explained that it was all a misunderstanding. However, the way this misunderstanding was explained was not clear or backed up by a contract. It was all very confusing, fishy, and extremely unprofessional. We feel we were mislead. As for musical ability, the musician has musical talent. Hence, the one star rating. It's really unfortunate that we had a terrible experience and musical talent is not enough to trump that. Weddings are a big deal, if we could go back we would hire a different musician.
