Wow! The flavors at Flare blew us away. My hubby and I were looking for a new place to try for our date night. I remembered the opening soon signs for Flare when we used to live by Ryon Park. Since we moved, I'd almost forgotten so I was excited to finally try their food. The staff that greeted and tended to us were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere has a hole-in-the-wall vibe with its intimate seating. The back tables have glowing lights like stars which was a nice touch. That being said, I feel like the interior could use some more color. Maybe some Japanese or Korean art would be cool. We started out with some milk tea. I ordered the tiger milk tea which was sweet with caramel and I added honey Boba. For the food, they have hot pots! A unique offering for the Lompoc area. The food at Flare is mostly Korean and Japanese inspired food with some California influences. Like the beef Bulgogi fries my husband ordered-- were bomb. They came with a spicy mayo like sauce that was a savory and sweet suprise. The saltiness of the beef and melted cheese-- ultimate comfort food. It would've been even better with avocado. I ordered a fusion rice bowl. At first I was skeptical about the sauce the shrimp came with. But after the first bite my mouth was bursting with flavor. Freshness from the sour cream mixed perfectly with the mildly spicy red sauce dressing the shrimp (no tails which I appreciated). Little bits of cilantro mixed into the warm jasmine rice balanced out the salty and savory shrimp. Add in the freshness of the crisp lettuce, pico de gallo and corn. Overall, it created a beautiful balanced dish I didn't know I needed; a meal that satisfied my soul. Next time we come I can't wait to try their hot pots! To be honest, I think this is probably one of the worst places in Lompoc. Not just commenting on the food, being bland or taking forever to come out, but I'm mainly referring to the fact that there was pieces of metal foil in my food. I waited forever just to get some type of bowl that tasted very bland. Didn't have any real spice or flavor to it. The young lady did ask if I wanted to return the plate, but by that point I was too upset and just paid the tab and walked out. First time trying the place - was hesitant ordering soup (pho) via DoorDash but I was hungry and there was an option to place extra instructions ( I asked for more hoisin and siracha for the multiple pho orders placed). No sauces were provided for any of the PHO and part of our order was missing - it was charged on DoorDash but wasn't even on the receipt that was delivered to us. Called the place and they said their cooks left for the night, and they couldn't help. Pho broth was extremely salty - and lacked the flavors of actual pho (star anise, cinnamon, and cardamom) I will not be ordering this again. The amount of veggies they gave minimal. I love pho and this was a complete disappointment. But I'll give this place the benefit of the doubt and try it sometime via dine in. read more

My friends and I stopped by this little spot since we were craving some asian food! The shop is homely and the workers were very friendly. We are originally from LA and we were surprised to see a hotpot restaurant in Lompoc. We were not disappointed by the food at all! The portions were generous for the price of each dish and we shared the Buldak Fries (i would highly recommend). The hotpot flavors were great and satisfied our craving! Honestly, a little disappointed with the last time we ate here. Probably ate here 5 times before and it was pretty good. We were excited to see that the menu had been expanded on our most recent visit but I learned that it was not for the better. The chicken curry katsu that I normally get was chewier and blander than ever. We tried the salmon bake but it was caked on with so much sauce that didn't quite taste right and also tried Korean fries chicken that was like chewing on rubber. I hate to say that the quality has gone down since our last dine in but I can confidently say that a bigger menu does not mean better food. I've been to this restaurant 3 times and have had the same ramen dish every time with the exception of the second time instead of the veggie style, I had shrimp. I will stick with the veggie style. It's just so good & the portions are huge! The reason I wouldn't get the shrimp again is because 1) it was still in the shell & pulling it out of the soup to peel the shell off was just inconvenient. 2) the shrimp had not been cleaned so there was poop in them which I also had to take out. But the veggie version is amazing & I will gladly have it over & over again! I do, however, wish that their chairs were more comfortable. Hard metal that cuts off the circulation under my knees makes sitting very uncomfortable. But that's easily fixed by getting the food to go. What an awesome find in Lompoc! An honest to goodness Korean spot! We stopped here after the Lompoc Flower Festival Queen Premiere. Definitely good that they are open late! We originally stopped for boba and were enticed by the menu items. Since we had already had an early dinner, we weren't too hungry but just could not resist the crispy chicken small plate and the cheese katsu. The food was excellent! The chicken had a light batter that allowed the chicken flavor to come through. If was crisp and not oily. It was served with a really great lemon mayo sauce. It was creamy but had a really good lemon flavor; a great balance. The cheese katsu was served with rice, mushrooms, corn and onions. The katsu was well-seasoned and had a nice sauce on top. I liked that the katsu was not drenched in sauce like many places. The cheese on top added a good flavor as well. The best part was that because it was served in a cast iron pan, it allowed the rice to crisp up on the bottom. It was a nice surprise! The tiger milk tea was really good. Despite other people's overly critical reviews, this restaurant is an incredible addition to the town. Yes, the parking lot is small but so is la botte's. Yes, it might take 5-10 minutes for a server to get to you but golly gee, maybe strike up a conversation with those in your party to pass the time. Now, the stuff that matters... The food was superb and much more authentic then anything you'd get from Panda Express. I got the seafood boiling pot and I was on cloud 9 for the hour and a half we ate there. The small boxes they bring to your table with the hot pots is so creative, and I've been to quite a few Japanese, Korean Fusion, Dim-Sum and Cantonese eateries. For $20 bucks, I couldn't have been more satisfied with the amount of food or price. My wife got the pork Ramen bowl and she too was very impressed. No, the pork wasn't overcooked but it is pre-cooked, my guess is boiled or steamed. Regardless, it tasted great with the garlic sauce and the soup broth. The restaurant is clean, the ambience was great, the lighting was moody, the music wasn't too loud, and the service was efficient and quick (we wanted another bowl of rice, and brought it out within seconds). The sauces on the table were perfect. The teriyaki wasn't overly sweet and the garlic sauce was to die for. I added both to my broth and wow! Overall, I have a feeling a lot of people might not be used to these flavors since their taste buds are tuned to the overly sugary flavors of mainstream Chinese restaurants or teriyaki sauces they can get from Albertsons. We finally tried Flare after hearing about it through an IG post. It is refreshing to find that there is now a local Korean restaurant in our area. When we arrived we were greeted promptly and seated. Our order was taken as soon as we were ready and the wait time for our food was quite short given the number of customers that were already there. We tried the chicken and beef hot pots and being that it was our first time there, we all went with the original flavor. The soup was served with a fire pot underneath and only gets hotter as the flame burns down. Granted you can have the flame put out at your request or give it 15-20 minutes to burn itself out. I did add an order of kim chee and when I added some to my soup, it took my hot pot to another level. So the next time we go, I may just try the spicy flavor hot pot. If not, I can at least build up the spice level with kim chee and other condiments at the table. The restaurant itself is pretty spacious and has good natural lighting. My kids finally talked me into going back to Flare, and I wanted to make an update because this was the experience we were hoping for. The service was attentive and pleasant, the food was correct, plentiful and delicious. This is the Flare we fell in love with. I understand off days and that's why I wanted to give Flare another chance, and I'm so glad I did. My wife's Pork Belly Chili Paste Udon had a mountain of meat and my Korean Military Stew was fantastic(who knew American cheese could be so good in a soup), such a treat. Adding an extra star for encouragement because it is so nice to have Korean food and boba in Lompoc. I had the beef skillet -- I added fried garlic & chiles, which I recommend doing! -- and a honeydew boba milk tea. Compared to places like Sizzling Lunch, where the meat is tender, moist, & still cooking when it's delivered, the skillet wasn't the best. It was dry, to be honest. But the flavor was OK, the sauces helped, and the portion size was ample; you'll have leftovers to enjoy. It would be nice to have more boba tea options -- e.g. some might prefer their tea without milk, or might prefer their milk tea as a slush -- but if you like milk tea you'll be satisfied. Ordering was a bit of a mystery at first -- they sat me with a placemat-like tea menu and walked away. I went up ask for a food menu, and they told me the food was on the other side -- I felt like a dumb-dumb, lol. All in all it's a promising start. Authentice Korean food, but you would not guess that on physical building appearance. I'm Korean on a golf trip Memorial Holiday weekend (from SF Bay Area), and the dishes were SURPRISINGLY very good: specifically the Korean Miltary Stew and Seafood Soup.
