Three flights
Jorge P.

Local Berwyn spot that I've been wanting to try! First time here and it wasn't too shabby. We ordered the Pepperoni & Margherita Pizza, both solid pizza's and not filly/doughy at all. For about 6 of us, we ordered 2 pizzas and three flights for about $70. Satisfied our hunger but definitely did not fill us. It's also not the biggest place, so don't expect lots of space. Also we tried their homemade Seltzer and I actually liked it! On top of that, it was $2 so it made me want to come back just for that. If you haven't been here, I would say test it out and make an opinion. Nice vibe overall and the service had some nice people, that always adds to the experience. Overall for me, I'll be back Flapjack! Personal Review: 6.9/10

Berwyn Common And Marinara Pizza
Steve A.

Berwyn has a lot of great local businesses and among these is a brewery. Flapjack has been around awhile now, and still the employees have a clear love of the job. It's not just a brewery but also a pizza restaurant. Each of these are great on their own, but together makes one of the ultimate combinations. The prices are pretty good, and you get full pours and portions. Good reasons for getting off Metra in Berwyn are one: getting beer here, and two: getting pizza here. If you like beer and pizza, you need to get off. They don't serve some frozen shit. It's motherfucking real. Pizza is good but beer is still the main thing. It's a brewery after all. The draft list isn't huge. Even though it's been open quite a few years, this is a pretty small building. Last time I had a few pints. Best of all these was the Berwyn Common. It's about $6.50 for most pints. This one has a medium alcohol content with a little citrus sweetness. As for the pizza, I have only tried the one with no cheese, the Marinara. It's $10 for all pizzas. This one has garlic, olive oil, oregano, San Marzano tomato sauce, and sea salt. It's bigger than it looks. This is plenty for one person. It's full of flavor. They can put a lot of pizza into the wood fired oven, and it comes out quick. Concluding, it's hard to say if the beer or pizza is better. It's easy saying both are good. Then just get some of both, and get some cool merchandise like hats and shirts.

Pepperoni supreme

Great spot for homemade wood fired pizza! Came on a Thursday evening and grabbed an open table. We ordered the arugula salad which was huge and very tasty. It had thick slices of parm, pistachio, tomatoes, and a slightly sweet and tangy balsamic drizzle. I tried the margarita pizza and my friend tried the pepperoni supreme. Both were great! The margarita crust was very airy and light. I do wish the bottom of the pizza was a little less soggy but it was still good. The atmosphere is causal and relaxed and right across from the train stop. I will definitely be back to try more!

Small but full of character the food coming out of the all kitchen looked amazing and the smell was enough to make your mouth water it's definitely worth a return trip just to try the food

This place is located alongside the railroad tracks in Berwyn. The main draw is that they are a microbrewery with an average of 7 unique rotating selections (It's almost like going to a Baskin-Robbins 31 flavors ice cream shop, because each month they will offer something different). And every beer has a lot of thought, love and care put into it. I personally love black beers! The darker the better. (Ironically, the one black beer I cannot stand is Guinness because of its very bitter aftertaste!) And the black beer they offered two months ago was far better on tap than any Guinness drought I have ever had! Plus, it had a sweet aftertaste! Better all around than any Guinness! And, a local secret, you can get it to go! Yes after having a pint or two at the bar, simply request that you want some to go. The bartender will fill and seal one of two sizes of aluminum can for you to go! Heaven in a can! Perfect for that midnight movie or binge watch your planning that evening! Enjoy! The food is also handcrafted! They specialize in unique pizzas! And their flavor complex is too die for! What makes the pizza so good you ask? Why it's the Mozzarella cheese! Which they hand make in the restaurant! Usually they don't offer pizza on Sunday's. But, their go-to-wizard-hot-shot millennial chef, David, always crafts something special for the Sunday offering! Examples including: 1) Foot-long Italian Sausage, that has been soaked in their homemade beer overnight! Hands down the best Italian sausage I have ever had! 2) Homemade Chili with all the fixings! Simply wonderful! The Ambiance is wonderful. There is always plenty of room along the bar! And there are several tables! Get there early, because it always fills up early. Enjoy! P.S.: Flapjack Brewery is open Wednesday through Sunday!

The original bartender disappeared without taking my food order . I had to get the attention of the following bartender to order a goddess salad w no onion. The salad came with onions, (no big deal I'll pick them off). Finished said salad and beer (not once was i acknowledged during that time). I sat there with an empty beer glass & a plate with onions for about 10-15 mins. At this point no one else is at the bar.. (early eve 730).. the bartender scraped off plates into the garbage directly in front of me several times yet failed to look up every single time . She finally returns , grabs the plate , scrapes off the onions and asked if i'd like anything else . (she took the order, she should have noticed and acknowledges the onion error ). I opted for a short pour but i would have ordered a burger and at least two more beers had there been any presence of customer service. (This doesn't fall just on the bartender, there were several opportunities for others to notice a patron at the bar with an empty beer glass and empty plate for too long a time). Management and Staff need training. Pros: Salad was great but small. Beer was great, nice selection.

It's about $8 a pint. Kind of a lot but they make smaller batches of these. Best one we had of these was the Hazy In The Name Of. This is a New England Hazy IPA, a classic style. Made with citrone and nectaron hops. There's notes of citrus, lime, passionfruit, and peach. Has a few things to munch on. It's about $7 for the Knotty Pretzels. Comes in a big bag. I've never been to a place that offers 5 oz pours, and as someone who rarely finishes an entire 12 oz beer, I've always said I needed a place that has "kid size." Hop District is that place. Burger was good! Plus there are a bunch of activities like book clubs and trivia nights I want to try, so I guess this is my regular spot now. Depending on the night, maybe I'll get TWO 5 oz beers!

I can't recall exactly how many times I'd given the previous tenant my business over the years, though it has to have been in the dozens. I loved their vibe which could be described as relaxed at best (and dingy at worst), and though the kitchen was no great shakes I appreciated specials on their burgers and pints. Fast forward to 2022, and this place is now exclusively a brewery under the name Imperial Oak. They've also got a location on Archer Ave that I've been to several times. Funny enough, both have 2+ pinball tables and tiny parking lots, however this location on Ogden Ave is much more accessible than the Imperial Oak in Willow Springs. Speaking of pins, their two machines (Simpsons Pinball Party & a retooled Medieval Madness) are $1/game and play beautifully. They've got shuffleboard and some events throughout the month like weekly bingo & trivia. They don't have a kitchen, but sometimes a foodtruck comes in and you can always B.Y.O.F. Bartenders are easygoing; if you aren't feeling an IPA or barrel stout they also have hard seltzers as well as a full bar. The crowd is predominantly locals and after-work peeps. If you can't find a space in their lot, try the angled spots at the Sherwin-Williams next door (just be discreet). * TL;DR * A couple brews, a couple score-based replays on pinball, life is A-OK. Back when this place was Brixie's, it was much quieter and business seemed slow, but I liked it. These days, it's usually bustling with activity whenever I stop by, and that's great news for Imperial Oak. Beer is reasonably priced (Buzz Lite is a delightful honeyweiss for $6/pint) and the taps are varied. I'm switching jobs in the next few weeks, so the odds of me coming through here again are slim but I'll always keep them in mind should I find myself in the Brookfield area. I'd recommend Imperial Oak, for sure.

It is really excellent to literally live one block away from an awesome brewery doing some unique things and spreading some of that love to the neighborhood. I was first introduced to Off Color at the Hermosa Neighborhood Association Holiday Party back in December 2015. They (and Pipeworks, also a Hermosa brewery) provided free beer to the party, which was amazing! The beer was delicious and a bit unique. Their operation isn't too huge which I enjoy. They are creating small-ish batches of really good beer that they distribute all over the country. You can buy kegs and bottles in their new Bottle Shop, which is open Wednesday-Saturday each week. Off Color is interested in doing beers that others are not creating (according to the tour we went on) and they are very much accomplishing that goal. They are doing things that are not the typical IPA, Belgian Saison, etc. and I like that in a brewery. They're using ingredients to make beers sour, less carbonated, more stout-y, and using different floral flavors like juniper berries. They have tours on Saturdays but be sure to get your tickets early. The tours are $10 and fairly short, but you get a few samples of their beer and a lot of stories about the owners and other employees (including why all of their bottle artwork looks the way it does).
