Jivan's is the bomb…read more I spent much of my college years partying in this horrible town and I never once thought to visit this place. Then one of my good friends in my later years promised me this would be a great place for a curry. So initial thoughts is it definitely looks outdated outside and in but surprisingly it is not all that uncomfortable with the old wooden decor. I will admit in around 20 visits here I have only ever order the one dish and that is the minced lamb curry with naan, it is that good! It is a family run restaurant and they are very awesome folk who work here. I have only ever been during the week so not sure what the weekend rush is like.

This is my favourite place for curry in Wolverhampton for a few reasons;…read more Very reasonable prices - I recently went with a pal, we had rice and curry each, a nan between us and a pint of indian lager each - it was under a tenner each! Great tasting curry and a good portion served in a balti dish. Their chicken tikka sizzler starter dish is great too (£8.00 but can serve 3/4). Take-away also available. Look on the W/ton council website for the environmental health scores on the doors and Jivans scores one of the highest (4 stars) in the town for excellent food standards and kitchen hygiene. Better score than places that charge twice as much! Its only a small place with formica tables, so its not the sort of place for a special meal, there are far more swankier places to visit - but for a quick curry in a hurry after a real ale session, or a curry before the theatre this place can't be beaten. Great food, good portions, great prices - my favourite place.

Edit- update 2013 new owners food not as good as it used to be!…read more Hi spice lovers! I have been going to the Midnight Balti for a couple of years now. First ever impression wasn't good as the place looks a bit rough from the outside haha. But when you go inside it is nice and clean, albiet small. The quality of the food is terrific especially for the price. I would say its the cheapest Indian Restaurant in the west midlands, or at least one of the cheapest. I doubt any could beat the prices they charge there. And for the quality of the food its a must visit place for sure. Its not the type of place to go for a romantic meal. Rather a casual curry, like grab some beers from the shop next door, take em in and just relax. Never had a bad meal there and i have sampled probably 70% of the menu! Staff are friendly also, no problems there So really if its just a really cheap but quality curry you are after, then this place is a must visit. Plus its important to say that i have been to most Indian restaurants in the west midlands area, such as ' The red fort cafe champagne spice time jivans cafe rickshaw the rickshaw dilshad mother india spice avenue bilash Plus many more i haven't listed, so i like to think i know what im talking about I hope this helps your decision to try this place out. I doubt you will be disappointed Enjoy

We had actually planned to go somewhere else but on ariving there realised we'd been before but…read moreunfortunately for them I was in the mood for somewhere new. So after a little drive round Willenhall etc we stumbled on the unassuming Midnight around 8ish last Sat night. It was about three quarters full and we were seated straight away. There was a mix of customers on the night. The tables are very close so there are no private conversations and we did over hear a few expletives. There is nothing fancy in the decor but it is reassuringly clean and tidy. There is a decent choice on the menu with a few special dishes. There was a bit of a delay in taking our order and also in the arrival of our meals but it wasn't too bad. The poppadoms were nicely done and came with ample onion salad and dips. Just the one starter, a safe onion bhaji, a fraction dry but I may be being a bit picky. The sauce in both of our the main courses was different, it was good but slightly unusual and hard to describe; tasty, quite thick (almost gluey) sweetish sauce. The chicken tikka in both was very good and my Madras was certainly hot enough. Unfortunatley there wasn't much spinach in my wife's sag. No complaints with the fried rice, garlic & coriander nan or frozen chips. We hadn't room for a deserts so can't comment on them. Our young waiter didn't really know the menu but he and the staff were pleasant enough, perhaps could have been a little more engaging considering we were obviously first timers. So overall not bad at all and the bill was very reasonable, being helped by the Midnight not being licensed. Not quite Four Stars.
