Being from Asheville, we're no stranger to food trucks, but Thoroguhfare's truck is beautiful. The color pallette they utilize is a classical black and white, but the accents run throughout the truck, including the covered awning! An awning on a food truck, to shield customers from the sun and rain, what a touch of class. Also, everything was immaculately clean. I couldn't tell if this truck was brand new, or if they give the thing a french restaurant style scrub down at the end of every service. The menu was simple yet well prepared, there were the aforementioned items, as well as Fish Tacos (my favorite) and Shrimp and Grits with a nice large hunk of tilapia. We selected the Fish Tacos. $9 for two tacos is a bit expensive, but I feel like we were paying for the quality of ingredients and the convenience of location. Ordering was quick, payed with a card via Square, and the person operating the window took down our phone number to text us when our order was ready. This is another really pleasant courtesy. Our tacos were prepared quickly and we dove in. The kale was a very interesting choice. It provided a nice green flavor to the tacos, but I missed the crunch of the standard cabbage. It's cool, kale is in, I get it. Kale is probably much healthier than cabbage as well, I know. It's just... I want that bite curve! Aside from me being a real dork about the need for cabbage in fish tacos, they were excellent. The fish was prepared extremely well, and the white sauce was totally on point. While eating my wife mentioned how everything tasted so fresh and healthy, that although we were eating fried fish she didn't feel guilty or bad. Lovely! They'd take about three orders (one person working full time on filling them) and then they'd close the window and the second person would don fresh gloves and work on filling orders to get people served in a timely manner. . We ordered the falafel gyro, fries with feta and an order of loukoumades (Greek mini donuts). The fries were great. The falafel was similar to what I've had on the streets of Athens- delicate and nicely crunchy. The loukoumades were amazing- delicately spiced with cinnamon and a light honey while being crispy on the outside and soft inside. Highly recommend! Think Greek donut holes.
