We had a good experience with Flame ordering the Santorini package for 20. The chicken and rice were delicious, the salad was fresh, and the packaging was thoughtful, particularly the squeeze bottles for the dressing and garlic sauce. The hummus was okay and the tzatziki was good, as was the pita. The main complaint I have is that there was nowhere near enough falafel for 20 people. There were about 20 pieces in total, the aluminum container was nowhere near full, and many people didn't get to try it because a single piece of falafel isn't a serving for one person. The package definitely skewed heavily toward the cheaper things on the menu, like salad and rice. There were a lot of leftovers for both. That being said, would work with these guys again. read more

I ordered lunch today from Flame and it was quite tasty. Delivered just about on time, I was starving and actually ate a couple of the excellent stuffed grape leaves in the elevator before getting back into my apartment! The chicken meze platter was very good. There is a lot of food here including chicken shawarma, falafel (they were a little dry), grape leaves, rice, salad and tzatziki. Quite tasty. Packed nicely and delivered on time, I would order from Flame again. [Review 10004 overall, 1584 of 2018.] read more

Stopped in here for the first time today after working in the area for years. It's easy to miss this place because it is truly a little hole-in-the-wall and the name doesn't really do it justice. I never stopped to wonder what kind of food does "Flame Cafe" make, or perhaps I assumed it was one of those dime-a-dozen sandwich places which are scattered throughout the financial district. Boy, was I wrong! Flame surprised me with a delicious smell walking in and a useful photo menu on the window right next to the door. The place was empty except for me (and this was about noon on a weekday), so I didn't have to wait at all. The service was fast and professional, but not overly friendly. I tried the chicken gyro plate, and it was quite good. The chicken came with rice, some salad including pickle, tzatziki sauce, and a warm pita on the side (optional). I got mine without jalopenos, but they put one slice on the salad as if to say to me, "C'mon, give it a try." I was very happy with the food overall. The greens were fresh and crispy, the chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the portions were generous. A few negatives included that chicken over rice was a little greasy and left a fair amount of oil on the bottom of the to-go container. Also, the to-go container was divided which made mixing in the greens and tzatziki sauce a little tricky. I would have preferred it be served in an aluminum tin with no dividers (like many street vendors in NYC do) so that you can mix it all up easily. Despite these minor drawbacks, this place is well worth a visit again. read more

Flame Cafe is located right behind my office building and it did not take me long to want to explore it and man am I glad I did. They serve large portions for ~$10. I've had the lamb promo plate and an eggplant & lamb plate. I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between Schwarma and promo plates other than price? My friend also claims the Schwarma is delicious which I don't doubt because my plates come with fresh hot pita in a foil to make sure it stays warm. Also, in the couple times I've been there, I have NEVER seen that sign promising punch holes in exchange for Yelp ratings and the first time I went there and looked this place up on Yelp, that "evidence" picture was not there. So...I'd be interested in knowing there that came from. Solid spot to grab a quick lunch but not great for eating in because the space is too small. Don't forget to check the side counter where the napkins and utensils are! Oftentimes they have sauces (& pickled veggies) already prepped in containers ready for you to grab and go read more

It is always strange to be recognized. But oddly freeing too, since that meant I no longer had to be circumspect, so I whipped out my camera and shot away as I pleased. They have two new to me items on their menu - the American Gyro Sub (their month's special?) for $5.65 (with any of their 3 meats: lamb, chicken, pork), and a Seafood Rice Pilaf $6.59 (fresh cooked rice with shrimp, calamari, scallops, mussels and clams, sprinkled with fresh cilantro) - so I opted for both, and tossed in a maxi baklava (the only thing that they don't make here) for $2.99. The sample American Sub looked a little outsized by its neighbor the pita on the counter, but it looked rather good portioned once I got mine back to work and undressed it from its foil wrapper for eating purposes. The pork was well seasoned and tender. The sub toasted on the cut surface, but still rather soft. It was a good sandwich, but I very much prefer the texture and the contrast of the pita's griddled surface against its tender center. I found the Seafood Rice Pilaf a bit on the bland side. They did include a sauce on the side to go with it, but when I sniffed it and tasted it, it resembled soy sauce, which I felt didn't quite go with the dish. The baklava was pretty good, and seemed to be filled with chopped almonds. I'd pass on the rice pilaf next time, and would consider the American Sub again, but prefer the pita in either the chicken or the pork variations. Note - if you order the baklava, take a baklava; they are used to customers proactively taking them from the stack, so you might end up leaving without it otherwise. *** June visit II *** Since I've already tried all their gyro pitas, as well as a selection of other things, the owner suggested I give their Greek salad with chicken a try and tossed in a warmed pita since I love them so much. The salad ($4.99) was sweet crisp romaine leaves chopped, with sliced cucumber, a couple of larger pieces of tomato, red peppers, a slice of red onion, some pickled peppers in the corner, and a trio of olives to anoint it, with the crumbled feta and salad dressing on the side. And it was topped with quite a mound of flavorful tender chicken for $1.99. The gratis pita ($1 otherwise) was nice and toasted warm and yet still soft and poofy, but it was sadly quartered. Sure, that makes sense with it beside the salad, but still I was a bit disappointed since I was wanting to make it into a pita sandwich for myself. Oh, well, it was still tasty. And next time I'd know to say something. The chip basket had more of a selection this time around. I bypassed the Cheetos I spotted for a Lay's Sour Cream & Onion... but gee, was it tempting... You can pay with Level Up or you can use their Guest Loyalty Card if you want to pay by other means - it earns you $5 credit towards breakfast after 4 visits and a free lunch up to $10 in value after your 9th visit. Let's summarize on the things I would re-order here: Chicken or Pork Gyros Pita $7.99 - I like their pitas (also available for $1 a la carte) Baklava $2.99 And their salad was pretty big and fresh; I wonder if they'd allow a double portion of the meat - that and some pita could make for a good two lunches in a row for a lighter eater like me, if I were to plan ahead. *** 8/2014 *** I just needed a pita to make a sandwich of some leftovers I had. Unfortunately the lady who grilled it up for me nice and warm automatically quartered the soft round pita despite my conversationally having mentioned what I was getting it for. Oops. I called, and David A. answered my call and said he'd give me another. I ran on over (literally; I was in a rush) and David A. handed me a foil wrapped bundle over the lunchtime crowd which had appeared since my earlier visit. David, for your responsiveness and service, you've earned the coveted 4 stars from me. read more

What a gem for lunch! It's a small place, but their service is super quick even for lunch. I didn't even find my credit card yet, and my order was ready. The chicken could be hotter, but the yogurt sauce is delicious once you mix everything around! And it only cost 4.99! Best part is having a few jalapeño to bring up the kick. The guy was super nice, he even offered a $1 chicken kabob as an add-on. Was tempted, but it's a lot of food already. I want to try their breakfast next! read more

Attention Boston Urbanites, I, Dwight K. Schrute, hereby declare that Flame Cafe serves the best value lunch in the Downtown Boston area. Those who disagree suffer from less-than-capable taste buds. Veggie dolma for $5.19 through the Food For All app is not worth it because you can just walk in 30 minutes earlier and get any dish 50% off an hour before closing versus a limited selection 30 minutes before closing through the app. The ladies were nice but the food was incredibly underwhelming. The hummus was the best thing unfortunately. The pickles didn't complement the plate in my opinion. The rice was rice. The eggplant and grape leaves were solid. The falafel were so dry, bland, difficult to choke down, even with the hummus. The sauces available were terrible. Sweet thai chili, some weird white sauce, bbq sauce, and buffalo sauce? If I paid full price I'd be upset at the flavors. They were not flame at all. read more

Found this spot on Ritual and I'm extremely satisfied with this meal. I ordered the Chicken Platter with Jalapeño, Rice, Salad, and Tzatziki Sauce and it was ready for pickup when I arrived. First time here, and a bit confused by the stellar reviews. I tried the mixed plate w/ lamb, and the meat was very well seasoned, but it was way too tough and gristly. Borderline inedible. I may consider trying the chicken or meze plate, but the lamb was some of the worst gyro/shawarma I've had. read more

First of all, the food here is fantastic. They offer all sorts of Mediterranean cuisine (Middle Eastern, Greek and Armenian), including breakfast and lunch options. The food is naturally reduced fat, gluten free and pretty darn healthy. All their proteins, like chicken, lamb and pork, are made in a traditional way with lots of seasoning and on a spit. Second, the owners are amazing. We had a last minute catering request. Literally called and said please cook now asap. I felt awful and told them I could undrestand if they couldn't accomodate. They were able to help and, within about 30 minutes, they called with our food order completed. I offered to pay extra, for the inconvenience. The owner refused and said he was happy to help. If you're looking for catering that isn't boring old sandwiches or a quick healthy yummy and inexpensive lunch option, I'd recommend this place all day. It's small, but looks can be deceiving. read more

Great mediterranean food and a solid lunch choice. I've been here many, many times and each time has been a positive experience. Gyro plate is very tasty, reasonably priced, and has plenty of food. Gyro meat, lettuce, tomato, jalapeño, rice, tzaziki... It's that classic pop of flavors you look for in a gyro... nothing is bland, everything plays a huge part. The rice adds a nice extra body, soaking up the sauce and making it more filling without acting like a filler. Be sure to grab a cup of the orange-colored garlic sauce on the left sidebar. Even if your plate comes with tzatziki, it's great when mixed with this garlic sauce. The staff is always extremely nice and quick with your food. I've never had to wait longer than a few minutes, I usually go around 11:30-11:45. I'm guessing it gets a little more crowded during the more common 12:00-1:00PM lunch rush, but they crank food out fast. It's a smaller place, no tables inside. So it's great for takeout, but definitely not for eating in. They are just a short walk away from Post Office Square, where you can eat your newly acquired Mediterranean fare in the park (if the weather allows it). read more

This is my new favorite place to eat in Boston!Couldn't find pork shawarma for a long time, but flame has the best. Picked up 2 pork shawarmas today with lavash bread and with tzatziki. I found this place through the Yelp24 app on my phone and was pleasantly surprised. The lunch specials are really delicious and pretty decently priced. Most meals cost under 10 dollars and are closer to $6. I would even venture to say I think that the chicken/lamb/pork plates are better than the Chicken N Rice guys?! The sauces here are really great! One thing I found out is that it is better to order in store. They are really nice, and they have free chips and a loyalty card that they punch holes in. The chips are on top of their soda cooler, so if you are short, then you may not be able to get them. Apparently they don't count online orders toward the card. i would probably go later in the day or very early to beat the lunch hour lines. read more

This place opened recently and I was planning to go and visit it so when I saw it on groupon I didn't think twice for buying it. My voucher was for $10 worth of food. I ordered the chicken gyro and since I had a few more dollars to spend I also got a cheese turnover. The gyro was quite big and very very tasty. After the gyro I was so full and couldn't eat the turnover for the rest of the day. I had it as a snack the next day and it was still delicious. I can't wait to go back and try the pork gyro. read more

Well, I had Groupon for $10 and decided to stop in to Flame on a random Wednesday with a friend. I was kind of excited because there were so many good reviews about this place. We work over in the Financial District so why not? Eh. Not so much. I echo another review I read that said "Did I come on an off day?" The flavor was just off, the presentation poor, the food salty. Sorry, Flame, my heart's not on fire. read more

The ladies that work here are really nice, but the gyro was not as yummy as I had hoped. There was too much veggie and not enough chicken, though what I got was deliciously seasoned. Maybe I was disappointed because I am a huge non-lover of raw onion. They do a great job with packaging so the wrap doesn't make a mess though...wrap made tightly, then put into a plastic bag, then put into a paper bag before handed to you. They were super nice and didn't rush me even though I walked in a few minutes after they were supposed to close. This would be a great lunch place to take-out and eat at Post Office Square Park. read more

The American dream is alive and well via Armenian/Mediterranean food! The pride of ownership and excellent service is delivered directly by the owner who is usually here to great you and take your order. So far I've only had the $5 Chicken Kebab wrap special which is always delicious. I'm looking forward to expanding out to the plates and gyros. They have loyalty punch cards and accept LevelUp payments which helps save a little over time. My only request/recommendation for this recommendation would be that this restaurant consider an alternate "free side" than chips or a small cup of pickled veggies. Chips are crappy empty calories and the pickled veggies aren't much to snack on. Maybe they could consider larger containers for the pickled veggies, brown rice, hummus w/ pita or some other veggie option. Please give these folks a try! read more

I LOVE FLAME CAFE!!!! First of all- the lamb Gyro is absolutely DELISH! The lamb is perfectly flavored and the fresh pita is to die for! I love that when I go in, the welcoming faces behind the counter already know my order! My mouth is watering thinking about it that damn gyro! Another favorite of mine is the morning wrap. They are just so fresh! I get mine with tomatoes, cilantro, onions and feta- best way to start the day! My mouth is watering right now..... I love Flame so much that I have even gotten my office to use them for monthly catering. The food comes piping hot, the portions are very generous and everyone in my office is excited when they hear that Flame is one the way! The delivery is always on time and you can tell that the owner takes lots of pride in what he does and the food that he presents. Top notch!!! Go there!!! You wont' regret it!!! read more

Sweet baby jesus the cheese turnover!!! Flakey like danish pastry but so cheesy it'd make an american queasy. I could stuff my face with maybe five of these. They come out piping hot every morning. Their bagels are also soft, even when toasted, which is actually something I thoroughly enjoy. I used to come here often in the mornings when they'd just opened the store. The staff are very friendly and used to shove coupon after coupon into my bag on my way out. I don't work in the area anymore, but if my previous experiences said anything of the service, Flame Cafe will be around for a while! read more

A thousand times No. Never again. Coworker and I both got sick off the dry, rubbery chicken and plain unseasoned rice. I'm sorry but this was a huge misstep and the Chicken Kebob was very mediocre in taste but worse in the long run. Only went because Sabroso was packed. Never again. read more
