There's a little drive-in in Small Town, UT that I like. For a few years they had a banner up that proclaimed "Voted third-best burger in SE Utah!" I always figured they had a good sense of humor, and grasped the irony of advertising that. I get the feeling though, that Flagstaff Eye Care doesn't understand that "Best Eyecare in Flagstaff" isn't the flex they think it is. I mean, if you want the best of last century's technology, go for it. If you like being upcharged for the Optoscan that my last three optometrists offered standard in the price of a visit, help yourself. If you enjoy arguing with the business manager about the bill for walking out because you don't like being dilated, dyed, and numbed, which I freely admit I did, then this is the place for you. I'm a semi-annual user of optometry and I haven't been dilated or numbed in over a decade. All the reviews say the doctors are good, but I never made it that far. The front end of the business is putting up barriers to getting that care, and they need to fix that. So go ahead and book an appointment, but you'll have plenty of time to think about it, because they're booked out about three months, and good for them! I was in town after a backpacking trip, where my daughter stepped on my glasses. Fortunately the lenses weren't damaged but the hinges were severely bent. On a local friend's recommendation I called Flagstaff Eye Care and Ryan suggested I come right in. He and Susie warned me that attempting to fix the glasses might break them, which I agreed to. This has been my desired optical shop for 2 years now. They are reliably good at everything they do. They have excellent choices in frames, and great customer care. I probably would still be there trying to figure out which frame fit my face better if it wasn't for the staff. They also accommodate for special needs and time sensitive circumstances as well. I did have a hiccup with my eye exam a few weeks ago, and needed to get it asap. They care about their customers enough to actually call to make sure I was ok! It's the little things like this that make me realize how lucky it is to have finally found a good optical group. Having just recently moved to Flagstaff and my glasses being several years old I decided to give the office a try since they accepted my insurance. After seeing Dr. Nick I'm very glad I did. The office staff are professional and the exam was thorough. Having worn glasses since childhood I've seen the good and the bad of doctors and the optometrist here was great about explaining my vision changes and recommending a plan going forward. They have a large selection of good to high end frames and high quality lenses. My glasses were done in less than 2 weeks and even after a few hours I can tell what a difference they make. Fantastic -- I'm in Flagstaff from Phoenix and the screw holding one of my glasses' nose piece fell out. I couldn't find it, but still had the nose piece. Plainly, 2020 is not an excuse. I was charged twice for my son and I for glasses and an exam. Even though he never should have been charged for an exam, and had to pay fees to my bank for the overdraft. But that was last year after I waited over a-month to get my appointment. So this year my daughter is in need of an eye exam. I got an appointment at a different eye doctor only to find out that there billing made yet another mistake. She can not get an eye exam until September because flagstaff eye care charged my insurance to the wrong family member for an eye exam that should have never been charged. Not the same birthday not the same name. If you want over priced glasses and a jacked up bill go to Flagstaff eye care. If you want overpriced glasses go to Phoenix. And get your eye exam done by anyone else. I don't have time to do your job and mine. Never will I ever return. again this review is almost a year delayed. I believe everyone makes mistakes and accidents happen, but now you have messed up to many things. read more

After spending thousands of dollars battling my 3 year, non-stop, eye problems (constant painful styes and chalazions in both eyes, as well as blepharitis), I finally found the BEST optometrist--Dr. Lawrence Richardson. Dr. Richardson made me very comfortable--more so than any other doctor I've been too, and the staff at Flagstaff Eye Care are exceptional. Whenever I need to make an appointment, or get a prescription refill, they are always so polite and prompt. They fulfill my requests faster than any other eye care place I've been to (out of the 7 different doctors I went to and twenty-plus appointments). And to my surprise Dr. Richardson was able to cure my issues 100%, within two months, when even the optometrist at the Mayo Clinic couldn't (and their "supposed" to be the best). The optometrist I went to at the Mayo Clinic charged me hundreds of dollars per appointment and never did anything to help me. She also said at the earliest my issues could be cleared in a year or two. That in mind, I wish I could rate Flagstaff Eye Care higher than five stars--especially considering how affordable their prices are. It's been over a year now since I first went to Flagstaff Eye Care and I have not had a single eye problem. Considering my issues occurred from the ages of 19-21 I thought I would have these problems for the rest of my life. Words cannot express how thankful I am to Dr. Richardson and his team. I've suffered with dry eye over the last year and Dr. Samuels has worked with me on solutions for it. The eyeglass department has given me such great service. I didn't think I would ever use the guarantee but last year I got new prescription sunglasses and while hiking I tripped and I broke one side of them. I had been a patient at this office for a few years. Unfortunately poor experiences with the front office has driven me to move on to another doctor. I scheduled an appointment using their online portal. The next day I got a cancellation email recommending the same time and day. I really should have received a phone call to work with me to schedule a new appointment. I rescheduled online again. This time I showed up at the scheduled time but it wasn't in their system. So I rescheduled, again, in person while I was there. I got a cancellation email for the "lost" appointment the day after. I showed up for the third try. Signed in, and sat for a little over 2 hours. As a health care professional, the office is dirty & rundown. The receptionists were helpful & courteous. The ancillary staff performing visual field exams, etc were rude & seemed unhappy at their jobs. Dr Kashuda was outgoing & friendly. The importance of my eyes being corrected to 20/10 in each eye was clearly expressed. When informed that I would be purchasing corrective lenses elsewhere, he went into a long demostration of how superior his office lab was by showing the clear visibility of an star-like object projected on a screen, and that this degree of clarity was "ONLY POSSIBLE" with his in-office lens company. As a result corrective lenses (used my own frames) were purchased for $300 after several "discounts." Dr Kashuda said he corrected my vision to 20/20 because as he stated, "I wanted to give you the benfit of my new equipment" while ignoring my previous request to be corrected to 20/10. In reality, he did not even correct them to 20/40 (see below). When my vision was very minimally improved with the new lenses from his lab, I requested to return the lenses. None of my multiple phone calls were returned. I was stuck with $300 lenses in my own frame. I barely passed the AZ driver's license vision test with those lenses. BOTTOM LINE...DR KASHUDA & FLAGSTAFF EYE CENTER ARE ONLY CONCERNED WITH GENERATING REVENUE $$$ AND NOT PATIENT CARE. Other people have told me they received the wrong eyeglass prescription as well. read more

I was visiting flagstaff from out of town and had a destructive event with my eye glasses. Desperate to find a way to see myself driving around and driving home to Phoenix this week, I needed a replacement solution. I retrieved my prescription from my regular eye doctor and began to call every eye doctor/eye care place in flagstaff. My first three attempts were met with complications and an unwillingness to just do the right thing. I was looking for a single trial pair of my contact prescription so I could get by. Most places had regulations and restrictions. Not able to provide a trial lens without an appointment, not able to without purchasing a 6 month supply etc. on my fourth try, I called flagstaff eye care. They met me with understanding, empathy, and a will to just be a human being and do the right thing. Very disappointing experience. I have worked as a professional assistant at a doctors office for many years. i also happen to be married to a physician. Therefore, i know the importance of clarity, communication and honest billing. This office has egregious problems with financial clarity and unwillingness to ameliorate honest billing. Our daughter started at NAU and we looked for an office so she could get new glasses and begin a long term patient relationship. Before we even made an appointment with the office we walked in and chatted with them about the option of making monthly payments thats would fit our daughters budget. They happily AGREED to partial payments that she could afford. Then we made an appointment. Upon billing and purchase they went back on there agreement on a payment plan. So we suggested they remove some options with her glasses so the purchase could fit her budget. We made what we thought was a full payment for her glasses. Then later they billed us an additional $108. They lack transparency in billing, charges and in their up sells. BEWARE!!! read more

All 3 of us go for our examinations at the same time, then off to breakfast. It's become a tradition. You won't find better customer service or more personable employees right on up to the the doctor himself. He even mentioned to me this morning that FEC is streamlining the consumer experience by reducing annoying patient paperwork so as to focus on customer service first and foremost. But, he didn't have to tell me, it was completely evident all on its own merits. Eyesight isn't something you mess around with or take lightly. That's precisely why we choose Flagstaff Eye Care. Been going to this office over 15 years. It is shabby and old...Looks like nothing has been updated since 1975, inside or out. I've stayed with them because I really like Dr Koshuta, but I have had problems with the staff many times. They once screwed up my contact lens order so badly, it was a total nightmare getting it fixed. Last straw was today when I tried to make an appointment and got told I couldn't see my doctor until January. I've never had a problem getting in to see him before the end of the year and I always make my appointment in November. I guess she didn't like how irritated I this made me, so Mariah decided to hang up on me. I called back immediately and she must have seen my caller ID and decided to pick up and place me on hold without speaking, as the hold music started without anyone saying "Hello" or "Can you please hold?" I'm guessing she was hoping I would just go away. Guess what, Mariah? It worked. I just made an appointment with another office and will not return here. You can explain to Dr Koshuta why he lost a very longtime and loyal patient today. read more

Very shabby office. I didn't make it in to see the doctor, because the staff waited until I arrived for my appointment to tell me that they couldn't track down my insurance, though I had provided them insurance information by phone. In the weeks leading up to my appointment, they had contacted me at least three times to ask me to contact them to confirm my appointment, and to ask me to post a positive review of their business on their Google plus page (though I had nothing to review, since I hadn't yet been to their office). I find it strange that in all those communications they chose not to mention that they could not get in touch with my insurance company. In the waiting room, at my actual appointment, and by recommendation of the receptionist, I called my insurance--with the same information I had provided the office--and was able to quickly track down my insurance. There, at the appointment, I learned that, contrary to what the receptionist had told me on the phone, they did not in fact accept my insurance.
