    Amazing selection!

This place is a Hidden Treasure! The service we received from Lone and Augustin was exceptional! It was so busy and they were incredibly friendly and helpful explaining all the many options and combinations possible. Every sip and bite was absolutely incredible, it's $$$ but honestly, Totally Worth It!!!

Colonialen Litteraturhuset is one of three elegant upscale Colonialen menus near Old Bergen…read more The room is beautiful with great decorating and a fantastic triptych painting on one wall. The food is arranged artfully. How is the food? * * * * * * * Well, the buttered toast that came with my steak tartare was excellent ... * * * * * * * My wife liked her gnocchi because they had no cheese. * * * * * * * I think I have run out of good things to say. * * * * * * * We had other stuff besides buttered toast garnishes and gnocchi. Nothing was terrible. I have had better pea soups in Swedish sports bars. I have had better steak tartare in American Korean restaurants. Everything looked nice but was undistinguished ... except for the price. * * * One of their sister restaurants offers a tasting menu at a price far higher than what we paid at the Litteraturhuset branch. Given the ho hum nature of what we had ... That tasting menu looks like a bad gamble.

Location: In the heart of Bergen and easily walkable if you're staying in the center…read more The place: It reminds me of a super modern, partially hipster-y cafeteria. Great decor - semi minimal but warm and cozy. I dig it. The goods: After eating random Icelandic cuisine for a few days, I was really looking for something light. I order the chicken salad and it was delicious! The greens were fresh, the check was tender, and the whole damn thing was full of flavour. The dressing was similar to a Caesar dressing, which appealed to me less but it was good nonetheless. I got some raspberry juice and that was a lovely treat. Great little spot to check out if you're in Bergen. Service: OK. Price point: All I know is that shit is expensive in Norway. Especially if, like me, you're coming from Canada. Our dollar generally sucks! That said, this didn't break the bank (I don't think... ).

After our late arrival into Bergen we decided to eat some Norwegian fish dishes at Pingvinen…read more We arrived at the right time and got seated at the back table. Service was fairly quick. Menu contained a number of Norwegian dishes of seafood, meat (including reindeer) and vegetarian. We knew ahead of time we wanted to try the plukkfisk and gratinated fish pie. The pie was the best dish for us that night. It had a nice and creamy texture along with a crunch on the crust due to the frying. It was a light dish compared to the plukkfisk. The plukkfisk was quite heavy with this fish/mashed potato mixture and while the fried bacon added some texture it could've used a little more acid for our tastes.

They have free wifi and the password is at the bottom of one of the blackboard behind the bartender. Opted for the reindeer filet and it was excellent. The reindeer was cooked to a perfect medium and seared to perfection on the outside. The flavors were excellent and this was served with a side of fried potatoes, green beans along with a bed of creamy mushroom. The vibes from the Gen Z staff were lit too. Seems like they were complaining about bf issues... Pricing may be elevated as I'm not sure if this was a tourist trap as I didn't see any locals. 495 NOK for lunch.

You can pick the available seafoods and they will cook it or the menu. The foods here are wonderful and fresh. If you're into seasoning and spices then you need to be out of the box since Nordic foods are about natural as is and less seasoning so keep that in mind. Love the oysters and the salmon, chowder is nice and mild but rich. Wonderful services and can't say much with delish foods, beautiful view, chill vibe and great service.

Service is friendly. Loud ambiance and casual neat. 1. Fries - Good and mostly crispy with aoili. 2. Live King Crab from the Aquarium - Premium over the frozen king crab but needed to try to see. It was juicy and very unique. Never had it this juicy and sweet before. Large portion cost $240 USD which is about 0.9 lbs or 400g. 3. Mussels - Garlicky broth. Very good and small to medium sized meat. Overall average to USA. 4. Fish soup - Tiny bit salty but overall good amount of fish included. 5. Salmon (Aurora) sashimi - Buttery, smooth and very good. Source for Japan's premium sushi. Overall, gave it 5 stars despite the high price tag for its uniqueness in live King Crab, amazing views and the tourist premium.
