When visiting Bergen, you have to visit Bryggen, even if touristy attractions aren't your thing. In it, you will find Kaf Kafe. It feels like a mom and pop shop still which is great to see but honestly, the food was just decent. We got the waffle with strawberries and it was OK. It was a floppy waffle, which might just be how waffles are done in Norway and the flavors were decent. It was highly rated across platforms so maybe we were going in with higher expectations but I am not sure why it was rated so high. It is fine and maybe a spot for drinks, but not a place I'd say you'd have to visit. It you have a bit of time, try walking out further into the back streets as I feel you might find a less-touristy place with better options. read more

The cafe is located in the cute old building. Can be a little tricky to find as you have to walk through/behind the front face. One of the top things we wanted to try on our Norway trip was Norwegian brown cheese on the waffle for 59 kr. The taste was interesting but not anything to rave about. The waffle was already made as you can see in the bakery case. They just reheat it in a microwave and put the cheese slices on. The brown cheese itself tasted like a mildy salty cheese with mild cheese flavor. The waffle was thin and soft with a hint of sweetness. Friendly service right away!!! The coffee is delicious as are the waffles!! The waffles have a slight sweetness all by themselves but is very tasty with the recommended berry sauce and cream. "Uno-do'-tres-cuatro...You know I want chai, you know I want chai" ~Pitbull Norway is considered one of the leading countries for coffee consumption in the world, with seven out of ten Norwegians drinking coffee every day. So it remains a mystery why we encountered so many awful cups before finally stumbling into some mean bean at this cozy cafe, tucked deep down the dark, wooden alleyways of Bryggen. To escape the heat and tourist traffic, we sat indoors, where we appreciated the casual ambiance maintained by the space, along with the quirky art pieces dressing the cafe. After ogling the colorful desserts and sandwiches at the front counter, we finally placed our orders with none other than Pitbull's Norwegian doppelgänger! I was hoping Mr. 305 would deliver some "around the world fist pumps" along with the bill, but sadly none were forthcoming. I ordered an ice chai tea latte, and it was absolutely the best coffee drink I had in Norway. I did not order anything to eat, but I regretted not trying the Thai Pandan cake, sliced into little ovals that resembled cute dessert sushi rolls. Along with his coffee, my cousin ordered a slice of vegan apple cake, because hey, it's always a great day for cake, right? The cake was devoured quickly and declared to be delicious. While relaxing with our refreshments, Mr. Worldwide chatted with seated customers, while exhuberantly offering to take everyone's photos. His charm and bubbly personality won us over and elevated the whole experience for us! This was an unexpected gem. We arrived into town yesterday evening and wanted to start the day with some coffee and pastries. Found this amazing little shop in the middle of the Bryggen. Instant favorite. Super friendly shop owner. Full variety of coffees, pastries, sandwiches. Is a beautiful historic building that pira you back 400 years. You can feel how people lived here in those coffee shop. Must stop while in Bergen. read more

Excellent cappuccino and excellent service! Very friendly server. I got it to go so not sure about the rest of the offerings but what I had was wonderful. It is a small place in a maze of little stores and a museum at the end of it. It was part of a U-shaped structure from the 1800s(?). There were a few seats in the cafe but no more than about 5 to 10 seats total. read more
