After a bit of a confusing time at the check in line, my trip on the Fjord Line from Bergen to Stavanger was uneventful and comfortable. But this review is really for the onboard restaurant Grieg. Yes it is expensive, but it is worth every cent you pay and more. The highest price prix fixe menu (75 DKK per person) included an appetizer, main course, and dessert, each with a personalized wine pairing, a glass of cava, and after-dessert coffee with top-shelf liquor of your choice. The food was exquisite, and our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Easily the best meal I had on my entire trip, and that's saying a lot (certainly a lot better than the comparably-priced meal I had at Blue Lagoon, but that's a review for another day, kids). I don't remember much of what I did after the meal, but I seem to have made my way up to the top deck and taken a bunch of photos of the water (probably a good thing that there are really tall glass partitions between observers and the edge of the boat).
It's tempting to stick with the less expensive dining options while en route to your destination, reasoning that you can always plan your fancy meal for after you arrive, but if you find yourself on the Fjord Line while Grieg is open, please take the opportunity to eat there--you'll be glad you did.
