Great food, great service! What else needs to be said?! We were visiting from the east, and we're happy to discover this little gem.

Went on a dinner date to five ten bistro last night and I was impressed!! As soon as we arrived we were seated right away. Wait staff was very friendly, courteous and was on point. We got our drinks and food right away. Bar drinks were on point and food was delicious! My date said he would "definitely go back again" (he's very particular about restaurants and this was a huge compliment). Our dinner date worked out great because our experience here was wonderful! I love this place! The staff and owner are amazing but the food is phenomenal. We have been here twice and sat outside with delicious beer and wonderful food. They have a decent beer selection and I can't choose anything aside from the poke! I order it everytime because it is so delicious. I moved from the coast and good fish is hard to find. The carnitas sandwich is so good! Unbelievably I am in love with he fresh garlic fries and I usually do not eat fries. They are crispy and so full of garlic, I can't get enough of them. Hopefully you get there early and meet the owner (before he heads to the kitchen), he is genuine and very concerned with his guests.Give them a try! read more

I recently drove to Merced from out of town to go to the bistro for my mom's birthday. We first asked for ice tea unsweetened and she told us that they didn't have any and I said are you sure can you go check please (because I have not heard of a place that didn't have unsweetened iced tea) and she came back and brought some. So that told me that the server kind of didn't know what she was doing. We ordered the clam chowder which was good. My mom ordered the steak medallions which was supposed to be filet mignon and it was really tough and chewy. We ordered it medium well I don't know if it wasn't cooked enough or it was over cooked because we've had medium well filet mignon at other places that you can cut with a butter knife. But seem like for the price that we should be satisfied and when we told the server that it wasn't good and it was chewy, she just looked at my mom and then asked how my meal was and I said it was good, I had ordered the pork chop, she says OK, and then walks off. She didn't say I'm sorry to hear you're not pleased. Let me take 5% off your bill nothing. Then, at the end, when she brings the bill, I tell her that the filet mignon was really chewy because I tried to change plates with my mom, so she would be pleased for her birthday, but I couldn't even finish the fillet mignon because it was so tough. And again the server could care less and instead told me that that's what she orders and it's really good when she orders it. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this place. read more

The place was nice, I wish I could say the same about the food. I ordered the 510 Penne Pasta, everything about the dish was good EXCEPT the chicken. It was cold, grey and so dry I couldn't even swallow. The kind of thing that would make you question everything else on the menu. My daughter had the kids Alfredo... she had maybe 3 bites. Hidden Gem of Merced Late evening dining, few customers, sat directly across from kitchen, and at 300+ lbs and 6 foot, really pretty tough to miss. Waiter was friendly, had good suggestions, and was available when needed. What needed to be cold was and what should be hot was. Excellant flavors, good textures, cocktail appropriately mixed. Five ten bistro is a wonderful experience. Just finished a relaxing dinner while looking out the window as it rained. Kaylee gave excellent service and attention. She was proactive. The food is always flavorful and outstanding and tonight was no exception. My Chicken Marsala had flavorful sauce and two perfect pieces of chicken. My mushroom bisque was a great change from my usual tomato bisque. Smoked salmon app had a savory Smokey flavor and I will get that again. I always feel comfortable in the ambiance of quiet elegance. I don't usually eat here, but thought I would give it a try, I got there 2 for $18 a grilled cheese and Cesar salad, salad was good but for the grilled cheese I was expecting a gourmet grilled cheese like white cheddar with applewood bacon on a good sourdough but instead I got American cheese in between Texas toast, reminded me of a sonic grilled cheese. I would also pass on garlic fries, nothing special about them and fries were drenched in grease. read more

This restaurant is a meeting place half way between my daughters house and my house. We both travel almost 2 hours to eat there. Food is excellent! Both times we have eaten here it has been really delicious! The bad thing is that their service usually just 1 waitress has to wait on the entire restaurant! We were there last Saturday for over 2.5 hours. Which was 1 plus hours too long. Food was so good but service was way to slow. Not our waitress fault because she was by herself. Had celebrated our valentines day last night, and wow what great service! The brushcetta was amazing, I had the salmon and hubby had the flat iron steak. Tasty to say the least, and the margarita and fresh fruit mojito were very good and strong. If you want a dessert, the raspberry cheesecake is more than enough to share! Disappointment. Disappointment is the overall feeling I had after dining at this downtown Merced location. Not my first time trying their food, but in store, it is likely to be my last. Five Ten Bistro has been a fantastic competitor and victor in food events hosted right outside their patio. Whether its rain or shine, they've grilled tasty gourmet burgers for Burgers and Brews. When there was a chill in the air they have tasted victory at Vino and Tapas with their impressive dishes. An amazing paella dish that had me going back for more, but when I went to the restaurant it was no where to be found. The creativity and flavor had seemed to also leave the building. My first experience was with two dishes, their Chicken and Stout waffles, and the Rack of Lamb. Disappointment. After having wonderful food from 4 events, I held them to higher standards. The chicken was fried like any other, nothing impressive, but the waffle was unbalanced and dry. When something is dry I like to dip it or even drench it in a sauce, but with this dish that is normally drowned in syrup and hot sauce, Five Ten Bistro decided a drizzle would do. Waiting for the waitress meant that my food went cold, so rather than a request for sauce and a reheat, I asked for a box. The Rack of Lamb, although an improvement, was only due to not the main part of the entree, but the delicious vegetable side. Roasted, the lamb was bland and somewhat tough. Although paired with a balsamic reduction, the star of the dish was more of a supporting role. My second experience was just this past weekend. Knowing that there was something lacking from first experience. I suggested that my dining companion and I order an item to share, if we were amazed, we could order additional food. We chose the Poke, Ahi Tuna in a sesame soy sauce with wonton chips. You would think this would be amazing, especially considering how fresh, unfishy, and nicely textured the Ahi was. Yet, no. We both found the dish to be lacking salt and even with a squeeze of lemon, from my glass of water, it lacked a flavor to wow my tastebuds. I can say with the existing standards and menu that any future visits will not be of my choice. I really wanted this restaurant to be good because it was our first sit down restaurant in town without the kids but the service was pretty bad. I don't blame our server, I believe the issue lies with being understaffed or inexperienced members. Many things just didn't go smoothly for us. Things started out good, we were seated within a few minutes on a Friday night. Ordered our appetizer first and things kinda went downhill from there. It took about 20 min for our appetizer to come out and in between that time our server didn't came back to take our order until the apps came out. It took another 50 mins for our food to come out, not blaming our server because he checked up on us 3 times ensuring that our food was coming soon. On top of that, my husband ordered the lamb medium rare, and it came out pretty much well done and very tough, but we didnt want to wait another 50 mins to wait for it to be corrected so we didn't say anything. My dish, chicken piccata came out pretty good but after taking 2 bites, I wasn't even hungry anymore after waiting the 50 mins, and my husband just wanted to grab boxes, pay any leave which took another 20 mins to get the check and the wrong size lids for our to-go box. At this point, Im unsure if we'll come back. All our food was good aside from the lamb being over cooked, just timing of our food coming out ruined the whole experience. I am a fairly frequent visitor to Merced (2 or 3 times/year) and have tried a lot of the local places. I understand that this is a place most locals consider to be upscale and maybe even "the place" to go. Maybe I hit them on an off day, not sure, but my experience did not encourage me to return. It wasn't terrible, just sort of weird, really. I'll explain: We arrived just before 7:00 and stepped inside the front door. They had live music outside, so most guests were out there, with the indoor dining room fairly empty. We stood at the reception area while servers went in and out of the door, someone who seemed in a leadership position gave orders to the staff, and no one acknowledged us. It was only about 2 minutes, but it felt really awkward. It would have been great if someone - anyone - said "we will be with you in just a moment" or something like that, but nothing. Finally a woman came out from somewhere and asked "indoors or outdoors?" Due to the still high temp outside, we went with indoors and we were seated near the back. Perfect, I thought. What I didn't know is that we were near the inside pathway to the bar - throughout dinner fairly loud, occasionally boisterous patrons came out of the bar, presumably on their way to the restroom...not sure, but this along with the initial lack of welcome and a server who while borderline pleasant just seemed overworked or something - this all went together to make this a place I don't plan to return to. I should say that the food and drinks were good. The mushroom bisque was especially nice and my salad was very fresh. My dining companions had some kind of fish - mahi mahi, I think - and they found it perfectly prepared. My recommendation for the ownership would be let the staff exude genuine friendliness and warmth because I felt they missed this mark here. read more

Was attracted by the water fountain and nice outside dining atmosphere and palm trees. Was disappointed almost immediately by the less than warm hostess and slow service. Menu looked great and proved to be just eh. BLT club was lazily prepared with cold undercooked bacon and cheese after requesting no cheese. My bacon cheese burger with egg had no egg and was just okay. It was very slow, not many customers so it was surprisingly slow service. No effort made to impress or even satisfy. I also overheard table behind us return their warm and wilted salad. I am still trying to find a good spot in Merced on my way to UC Merced... Pinocchio Restaurant is across the street and still the best spot for casual dining so far. Won't come back to five-ten bistro. Ten-four... Over and out. read more

Just yum! Sunday Brunch isn't usually so far from my home, but it was with the trip from Manteca to Merced. Mushroom bisque had a bit of spice and the 510 Penne pasta was super creamy and flavorfull. The star was the the appetizer, though! Bacon wrapped dates with a balsamic reduction....Heaven! Also...Bottomless Mimosas. Our waiter kept us topped off our entire visit. Will not be going back. Food poisoning and weak service. Went here for my wife's birthday with friends. Service was rough, at best. Waiter was personable, but did not seem competent at job. Forgot to bring the chicken my wife ordered on her salad. Instead of making up for his mistake he just didn't charge us for the chicken. Also never offered to refill any of our drinks, including water, despite checking in. Seems more interested in things elsewhere. My wife's salad caused extreme food poisoning, as she spent the following day in an Urgent Care, getting medication and being treated for dehydration. Everything else we ate together and shared with friends that day, except her salad. Place is over priced, has pretty much the Cisco truck selection of entrees. Does nothing special except have a full bar. We only went here because my wife wanted to dine outside for her birthday. read more

Had a very nice business lunch in a private room at 510. Service was outstanding and so was the food. I am vegan and although there was no vegan items on our pri fix menu, they whipped up a wonderful stuffed pepper for me. Which was delicious. Overall highly recommend. read more

I'm adding an extra star because this new restaurant needs to be visited by you right now. I had the calamari, red snapper special and crime brûlée. The calamari was seasoned perfectly. The red snapped had a nice, light and creamy sauce served over some sticky jasmine rice. The crime brûlée had berries mixed in to the brûlée - it wasn't too much. It was perfect. The staff was attentive and the co-owner was open to feedback on the menu. If you live here, make this place a regular spot. If you're driving through, make sure to stop here. Omg! So disappointed with lunch today! This is the first time ever I had bad lunch here! The avocado on my burger was old as hell! It tasted so gross! The penne pasta was so watered down! Gross! Ugh!!!! Tried the Mahi Mahi burger and it was ok. The fish and chip was a little over fried and fries were super salted. Ekkk, Service was just ok, for it being a very slow day. I really love the ambiance of this place and owners are pretty cool and chill I just wished service was better and the food of course! Don't get me wrong, sometimes food is on point! Cooked to perfection and temps right, but sometimes, you get a burnt bun and cold patty lol but all and all, they do have a really good Southwest burger that never seems to disappoint read more

This place was mediocre at best. Nothing special about the food. My biggest complaint is that we sat down at 6:30 with my companion getting his salad about 10 minutes after we put in the order. Entrees didn't come until 8pm. They were pretty busy but half way through our time there it did lighten up, but that had no impact on getting our food to us faster. Not coming back. read more

I'd been here before a long, long time ago but this was my 1st time with my kids and BF. We went to see a movie & were hungry. Everything just wasn't catching our eye & then we saw this place. It wasn't too busy when we got there. At 7pm on a Saturday I was unsure if it was a good or bad thing. The ambiance was welcoming, very serene with soft lighting. It felt very cozy, date like. For about 15 minutes we perused the menu as David brought us ice water. I could only give this place 4 stars because every couple of minutes (literally!!) the manager came out of his little office & this very BRIGHT light would just change the entire ambiance. Every time he walked in/out, it distracted us & turned our attention towards him. I was annoyed and felt that his little office should be in the back of the restaurant, NOT RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE DINERS SIT. It was distracting enough that I couldn't give it 5 stars. We ordered the paprika fried mushrooms for an appetizer. The ranch dressing was very thin & watery. Besides being a bit hot/spicy flavored to me (from the paprika), I felt the ranch should have toned down the hot flavor. Well... it didn't. Disappointed but not enough to make a fuss. For dinner, I ordered the mushroom cheese tortellini. It only comes with the mushroom tortellini, no sides, no nothing. Make sure you order a salad or something if you're wanting more than pasta. Don't get me wrong, it was delish. I enjoyed it. My boyfriend ordered the Flat Iron steak, medium rare with Yukon potatoes (not mashed) and veggies. The steak is topped with spinach/mushroom sauce. He says it added to the flavor of the steak & didn't require steak sauce. Chicken marsala was the food choice of my oldest son. He loves chicken & said this one was very juicy and delicious. He wants to go back soon! My other son, eventhough he's a picky teen, had a grilled cheese sandwich with french fries because nothing else piqued his interest. Let me tell you... he said of all the grilled cheese sandwiches, that one was on the top 10 that he's had. The fries were nice and golden, tasty in his opinion. Would we go back? Yes, probably.. but definitely not sitting inside the restaurant. Most likely sitting outside where we expect to be distracted and watch the passer-by's. The food is great. See the pix I uploaded. While the offered food choice was varied, and the amount more than abundant, I would say it was about average in quality compared to places I've dined out of town. The thing I found most annoying was dining the evening a large group from UC Merced was also present,. This group was about 30 people who,after some welcoming speeches, were loudly enjoying the gathering. That being said, our server was efficient and friendly. I would suggest management inform those reserving a table there would be a large crowd in the restaurant at the same time. We would have been happy to alter our reservation. read more

Five Ten Bistro has one of the best locations for date-night in downtown Merced. I give them a 10/10 for ambiance. I ordered the chicken Marsala which was good, but nothing too extraordinary so I'm changing the scale and giving them a 3/5 for food. (I would go back to try the other dishes just because of their location). Also, I had gone around 7pm; it was not busy at all. Service was a little slow, but if your on a date and don't want to be interrupted, then the slow service won't bother you. read more
