What a God forsaken town! The majority of decent restaurants don't open until Friday! We ended up here by our own mistake. We looked for a Hyatt hotel in Sonora and without looking at the city, we booked here in Merced! UGH! So, back to my beer. They were having problems with the PB Stout tap. I ordered a wine instead. We've been to the restaurant 3 times now over the past six weeks (Oct/Nov 2021) and my big question I ask myself is why did I wait so long to go? The food and staff are fantastic! Not-so-new to Merced diners, but new to me, is Five Ten Bistro, which takes it's name from their address at 510 West Main Street, in lovely Bob Hart Square. California bistro at it's finest, with a elegant touch that caters to the cuisine of Merced diners. Five Ten Bistro has been a Merced dining destination for quite some time, and it was about time that I was able to pay a visit to this amazing restaurant... again... after a long hiatus of nearly eight years. On this early afternoon in mid May, the patio was very popular for dining, as the weather was warm and sunny, which made outdoor dining a pleasure. The restaurant features a large patio for outdoor dining and is known among Merced residents as a great outdoor dining destination. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the small bar with only four stools. The bar is compact and comfortable, and offers every kind of mixed drink that you would enjoy. Since the weather was so wonderful, all dining was outside, on the lovely patio. From the "Seafood, Steaks and Chicken" section of the menu, today I went with "Beer Batter Fish and Chips," which happens to be one of my all-time favorites. The menu simply describes this amazing entree as, "Home made beer batter, white fish and French fries, chipotle and lemon garlic aioli dipping sauces." Such a simple description for such an elegant meal! Five Ten Bristro give you FOUR pieces of perfectly seasoned white fish - most likely cod - and battered like you'd expect if you were dining at a London pub. The fish was deep fried to a perfect golden, crispy brown on the outside, and inside the batter, the fish was tender, juicy and white, just the way perfect deep fried fish should be. The batter-to-fish was just right, and Five Ten Bistro seems to have "nailed" fish and chips, any way you look at it. Four pieces of perfect fish makes for an amazing and filling meal. The chips, or as 510 calls them, the "French fries..." were simply a work of art. They were deep fried to a light golden brown on the outside, and chewy, juicy white tender on the inside, as perfect fries should be. Dipping sauce... OK, that's another subject, but if you're dining at a fish and chips restaurant in London, you get vinegar for "sauce." Five Ten Bistro got my attention, as they did not offer vinegar - much to my surprise - but no less than THREE dipping sauces were offered on the side. In all of the "fish and chip years" I've eaten through, I've never seen a restaurant that offered THREE dipping sauces! Three dipping sauces were included with this amazing lunch, and the sauces were ranch, ketchup, and "garlic aioli" as per the description of the menu. I have NEVER enjoyed fish and chips with three dipping sauces before today's visit to 510 Bistro, as one usually expects to find malt vinegar or ketchup for "dipping" pleasure. Four pieces of delicious fish, a large helping of fries and three dipping sauces... Five Ten Bistro serves delicious fish and chips, and much more. No wonder "510" is a "dining destination" for Mercedians, and those who appreciate fine food! When you combine the amazing food, large portions, along with the lovely patio and friendly service, how could anybody not rate Five Ten Bistro five stars? I was on a time crunch so I decided to have food delivered from 510 Bistro. I received my food ridiculously fast which was Crab Louie salad and calamari. The calamari came with three sauces: cocktail sauce (which I asked for specifically), aioli and tartar sauce. I cannot speak to the tartar sauce because I am not a fan of any tartar sauce. The cocktail sauce and aioli shine because you can tell they are made in house. You can tell this is not store-bought. My calamari was crispy on the outside but the calamari was not super chewy. There were some small rings and also baby calamari. (FYI to those who don't like whole calamari). The breading had excellent flavor. The crab Louie salad was fresh. The thousand island dressing also seemed like it was homemade. It had a little bit of a kick to it. It was excellent. 510 bistro never lets us down. Even though food delivery can sometimes bring food that's mushy or not the gold standard, my experience today was like I was at the restaurant: Excellent. read more

I sat down with my parents, lovely outdoor seating, clean staff and a sign saying "Masks optional" (YES!!) We sat down my folks ordered "Mixed Greens" salad to start. I got the calamari.. top marks! I haven't ate Calamari THAT good in a while. Mom got the Mahi-Mahi , Dad got a rib-eye, both well done and I got the only burger they have. 8oz Kobe beef! (When I don't know a restaurant, I ALWAYS order a burger if available as a baseline to see how they cook their meat. It was so good i spent time from my drive back home to leave this review! Just stopped in here to get a quick bite . I heard great things . We were told right away by an employee that they were closed. Hmmmm so you close at 8:20pm even though your signage says 9pm . Thought this might be a quaint little place to have a nice business dinner with our customers sometime. I guess not . Customer haters. Super disappointed in this local star of Merced. Not only did it take over an hour and 20 minutes to finally get our lunch order but then we finally get back to work-late because of the delay- and we get a look at the food. The servers were not slammed. The kitchen was not slammed. Yet it took over an hour to slap together these sad excuses for salads and a pasta dish that should've taken 10 min tops to prepare. The server was highly apologetic, but we still had to go inside. Ask again for our food and check. Then we get back to the office and there was no drawing for the side salad. No utensils. No napkins. No care in any of the food items or the package. One would expect far more for a midweek lunch tab that totaled $50 for the 2 entree items and one appetizer. At least that came out within 30 minutes. Won't be back. Sad because the first experience two years ago was amazing. But perhaps the good service is reserved for private parties? read more

I took my guy out to dinner for celebrate his birthday & chose the Bistro because he's never been before. I ordered the rack of lamb which was amazing!! Cooked perfectly with the risotto & Brussels sprouts. He chose the ribeye and he said it melted in his mouth. We even had raspberry cheesecake for dessert!! Everything was great!! The staff practiced social distancing and has masks on the entire time. They had outdoor seating set up as well with heaters and coverings. I recently moved back to Merced and used to eat here previously when I was in college. One of our favorite places for brunch when they were open on Sundays and for dinners. I ordered the Ribeye for takeout yesterday after work. I got home and the steak was HUGE and absolutely delicious. It came with delicious mashed potatoes and broccoli. Everything was extremely fresh and just so dang delicious. I was very satisfied and impressed! My photo is just a screen shot of a video because I forgot to take a proper photo but it doesn't really do much justice to this 5 star meal. My friend had the salmon and it came with rice and broccoli. It was also a very large piece of salon and also very delicious! Excellent little lunch spot in downtown Merced. When I stopped in just before 1PM there were a few other people besides myself dining inside. There were a few other folks dining on the nice patio in front. I was seated as soon as I arrived and my server asked what I would like to drink just a moment later. I ordered the club sandwich and fries. My food arrived just a few minutes later. Like rocket fast! Wow. My sandwich was very tasty. I love the chipotle mayo they use! The fries were great...super skinny. Service was very attentive. My lunch was cut short due to work and I got a container and my bill right away when I asked. I did notice this looks to be a popular spot in the evening, too, as there were a lot of people on the patio when I was leaving work. I will definitely go back when I'm working in Merced. read more

A unexpected find in the heart of downtown Merced! We stopped by for an early dinner on a Thursday and this was a pleasant surprise for sure! Great atmosphere, amazing service and noteworthy food and drinks. Hand crafted cocktails and craft beer selection is impressive. Had the chicken marsala and the blackened mahi mahi. My husband devoured the chicken marsala without speaking a word! My blackened mahi mahi was equally delicious, the accompanying risotto prepared perfectly. We finished off with with a chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream dessert. Will definitely return again! So happy to see Merced stepping up the food game! read more

I came here recently for appetizers and drinks for a good friend's birthday. We were seated (outdoors) immediately, and our server was helpful by moving the umbrellas to make sure we weren't blinded by the sun (thank you!), and checking in on us every now and then even though it was a busy night. We got the poke tuna, calamari, and wings. The poke came on a plate with wonton crisps. The poke had good flavor and a nice crunch with the addition of diced jalapeños--but it was a little warm for me. I don't know about you, but room temperature raw fish irks me. The calamari was great! My favorite. I think it comes with one chipotle dip and a garlic aioli(?) dip. Squeezed some fresh lemon over it and it was perfect. The sriracha wings were spicy, but spice seems to be my friend's area of expertise so he enjoyed them. The wings were a good size, and the skin had some crisp to them. The wings held onto the sauce really well, which is a plus because the sauce was super flavorful. As for drinks I opted for a beer flight which is four 4oz glasses for 7$. That's a pretty good deal, and they have a small but decent selection on tap. I got a pear cider, Coronado brewing weekend vibes IPA, SLO's blueberry blonde, and Heretic's juicier than thou mango IPA(?). I had the new salami sandwich, and you get to choose garlic fries, sweet potato fries or regular fries, I chose regular, and my sis in law had the skirt steak with blue cheese and risotto.
