I love this place The un-known Gem of Merced. Ambiance is incredible, amazing inside! Relaxing enough to feel like a longue and the outside patio area is also nice ! Food is GREAT! and the owner is so sweet! He was walking table to tablet thanking everyone for coming and we got to talking for quite a bit. He likes changing the menu often but is willing to make just about anything you request. A MUST TRY!! for all the business professionals- this is definitely somewhere I would take my clients to lunch/ dinner!!! read more

Probably one of the fanciest places to go in Merced, great for celebrating special occasions (anniversary, graduation, promotion) or, if you go to the UC take your parents here and show them that there is more to Merced than meets the eye! The cocktails are always amazing (have Miranda make you a Bloody Mary or a Moscow Mule if she's around, really the best there is!). I give this place four & a half stars simply for the BAR!! These ladies rock! Tiffany, Gne, Cat and I've really enjoy their recent addition Nanci. She has fun personality that is always very welcoming. I've been coming here since they opened and food has gotten a lot better! This place is a joke. A group of our friends were getting together and we made a reservation for 12 people. Because it was a large group, my wife even called twice to confirm the reservation. When we arrived, on time mind you, we were told they had "cancelled all of their reservations." Seriously? - They "cancelled all of their reservations!" What business owner in their right mind would do that? In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, they "know how to take a reservation, they just don't know how to hold the reservation." We attempted to talk to the manager, but the staff said "he was too busy in the kitchen." My wife even called the next day, but got voice mail. Needless to say, no one called her back. I would note that we have eaten here on two occasions in the past, but the food is mediocre and I never felt compelled to write about it. This place does have a nice ambiance with the outdoor seating by the fountain. However, ambiance won't keep a business going. With its terrible business practices and overpriced food, I imagine this restaurant is doomed. I do know that we will never go back. read more

I highly recommend 510 Bistro. This is my favorite restaurant, we've been coming here since they opened-3 years now, mainly for dinners. We are not from Merced, our drive takes about 45-60 minutes, the food is that good. Everything is made fresh, the meat is not pre-seasoned, marinated or packaged, it's hand cut. The French onion & lobster bisque soups are favorites, fresh crisp salad, we've enjoyed all of our menu choices, mine is double lobster, others like surf 'n' turf. No matter what's for dinner, save room for their desserts...fabulous. I used to think Tiramisu at Filomena Ristorante in Georgetown, DC, was ultimate but Chef Rob's is better. Came in here for a friends birthday it was a group of 8 of us, I ordered the grilled shrimp linguini and pesto, when my dish came out I noticed oil on the side I figured it was just a little from the pesto but then I stuck my fork in and noticed the entire dish had been drenched in oil, it honestly looked like a soup of oil with pasta and shrimp it was disgusting, I have never sent a dish back until last night, the server even agreed with us that the oil was over whelming. She took the dish back and and apologized, i reordered a salmon thinking i would get some kind of compensation for the inconvenience. When our checks came in I was surprised to find that we were not only charged for the salmon but we were charged extra for it. Three others at our table also ordered the salmon dish so we compared. So not only did they mess up the pesto dish, we got stuck with a higher bill which everyone was surprised by and I came home with an upset stomach and was puking about 2 hours later. Our server was great and apologized for the oil and pasta soup. Was on top of our drinks and orders so she deserves 4 stars. As for the restaurant our table cloth had white stains (it is black) and crumbs all over it and two of our guest didnt have silverware come out until about five minutes after our dishes came out. Quality of food was not good, we would have much rather have stayed home and saved ourselves $45. read more

This place has great food in a great atmosphere, but the service could be a little more attentive. When I went with my parents we were looking for a nice restaurant to enjoy later at night but not a bar-and this place fit the requirements excellently! The server sat us quickly but it took a couple minutes for our waitress to come and get our drink orders, but when she did she was very nice, presentable, and courteous. There was quite a length of time between getting our drinks and having our dinner order taken, which was inconvenient but did not take away from the quality of the food-believe that! When our meals came to the table they looked very delicious and lived up to their looks. I ordered the filet mignon wrapped in bacon and the steak was extremely tender and cooked perfectly with the bacon complimenting the beef with its porky goodness. After our food was out our waitress was much more attentive and did offer us dessert after realizing how clean our plates were. Great place. very friendly atmosphere and the owners genuinely care to talk to people and remember faces. every time I've gone in they've remembered me, said hello, told me what was new and are more than willing to make any reasonable accommodation. They're doing great things for craft beer in Merced and have regular "craft beer" nights where they showcase a brewery. The food is great and reasonably priced. The only plate that I was underwhelmed with was a cheese plate and thought that, for the price, the cheese selection should have been a little better. but really I'm just searching for something to gripe about with that. read more

2 Stars. Food was FANTASTIC. Horrible customer service. We waited a while for our food and then the waiter came up to us saying what we had ordered was unavailable, so we had to re-order -__-. Prices were being discussed out loud by employees. Annoyingly and very unprofessional. He had finished out appetizers and they took 30 minutes to pick up our plates. First time there, what a great culinary experience, awesome food for Merced and really comparable to some big city places we've been to! My wife and I were pleasantly surprised! Awesome wine selection, my wife had the house Merlot and loved it, from a local valley winery (Canyon Road). Had two appetizers, the spicy crab won-tons and fried pickles. The spicy crab won-tons were beyond spectacular! the fried pickles were not sliced like chips but actually spears, nice batter and served with a blue cheese dip also awesome and a great departure from the typical fried pickle chips one would expect. I had the mushroom bisque, delicious. For the entree, I had the Bistro Mac, simply delicious, I could have had a little more ham, but I loved it! My wife had the red curry noodles with shrimp, perfectly spicy, she loved it. For dessert we shared the cappuccino creme brulee, it was completely on par with the entire experience. Our server was awesome (don't remember her name) but she was great and friendly. Course delivery was perfectly timed, never felt rushed or like we waited too long for any of our food. Nice to see Merced blessed with this kind of place! If you haven't been you need to go and if you've been you need to go again and again! We are going to make this place one of our "go to' restaurants whenever we are in Merced. Had a chance to speak with one guy, either the manager/owner/chef? Nice-streamlined decor, professional looking staff, and beautiful setting on the downtown courtyard. Far too cold-we needed coats throughout dinner. Servers were not well trained. Our soup ended up at another table, our appetizer order was forgotten, then when we amended the order and reaffirmed that we wanted our main dish AFTER our appetizer, they both showed up at the same time. The chicken skewer was virtually tasteless with a watered down dipping sauce. Salmon and rice were okay, but the vegetable was undercooked and under seasoned. There was no decaffeinated coffee available. Cheesecake was average. As we left, we noted the skewer that the waitress dropped was still in the middle of the floor....quite a hazard if someone were to step on it. I was invited by a friend as a pre Christmas dinner, I had never been here previous to this . The gal that attended us was polite . The first thing I ordered was a coffee. I noticed there wasn't any real sugar packets at the table so she kindly brought me some from the back that was in a container with a spoon to pour to my liking . My coffee was overflowed making it near impossible to add any creamer but nonetheless I went to taste my coffee when gasp; it was salty as hell! She had accidentally brought me salt instead of sugar . Not even five minutes in and disappointment number one started . Next, I really wanted their buffalo cheese ravioli but they had no raviolis, great #2 . I resorted to ordering a crab and shrimp pasta that was very bland and unappealing , #3. My friend order a fillet mignon and seemed to have enjoyed it . After s long day I just wanted a decent meal from what I thought was a good place . I had the absolute worst experience for lunch today going here. My boyfriend and I went in and ordered a shrimp cocktail for appetizer. When we got it our shrimp was still raw and gray not cooked at all. I wasn't sure if that's how they serviced it there (even though I have had it at many places and they have always been cooked) so I asked the waiter if he could ask the cook to grill it a bit. When he went up there I heard her say "why" and rolled her eyes. That really made me disappointed and showed how rude she was. Just moments later someone else ordered one and their shrimp was cooked, it looked nothing like ours, I was so confused why we got it like that. Then this older couple sitting a couple chairs down ordered a hamburger, when the cook started making their food I heard her very loudly say "Do they want salt on there fries? Because I'm not going to make new ones if they don't." I was in shock that she would speak like that. (Lucky they did want salt on their fries) Finally when we got our meal my boyfriends salmon looked great from the top but when he flipped it over it was black! She practically burnt half of it off and so he had to pick it all off to only eat what was cooked properly. We showed the waiter about it and all he said was sorry and walked away. I just about had enough but there is more! When we get our bill and pay the waiter says "oh I didn't even ask, you guys want this separated" That comment was so racial to me. My boyfriend is African American and I am Hispanic, can we not be a couple? I have not ever had such a bad experience before and I'm still extremely mad that we got treated like this. So I have been coming here for a while and the on Valentines day I decided to stop in and all of a sudden I got treated a little differently when your not in a suit at this place they literally treat you as a vagrant I walk up looking to take a table like I always do then the staff for 15 minutes doesn't even acknowledge I am there when they do they stick me in a table outside by the fountain alone not inside with the people they deem important which apparently with a change of clothes is not me so anywho we press on oh yes it gets worse so 15 minutes of sitting outside by myself the server comes out and informs me they have a special menu I said ok then she proceeds to tell me the salad is really good I said thanks what is the steak like she goes not as good as the salad the cheapest thing on the menu lol so I tell her I guess you want me to order the salad which I do 30 minutes later no food I walk in and say I would just like to leave I will pay for the salad and pull out my cash and she looks at me and says charging you for something you didn't get is immoral then the whole but since you thought treating me bad because you thought I was homeless shaming came up then it was well I didn't know who you were if I had, this place used to be cool but if you aren't going to serve people equally then at least put the sign up and be honest about it so I come in there in a suit I get a table but dressed in jeans I am treated like scum this place isn't right read more

2 stars is generous and is mainly for the location and the fact that our server tried his hardest with what little he had to work with. As far as everything else, I am at a loss as to how this place is still in business and how it has managed to bomb what should be a great local go-to spot. We had a party of 6 and the food came out staggered in 5 minute or so gaps. I will excuse this as there appeared to be only one server working for the entire restaurant and he was trying his best. The flavor of the food is ok but overly salty, or in the case of anything you order with Sriracha it has way too much of that also. I ordered my flank steak medium and it came out raw...not even rare RAW. We were apparently given the wrong children menu so what my kids ordered is not what they got. My husbands chicken was dry and over cooked and you couldn't taste anything through the salt. Nobody ended up finishing their meal. Finally, we were offered one free dessert for my daughter who got the wrong meal and then had to wait for her new one to come so we decided to also order coffee for ourselves to try to salvage the evening...unfortunately we also ordered cream which came out the consistency and smell of buttermilk. We tried this restaurant once when it first opened and were not impressed enough to rush back until now. After this experience it's safe to say a future visit isn't looking likely unless they make some serious management and training adjustments. read more

The only reason I give this "restaurant" one star is because you can't give 0 stars. The food was horrible, over cooked steaks, over cooked sashimi, sticky potatoes that had WAY too much seasoning. The music was LOUD beyond belief! To top of the evening, I went to use the restroom and while I was in there a hostess/waitress was also in there and after she left the stall she walked straight out WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband I am decided to go to Five Ten Bistro and the After 5 Sidebar last night. We had been to the bar once before shortly after they opened, so we thought to try the dinner. The feeling of the place is nice, not too bright, pretty fixtures, beautiful concrete floors, and quality furniture. We were seated WAY in the back corner, which was fine with us, until the service began. Unfortunately there was nothing redeeming about the service. The waitress was very nice and well dressed, but not trained AT ALL. Nothing we had was right. Beer was wrong, we had to remind the waitress about everything, we never got our appetizer after asking about 4 times, and waited about an hour for our steaks. My husband did get a filet mignon instead of the flat iron steak (which in the end wasn't a bad thing) but it was still not what he ordered. The group at the table next to us almost left before their tab came because they had to go to a show and they just couldn't get their bill. The poor watiress was constantly making excuses for her kitchen and bar staff and was clearly flustered. So with all of that...when we did get our food, it was amazing. Very tasty, well cooked, and warm. The house wine was very good too. On the bar side...I would love to say it is nice...but just can't. WAY too bright. Not enough seating, no pictures on the wall, and I truly almost fell over on the crazy wobbly bar stools. The manager was not receptive to my suggestion of lowering the lights. The first time I was there, I said the same thing, with the same kind of response. We saw about 20 people in a short period of time come in, look around for somewhere to sit, and walk out. The white couches, nice bar materials of concrete, lighting,is classy, but the couches in the back are facing each other, not making it comfortale to sit there unless you are with a huge group. It is really too bad, because the restaurant brought alot of people in from that entrance. There was LOTS of open wasted space. We really need nice places to go in Merced, so I truely hope the owner reads these reviews. I am a forgiving patron and want to go back. Please get it together. read more

I ordered a burger that cost 20 bucks. Ordered it medium well. It came burnt. The bottom was rock solid and the whole thing tasted like shit. My wife ordered penne pasta and it tasted like shit. A HAPPY ACCIDENT! My husband and I stopped for dinner on our way to Yosemite. We were originally looking for a pizza place, but it had just closed for the night. Luckily, we saw this place. The service was great and the food was even better. I had the bacon-wrapped filet mignon, and he had a burger. Not just any burger...it had fried pickles and an egg on top. Went in for a grilled cheese sandwich with my friends and they tried to charge us 12 dollars for a grilled cheese sandwich when we had previously been to this location and they charged us 6 dollars for the grilled cheese sandwich which is still an outrageous price for a grilled cheese. When I asked to speak to the manager the waitress said that the manager had stepped out and wouldn't be able to speak to us for at least 30 minutes which meant that all of a sudden she was the "manager" so we told her that we wanted to speak to the owner. When I Spoke to the owner of this location and he was extremely rude not wanting to reduce the price to what we usually pay for the grilled cheese and told us if we couldn't afford to eat there then we should go somewhere else ! That was very unprofessional and In fact I will never eat or recommend this location to anyone else ever again. If I was able to put zero stars I would, because I had never been disrespected like this every before. I would have had no problem paying the 12 dollars for the grilled cheese if that was the price it had on the menu and if I had not paid 6 dollars for it before. The fact that I went in and recommended this location to my friends and went through this situation is truly embarrassing to me and disappointing because I was the one that told them about the location being good but now after this situation NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO TO THIS LOCATION AGAIN OR RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE ! read more

Went here for Valentine's day with my husband. We had plans to catch a movie right after dinner so we opted to share their Filet mignon and lobster entree along with a bowl of lobster bisque and some fried pickles as an appetizer. We each had two glasses of wine and ordered the heath bar brownie sunday which the waitress said had ice cream but we didn't want to make a fuss, so that was sort of disappointing. Overall the food was good, I wished the beer battered fried pickles had been pickle chips instead of spears (personal preference) and if they would have included an additional or alternative dipping sauce rather than blue cheese (my husband hates cheese of any kind) it would have been perfect. They had a live band playing romantic music outside which was a nice touch. The price of the entree was rather high for the serving size but everything tasted great and we left satisfied.
