Stopped in for an impromptu lunch with wife and hound dog. Sat out on patio, very nice. Waitress very knowledge with her suggestions, suggested a great Mexican style lager. Split a Caesar salad, it was nice, alright. Now, the surprise and highlight of my meal... A steak sandwich, with a very nice aioli, greens, sauteed red peppers. They accommodated my request to leave steak as a whole piece, not sliced. All I can say is... Heaven!!! This has to be the best steak sandwich I have ever had! Bravo to the chef... Nice blending of flavors! Too bad I had to share it! Not sure about dessert, but what the heck, everything great so far! A bread pudding that was delicious, a close, close, second to my favorite. Service was impeccable, accommodating, & friendly. This was my first time here, I have been blessed to have managed some of the nation's top restaurants, currently managing a top eatery here in Merced, so I know my food. Very tasty Mahi Mahi burger with Aioli sauce and mixed greens. Messy enough to eat with a fork. My date offered a bite of the 510 Penne dish, that was equally tasty. I have had plenty of good experiences here, date night, girls nights or also invite only events. I've never been disappointed. Staff always seems friendly and efficient. I has just seen a movie in downtown Merced and had not tried Five Ten Bistro. The appearance and layout made it feel modern and hip, so I decided to give it a try. What else could I lose? We were quickly seated myself and a friend for dinner and had our menus within ten minutes. Later we were wondering what would be taking so long of our food. I did have the chef's special, Mahi Mahi and it came out excellent. The big issue we had was with customer service and being courteous. We had waited well over an hour for our food and in the process for the wait was not told about our plate being "dropped" and not mentioned to us when it did drop. Total bummer, I would visit again. Not anytime soon until customer service improves vastly. read more

What a great dinner spot in Merced that's not the standard "old guard" menu. I ordered the stroganoff with the French onion as a starter and it was perfect. The food was so so, the service was nice but slow. We ordered the tomato soup...which can only be described as marinara sauce. It should be taken off the menu. The water had a funny taste, maybe cucumber?? The chicken on the salad had the pre-made grill marks on it and tasted bland and dry. We are from out of town and wanted to check out downtown Merced & came upon 510 Bistro this evening. We walked up and it looked like a really cool scene with live music and outdoor seating, however I can't comment on anything else because we were completely ignored while seated at the bar for at least 10 minutes with 4-5 servers going in and out. Absolutely zero acknowledgement... Also, one of the bartenders arriving for her shift put her long hair up in a bun in front of guests. Coming from the service industry, that should really be done in the back where you don't risk getting hair into food & drinks. We walked out went to Pinocchio's across the street, received warm welcomes and excellent service - had a drink within 5 minutes. Recommend trying that out instead if you're from out of town and have limited time to explore! read more

I read a review of this place before dining here that read "over priced cafeteria food" I should have listened. It was overpriced. My food was unimpressive. However, my husband's fish was cooked nicely so on that front, there's no complaint. Overall, I'd skip this place. read more

Good food and great service. Where they get you is with the so called "happy hour" specials. Evidently the happy hour price is only when you sit in the bar (something that they fail to inform you of) instead of getting half off the price of appetizers and drinks, we paid full price. Obviously this is important and should be communicated up front. I went there for an event of UC Merced so, it was free. The place is well located, even though is located in Downtown, which is the ghetto. One can sit outside, listen to the fountain that is near and enjoy the beautiful view. They only gave us pasta which it was ok. read more

I have had lunch here twice since the fish episode and both times were very good. The spinach salad was as fresh as it could be. Today I had tomato basil soup which was very flavorful. Surprised them with a party of 12 & they did a nice job. Set a table up quickly & our wait person was lovely. Service was s bit slow but the food was worth the wait. 510 is a great atmosphere whether date night brunch or family night out for dinner. The only place in merced with a gorgeous outdoor patio dining with a beautiful fountain and main street view. They always have new craft breweries on tap and always have friendly faces serving you food or drinks. This is were Merced needs to be!!! read more

What can I say....absolutely the worst service we have ever had and the food was mediocre at best and way to expensive. We sat down with friends for dinner and took a while to get our drinks ordered. Waited a good 20 minutes to order another beer after finishing the first. Actually ordered it from 2 separate servers...beer never came. We asked for bread and butter...it too never came. Asked for separate checks...you guessed it...all on 1 check. I honestly don't understand how this place stays in business! I guess the people in merced are just use to crappy places like this. We will never darken their door again. The bill was almost 60 bucks for a piece of fish and a small bowl of noodles and some diced chicken! Unbelievable! They think they are some upscale restaurant but haven't a clue what a upscale restaurant should be. If you don't mind being ignored and paying top shelf prices for bottom shelf food and service by all means go there. Do yourself a favor and go to Turlock for a nice dinner! read more

Went on a Saturday night for a birthday dinner with my family. Everyone had an amazing meal. My son had the lamb, my husband the beef fillet, my daughter the seared ahi and I had the chicken marsala. Each dish was cooked to perfection. Not over cooked as we have experienced at other restaurants in town. The atmosphere is casual but slightly upscale. Very comfortable and the service was excellent. I absolutely love this place. It has a very great setting and location. Very romantic at night and relaxing. The food was excellent and the service was even better. Have eaten here a couple times was mediocre at best gave it one last try we walked in waitress wanted to be very clear that we can sit but she is not sure when she will be able to get to us. She had absolutely zero people skills. Sounded like she wanted us to leave the second we walked in. We drove from Clovis to meet some friends for dinner (hour drive) on advice of our friends. We arrived at 5 pm on Saturday and the place was pretty much empty. This should have been a sign. Food was so so. Service was wicked SLOW! It took them 45 minutes to get me a beer in a place that was almost empty. The worst part was the pricing was not cheap. $180.00 not including tip for four people and one did not have any drinks. Two of us had pasta. I won't be back. read more

Prices have went up significantly over the last few months. What used to cost $10-$11 is now $15-17. All 3 of us had pasta dishes and they were extremely oily. Use to be one of our favorite places to eat but unfortunately their service and food has gone down hill lately. Our last two visits were not good at all. My wife and I decided to enjoy a night out and decided to go to one of our usual spots, The Five Ten Bistro. As soon as we sat down the first thing we noticed was the table cloths were dirty. I would have asked for a different table however when I scouted one out most appeared unkept. We sucked it up and dealt with it. After ordering it took an usually long time just to get our appetizer which was a simple plate of calamari. After an even longer wait our dinner finally arrived and it was cold and looked as if had been prepared with little care. There was no respect for the food as some in the industry would say. No garnish or presentation. The restaurant only had three other tables to tend to do it wasn't a busy night. On top of the wait and food ,the waitress who waited on us seemed uninterested or as if she did not want to be there. She didn't smile or check in on us between appetizer and meal and we battled the most stubborn pack of flies. We left Unsatisfied and disappointed. A couple weeks later we decided that maybe it was just an off day at the bistro and we should give it another chance. So we decided to head there for Sunday brunch. We decided to sit outside ,which at no fault of the restaurants, was a bad decision. The overpowering smell of urine which I can only assume was produced by the small assembled group of homeless that were wandering outside the gate made it a bit unpleasant. Once again Our waitress seemed uninterested and almost bothered by taking our order. The food was delivered in a reasonable time however once again it looked like someone just threw it on a plate. As we were leaving my wife and I decided to use the restroom and the bathroom was filled with an overpowering smell of urine along with a very annoying blinking light. When my wife came out of the woman's room she complained of the same thing. I'd like to add that while I waited for my wife not one person smiled or acknowledged me. If you look at my profile you'll notice I have never made a comment or complained. I understand that regular people run these businesses and can have off days. I also understand that as a customer that is paying top dollar for a meal that is prepared as if I could have made it at home in 10 minutes I expect quality service. My suggestions and advise to the bistro is hire a manager that runs daily quality checks on the business every day(checks table clothes, faulty lights, pungent odors, assures staff is pleasant, etc.) I don't think I'd give up on the five ten because at once they did provide really good food and an enjoyable environment. I'm hoping they return to their old ways and get back to being one of Merced's best spots. read more
