Overall it's not a bad experience, I would go back for pasta dishes only.

I had the coconut shrimp which is always on my radar to try and they didn't disappoint. I tried the Torino white sauce pizza with chicken minus the bacon (i don't eat pork) and added bbq sauce and pineapple because I read it on one of the yelp reviews and it sounded good, it was. I was very pleased. It's definitely worth the short trip from Modesto to try it out. Pro tip: there is parking behind the building which will be much easier to find parking.

Our server, Soichi, was attentive and delightful. Alyssa, the Food & Beverage Supervisor, was extremely helpful with food recommendations and seating accommodations. Our family raved about the Rainbird Club, while my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the Millionaire BLT--what a flavorful experience! We also appreciated Rainbird's commitment to seasonal ingredients and local farms. Can jack-up a breadstick??? The breadsticks were BLONDE, FLAVORLESS, DRY, BRICKS. My husband ordered the seafood pasta. What a joke. It had small marble sized scallops and a few shrimps; but the kicker was the MUSHY OVERCOOKED broccoli. He couldn't eat it either and he abandoned the whole eating activity. He didn't even open the soup. I just threw everything into the trash; there was no saving that meal. This question is for general management Marci Anaya. Do you monitor what's happening in the kitchen? Do you see the food before it's packaged and sent out to the consumer? Do you care if we actually get our money's worth? Do you really understand how much pasta, shrimp, veggies, and soup with breadsticks I could have actually bought with $75.00??? So incredibly disappointed. I made a reservation over two months in advance for a party of 12 the day of graduation, we showed up for our reservation and at the check in the host actually said they gave our table away. They proceeded to ask if we wouldn't mind sitting at tall tables, I said no I wanted normal tables as I made the reservation months prior, they acted like I should just be happy with their leftovers. They decided to put tables together for us which were two long tables, one shorter than the other, and one round table and a bunch of foldable chairs. Needless to say we had to ask for shade on half of our table. To make the situation better they decided to offer us the banquet room we gladly excepted but when we were seated we were informed that the menu was only the dinner menu when it wasn't even afternoon yet and no one had mentioned this to me when the reservation was made or confirmed. Once we ordered it took over an hour just to get our soup, which they messed up on, and then it took an additional hour to get our entrées. to top it off four of the 12 of us had inedible food. The food was hard pasta, burned fish, undercooked chicken, and more sauce then solid food. I made this reservation under recommendations of many local friends and I was excited to try this restaurant but I feel that they overextended themselves and they took on more than they could handle. I will not be back and I would not suggest anyone make a reservation for graduation or any other large event in Merced. read more

We went for Easter brunch. It was a disaster! Ive had better breakfast at a taco truck. For a lot less! The food was ... Gross! The eggs were dry. The bacon and potatoes were drowning in grease. The gravy for biscuits and gravy tasted like mushroom soup! I ordered eggs benedict and it came out about half hour after i ordered and only after i asked for it and it was cold! There were still diners eating and the wait staff was loading up to- go containers to take home. I went up to get something else and almost everything was gone! I took my check up to pay and the girl at the bar was stuffing her face with dessert. I can't say i enjoyed all of them talking about how they got drunk last night or the cursing coming out of their mouth. I am, by no means, a prude but when I'm paying 22.00 for my breakfast i expect it to come with a little more class. It was pretty disappointing! We've lived in Southern California for over 20 years, the Foodie Capital of the World, where chefs can cater to any health restrictions and whip up flavorful meals. In Merced, we met a chef who can hold his own with any of them besides being personable, humble and gracious: Darren Sealaw of 510 Bistro! One of my favorites is the lamb chop entree which is moist and tender, always done to the precise degree I request (rare, medium rare). Other favorites include the chicken marsala and lamb sliders...the latter is served in home-made curry which is mild but with a subtle kick, making this appetizer my addiction! Finally, the poached salmon is always flavorful, moist and tender--an entree I frequently order. This was an absolutely incredible experience. I was overwhelmed by the kindness of the staff, the excellence in the food and their efficiency and hospitality, and definitely in their table set up and management. They hosted our entire group of 50 with ease, patience, kindness, and genuine enthusiasm. Bridgette was an especially beautifully kind hostess, waiting on our tables and creating a safe and fun atmosphere with her great attitude. OMG, this place is excellent! Service was great, food was super hot, tasty, and fresh. The inside was very clean, the ambiance was very nice. We were there around 4ish, not to busy, they have a patio looking into the heart if downtown, also has bar side that was very nice as well.. nice drink menu made with fresh fruits, beer menu had a lot of craft beers, as well as bottles of normal staples. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. I saw a dog on the patio, so I think they are pet friendly on the patio side. Next time I'm gonna have to sit on the patio, it has a beautiful view and feel. read more

Glad I finally made it to the Bistro!! All I can say is I was more than happy with this place. I ordered the Calamari(excellent) and a Bacon Wrapped Filet. I was about as full as I could be when I left and was ready to turn around and go back for round 2 when I got home. The owner came out and chatted with us a bit and even gave us a little tour of the place. Ive never been talked to about the service or the food by the resturant owner at any other resturant before. I came here with a huge group from a ministry trip and they accommodated us with excellence. Not only did they have enough room to sit out 70 person reservation but the service was great! And the food!!! We ordered everything on the menu and it was all delicious. The atmosphere is chill and casual with just the right amount of class. My husband and I decided to try a new restaurant tonight so (in the spirit of contributing to the local economy) we visited Five Ten Bistro in downtown Merced. We were greeted by very friendly and nicely dressed staff. Inside was beautiful- the decor is clean and modern, a nice change from the typical Merced chain restaurant. I have never had a bad meal here. We have had a few hiccups occasionally. But overall great. My kids love the mushroom bisque and my 2 year old loves the salmon. (Blame his grandma). The decor of The Rainbird and it's sister restaurant with to-go options, Native Son, are so special and unique to the historic times reflected on Main Street in Merced. I've heard this Historic Hotel is also stunning, so if you're coming into Merced or driving through the Central Vallley, headed "somewhere", stop by Rainbird or Native Son, and if you need a break from the drive, you can stay at El Capitan!

Chips and guac are good and hard to mess up, the carne asada tacos were very good, the chicken tacos were pretty forgettable. 3.5 stars. Tempted to rate higher but they seem to promise a bit more than they delivered.

Steaks are their specialty at The Grove and are procured from a local cattle rancher. Each piece is specially hand-cut. My husband and I each had the ribeye special and it didn't disappoint.
