I started using Five Stone Tax Advisors to challenge my Austin property taxes (two properties, for many years) for quite a few years now, after a bruising meeting with the Travis County committee that meets with homeowners, a horrible experience. Most years, Five Stone has been successful in getting the appraised value of my home lowered - sometimes by a lot. I think the fee they charge for this is reasonable, and they seem to be efficient and very easy to deal with. Usually, we exchange only 1 or 2 messages per year. They donate a substantial portion of their profit (about a third) to local charities, and they invite their clients to choose from a list. They're a great business; highlky recommend. read more

Useless service that cost us money when we tried to use them. We signed up a few years ago (2024) for the purpose of having them protest our property tax increase. They did zero work, literally zero, as soon as we signed up they literally told us to go find comparable property sales ourselves and sent a bill at the same time because they wouldn't do any work to try and protest for us thus they knew we would not find any savings. The entire reason we used them was to find the comparable and do the protest, which they didn't do either of. They should at least have a policy that if they have zero data they can use to make a case, you should not pay anything to them at all since they won't do anything. I would not use them again, I have contacted state representatives to suggest regulating this industry due to unethical companies like this one. read more

I have been using Five Stone tax advisors to investigate my property taxes for many years. I usually find they are very successful in getting the appraised amount lower than what the city reports. FS also has a scale you can choose from regarding how you get charged. The other really important factor is they have several charities they donate a portion of their proceeds to and you can choose from a list where you like that donation to go. It only benefits the charity, not you personally. Look them up and give them a call they will work hard for you. The more neighbors who sign up the better job than do to get those horrendous taxes lowered. read more

Disappointing Update: After responding to my review that Five Stone had ignored our upfront input and filed an ineffective, routine protest, they assigned someone to actually manage it. Going through the motions, they came back with a revised appraisal that was still considerably above the identical comps we had provided. Then, after too much time had passed, we had to go to Legally Binding Arbitration which still resulted in an appraisal above the initial comps. At the end of the day, we're ending up paying higher taxes than if we had just filed the protest on a timely basis by ourselves . And, while Five Stone waived their nominal service fee, they did not hesitate to charge us for their cut of the tax "savings" that only materialized because we continued to force the issue. We'll probably pay their bill just to be done with them, but as stated before, don't bother with Five Stone. Don't bother. Five Stone ignores your input and just goes through the motions to get their fee. They don't challenge TCAD's outrageous "adjustments" or push back on their appraisal methodology. You are better off just submitting the protest electronically by yourself to get the same results, or use a more cost effective provider like Ownwell. read more
