Very disappointing. I used to always come to this place and I mean always but after what happened yesterday (Feb 20th 2026 at exactly 3:02 pm) I won't be going back. Y'all ever seen those videos about gas stations not giving you your full change hoping you wouldn't notice and then they end up making hundreds of extra dollars every week or maybe even every day. It happened yesterday. My change was $13.02 (pre paid cash) and when I went in the lady just seemed like she hated life. She didn't look or talk to me much at all. She gave me $13 then started talking to the person she was on call with and closed the register, I stood there looking at her and said "could I have the rest of my change?" She then proceeded to not look at me, re open the register and give me my 2 cents obviously unhappy. You're not a charity you're a gas station. Give me my change. This place is a complete rip off. They have now started advertising the cash price for gas, and of course, the word "cash" is in very small lettering. As you fly by on Pacheco, you don't see that small word, so all you have memorized in your head is the cheap price of gas. When you finally get to the pump to pay, you see the $0.45 charge for using your debit card. Most people don't carry cash, or at least enough cash on their person to pay for a full tank. So you feel obligated to pay the debit card fee. Now, normally gas stations will honor the cash price when you pay with the debit card because you are paying the $0.45 fee. Well, NOT 5 Star Gas!! They charge you a more expensive gas price PLUS the $0.45 debit card fee!! Are you kidding me? Gas Cash price $2.99 Gas Debit card price $3.07 Debit card fee $0.45 What a complete joke! I will never go here again. I can go 100 yards down the street and pay the slightly more expensive gas price ($3.07), without the debit card fee. read more

Every time I get gas, I always log it in. I've been doing that ever since I got my driver's license. I'll write the location, date, mileage, price of gas, and MPG. It was a habit I picked up from my dad. Over those years, I've discovered the myths of whether another type of gas offers better MPG over another fuel station. The answer is.., YES it does. I used to get my gas at the Five Star gasoline station because they usually have one of the cheapest prices in my work area. After doing my log book and getting my fuel at numerous other stations.., it was not a coincidence that I had a lower MPG whenever I got my gas here. I would average about 29 MPG with my Infiniti G20; but whenever I got my fuel at Five Star Gas, my MPG was always significantly lower, as I averaged about 27 MPG. There's always a myth on whether a questionable independent fuel station will water down their gas or offer poor performance gasoline, but my log book reinforces that theory. Whenever I told my friends about this, they always initially question me; but whenever they see my gas log book, they always trust me now. This is the main reason why I never get my gas here anymore. Also, they charge differently for their gasoline if you decide to pay by cash or credit. If you decide to purchase your gas with cash or a debit card, it will be cheaper per gallon. Since I always purchase my gas with my credit cards, this just reinforces me to never get my fuel here ever again. read more

Five Star Gas has been here for decades but probably not under the same name. it's a small station with room for 8 fueling cars or a truck or 2 and 2-3 cars. it's so small only small trucks can fit in here. detached cabs can make it here but big rigs can't. i essentially stopped coming here since the maneuving area is so small. gas drips; -large convenience store with lots of goodies -gas higher .10 then golden gate down the road -diesel cheaper .08 then other diesel stations around. -relatively busy.. read more

The gas prices here are the cheapest in the town. It's a family owned business. Pumps 6-8 you have to go inside to pay for gas is the downside. Other than that it is a great store. read more

I see the bad reviews but i beg to differ..The gas is inexpensive, the little store has fair prices and any last minute thing you may have forgotten at the store.. And then just today I purchased gas and while it was pumping went inside to buy some drinks and so forth. I paid the owner, went outside finished pumping gas and as i was about to drive away he came running out because I had given him an extra dollar by mistake.. very very cool.. read more

Air does not work. Guy inside says the only way it works is if you put money into it. Air is free...fix it for goodness sake!

I normally use this gas station when I am out and about in Martinez, because they have reasonable prices. However, I have noticed within the last 3 months or so, that when I go in to pay for my gas, the man behind the counter does not acknowledge women, except to look at what they have in between their rib cage and their shirt. Not just me, but ALL of the women that I see in line ahead of me. He certainly can carry on a conversation with another gentleman, and does, at his leisure. I am unaware of this man's name, but he is there during the day shift. Today, when my husband went in to pay for his gallon of gas, he had four dollar bills and twenty four pennies. The man behind the counter told my husband that he wouldn't accept pennies, and that he didn't have to accept pennies. My husband explained to him that a penny is still considered US. currency, and if the man didn't want to accept the pennies, then he would take his business elsewhere. The man cursed at him, and threw the four dollars he had already taken from him right back at him. When I worked in a gas station, we were told by our owners, that we were to take whatever money the customer needed to pay with, counterfeit aside. My husband worked at a completely different gas station, but they abode by the same policies. I am a delivery driver, for a pizza place. When I deliver someone their order, I certainly don't tell them that they can't pay me in change. If I did, I probably wouldn't make half the money I do in tips! I live by the old saying, "See a penny, pick it up, all day long, you'll have good luck". We have already called the BBB. We have informed our family & friends, and all of our coworkers. I understand the price of gas is high, but the gas station at the corner of Pacheco Blvd & Shell Ave is only a penny or two different. read more

Just want to let everyone know that if you use a debit card five star gas charges credit prices . I talked to the owner and he was rude and said he didn't care . I have been a faithful five star gas customer for a decade. I will no longer use five star gas because I will not be ripped off and neither should you read more

DONT USE THE CARD SERVICE OUTSIDE! A friend's card was used yesterday and they were getting ripped off within MINUTES!! The bank situation for her has been resolved but the info went electronically to a user who started buying things in another country! read more

I recently filled my tank here (20 gallons) being drawn in by the posted $3.59/gal price for regular. When I got home at looked at my receipt, I was charged $3.659 . . .guess the posted price is for cash or debit. I sure didn't notice that on the signage. Won't go here again. read more

i went to this gas station today. it was on the route to where i was going. i was almost out of gas and put together $2.46. i walked in and asked the man for $2.46 on pump number 2 please. i was appalled when the guy at the counter told me he would not take my pennies. this made me very angry and i held up the line of customers to further my discussion with him. he continued to tell me no one would take as many pennies as i had (56 total). he told me i had to have them in a roll. had i of known i would have put them in a roll for him. i had no other money and was very upset. he said he would take the silver and not the pennies. i told him id put the pennies in piles of 5 to make it easier. i made it clear i wasnt leaving until he took my money. he was still very angry and degrading while talking to me. i set up all of my change to make it easy for him to count. he finally agrees to take my money but i must wait until he helps every one else. i thought "fair enough". ive never felt so degraded by someone. i know this guy has karma coming for him. the very last guy in line handed the man at the counter a $10 and said "give her her money back and put $5 on her tank." i said "no, no.." but the man insisted. i eventually accepted the kind mans money and broke down in tears. i am forever grateful for this man. i would not have made it to another gas station. i apologized to him, thanked him and gave him a hug. he told me to take care of myself. i will never forget this day. read more
