Recently, I took my quilt in for cleaning. A day or two after I took my quilt in, I received a promotional text offering a significant discount on quilt services if a code was mentioned. When I went in to pick up the quilt, I mentioned the code and asked Five Star to honor the discount or, since I had pre-paid, provide the discount on future services. Employee Sequoia would not consider it. I expressed my disappointment but she seemed uninterested. I appreciate the quality of dry cleaning but am surprised and disappointed by Five Star Cleaners lack of customer service. read more

This is my 2nd review since I couldn't edit the first one. So, I didn't put the quilt/bedspread back on my bed for a few days after I picked it up -- put it in the closet on the hanger the cleaners had put it on. When I put it on the bed, it, too had shrunk by about 8" in both directions -- too short now to cover the blankets underneath it, when before it came just a couple of inches above the floor. Plus, but bottom was mangled and stuffing was coming out -- which they surely must've known/seen but didn't bother to tell me when I picked up up. My bed set is ruined -- don't ever, ever bring bedding to this place if you care about it. An now they are closed earlier today and all day tomorrow so I can't even talk to anyone since they don't have email. Bad, bad, bad if zero stars were an option I'd choose that. read more

I've been bringing my down comforters here for years with dependable and quality results. Thank goodness they only need to be cleaned several times a year, it does get pretty spendy. I haven't brought any clothing to this location, but their work with linens and household garments has been very helpful. Their prices are clearly marked, turnaround is quick, and it's pretty centrally located with good parking. Keep an eye out for seasonal specials from time to time, it definitely helps with household budgets. read more

GREAT SERVICE! These people go above and beyond, and at a great price! I've been using them for a while for dry cleaning as well as have gotten some couch cushions cleaned here but I have to leave a review after my most recent experience... I dropped a suit off here on Wednesday to be cleaned and pressed and picked up on Saturday... well I forgot to pick it up Saturday and have a wedding to go to Sunday... oops! Not open on Saturdays. This business took our order and said we could pick up Saturday as we needed the garment on Sunday. When we arrived Saturday to pick up, they were closed. Not only do we not have our garment, but our flight leaves town on Sunday and now we have to leave the clothes in Portland. Unacceptable to give a verbal confirmation and have open hours posted online and not be open. Shame on you One Star Cleaners. read more

Have used them a few times in the past and advance payments were always a perk and you'd get a slight discount. Just walked in to drop my clothes off to see an "Advanced Payment Required" sign. This review is long overdue. I took a lightweight down comforter here for cleaning. When I arrived to picked it up, the king size comforter was the size of a dog bed. Someone apologized. I asked how could something like this happen? The response was that an employee put the comforter in the WASHING MACHINE. Well, really, I could have done that at home for free. But I read the care tag, which was attached, and it clearly stated DRY CLEAN ONLY, so I took it to the dry cleaners. I was offered compensation for the item, which I did receive. But ultimately I was unable to replace the item, because the company no longer made it and I was unable to find an alternative item in the same weight. I had to buy something else that I really did not want. I am out a perfectly good comforter, that should have lasted years more, because someone did not read a care tag. read more

Five Star was the 4th dry cleaners that I hit up and they were so kind and helpful. They told me to come on down and they pressed it right there while I waited. Dry clean / laundry / pressing is inconsistent, pickup/delivery is inconsistent, customer service is subpar (very disorganized, confused, unprofessional). We have about a dozen people at our business who use the pickup/delivery service, all located within the same office. Several people will have items picked up on the same day, but only some of the items will be brought back. Recently, one of my co-worked waited over two weeks for her garments to be returned (after called twice and being given different excuses they finally delivered her items... no apology, no discount). Then it happened again, all the other people got their garments back today, but she didn't. She called, they have no idea where her stuff is at or why it wasn't returned. They didn't even have a record of her name/address in the system... um, what???? This same person has also had to call 3 times to give them her credit card info. Then today, she was told that they don't have her credit card on file and they have no idea why not (scary!) Another employee had 2 small ladies blazers + 1 mini dress cleaned for $40.00 and they didn't press the dress. She was charges for pressing, but the dress was wrinkled and the hemline was turned upwards in one area, very obviously not pressed (she showed us how bad it was). I have dropped garments off to be cleaned and not had any problem, although I feel they are extremely overpriced for the mediocre service. But from reading the other Yelp reviews from 2013-2014 it's obvious there is a pattern of problems. read more

They are friendly and do a good job. 10% off if you pre-pay and you can put a card on file (sometimes it's the little things that make things easier) I like that they are a local business and I see the same people working there. I had just picked up a dress that I was supposed to wear the next day from another alterations place and the seam was totally crooked, I hadn't noticed it until I got it home about an hour before this shop closed. I was greeted by a friendly young lady and explained my situation. They were so nice! Fixed the mistakes within a half an hour and gave me a great price! READ ALL THE REVIEWS! DO NOT BRING YOUR CLOTHES HERE! My most sentimental shirt that was given to me was damaged. Only worn a few times it was returned to me with a huge rip 3 inches. When it was evaluated multiple times by his Step Daughter and myself at the front. Then inspected again in the back of house to before being delivered to the ware house for cleaning. They had the shirt for 2 days before communication was given to me about it being ripped and then tried to say it was my fault and that it was given this way. So Michael (the owner) is basically saying that I'm incapable, his step daughter is incapable and his employee is back of house incapable of evaluating a shirt for a 3 inch rip. He then had the audacity to tell me that it the shirt can be ripped by an old oil stain which was not there before. It looked completely self induced stain to cover up the rip. He also said it could occur from over sweating (which I don't sweat) because I have highly sensitive skin, and he said it could happen from body deodorant which I have never worn before in my life because genetically I don't get body odor. All his excuses he tried to claim were completely false!!! Before writing this review I read the others and the experience I've received with Michael the Owner who does take responsibility for his actions for damaging products, I realized others had the same experience as well. read more

They lost several items brought in for wash/pressing and refused to take responsibility for it or offer any type of accommodation. Complained that I kept bringing in too many sheets and arbitrarily raised prices with no notice. Simply terrible business practices. read more

While the staff is friendly, my frustration is that they rarely disclose the stains or the rips in the material when they send it home with you and charge you. The first time I used their services, they magically made make-up disappear off shirt collars. Impressive! I don't have a lot to report on this Cleaner, other than they have awesome, friendly service, get our shirts turned around within a couple days and offer a discount if you pay up front. Stellar! I highly recommend them if those cute ladies at the club get make-up on your nice dress shirts, and you don't want to risk messing it up yourself. Go to the pro's! read more

2 1/2 stars. I had to explain the job that I wanted to be done for about 3-4 times before the staff finally comprehended but I mean, come on...does it really have to take that long? I got my garments back and they were ok but the service was not superb. They also said that my clothes would be ready to be picked up at a certain time and yet, they weren't ready when I came an hour after it was scheduled for pick up! I had to come back the next day instead. Good thing I wasn't planning on using any of the clothes that I had them clean or else it would have been completely unacceptable. I have been coming here for years and they have always done an amazing job but, recently, I took a cloth tablecloth and napkins to them that had been stored for quite some time. They had been through some good dinner parties and were pretty harsh looking. They did an absolutely stellar job! They almost look brand new. My cat was accidentally shut in the room with the futon overnight. Therefore.. I had to have cat pee removed from a futon cover. People at Five Star were friendly and my futon cover was ready when they said it would be. It looks clean. But...IT SMELLS HORRIBLE. Not like cat pee, but like that awful sickly sweet masking fragrance you sometimes smell in thrift stores. Except stronger. Think "zombie-strength air freshener." And with thrift stores, you get something for a couple of bucks and then take it home and wash it. You don't pay $29 for something to get clean and then get a headache and nausea from being in the same room with it. I've had items dry cleaned before at many places and they haven't ever come back smelling like that. read more

This place is great! I received a Pendleton blanket as a wedding present and recently discovered my dog had been sneakily pulling it into her bed or burrowing into it while we were at work. Which is fine, unless she's a stinky, muddy mess! The woman at the counter was extremely friendly and helpful. I had a Groupon but had forgotten my phone, and they honored the Groupon and had it ready within 48 hours. No shrinkage, no discoloration, looked good as new. I will definitely be returning here. I've been here a few times for alterations. The alterations were fine, and thus I opted to use them again. However, this last time I brought items in, I ran into a bit of trouble. This time, I dropped off three pieces for small patches / mending. I went over each piece with an employee of the store to review the required tailoring. The following day, I got a call from the store telling me that I would need to clean the clothing before they could work on my pieces. That's fine: I appreciate that they are bound by codes and laws. However, this required another trip down to their store to pick up the pieces. Rather than their offering to dry clean them at their facility for free, as this oversight was their mistake, I had the option of paying them ~$20 to dry clean the garments, or to make another roundtrip to the store to pick them up and wash them myself. I opted for the latter. Before I returned to pick up my clothing after they had been stitched, I called the store to see if they would accept checks as payment. I was told by the employee who answered that they indeed would. The next day when I arrived to pick up the pieces and pay with check, however, the employee working the counter at this point told me that they could not accept a check. The employee told me that they had been "burned" in the past with checks. I respect their decision to not accept checks. However, given my conversation the day prior with one of their representatives to the contrary, I was upset. (For what it's worth, it was a personal check, the address on which matched my driver's license, which I presented. They also had a couple of orders on file under my name illustrating prior business where payment was rendered in full). This amounted to another wasted trip down to their storefront. In short, I was unimpressed by their customer service and an apparent absence of a unified understanding of their own policies. read more

I brought a new suit (worn twice), along with two blazers to be dry cleaned, only to have them each returned with large, faded/bleached-looking discolorations in the pits. It was especially bad in the suit jacket, which cost me $300. I brought the items back and patiently and politely explained the issue to the man working the counter, who informed me that it was not anything they did. I explained that these big stains were not present when I dropped off the items to be cleaned, only to be told that it was probably a chemical reaction between the cleaning chemicals, my particular body chemistry, and my deodorant, and it was not their fault. I was also told that it must have to do with the particular dye used in the suit jacket, but then I showed him the other two blazers that were also damaged. He suggested that I tried to return the suit jacket to the manufacturer. He did not offer to take the clothes back and try to fix the stains/discolorations, nor did he offer me a refund of the almost $40 I paid for cleaning, never mind apologizing for wrecking my dress clothes. Excuse me for being a man who wears deodorant and sweats: how unusual~! This would indicate that every guy who picks up his suits at Broadway Five Star cleaners should expect to have his clothes ruined, too. I was not warned that if I sweat or wear deodorant that my clothes would likely be rendered unwearable and ruined by the dry cleaning process. The staff, especially the late evening staff, are great and most accomodating. Be it a need for a quick clean, or other issues, they have always been there to accomodate with a smile. It is greatly appreciated. I can even get past that J.T. song that happened to be playing the last time I was in! While the price is a bit high, it is comparable to any other place in the are, but is, nonetheless, the only reason I'd not give 4 not 5 stars. read more

The gentleman on the phone was professional and friendly. Dropped it off and was shocked it would only be $14 for 24 hour rush! Pick up was easy and again, they were soooooo friendly! My favorite coat has 3 huge stains now. I brought my favorite jacket of all time here - one I have had most of my adult life and view it as an extension of me all winter. It's probably 30 years old but had done me well. I have always avoided cleaning it - but alas is was finally time. This was my first experience using a dry cleaner so I was looking forward to the results. The wait time was 5 days. Seemed a bit long but again I've never used a service like this so maybe that's normal? I asked for them to also use the scotch guard or whatever the waterproof/stain proof stuff they charge extra for - I was excited about this as well. Got my coat back and excitedly took it out to notice 3 VERY noticeable stains that were not there before right in the middle of the jacket. It almost looks like they used a spot treatment on these areas and it's just permanently there now. Also - it's not stain or rain resistant as the person informed me while pitching the extra service. Water soaks right in just as it did before. Sadly - I think my favorite coat is permanently ruined. read more

i regret having to write this update. while 5 star cleaners does a good job on my clothes, their service is BAD. my clothes are never, and i mean never ready when they say they will be. the lack on organization is astounding. employees don't know where my clothes are, orders are taken wrong, the clothes presser isn't on site today. i spoke to the owner about this. i told him that i love the way they clean my clothes, that i would like to continue to bring him my business and recommend him to my friends but that it's going to be difficult to do this with the service being so unreliable. he was defensive and passive aggressive about it and kept trying to redirect the argument. it was pretty stupid. i'm going to be looking for another cleaners that's a little more professional. read more

I absolutely adore these guys. Never disappointed with their work, clothes always come back in better shape (has not always been the case with many others I've been to that have crushed zippers, etc.), and they have a magical tailor/alterations lady whose work is invisible (and very reasonable). We take our once-worn wedding dresses to this location all the time to get them cleaned. They even pick-up and deliver the garments to our bridal store. They tend to get almost everything out. If they notice something wasn't removed, they'll make note or if we notice something didn't come out, they'll take it back and spot clean it again, if something was overlooked. They can normally turn things around in a week. This particular location is highly recommended for bridal gowns. They have cleaned some very high priced garments - they can do both silk and polyester. You don't want to mess with bringing a silk gown just anywhere! Some places could ruin the fabric - we've seen it happen! The owners clean the wedding gowns, so I like knowing they do the work AND stand behind their work. I found the staff very friendly but this is a dry cleaner and friendliness is not the service they are providing. I prefer attitude and good service over shoddy service and a smile- in fact I expect that at a dry cleaner. In short this place will take your job no matter if they understand what it is or not. I had to explain what I wanted done 3 times to 3 other people (a simple hem) and they still did the wrong job. Then when they took it back to fix it without even a warning they tried to charge me again.
