We cannot say enough about the amazing job that Laura, Caitlin, and their Five Star Catering team did for our May wedding at Waterfall Lodge and Retreat in Ben Lomond! Laura was so easy to communicate with and so very flexible with the menu. When we did our pre-wedding planning, it was so easy to bounce ideas off of her and to work with her to craft our unique menu based on recommendations she had. When it was time for our in-person tasting, she was very attentive to the details that we wanted and was very accommodating when it came to subtle changes we wanted to make to the wedding menu so that we could accommodate all of our guests. Also, when we expressed our interest in designing custom signature cocktails, Caitlin at Five Star was very open to the idea and very helpful in coming up with unique recipes that fit the vision for our special day. When the wedding day rolled around, wow! The appetizers and dinner buffet were amazing! Such delicious food and so much of it! Our guests raved the entire night and for weeks after the wedding about how delicious the wedding food was and how full they were from the buffet-styled set-up we had! They were all so happy with the food and the service that Five Star provided! And the signature cocktails were so popular! People loved the uniqueness of the drinks and kept coming back for more! As for us, the newlyweds, we were busy running around with the photographer getting photos taken for much of the afternoon. But that didn't stop Five Star from sending two attendants out to us with our signature cocktails and warm appetizers so that we could have them fresh! That little gesture was so nice and really telling of how great and detail oriented the team at Five Star Catering is! They really take good care for you and everyone else at the wedding. And at the end of the night, Five Star cleaned up and left nicely packaged leftovers from the wedding so that we could enjoy our delicious wedding food (that we didn't really have a chance to eat during the wedding) for a few days! It was very nice to know that the food wouldn't go to waste and that they would take care of making sure everything was cleaned up and packaged accordingly. We had heard so many good things about Five Star when looking for wedding caterers. Because how many things they offered as part of the wedding package, how cost effective they were in many ways, how good their food was, and how great their staff were. Omg Five Star catering is the BEST of the best!! I had them at my rehearsal dinner and wedding at Holman Ranch this July and they blew me away! For our rehearsal dinner we had the Fiesta taco bar and wow I wish I could have those tacos all the time. The presentation was beautiful - the red and white checked drapes and eucalyptus leaves looked perfect - decor that didn't distract from the constantly replenished pans of perfectly prepared and seasoned food. The service was just right - Albert was a quiet and efficient chef - Cheyenne and Miguel moved quietly among all the guests removing dishes but not hovering - the drink tables were carefully tended and the cake service was done with professionalism and grace. All were cheerful and polite. Donald, my husband and birthday celebrant, spent 42 years managing hundreds of events - he's not easy to please in this area - and he said he was thoroughly impressed - "they even cleaned up well before they left" - high praise indeed from him. They were excellent in all respects when we used them to cater our wedding -- their food was delicious (so many of our guests were shocked that this was how good wedding food could be!), their service was fantastic and they were extremely organized and easy to work with. I was the mother of the bride, and we financed the October 2019 wedding at the beautiful Sand Rock Farm in Aptos. The venue has a number of required vendors they work with, and Five Star Catering was one of them. Fortunately, they were fabulous to work with, and we could not have been happier with all that they did on our wedding day. How often do you actually hear people compliment wedding food? We have received so many emails complimenting the food and the staff. There were delicious passed appetizers and drinks during the cocktail hour and dinner was served family-style at round tables. Laura and 5-star catering provided the catering for our wedding in Carmel Valley, and while I was entrusted with only two jobs as the groom (food & booze), I feel like Laura and her team made me look far more capable then I actually am. My guests raved about the food being the best they'd ever had at a wedding. Laura's menu was not only incredible (the chicken with pine nuts and cheese, the salmon crostinis, the tri tip, and the pork stuffed mushrooms appetizers were big hits), but her knowledge of the venue and her flawless setup and attention to detail made me feel like 5-star was doubling as the event coordinator. She helped us map out everything, from the table arrangements for eating, to all the ancillary setups for gifts/cards/audio mixer for speeches, etc. Laura's team was so flexible and adaptable during the event as well. They were able to shift seats to accommodate unexpected guests, as well working seamlessly with the florist to arrange the garlands and centerpieces beautifully. If the quality of the food alone wasn't enough to convince you (which I assure you it will be after the tasting... show up hungry!) Wow, this is an amazing catering company. We were new to wedding planning and weren't sure about costs, what was included, etc., but Laura was fantastic to work with and the overall cost was very fair. Five Star helped us do it all: in addition to the food, we were able to get a bar and all the rentals we needed. We were married at Sand Rock Farm and Five Star is a required vendor, which was not a big deal as we didn't have to go searching for a caterer. We were really impressed during the tasting event that was held in February and excited that the food was actually pretty good. During the wedding day, everything was well-executed and so organized. The table settings were so lovely and simple. The food was pretty pricey, but it included so many elements from appetizers to mixed drinks. We even added a french fry bar as a "late night snack" (that was an additional cost but so worth it). Right after the ceremony, I wanted to try an appetizer. I made eye contact with one of the servers and he nodded to let me know he would make his way to me. He doesn't know how much I truly appreciated it at the time! Immediately afterwards it was picture after picture, so I'm really glad I was able to try one of the appetizers! Five Star turned out to be the perfect partner for creating a wedding day menu that was memorable, delicious, and locally focused. From the beginning, we appreciated Five Star's approach. Starting with our first introduction call, Laura was down-to-earth, direct, and a good listener. We knew we wanted a vegetarian menu that focused on local, seasonal ingredients; Laura was immediately on board. She provided sample farm-to-table menus for us to peruse but also encouraged us to get creative and suggest new dishes that we love. In the end, we picked a number of items from their standard menus and also worked collaboratively with them to create a fresh summer salad and a burrata-herb platter for our family-style dinner. At our tasting, Laura was attentive and detail-oriented, making small adjustments to the dishes based on our taste preferences. On our wedding day, Laura's team was friendly and helpful. I'd like to preface this review by writing a note to the owner: When people are going to meet with potential wedding vendors, they want a friendly exciting experience. Jot that down somewhere you look often. Anyways.... RUDE. My fiance and I met with this caterer and were shocked at how cold and un-personable Laura was. (Especially after working with Morgan who was SO NICE). We were also rushed out of the weird, dark veteran's hall (they do their tasting here) once our meeting was through...I guess Laura has better things to do than try to book jobs. Laura didn't understand our vision and ended up changing entirely the look of the event from how I described wanting it. (Since then no other vendors have questioned it, just enthusiastically helped to make our vision a reality). The food was just "okay" and I felt sick half way home (we live an hour away). There were a few stand out dishes but aside from those the rest I could have prepared easily. When I emailed Morgan to let her know about our experience and why we wouldn't be booking with them, she completely understood. It's a shame Laura doesn't enjoy making that connection with engaged couples that so many other vendors offer. If you're booking for a corporate event where no one is expecting greatness, go for it, if you're booking for a wedding...go else where and save yourself a less than par experience! read more

After we picked Holman Ranch as our wedding site, the next big thing is catering. Holman has a few preferred catering company, but due to the type of food as well as cost, we chose 5 star. The tasting was a quite good experience, as well as the walk-though before the wedding, Laura is very nice and detail oriented, she got all our feedback down for the food, picking of the table linens, she also revisited the menu with us a few times through email. There's a few times My emails were not answered and phone calls weren't returned promptly that Makes me worried and wonder whether should go with another cater. But after she explained she's swamped with another wedding, then things are back on track. The staff were great at the event, service were good, appetizers are pretty good, as well as most of the dishes, the main disappointment was the sea bass, it tasted so tender at the tasting, but completely dried out at the dinner reception. I really like sea bass that's why I picked 5 star catering, but the fish wasn't good that night. maybe coz we are running late, so they need to reheat, but I think wedding catering shall have the experience how to manage the cooking time and serving time. read more

Wow, this was such a great catering company...from beginning to end...they did a fantastic job for our daughters wedding last weekend. The food was completely over the top, excellent. The passed hor d'oeuvres were so good they had people begging for more that is until they tasted the wonderful offerings on this buffet. The food was presented beautifully and there was so much of it and it was all hot and fresh. The staff was courteous and efficient. We had been to a tasting before we settled on this company (we had tried four other companies) and settled on them because of Laura's demeanor and the great tasting food. BUT, the food was even better when it was served for our guests...We have had so many comments about how delicious the food was ... we really didn't expect it to be so over the top good.
