Journey Roofing and its owner Tom Ross, replaced the roof on the house we own. A few months later,…read moreduring a rain, the rainwater came into the house and went between the interior and exterior walls and on the wood floor. I then contacted Mr. Ross and explained what happened. He said he would send someone out to look at it. The crew came out and they said they couldn't find any leaks. I then looked closely at the problem, and found that the downspout had a bulge in it, and was separated at the seams. I took the downspout apart and found that it was clogged. The reason it was clogged was that there were pieces of shingle, dozens of rusted roofing nails and pieces of plastic from the roofing packaging which caused the downspout to clog. I took a pictures of the debris. I sent Mr. Ross pictures of the debris that clogged the gutters. He stated in an email "I agree the roofing debris in the downspout is definitely on us. I will reimburse you for any costs that you have to get it fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience." When I sent him the invoice, which was for a few thousand dollars that I had already paid to repair the damages, he reneged on reimbursing me for the damages. He then came up with the excuse that it was a pre-existing problem, and wanted to see a full report of my home buyer's inspection report with hopes of finding something in it that might excuse him from the responsibility for paying. I told him that there's nothing in the homebuyers report that supports that this was pre-existing, and that that report is proprietary and has private information contained in it.. When he turned me down for reimbursement, I then tried compromising with him, and tried negotiating with him on paying a portion of the damages. He wouldn't do that either. I'm not a litigious person, but I have been wronged and cheated. Mr. Ross not only went back on his word, that's bad business.

I was asking about a way to add an air gap on our existing roof because our house doesn't have an attic and we got alot of ice damming, even with heat cables. I thought it was weird Rex Roofing was interested in the job I initiated as a Yelp Project because…read moreI haven't seen anything remotely resembling my 1200sqft 1970 ranch house on their website or socials, and I'm in Longmont while they're based in Castle Rock. Stay far away from them if you're not in a reasonable service area. They are an insurance claim chaser company and will step all over you to get at your payout. They sent different people out to inspect and provide quotes (gutter and soffits/fascia was the scope requested). I did not ask for a roof assessment but the gutter guy thought it might be eligible for an insurance replacement, so I said sure send the guy on out and let's see what happens. That's where it got really.... interesting. My first appointment was for a Friday. I asked for a specific time so I could manage my work schedule around the inspection. A time was agreed upon. Nobody showed up. I had to initiate contact to find out that they would not be coming that day due to the time/distance. We rescheduled and on the rescheduled date, I reached out early to confirm the time and was told the inspector would be 30min late. I readjusted my work calendar and was notified it would be an additional 15min. This turned out to very much work in my favor. The inspection was very thorough and took about 1.5hr. At the conclusion of the inspection I was told they can convince the insurance company to replace the roof. They showed me what ended up being a contract, but was not presented as such explicitly by name. I was asked to sign before they revealed the "fine print" on the back page - which involved having the insurance company sign the check over to Rex Roofing rather than me (I have USAA). This didn't sit well after discussing with several people and reviewing the fine print. I voided the contract within the 72 hour grace period so I can get a second opinion, gather additional quotes, and control my own insurance payout (if that happens). Instead of responding to me to confirm they received my email (always document in writing! With time stamps!) they forwarded it to the inspector who started texting me asking to "resolve" the situation. I explained, as I had in the email, that I would be taking my insurance payout myself and I requested a "cash price" quote from them. I was then told there was no way my insurance company would approve it without the inspector present, a number of wild assumptions and insinuations were made, and I was essentially berated by text by the salesman for exercising a legal right to void the contract. I had to block his number because he would not stop texting me to mansplain how I had no idea what I was doing as a homeowner and he was the only person who could convince my insurance adjuster to cover the roof. Turns out he was right - they talked me into opening a claim, the adjuster said the roof is perfectly fine and they would replace only one portion of one downspout that had hail damage. I can't tell you how the "value" of this company compares to others because they said they would do the work "for a price agreed upon with the insurance company" without providing a scope of work or any numbers of any kind in writing - so I guess they're not really interested in much besides doing the job for as much as they can squeeze out of the insurance company. I might not have made a USAA claim myself but everyone else in my family has.

Disappointing Experience -- No-Show for Scheduled Appointment…read more We scheduled an appointment with Skylight Specialists / See the Light Windows to measure our home for five replacement windows and a sliding glass door. I originally requested a Saturday appointment, but because none was available, we delayed our vacation departure specifically to accommodate their Monday appointment scheduled between 1:00 and 1:15 p.m. Unfortunately, no one showed up. By 1:45 p.m., I had to call the company myself to find out what had happened. I spoke with Blade, who was cordial and explained that my phone number apparently had not been "keyed" into their system correctly. This was particularly frustrating because I entered my information correctly when scheduling online, and they had both my correct email address and home address in their system. Blade said he had attempted to text me and wanted to reschedule for another day. However, when a customer doesn't respond to a text--particularly for a scheduled sales appointment--a simple follow-up email or phone-number verification could have prevented the situation. What bothered me most was that although Blade was cordial, there was no real acknowledgment that their mistake had wasted my time and caused us to delay our vacation departure for an appointment they failed to keep. Instead, the solution was simply to reschedule for another day. Mistakes happen. An incorrectly entered phone number alone would not normally cause me to leave a negative review. The bigger issue was the lack of follow-through. They had my correct email and address, yet apparently made no additional attempt to contact me, and I ultimately had to call them to find out they weren't coming. Window and door replacement is a significant investment that requires accurate measurements, careful coordination, good communication, and attention to detail. If a company can't reliably manage the initial sales and measurement appointment, it raises legitimate concerns about how the actual installation and any subsequent issues will be handled. Based on our experience, I would recommend potential customers take this into consideration before choosing this company.
