Sunday April 1, 2024 Totally new look from the last time I was here about 4 years ago. The dining room has been completely demolished and replaced with modern amenities and furniture. There is now an Outside Dining Area with umbrellas for sunny days. Staff is still very polite and professional. You are greeted with a smile and conversation from the cashier when you enter. The staff that cooks the food is busy with their duties but they will look up and smile. The kitchen area has been totally renovated with the latest and greatest. Very clean stainless steel grille and hood. Definitely is appealing to the eye. Kudos to the staff for not being the stereotypical fast food workers. Expect to pay a premium at any Five Guys these days. You get what you pay for! Is it worth it? That is subjective. It's worth it for me and my wife BUCK. I call her BUCK because her teeth are Buck. When we want a QUALITY CHEESEBURGER and some great French fries this is where we come. Always a pleasure to eat here. This location, I believe, is the last remaining Five Guys in York. The next closest is probably Shrewsbury, which is really sad considering we used to have at least 3-4 different locations. Nevermind that though. The food is immaculate. Every burger that has entered my mouth, I have thoroughly enjoyed. You get what you pay for... and some extra fries to go along with it. Burgers are normally served as doubles, so if you want a single patty, make sure you say 'little' in front of whatever you're ordering. I've never actually had a hot dog here, but my boyfriend loves them and even requested to have one served on his burger once. They, of course, obliged happily. Ingredients are always fresh and surplus. Make sure to grab napkins cause you're probably going to make a mess. As far as fries go, a small will suffice for 2 people. If you're in a group of 4, a large is perfect. They give portions generously. Order at the counter, choose a seat and wait for your number (on receipt) to be called. Drinks are self serve. Ketchup and other condiments can be found with the napkins, straws, and lids. If you feel like embracing your inner child, or just have small children with you, paper and crayons are provided. The place is a grease trap! Nothing is clean, Service is absolutely horrible here and the manager doesn't do anything about it. Seriously, it's not the best burger I've ever had. But it might be the best fast food burger. My preferred style is with a little A1 sauce, mayo, and no cheese. Yeah, it's one of those cases where I've found just the beef to be better. Though I've been tempted to walk in with a slide of cheddar or swiss and have them make it to order. Wish they offered a different bun. But other than that, it's hard to be their burger. WARNING: Fries, do NOT order a large for one person. Not until you've tried a small first. She saw them fill the small cup and started to say "That's not a lot!" and before she'd finished the words we watched as they dumped a second scoop of fries into the bag. Fresh cut fries, in fact they tell you where the potatoes come from on a given day. They also provide vinegar for the the fries. (Interesting fact, eating fries with vinegar helps lower the glycemic spike of the french fries and can actually be healthier.) Lastly, let's talk about the small things that make a real difference. They may just be peanuts, but man....peanuts are great while you wait. That's right, they usually have boxes of peanuts. The prices for these burgers may seem high, around $6, but that's about what McDonald's and Burger King charge and they are no where near the quality, taste, or freshness of Five Guy's. It does take about 5 - 10 mins for them to make a burger, which seems long when you are waiting and hungry, but that's because we are used to fast food burgers that are already premade and sitting, unlike Five Guy's. Don't worry, the waiting isn't noticed much though because they provide "all you can" eat peanuts free of charge. What makes this place so good is that these burgers are 100% Angus beef and just like their fries, they are thick, delicious and cooked in peanut oil.
