Wish I could have left a better review as we enjoy Five Guys back home but this location was a huge disappointment. Was not too busy last night around 8 pm when we visited so can't blame the poor service and mistakes on that. Guy behind the counter never paid attention to our order and wouldn't even make eye contact. Had to repeat what we wanted several times. We ordered to go which was a huge mistake as both of our burgers were incorrect as far as toppings and fries were cold and very grease soggy. No bacon on my bacon cheeseburger. l ordered hot sauce and extra peppers and it was not on the burgers. Total disappointment and will go elsewhere next time. read more

I walked in at 10 pm (the doors were not locked and ppl were still waiting on their food). I stood at the counter and the staff looked over and said nothing. Then they start saying we are closed. I was confused and looked at my watch which said 10:01 pm. I indicated that the doors were still unlocked and they said "we closed- there's McDonalds..." and listed off several other places as they continued to put buns on the grill for ppl that just ordered. This place is perfect in terms of everything It is close by to the metro station- mcpherson square and it has a large place for people to visit. Furthermore, it opens late on the weekend-so good place to visit if you are tired. The staffs are efficient and friendly, and their drink station is the cool touch screen drink station! It was just before midnight on a Saturday night. We were hungry and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before the Metro ride home. The gf had never been to Five Guys before, so what better time to acquaint herself than right then? Getting food anywhere at midnight can be a dicey situation. Still, we weren't deterred. Truth be told, I was quite impressed with the service that was professional and proficient even in the face of the weirdness that often happens around the Witching Hour. The restaurant was clean and even the restrooms were decently maintained. We each ordered a Little Cheeseburger, mine with the works, and split a large order of their regular fries. A few minutes later, we got our order. Unlike the "gourmet" burger places in town, Five Guys doesn't ask how you'd like your burger because they don't care...you get it medium well...which is okay by me since Five Guys isn't trying to be all hoity toity. The selection of toppings may not be exotic, but there are plenty to choose from to make your burger as varied and delicious as anything you'd find at a gourmet burger joint for $2-3 less than those other guys. As for the fries, admittedly, they weren't as fresh, crispy, and airy as.those you'd likely get during busier times of the day. Yet, the large order is considerable and the fries were far less soggy and better tasting au naturel than those I've gotten at a burger place owned by a former Top Chef contestant. Not sure if it's a good thing or a really bad thing that they are now only a quick jaunt across McPhearson Square, but what a great place! Three times the size of the nearby Chinatown location, which makes the air circulation so much more pleasant. It was after 2pm, so if there was a lunch rush, I missed it. The staff was very pleasant and even smiling! (I must see this training program!) I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, and was in such a good mood that I bought a another cheeseburger to surprise a co-worker. When they called my number, the expediter even said "thank you" and "enjoy" AND "have a great day"! (We'll see how long it takes for this to wear off) All of the burgers automatically come with two beef patties..mmmm! Fresh never tasted SO good! Ever since I arrived in the District, upon hearing that I came from glorious California, I have been asked "Five Guys or In-N-Out?!?" followed by a demanding "YOU MUST CHOOSE SOON" when I explain that I haven't tried Five Guys. Being someone that eats a new burger pretty much twice a week, it took me a while to get around to it. But I finally did. And Five Guys makes a good burger. But to answer that nagging question, verdict-style: Five Guys is really good. Like really good. But my cheeseburger with regular fries and a coke cost almost $13. And the taste was similar to a Carl's Jr. Super Star -- Five Guys is basically expensive, better Carl's. That is a fact and there is no denying it. So, "Five Guys or In-N-Out?" Definitely In-N-Out because it's cheaper (I can get a 3x3 with fries and a drink for like $7.50) and has a unique taste that you can't find anywhere else. read more

dayum, dayum, dayummmm! I've eaten here at 3am more times than I'd probably like to admit and damn if these burgers don't go down really well. Definitely one of the juiciest burgers you can get and even with the drunk people around its relatively quick and efficient. They're always a security guard in there anyways. Only thing that I didnt like is on my most recent visit the guy totally screwed up my order. For some reason he rang up a little burger with no bun.... I guess he thought I needed to go on a diet? On a whole, the entire Five Guys chain deserves at least a 4-star rating for the food; this location distinguishes itself by its customer service. The lunch line swells monstrously at lunch time until about 2, but they keep it moving even while treating the customer with none of the exasperation that you'd receive at, say, a Philly cheesesteak joint. This location at lunch is basically an indoor food truck. The food quality is the same chain-wide: the burgers are juicy and fresh (but beware: the "little" burger is enough for most guts), the condiment selection is wide, and they serve enough fries in the "regular" size to complete a meal in itself. There are a million mutant squirrels in Franklin Park opposite who will love you forever for the fries you cannot possibly finish. The coke machines are a fun novelty if you've never tried them before, but do sample a crazy flavored soda before you fill up a cup: most of the flavored cokes, etc, are disgusting. Pro Tip: They offer online ordering, which means you can bypass the line completely if you're going for lunch. This location looks out onto a courtyard featuring a Metro's escalator. I can neither confirm nor deny that having a Five Guys around the corner helped convince me to choose my particular apartment building. I have a VERY serious love of Five Guys since back when I was nothing but a DC summer intern. And this particular Five Guys location does not disappoint. The staff are friendly and quick. Interior is clean and on par with your typical Five Guys. And oh my those burgers and fries! Nothing gets me salivating quite like a paper bag from here with the grease spots starting to show through. It took me a while, but now I can finally say that I've been to a Five Guys. After hearing about them for years, I always meant to go, and after a tour of the White House, I decided to swing by here for lunch. I was extremely confused by the six sizes of burger. They have three (I believe the options were hamburger, cheeseburger, and bacon) listed under the "little" burger menu, and the same options on a separate menu without the "little" specification. I found out later that "little" means one patty, and regular means two. If they changed the categories to something more descriptive (like, I don't know, "single" and "double"), that might generate less confusion. Initially, I thought maybe "little" meant kids' size, which it certainly wasn't (unless you're a very hungry kid). A little hamburger and a little fries came out to a bit over $7, and was enough food to feed me for two meals. The fries portions were very generous -- they filled a cup and dumped an extra helping in the bag. The "little" burger was also a decent size, despite its misleading name. They slathered the hot sauce right on the patty, adding to the flavor of the meat. Toppings are all free. Jalapenos are raw, so order if you're daring. Five Guys is remarkably similar to Z Burger, but Z Burger has a longer list of toppings and more extensive milkshake list. I think I prefer Five Guys though, because limiting the toppings list means their employees have greater capacity to do fewer things well, instead of being spread too thin managing various toppings. Also, free peanuts! This location was pretty fast with completing my order, but it was also nice to snack on some peanuts while I waited for my food. read more

I once loved Five Guys (the fast food joint that is), but this was eons ago, back in the middle of the decade (the 2000's?) when the guys were covertly placed throughout the city. I discovered Five Guys during the whole health conscious fast food craze, back when Jarred was losing weight instead of gobbling down BLTs. Fast forward to present day, we consumers have had enough wheat grass and smoothies, and are back to our old desperately craving saturated fat... yum. Responding to demand, Five Guys has expanded to multiple locations and is no longer a secret, which is both good and bad. The bad: Five Guys is now ubiquitous, thus no longer special. Paving the way for other local favorites to get on the franchise wagon (I'm looking at you Ben's Chili Bowl) The good: the status quo has definitely been raised for burger joints. Even the big boys have noticed and attempted to make freshness a standard. I call that the beauty of capitalism. This particular 5 guys is cool, as it stays open pretty late. Not sure how late, but during drunken hours for sure... which is cool with me, for I'm tired of pizza and McDonalds as my lone late night options. Like any other 5 guys, the burgers are freshly made when you order, the fries come from real potatoes, and when you finish a meal you are full until dinner time the next day. Great burgers and great service! The place is pretty busy and they are also open late. I was so impressed by one of the staff who served a sight disabled gentleman. After arriving in DC around 9:30 on a Friday night, I was shocked to find that there weren't too many food options in the area by the hotel that was still open (well, that were in our price range at least). It was great that by the time we got there, a little after 10, after being headed for McDonalds, that Five Guys was still open. Between Mcdonalds and Five Guys it is a pretty hands down decision that Five Guys wins...always. I used to absolutely love Five Guys, it had to be one of my favorite places to grab a burger. That is until they built one in my town, which is horrendous. So bad that I slowly watched my love for Five Guys slip away. I didn't think it was possible for the fries to not taste good, but the Five Guys in my town has mastered it. If I have anything to say about this Five Guys, it is this: Thank you DC for reminding me why I loved this burger place to begin with. After a long day, and a great fireworks display in our nation's capital, my family and I decided that we wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. We decided on five guys, pretty much because it was on the way and it was the only option. We walked in to a busy restaurant around 10:20PM. My daughter and wife had to use the restroom, and waited in line while my son and I had to find clean a table because nobody was proactively doing anything to make the restaurant look presentable. My son and I cleaned a table and waited. My wife and daughter came from the restroom and told me how disgustingly dirty it was, and there was no toilet paper for them to use. My son then used the bathroom and said there was no paper towels left either. This was not our first time at a five guys, and my daughter loves the peanuts. We couldn't find a box. I went in line and was rushed, one guy was manning 2 registers, literally. He rushed me through the order, but thank god I thought ahead and had written down my order so I would get it right. The food came out correctly, with the typical disgusting grease soaked paper bag of burnt fries after a long 10 minute wait, and my family started eating. After I finished eating, I found a box of sealed peanuts, and went to open them because clearly the staff was too busy to do this for the customers. I was immediately yelled at by a young staff member that this was for tomorrow. Funny that they would yell at me for this, but weren't around when I was trying to ask for peanuts. I asked why we couldn't have any peanuts, and he said it's just for tomorrow. I wanted to speak to a manager, and had to wait in line to talk to him. He was extremely rude and said that after 10:30PM they do not open peanuts because there is a different crowd. I am not sure if that's when the elephants come, but the crowd seemed alright by me, especially since it was after the fireworks and there were more families than club goers. Just prior to me leaving, I had to use the restroom... I walked in and found blood and crap soaked paper towels in the garbage and about 20 feet of urine soaked paper towels on the floor next to the toilet. This place was a complete disaster. All said and done, I will not be stepping into a Five Guys again. This place, especially, was unprofessional. Nobody knows how to manage this place and it needs to be watched by corporate during busy events for this particular reason. read more

Let me start by saying I have been to 5 different five guys locations across three states, and all locations BUT this one warrant a 4 star rating. I give this location a 1 star because of what can be described of a continual lack of supervision. On three different visits that were on weekdays past 6pm, I have been served: two hamburgers with un-chewable mushroom stems, one hotdog with un-chewable onion stems, and one 15-min late order of fries. First and Last time ever eating Five Nasty Guys. Literally the worse burger spot ever. The guys did NOT wear Hair nets at all. Neither did the ladies with passed shoulder length hair. This was the first time I'd been to one of these. I have been missing out! I had a burger with fries. There's a good variety of choices for toppings which are all free even jalapenos, grilled mushrooms, and grilled onions. I got a little burger which is a pretty good size for me and fries. The side of fries was gigantic. I just really wish they had other side options other than fries. I don't realy like fries that much but I don't like not getting a side with burgers. I am very impressed with the line management at this place. When I went here with some colleagues the line was out into the street and I was immediately annoyed, figuring we'd spend the whole lunch hour standing in line. It was a very pleasant surprise when the line moved rather quickly. We all had our order and were seated within 20 minutes. Five Guys has great burgers, fine fries. I am actually not the biggest fan of the fries, but they are not the style I like anyway so I will not let that really impact my review. The food is greasy but very good. I guess the point I want to get across in this review is: don't be intimidated by the lines. They look formidable but the staff does a very good job getting everyone through it and fed. This joint is everything you'd expect out of a well-run Five Guys. Great fast service, excellent food, plentiful amount of fries (Cajun fries), ample seating and open late.They also have 2 of the "Make Your Own Coca Cola Flavor" machines which is a nice touch whenever I eat here. We are also folks that eat fish and veggies.. OY I know.. what the heck is wrong with me? But.. they HAD a vegetarian grilled cheese sandwich.. I thought YES! So we get up there and this little surly person just was so bored or sick of us she could barely order the food.. what the heck? We were ordering off the menu after all! Not being all fancy girl or anything.. It took a while to get our food though the cooks were truly cooking.. they were moving so fast.. Visited DC and this was the late night eat by our hotel. I like 5 guys, they make their burgers humongous. They stack their burgers and it's a bit messy to eat. The fries are really tasty and they overfill that cup! I hear they use peanut oil, so if you're allergic, go! I kid, I kid. I like munching on a couple peanuts while waiting in line (which can get rather lengthy during the peak lunch hour time- try to go after 1pm). It's okay for what it is. The comparison to In-N-Out is funny because there really is no comparison. In-N-Out clowns on this place... This location is dangerous because it's on my walk to and from work :) I love Five Guys burgers. Their burgers are consistently fresh, hot and juicy. I appreciate the unlimited toppings that you can have on your burger. I also really like their fries when they just come out of the fryer. This location is very clean and orderly. I like it's ambiance and how open it is. The big windows and small patio make it great for people watching. I was craving a burger and let me tell you, after 8pm on a sunday in dc, its hard to find any place open...thats the downside of being downtown DC, I miss places like NYC just had the plain burger and it was thick, took a few minutes to prepare, tasted fresh and like real beef.....I rate Ray's hellburger as the best burger in the dmv, or maybe the country, but this was pretty good with mushrooms and everything on it....the free peanuts ( shelled) are a good touch and the malt vinegar...service was good ... it was sad to see so many homeless guys outside sleeping.... i didnt have the fries as I remember them being not so impressive their coke or soda machines are real slick and futuristic...very nice and the decor, they had salt bags slewn around on the floor???? fyi, they dont salt the burger, so I added pepper n salt, for the health concious this is good, but the trick to tasty burgers or beef is to salt before cooking, gives it full flavor! read more

This franchise was in the past very reliable. However, my last three visits have not been up to standards. Two of the employees are not following the guidelines that made FG good. 1) Fries have been wet and soggy and mostly bad. The French fry cook is not following the corporate process for fries. You can't make too many too quick in one basket or they become like the last bunch, almost inedible. You can't reheat fries! Please one more time and I will notify corporate. 2) You can't make a good burger if you are constantly pressing the patties on the grill. The patty doesn't cook so much as burn in tiny chunks. When you do that, the grill becomes crusty and has to be scrapped which is gross! Follow the process and no problems. Why these two guys are spoiling FIve Guys is beyond me. I am not so much in a hurry that I need to have my lunch destroyed by someone who just wants to roll out for the day. read more
