Was sent to the Bay Area for work and figured I try Five guys for the first time. Have heard a lot of mix reviews on the place. Let me just start off with GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! The burgers are absolutely disgusting to the point it was inedibleI have never had a burger so dry and bland to the point where I almost threw up. I ordered sauce but the patty alone didn't taste right. The bun tasted completely stale. The fries we got were Cajun fries and were cold and overly seasoned. So, I've been in here twice in the past couple of weeks and I've had a very pleasurable experience both times. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Everybody's in a good mood, jovial, but also very diligent in their work. The food is amazing and the staff is great. I've had personal interactions with both Kennan and Hayden. They are both major assets to this company and I would like to personally commended them both. Even so, the other workers on duty seem just as amazing. Amazing service! I was greeted right away and helped very fast. The worker also was attentive in getting my order right and making sure I got exactly what I wanted. I also loved the food. Bottom line: food fantastic ! Cost: high price. I ordered 1 cheeseburger with lettuce onions, and mayo, mustard, 1 small fry and a medium drink. With a 20% tip total was approximately $23.00. I will return again but not frequently due to the cost. The cost is the only reason I gave 4 stars in stead of 5. The atmosphere is a fun casual hamburger place but the price is a more restaurant price where you would have full table service. The service was fast and friendly! The staff pay attention to making a fantastic tasting burger. The hamburgers are double patty and the hamburger is like an old fashion hand made patty. Juicy and delicious. Good place to stop by when you're craving a burger (and can't fathom waiting in the In-n-out line). The menu is simple and straightforward - burgers, fries, milkshakes, and a couple hot dog/grilled cheese options. Note to self, a regular burger comes with 2 patties, so if you're not super hungry, a "little" hamburger/cheeseburger will probably be enough. They also have free peanuts to munch on while you're waiting for your meal, and you can customize your burger with bacon, grilled onions, peppers, jalapenos, A1 sauce, etc. which is also nice. They also take pride in using fresh ingredients and even have a chalkboard where they write down the name of the farm that the potatoes came from that day. I did love this location but they have gone down hill. For a while if you ordered lunch you we're still getting delicious food BUT then lunch is just as bad as dinner time. Its like there is no thought & they are just doing what they have to do to get by! I tried for at least 10 orders because I loved them so much but all I got was overcooked and stale hard fries. The third was a little cheeseburger... it was cold also. The burgers are so small & we're so overcooked it was ridiculous. We ordered a large & regular fry. They were burnt & mostly broken fries. Both pride themselves in fresh ingredients in a clean bright environment, with garden fresh produce and excellent fries. Both are red and white. Both cook everything within eyesight of you. I could not figure out my fries. Many uneven pieces, some were small, some were long. This one puzzled me. I also couldn't figure out why my fries had different complexions - some were golden brown, some were almost burned. Looks like there were multiple batches that were individually cooked and put together. Now the main event and why we come to burger places. My burger was a bit dry, which indicates a leaner ground. I'm looking for the juices to flow down my arm and to give my napkins a workout. I think I only used two napkins, which is good for the environment, but not good when it comes to judging burgers. One positive is the number of toppings at Five Guys is pretty impressive, but not enough to convert me. Free peanuts, but no milkshakes. Still not enough to convert me. But if you're just soooo hungry, they have free peanuts to munch on while you wait for your food to be cooked. When it comes to hot dogs, Five guys wins because there is no contestant from the other side. And when it comes to soft drinks, Five Guys wins for having the entire Coca-Cola line up includining Coke Zero, Cherry Coke, and Power Ade. In-N-Out does win on milkshakes, however because Five Giys just doesn't have them. With the fries...its a no-contest, In-N-Out fries are and have always been limp, bland, weak-sauce generally speaking and 5 guys are epic proportions and flavor... But really, to me, it's about what you're in the mood for. They are each a different taste in burgers. If you're driving, you have to go In-N-Out because of the drive-thru but also a double-double can be contained. A Five Guys "All The Way" Cheeseburger (two bigger patties, by the way) cannot and demands your full attention. I had never heard of five guys until i was with my friend who was born in jersey and we saw one being built in Sacramento. She flipped out and said that it is the best burger place hands down and that she was shocked to see them in Cali. I immediately wanted to try it, and soon enough I had that opportunity. Can I say AMAZING? Amazingly super bomb delicious burger!! The burgers are so meaty and cheesey. The toppings are oh so delicious. With so many to choose from such as peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes shredded lettuce and many more. Also their Cajun Fries are yummy and they even post where the potatoes for the fries are from on that particular day. So I have grown up in Cali and I have always thought IN-N-OUT was pretty good.
