I can count the number of times I've eaten at five guys in my life. Thankfully, every experience has always been great! While traveling from Orange Beach, I decided to stop at Five Guys, and I was so happy that I did. There was a line upon entry inside the restaurant, but the line moved relatively fast. There were two cooks in the kitchen area, who moved swift and efficiently. What I love most about Five Guys is that I could watch the chef prepare my meal, and I know that every order is prepared with those fresh cut fries. It's a chain and I have visited several locations over the years but this is my first time here. It might have something to do with the fact that they are a few feet away from Whataburger, and well I'm a big fan of Whataburger, sooooo. There's a Five Guys in virtually every state with 112 in FL and even 3 in Hawaii (Mahola) with the exception being Alaska :-( There's actually 1700+ locations worldwide so there's a lot of 'em. They only use fresh ground beef, there are no freezers at Five Guys, just coolers and they only use peanut oil for their fries. Let's talk about those fries, they're cooked to order and their crisp and usually hot and overflowing amounts, good stuff. Why do some folks go crazy over these fries? The secret is Five Guys fries their potatoes in two stages. First, they dunk raw slices in oil to "pre-cook" the potatoes. Then they fry 'em again, creating a crispy outer layer around a soft, mashed inner goodness. The Cajun fries are legit too. The burgers are easily some of the better burgers, no matter where you live, with fresh hand pattied beef served hot and juicy. One of the secrets to those juicier burgers is that Five Guys workers are trained not to press down on the patties, which retains the juices, know you know that inside scoop. Make those burgers your own with with a any or all of the FREE condiments mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, jalapeños & green peppers, Bar-B-Que, A1 & hot sauces. They only their standard burgers, hot dogs and fries on the menu but you can ask for the infamous secret patty melt, it's a grilled cheese with a burger patty inside :-) The other big mention is their milkshakes, they are thick and creamy with a dozen flavors available including peanut butter, salted caramel, Oreo cookie & BACON :-) Love it!! Whether you're eating in the restaurant or taking your food home, they serve everything in paper bags, their thing. Now for the elephant in the room, I usually hear how it can he pricey, especially with a large family with no kids menu or combos. But their model is different from others chain while a hamburger and fries is more expensive than your typical fast food restaurant, but that's because you're getting twice as much food. Each burger, unless you request a smal, has two patties, adding up to a half pound of meat. And while each portion of fries is technically meant to be measured in cartons, the employees end up dumping massive amounts of fries into the bag to the point where even the smallest size is more than enough for two people to share! Finally, I like the Five Guys story as it was a Mom & Pop, Jerry and Janie Murrell, who started this business and the Five Guys refer to their five boys. That's the official story but there were just Jerry & his 4 boys when they opened their first place but soon after along came along a 5th son :-) From their humble beginnings in Arlington, VA in 1986 they've done a pretty good job of bringing their idea burgers and fries to the masses, nice story. Needs to be cleaned. No TP in ladies room and floors slick. Condiment Counter had a huge spill and instead of cleaning it up they handed out the food around it. Who make the best burgers, Five Guys, In -and- out, Bahama Bob's etc will never be solved but these guys are definitely in the race. Their burgers are cooked perfectly and loaded with flavor. So if you order on the app do not, and I repeat... do not order a milkshake!!! They absolutely refuse to make it in advance so when you get there you wait at minimum 10-15 minutes for your milkshake. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!! Seriously... Your food is just sitting there getting cold and stale while you wait on your milkshake to be made. AND you get in line behind everyone else for them to make your milkshake- even though you ordered your food 30 minutes ago by the app!! Not worth it!! If you want a really good burger for around $5, come here. The burgers are always juicy, the topping options are a plenty, they're always so generous with the fries, and they now serve milkshakes! I'm not kidding about the fries though. 2 people can share a "regular", 3-4 can share a "large". My go to is a little bacon cheese burger . The bacon is always nice and crispy, just how I like it. Literally one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. The 3 workers, 1 guy and 2 girls) would laugh as customers would walk to the door and see that a face mask was required and walk away. While there a gentleman walked in with a shirt tied around his face and they served him with an order they had yet to complete through the app. When a group of guys came up without masks the workers started laughing so the group put their shirts over their face and asked if it was okay and the male employee goes umm I don't think so how about you guys call and order with a very smirky attitude. I don't see the difference of a shirt tied around your face and pulling one over. Then as the group of guys closed the door again the employees started laughing and the male said not a chance was I going to let them in. The whole time we were ordering the male was taking it down and he rushed us on our order. When we asked about drinks he stated the were only selling bottles so then we asked what kind they were and the male just sighed and listed off all the drinks fast. One of the female workers put our food in the bag and then dumped a scoop full of fries onto our burgers and cup of fries that were already in there. McDonalds is better than this. As a vegetarian I got the veggie burger naturally along w fries and a water...... Everything was bad. Every vegetables on my sandwich tasted like dirty bath water, the fries were very burnt, which I'm never picky with my fries. And the water was Dasani, which if you don't know is the worst possible water because of the awful PH levels. Ok, so 5 stars for a burger joint is going a bit far, but you have got to try it. I've been to 2 Five Guys in different locations and they were both the bomb! Regular hamburger is a double - so order the 'little burger' if you don't want that. All the way means lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, mayo, mustard and ketchup. But - there are lots other toppings - all free! One regular order of fries fed 4 of us. You can order a 'single' order of fries and that would easily feed 2-3 regular people or 1 hungry man. Best. Fries. Ever. Seriously. You wil be stuffed from the burger and can't stop yourself from eating the fries. They have free peanuts in the shell to eat while waiting for your food, but don't be tempted. Well it looks like this burger joint is starting to be like alot of others in the area, they start out great and very consistant and then all of a sudden you go in and everything is horrible. We have eaten at five guys several times and everytime the burgers and fries were awesome, made exactly as ordered, very pricey but worth it. Now they are starting to go downhill. We went in and ordered three burgers and 1 fry, the total was $25.00 as usual but when we got home to eat first all three burgers were not fixed as ordered, we were pulling tomatoes off of one and lettuce off another and prepping our own as we ordered them. The order was put in correctly but the prep person had a hard time reading I guess..The meat was overcooked and the fries were dry. the whole meal was not good at all. This is the first time that I have seen alot of new faces working there, they must not be receiving proper training...If the service continues like this then I wouldnt be surprised if their doors shut down also but we will never know because this was the last time we will be eating at five guys. read more
