We hired Stephanie to cater our wedding of about 75 people (our initial count was 120). We chose passed appetizers (she customized a Buffalo, NY specialty item!), stationed crudite and cheese/charcuterie platters. The servers she brought with her were totally spot-on - identified vegetarians in the crowd and ensured that they were brought items they could eat, made sure my new hubby and I got a selection of food to eat and moved through the room with complete professionalism. When I talked to Steph about catering my Love Feast, I told her that I wanted delicious-awesome food for 40 people around the clock from Saturday AM - Sunday AM. Instead of slapping me in the face for being crazy, she embraced me! I've never seen someone so passionate and excited about such a daunting project. We had one meeting (only one!) and she came fully prepared with a variety of example menues and heaps of other ideas that she thought I would enjoy. It was an incredibly natural process. We literally talked about my favorite comfort foods and she would brainstorm ideas about how to make it classy cool. For example, I told her about my Hong Kong Steamed Bun Adventure and she knows how much my hubby loves Duck... Steamed Bun with Roast Duck? WTF?!?!?!?!!!! Anything is possible with Steph. The part I most enjoyed was that I could really just go nuts and she was right there with me throwing out even crazier recipes. I even asked her if she could make this Peruvian Soup that I had in Torrance. What did she do? She drove down to Torrance and ate the soup for research. SERIOUSLY. That's love. After having the pleasure of attending a three day wedding party this past weekend, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with Five by Five (and their owner, Stephany) and would recommend them to my closest friends and family for any occasion. First off, the food was delish! I can't decide what I liked more between the breakfast empenadas, the fried chicken and waffles, the seafood paella, or the vietnamese pho after a long weekend of partying... I mean it was all so darn good and fit right into the mood. Second, the timing... I'm not sure how the heck she handled the timing so well. I love to eat, and I can't say that I was hungry once or that my food was ever cold. I'd be in the pool enjoying watermelon caprese one minute and on the patio, the next, having some sort of bbq beef stuffed muffin of joy. I swear she had little invisible elves helping her behind scenes. Lastly, poise... She honestly was on her feet for 72 hours cooking and serving between 20-40 people all day long. And she really only had one helper, maybe two at most. That alone was impressive, but to be friendly and entertaining and to handle it all with a smile on her face was the icing on the cake. We had the pleasure of working with Five by Five catering this past New Years as we hosted a formal dinner party for 25 in our backyard for a largely international and definitively foodie crowd. Stephanie kicked off the evening with a selection of passed appetizers consisting of mini pulled pork sandwiches, white fish ceviche, and mini latkes with smoked salmon and craime fraiche. With each pass of the tray, our guests were consistently surprised and awed. Dinner was comprised of beef short ribs and two sides, which ranged from a kale dish to couscous with edamame to potato aux gratins. Delicious! In addition to providing us with a menu that surpassed our expectations, Stephanie is a consummate professional to work with. Recently had a big party with about 75 people in our back yard. Stephanie and her crew catered, and it was FANTASTIC! Stephanie and her crew showed up an hour early to start setting up, and were so professional. Even with a bunch of our family milling around before the party, she was able to get right to work, and had everything set up and well underway before any guests arrived. Stephanie was great about letting us customize the menu to our preferences. Five by Five catering is AH-MAZING! My husband and I contacted Stephanie when we decided to cater my sons 1st birthday for 50 people. I chose her from all the wonderful reviews on Yelp. Once I took a look at her menu, I knew the food was going to be great! Our only problem was that we had a hard time choosing our menu since everything sounded so good, and the items we chose for our tasting, were scrumptious! We went with the chicken & waffles, crab cakes, Argentinean steak skewers with Chimichurri and Adobo Tacos for passed hors d'oeuvres.- For lunch, we chose the braised beef which was so soft and tender- the corn with Cojita and the Seafood Pallella. Everything was honestly superb and all our guests were raving about all the food. Stephanie was always available to answer my questions and always put my stress at ease. We also hired a bartender and server through Five by Five, and I couldn't be more pleased at their professionalism and friendliness with our family and friends! They not only passed hors d'oeuvres, served lunch, made drinks and kept my guests happy but they also took it upon themselves to make ice cream sandwiches for my guests from my cookie & ice cream dessert station (which is something I never expected them to do) Stephanie and her staff are the perfect choice for any occasion! Steph had created a thanksgiving meal for our office of 100 when she was still based out in ny. With so many different tastes and diet restrictions, it's a catering nightmare! But I have to say, she handled it beautifully. By the end of the day there wasn't a drop of food left! Even the vegetarians were impressed with their special entree and the vast selection of sides that were veg-friendly. You know you got it right when you've got top execs who've had the best fine dining NY has to offer, commend you for finding the best thanksgiving caterer to date. From the start Stephanie was extremely easy to work with, attentive to details and just so sweet. She really made it easy for me to coordinate an event from across the country! Working with Stephanie and Five by Five Catering was a great experience. The event was my dad's 70th surprise party and Stephanie and her staff were a joy the whole night through, even joining in and hiding away from the windows when the guest of honor pulled into the driveway. We had some last minute indoor/outdoor reformatting due to light rain, but the whole thing still went off without a hitch and Steph was a consummate professional. We can be a tough bunch - from those of us who will eat anything to a handful of vegetarians and even a vegan. Stephanie made sure there were plenty of choices for all and the guests were complimenting the food all night long as each tray came out of the kitchen. The mini pulled pork sandwiches are all they're cracked up to be and the tuna sashimi melts in your mouth.
