Cheaper than new - obviously. But a new book at $12.99 is selling for like $8.99. Better to shop goodwill bins as books are some of the last affordable things at thrift stores. As a seller I took $70 for a collection of about 200 quality dvds. sold individually on eBay or Amazon if I had the time probably $500-1000. Same with the books. I have gotten $50 for a case of 100/150 best selling hardbacks. You never know as one time I brought in quality mint condition coffee table books - my offer for the lot of 50... $2. So I don't know what the deal is but the worst thing is they don't return your books. Some they take and will throw away or donate because the don't want to offend. I wish I had the option to take the books they knew they were gonna trash. All in all, they are only game in town u nless you want to do this full time. And I see them taking advantage. But that's our America. Read they are private family owned. Interesting.

Located in a tiny outpost on the Mississippi on the Wisconsin/Iowa border, a sweet little picturesque town of maybe 1,000 people. But this store would be a find in any big city with a reputation for having lots of book lovers. History - American, Iowan, Native American, wars, rare medical texts - literature, from Steven King to Basho's poetry. Kids' books of all kinds. Poetry, fiction, theology and religion. It was incredible to find something of this quality here. I bought a two volume set of Lincoln's speeches and writings, but if I lived in the area, this would become a favorite and frequent haunt. The owner was courteous and knowledgeable, too - a former airline pilot, if I recall, and he has wonderful taste. If you're a bibliophile who lives in or is passing through the area, it's worth a detour.

I'm more of a hard goods collector so right off the bat I wasn't impressed. The South location has a large collection of vintage fire extinguishers. Somthing I love to look at and own a couple of. Then I looked at their prices... WAY over market price for an item I am very informed on. Maybe It's a personal collection they don't really want to sell? I found a lot of the hard good items like this... I won't discourage you from stopping in. You might come across that one of a kind treasure you are looking for and you are willing to pay whatever it takes to get it home... I would encourage you to get off of Main St. and find some of the other off the beaten patch antique and thrift shops the Galena area has to offer. If you want my terribly honest opinion... Head to Missouri. The antique malls and shops in the Springfield, Ozark, and Branson area are second to none! And they don't charge you champagne prices for their beer selection...

You need to find a small, curated, family friendly book store. Well for us it's Galena Book & Paper. I'm a true history buff and my partner is into fiction, opposites in the same place. We both love to browse the selection, read some, then make some choices. Jason, the clerk, welcomed us as we entered and asked if there was anything we we specifically looking for. We smiled and told him we're browsers who've been here before and we're searching for some special reads. After about 45 minutes of browsing we found our choices for this trip. Back in the children's area there is a small shelf of graphic novels. However, some of these titles are definitely not for kids, e.g. The Road and 1984. Yikes!
