Fortunately/unfortunately, my iPhone's microphone had stopped working just the day before, meaning that I could hear people talking but they couldn't hear me, so I had a chance to give Tech Lab a try. The building is very Columbia City-ish with plenty of parking. Inside, there were large screens posting info about their vast services (don't judge them about the extra "L" in the word "follow"--they're going to fix it. It's not nearly as noticeable as when a Chinese menu has the word "shrimps" on it.) I was greeted by Charles, who looked very smart--and not just because he was wearing glasses. I told him about my dilemma--my new Hans Solo in carbonite case didn't protect my phone from a fall and phone back itself cracked. I attribute it to the fact that Hans was in carbonite. If his hands and legs were free, I'm sure Hans would have been able to shoulder-roll onto the floor. After some entertaining banter, I left Hans in good hands with Charles. I was given an initial quote and an ETA. He even called me partway through to tell me that he tested my phone parts in other phones and other parts into my phone to see if he could isolate the issue. Awesome. I was just thinking he would see the part was broken and replace it--but he went above and beyond at no initial cost. When he called later, he sounded apologetically grim: My motherboard was damaged. The motherboardin' motherboard. A death sentence to something replaceable like an iPhone. Apple had told me that my phone could be upgraded for $150 (but I'm waiting for the Fiiiiiiiiiive!) so I'm going to wait until I can't tolerate not talking on the phone. This may be a good time for me to work on my ESP skills anyways. Even more amazing, my final bill was less than HALF the original quote that I was given. And it wasn't the lower bill that blew me away, it was the goodwill behind it. I felt the love *fist pump* So in conclusion, this is the place to be. So clear out the [*ahem*] questionable content on your devices and bring 'em on down. Don't forget to "like" them on Facebook so you can get $5 off of your first service with them. Looked them up here on yelp, read the reviews, and called them to make sure they seemed normal. I dropped off my iPhone, picked it up a couple of hours later, and it was perfect! He helped my sync my Time Machine to back up my files when initially I couldn't even get past the password not working. He set up my business email on my phone, which had been there but got lost when I upgraded to a new phone. Just this alone was a huge help. I had hired another company in Philadelphia to add my work email to my phone and it took them 3 days of lots of emails and calls back and forth and them working with godaddy. It was not smooth at all and David did it in 10 minutes. I also mentioned that I was getting pop up windows saying "Hard disk full. Delete files to create more space." David figured out which files were taking up the most space and set me up with Google Play, something I never would have thought of. He would double check his research as he was setting things up and it reminded me of that scene in The Matrix where Neo downloads different programs; within a few minutes he learns Kung Fu. David is just like Neo for IT and computer issues. He knew within minutes what to do for each one of my problems.

They sat down with me and suggested a configuration in the middle for my QuickBooks consulting business. They pointed out that I didn't need to use a i7 chip for my set up, review, and training business and an i3 would be under-powered. Now seven years later, it is still running strong. I then went back when I had hard disk problems. They replaced the drive with a solid state drive, suggested that since I could do a fresh install that this would be a good time to switch to using a 64 bit operating system (I had chosen 32 bit because of problems with QuickBooks and 64 bit systems when I first got it built), and doubled my memory to 8 GB. Price was reasonable, on budget, and delivered on time. I recommend them to my clients who need real computers and not the crap sold at big box stores or Costco.
