Transformative 8 weeks. I've been doing combat sports for most my life and I've had some injuries along the way. A torn ligament in my ankle from Muay Thai, a labrum tear in my shoulder from Jiu-Jitsu, and just general injuries from Krav Maga (like hyperextending my knee 8 months ago). Our bodies are pretty amazing and how they deal with injuries. But I didn't realize how much impact these injuries were having on me because I could still, eventually, go about my routine. After the labrum tear it took me 2 years to be able to do a push-up again. But I managed to get back into Krav Maga and I was able to do most things, except put any weight above my head or behind me, or pull (problems with grappling, hammer fist, throwing). I've gone to physical therapy for a couple years and it help a bit, it was part of how I got back into working out. But I always found myself with pain after working out. And my body was just overcompensating in a lot of different ways in order to enable me. I did a bunch of personal Pilates training sessions. Those also helped a bit. But I am very happy to say that after 8 weeks of training with Lara, working on mobility and rehabilitation. By strengthening muscles I never pay much attention to, by stretching muscles I didn't realize were impacting muscles 5 muscles away, I'm now able to squats without pain (it hurt even just walking upstairs for months), do push-ups and tons of planking exercises without shoulder pain, raise weighted balls above my head and slam them down to the ground, pull weighted cables back to isolate and exercise both shoulders, and I've been doing boxing class that are intensely focused on shoulders, all without having to take 5 Advil after. I feel mobile, stronger, flexible. I'm very grateful. read more

A little bit of background on myself. I had not worked out in a long time prior to me coming to personal training, was in graduate school, gained approx. 20 lbs, and work in a stressful work environment. I would try here and there to motivate myself but would give up halfway. I found myself diagnosed with sleep apnea in April 2017 and way too young to have this condition. I found Lara's gym and immediately asked about the 30 minute session. After that 30 minute workout, she gave me a suggested time frame to meet my goal. Lara's goal for me was not to lose weight or fat, but to simply sleep and feel better and not use my CPAP machine and that's when I knew she was genuinely invested in my well being. I started in September 2017 and was consistently attending until July 2018. I stopped using my CPAP machine just from the workouts and additional workouts Lara provided me with! I felt stronger and grew leaner every month. Lara is sweet, caring, and will tell you things straight without sugar coating them. She has grown to be a person I respect and who pushes me further than I can push myself at times. With her encouragement and positive attitude I felt that I could do a lot more. Even when I "fall off" she is never disappointed and continues to lift my spirits up. I just finished a 2 month course with Lara. I honestly thought I would never make it through - I have never been active in my life, never had a personal trainer, had tried multiple times to become a regular at the gym and failed, and also my schedule only allowed me to have 6 am sessions here. To my surprise I made ALL my sessions (minus some where I was sick), and had never been happier waking up early for a workout! Lara has taught me so much about how to effectively work out, I always looked forward to my twice a week sessions every time. It's easy to push my personal health to the back of my priorities list. Once in a while I'd go for a run on the treadmill, but it's always been hard to lock down a workout schedule. Then sometime during the summer this year I decided to take action. I remembered hearing about FitProsLA a while back and seeing that it was conveniently located at Promenade Towers, I called Lara up to make my first appointment. And was I glad I did! I remember feeling very comforted by the gym's layout - the atmosphere, and its' cleanliness. Although the space isn't as big as your typical commercial gym, there's an impressive variety of equipment and plenty room to workout in. Lara started me off with a diagnostic session to determine a custom workout routine for me. She also made sure that her plan was in line with my goals, which was to lose fat, get toned, and gain strength. Seeing that I was a beginner, she eased me in with basic cardio (mountain climbers etc.), squats, and focused on my core strength. After just 2 weeks I started seeing improvements! My core felt tighter and I was able to increase my cardio intensity. Lara then introduced upper body workouts, which really opened my eyes to just how much work I needed to reach my goals. I wasn't used to push-ups, pull-ups, and shoulder and back workouts, but Lara made it easy for me to get started. This is the best place to train in downtown. The trainers are spectacular. Very knowledgable in everything fitness. From corrective exercises, food, interval training, weight training you name it. Lara is THE BEST. I have had several trainers over the years but all pale in comparison to how great Lara is. Past trainers have asked about my body and then went forward with training me giving no thought as to what ailments, limitations, etc. I had. Lara is the first trainer and I have ever worked with who actually listened to me and trained me how I should be trained and for that, my body has never been in better shape. I have struggled with pain in my knee for years and the doctors have told me I need to focus on tightening my leg muscles. I have explained this to trainers over the years to no avail. Lara watched me work out on our first free session and diagnosed my problem areas immediately. Not only that, she continued to work throughout all our sessions to make sure these issues were addressed and fixed and I'm happy to say that my lower body has never felt better. Lara is smart, knowledgeable about the body and incredibly fun to be around. I have to credit her with changing the way I approach working out in general. I used to feel like I was lazy and needed to hire a trainer in order to work out. Not anymore. I go to the gym on my own now, using the weight room and cardio room, any room I can access I am there! haha. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to get stronger and healthier in a safe, supportive, and sustainable manner. Lara is so kind and has a sixth sense for what motivates her clients. This skill and her incredible knowledge of how the body works allows her to develop workout sessions that are challenging and results driven, but also really fun. I came in with an old knee injury that was holding me back in the gym. She knew immediately what my doctor recommended and guessed my other issues right off the bat. The plan she developed for me included a meal guide (with very reasonable suggestions- nothing extreme - just real food), workout sessions to do at home or at your gym, and then a hard workout with her once a week, but you can choose to go as often as her schedule allows. First of all, FitProsLA is at a great location under the Promenade Towers.. I was looking of a gym to go workout once in a while and that is near my home .. Though FitProsLA is not a gym open to the public and is not selling membership's .. The personal trainer that is the founder gave me lots of information.. Like price and free consultation and orientation.. After I thought about it I realized that I could get a personal trainer in a really nice and workable studio and pay the same price I could have bought a membership with. But this way I would have a professional telling what the right way to work out , instead of me working out and getting injured because I don't exercise properly in the right form of way .. I've been coming to this place since April. Lara and John are amazing. They love what they do, they're passionate about their work and their clients. Honestly, they inspire me to work out and get stronger. I learned that it's not just about losing weight but being stronger, healthier and happier. I first trained with Lara - who is a badass go-getter and great trainer that I have come to really admire. In the first couple of sessions I saw how Lara can read your body when you do a workout and know exactly what was tight, what was hurting and why. She's like walking body genie. She'll tell you how you should stretch and know which workouts work. I've been training with John for the past few months who is also a great trainer and one of the sweetest people you can meet. He pays close attention, explains it in a way that I can understand, teaches technique, pushes me to keep going and mixes it up to make it fun. He doesn't kill you with the workouts but knows how much to push you to grow your thresholds and strengths. He pays attention to technique a lot to make sure you don't injure yourself and you do it right. Both of them worked on my workout plan (I think?) I've seen results. I got a body assessment at the beginning and a diet plan. I have been tracking my weight - I've lost around 8 lbs since April. And I've seen definition in my arms and back. I've grown stronger. Of course, I also do cardio on other days by myself but these guys give me the motivation to go do all that. And I'd say I've followed and kept up my diet + work outs 80% of the time. Clean eating as much as possible. Also, I love the music they play. I'm often dancing between workouts. So yeah - that's the kind of energy this place has. It's an infectious positive energy. I emailed Lara and she responded the following day then we agreed to meet for a consultation. She was so sweet and sincere during our consultation. I've been going for a couple weeks now and I love her. She pushes me to be the best version of myself without overdoing it. I am sore, but not to the point where I am not able to move. I love her energy and she wakes up super early to train me and I'm forever appreciative of that. What a difference one month makes when you spend a couple of hours a week with Lara at FitProsLA! I am a fitness professional myself but for the last few years I've been so focused on coaching other people that I let my own training fall apart. When I went to Lara last month I was 20lbs over my ideal weight (how the #!!**?! did that happen???) and feeling decidedly middle-aged and flabby. I had tried various other classes but because I am a fitness nerd I am super picky about exercise classes and trainers. I was always dissatisfied with the quality of the instruction, or quickly bored. Not with Lara! She is a stickler for detail when she trains, always checking your form for safety and maximum ass-kicking. She is not boring at all, always changing the workout and keeping you jumping around the gym, way too out of breath to even think of being bored. FitProsLA is an AWESOME studio! It has everything you need to accomplish an exceptional workout! I have known Lara, the owner for years! She has trained me and because of her I now have my personal training license. As a client and trainer, I have both perspectives and this studio caters to both ends! I train my clients in this studio and have all the tools I need. Lara bases her success on the success and accomplishments of her clients. She is not trying to pack this studio with as many people as possible but keeps the trainer/client ratio very low so there is no "packed gym" feel. In 2012, I graduated law school and was looking for a fresh start with my new found freedom. While in school, I gained nearly 40 pounds and wanted to come back to my original weight. Since I lack discipline when it comes to exercise, I knew that the only way I would be successful if there was someone who was able to hold me accountable, for that reason I decided to give personal training a shot. At that time, I joined a gym in downtown and was assigned to work with David Simmons. Initially, I was a bit worried to work with a male trainer, since I had had previous experiences with some who were either unnecessarily judgmental or cruel. Luckily, David was the total opposite. During our first initial meeting, he listened to my concerns and my goals. He also promised to never be mean to me, unless I personally requested the push. David met me at my level and helped me from the ground up! I have now been training with David for 4 years and followed him over to Fit Pros LA. I am happy to report, that with his help and guidance, I am now back to nearly my high school weight! David, needless to say, has helped me surpass my goals, has built my confidence, and has shown me that I am capable of having athletic ability. David always makes an effort to spice up my exercise plan to include everything from cardio, weight lifting, martial arts, MAA fighting and more. Besides exercise, David has taken the time to educate me on the importance of good nutrition and it impact on your weight gain/loss and building of muscle. I really would not be where I am today without him! As to Fit Pros LA, it is a cute small and very clean studio in downtown Los Angeles. At first, I was a little concern having to attend a new studio (especially in the morning with LA traffic), but I couldn't let David go! Luckily, the studio is close to my regular gym downtown and I am able to head straight there afterwards for either an additional work out or change to get ready for work. Don't be deterred by the studio's location or size, they validate parking and there is never an issue with overcrowding! It's a little hidden gem. read more
