Kathryn greatly helped me put together a coherent exercise & diet program matched to my personal goals. Her knowledge of nutritional theory was great, but it was her practical advice that really changed the way I eat for the better. Her knowledge of exercises to target specific muscle groups was also very helpful - when coupled with her objective feedback, this allowed me to strengthen some problem areas. I also felt she was also totally focused on me during the times we had allotted to talk diet/workout strategy. All good trainers know the fundamentals of diet and exercise, but what sets Kathryn apart in my mind is her dedication and enthusiasm as a trainer.

I also lost a lot of weight (45 lbs.) and she is part of the support system I used to do this. She is open minded and very "panoramic" in how she approaches problems and sees issues for what they are right in front of her rather than relying on any formulaic, rigid approach. I also appreciate that she has the right balance--she is neither too "heebie jeebie" (too New Age-y) but she is not like a military Army sergeant either. She is honest and forthright in her approach and very accepting of where you are. One of the absolute best coaches/personal trainers I've ever worked with and I have worked with several over the years...which is why I still check in with her on a regular basis.

I have tried a lot of workouts. Boot camp, pilates, bar, zumba, rowing, spin, step aerobics, dance,…read morerunning, cross fit and power lifting have all been in my repertoire at one point or another. One of the issues that I came across was that eventually I would get bored with those "one size fits all" classes. Additionally, since classes are elective I could come up with 1,000 excuses not to go. I needed someone to count on me to show up. I decided it was time to search for an actual trainer who could help me achieve my goals. I looked all over online for trainers and I knew I wanted three things: 1.) A gym that worked with all body shapes and sizes. There's nothing more confidence shattering to your inner workout goddess than staring at women in what appear to be bras and underwear while you're sweating it out in your Dad's old college basketball shirt and pants. 2.) Trainers that were willing to shake things up and try new methods. 3.) A gym that believed in a holistic approach to training. Mind, body and nutrition needed to all be part of the plan. I met with Carol -- an incredibly enthusiastic and passionate fitness lover -- who owns the gym. Right away she started talking about my goals, interests, types of workouts I enjoy, etc, etc. She took a lot of notes and got me all squared away. I have been training with Veronica for a little over a year. Let me tell you ladies, if you're willing to put in the work, you will see results! I have lost INCHES off my waist, hips and thighs. For the first time in my life I feel fit. Veronica has encouraged me to be strong, try one more rep and even cut out some of the junk food that I love eating! Veronica is willing to mix up the workouts too. We have done everything from pilates to kick boxing to some aerial yoga moves. I never in my life thought I could hang upside down and then use my body weight to propel myself to my toes and yet I did it 15 times! The gym itself is clean and comfortable. You can choose your own music and every trainer there is so friendly and sweet. If you're looking for a place that will value you for your whole self --- the person who loves pull ups yet also finds themselves eating a little queso at midnight -- you should try Goddess Fit. They totally get the human side of fitness and are willing to help you find the best fit for your body and goals.

When I leave David's place, I am on a high for the rest of the day…read more.. I have been trying to get back in shape for quite a while. A year or so ago, I hit 199lbs on the scale, which is heavy for a 50yo, 5'9" tall guy. I was actually tempted to cross the 200lbs at that point, just so I could claim it. It did not happen. Still I stayed in the upper 190, I was not feeling good, and I could barely fit in my working pants...contemplating moving up one size. I have always been active, but at 50yo, I could not find the motivation or discipline to really control the intake. My gutts was there to prove it. So while I was interested and excited about the idea of working out with a trainer, I was also particularly seeking help with nutrition and the mental aspect of eating. What's the point of burning calories, if I am going to kill a pint of ice cream every other night? I think this is where David made a difference for me. In our first call, the conversation was about the food, not the workout. In our early sessions, we talked a lot about nutrition... a lot: What to eat, portion control, anticipating traps of social gathering, tracking calories, etc...And it wasn't all about restriction, it was about finding something that would work for me, and more importanly, something that would be sustainable. His "knive and tequila" give me and my wife some inspiration, and kept the process fun. So for a personal trainer, I thought David was super knowledgable about The nutrition and awareness aspect of food intake. Checkmark. Workout wise, this is fun, and again, I think David is great at finding what I needed to do, where to adjust ( I came with my bag of injuries to work around), and how to get me in a groove. We have adjusted many workout to prevent strain on my lower back. David knows his stuff. For instance, I wanted to do pull ups. In 1 year of crossfit classes, I was still using elastic bands to assist me and was not able to pull myself up on my own. We agree to add pull ups as a goal for our training. In 3 weeks, David got me to do my first unassisted pull up. So workout wise...Checkmark too. David is also a fun guy. Again, his videos are a good examples of his sense of humor. He always greet me with a smile. He can look intimidating behind his beard, but he is a very personable guys and makes me feel welcome in his gym. That was the 3rd checkmark for me. If I want to sustain spending time, money and energy in such an endeavor, it has to be fun, and I have to enjoy whom I am doing this with. Every week, I am looking forward to do our 2 sessions. As I wrote at the beginning of this review, when I leave his place, I am on a high. The other day, I even followed the session with a 1 mile jog. 175lbs today. Not starving. Not miserable. Feeling much better in my pants, and in my head. Now is going to be the hard part: how to stay there and not get the weight back? How to keep it fun? This is where I hope that having David by my side will make a difference.
