It's a decent gym with a handful of minor issues but nothing that's really a huge detriment overall. Lots and lots of equipment and machines to use for just about every muscle group; I was pretty happy with the selection. Two separate cardio rooms was a nice touch as well, with the cardio movie theater being a unique thing I haven't seen at any other gym in town. Also the best-priced gym in Bellingham hands down, (unless you're a student at WWU with rec center access added to your tuition) which is really nice. Only downsides would include Fitness Evolution somehow always being crowded, not providing any towels, terrible parking, and no locker rentals; having those things would make this a 5 star gym. Oh and that cancellation policy that everyone is talking about? It's nowhere near as complex or difficult as people say it is. It's literally two things: 1.) You can only cancel in person (Or via written letter if you're out of the state) 2.) You are billed one more time for the next month after you cancel (while still having gym access) And that's seriously it. Why are people so confused by that? read more

Worst gym ever. The machines are frequently broken. When I tried to cancel, they have a policy to bill you again 3 weeks later because they can. They don't even apologize because they know that it is the biggest rip off. They can start charging you the same day you sign up but they can't stop 3 weeks after you leave. The place is clean, open at convenient hours, and great machines, it really is a.o.k. I wouldn't suggest signing a personal training contract though, unless you really want to pay through your nose for it, but it does offer a free session where you can get basic ideas and information. And if you have a kid, can't use them as an excuse anymore to not work out - they offer daycare right there in the gym. read more

Personally I love this place. Very Friendly Staff. Great ownership, management and the class instructors are amazing. I was on the budget plan of $13 per month and recently got the "premium" membership for only $35, it is still a bargain, love, love, love the classes and instructors. For the extra $22 per month I like the Yoga, Burn and Hit Fit classes. They have others as well. Place is clean & well equipped with a variety of equipment. I came in to check this gym out due to receiving a free trial through a mailer. The front desk guys aren't very friendly or helpful. I received no information regarding membership or scheduled and had to request a tour. These seem like standard service that should be offered rather than requested. The second day that I came in, I was informed that the free trial was only one day and that this location does not participate in the week trial. Would have been nice to know on the first visit. I was given permission for a second day and would need to join tomorrow. I had to request information regarding fees and pay methods. The guy seemed like I was bothering him. Again, this should be information offered to me. Customer service is poor. Basically, they don't give sh** about getting new members or assisting current ones. As if the job is that difficult. One must assume that it's a miserable company to work for. The locker room and bathrooms seem to be quite clean. You'll have to bring your own lock in order to secure belongings. The theater cardio room is nice and dark with a movie offered daily. Plenty of cardio equipment on the second level. Machines, benches and free weights available for use. The cleanliness in the gym is questionable. There are few areas offering cleaning materials. Probably 50% of the members actually clean items following use. There are 3 levels of membership available. The cheapest being $9.99/month plus an annual fee + tax. I'm on the fence about joining due to the amount of problems reported with paying and canceling membership. Decent equipment. Crappy service. Cheap membership. It's a toss up. read more

I now have to contact our credit card company to see if we can somehow get this monthly charge cancelled. We deserve a 6 month credit. While the Gym itself is very well equipped, updated and kept clean, the staff are incompetent to the fullest degree. I was a member here for a bit over a year. I even used their "training" third-party services for a period of time. The issues came up when it came time to cancel my membership. In June of 2016 my on file credit card expired. The gym promptly called me to seek payment, at which point I updated my new address and had a conversation with the representative about cancelling my membership, as I'd moved to a less convenient area and began using a different gym. The representative stated I'd have to pay the balance and a termination fee, which while annoying, was fine. I gave them my new address, my new card #, and was told they would process and close out my account. Well, here we are in November, and I just got a call from a collections agency. They stated I owe 105.00 for a gym membership at Fitness Evolution. Confused, I called Fitness Evolution and was then told that my address had never been updated (so the alleged notices they sent, never made it to me, even though I had forwarded my address with the post office, Fitness Evolution directly, and all my other mail seemed to forward just fine) and that they don't process cancellations over the phone. Reviewing my credit card statements, they never charged me from June onwards, so either the representative never updated my info, or something happened on THEIR end. Now I have to pay 105.00 for 5 months of gym membership I never wanted, or used, plus the collections fees. In addition I have a mark on my near perfect credit due to this shit show. All due to improperly trained staff and a lack of effort to resolve the situation, that I was led to believe was resolved. They had my phone number on file. A simple call would have fixed all of this, if it was truly an issue. read more

Ok gym. Can usually get a bike which is my most important piece of equipment. Not as good/new equipment as other gyms I've gone to (Thrive, B'ham Fitness). not happy that their cardio stuff is up a flight of stairs. I have a bum knee and often feel jello legs after working out and hate going down the stairs (silly complaint, but true). Childcare area nice and clean, but often VERY full of kids. My one big complaint with FE is that I joined them just as they were making the transition. Everyone was in the dark about what was happening. I ended up changing to the simple plan and filled out the paperwork. Three months after changing my plan, they charge me a NON-DISCLOSED fee. When I tried talking to them about it (and mentioned it was never disclosed on the paperwork they had me sign) they told me they'd pass on my complaint to the owner. Guess where that got me? I guess I should dispute the charge on my credit card, but it's kind of a hassle to do. Amazed that TWO complaints about this to employees got me nowhere. No one seems to care. Started at this gym about three weeks ago. Thought I'd chime in with my initial impressions: We started at the Y, loved the building but always found It an un- inspirational place to work out. I've moved on to Fitness Evolution and my wife has moved on to Bellingham Fitness . Fitness Evolution is a perfectly fine place to work out . If you like weights or weight machines they have every option I have ever seen. They also have a fine selection of treadmills , stair masters, elliptical machines, and cycling machines all in front of all the video entertainment you could ask for. They have a unique ( to me) feature where you can use cardio equipment in front of a movie , as though you are in a cinema. This doesn't work for me ( if I want to watch a movie I want to watch from the beginning and all the way through and I can't see myself on a treadmill for a 2 hr movie). They also have an on site smoothie bar and one-on-one training available for an extra fee. They have a pretty significant selection of classes that seem well attended. There is also child care available although, thankfully, I am now past the need for such. The locker rooms are clean with nice enough showers. (Yes curtains) and a same sex sauna. I've seen comments regarding the friendliness of the staff. I'm not really here for the staff but they seem friendly enough when I walk in the door. If I had to list a couple of cons: There is a very small portion if the overall floor space available for body based exercises such as sit-ups, jumping rope, push-ups etc. The place can be really crowded at the busy hours, say 5-7 pm. I've seen people waiting for a parking space. They could use some spin classes or even some spin bikes in the cardio area. I've been to nicer gyms, but this one holds it's own. Cheap to go to and during peak times can be busy. BUT it has everything I need and more. I never have a problem getting on equipment or finding options to change it up. Shot out to the new owner Steve! He helped me as a federal worker during the shutdown so I could continue with my workouts. There was nothing in place initially, but he was open minded about the situation, and followed up as promised with a solution. The renovation looks great, and they are really inexpensive ($10 a month for basic). I've been a member here for years, since 2009 I think, when it was still Gold's. Loved Gold's, but it was more expensive (but not as crowded). Only complaint is with the new low price comes the crowd- even at off hours it can be hard to find a parking space. And please redraw the lines in the parking lot. The ones along the edge of the lot are super narrow! It just leads people to park on two spaces, leaving even less parking for the rest of us. read more

I'm glad it's a clean gym. But they have replaced the clean wipes for a spray bottle and paper towels. So now I have to touch a bottle that everyone else is touching and That is a health risk. I joined two months ago, just moved here. I've been able to only use the smith machine ONCE because the members here do a set than monopolize the machines for 20 minutes while playing on their phones. They need rules about phones big time. The front desk staff clearly do not know what customer service is, yesterday there were 5 people at the desk..not one said hi, I didn't even swipe my card just to see if they were paying attention. Weights are never put away, rusty old Icarian cable crossover.."state of the art " is what they advertise. Handles on some machines bunched up or spin. Overall..it's a 10$ membership. You get exactly what you pay for. I won't be a member long. I'm the kind of member that likes to get in and out, I don't need my hand held, but I do expect a level of professionalism within a business. After three months I just canceled my membership, there's a reason this place only rates two stars, this is the dirtiest gym I have ever seen in my life, the staff is extremely unprofessional and rude and they love to discuss your personal business in front of other members at the front desk. After my account was hacked so I had to cancel the EFT they penalized me for paying cash instead, and then they charge me a five dollar late fee because the payment I made was on the fourth instead of the first, nobody explained any sort of a late fee to me while paying cash, or that it was due by the first day of the month or you're paying a five dollar late fee which is 50% of your membership fee, and not just that the first of this month was a holiday nonetheless, this place is a joke. This gym is barely tolerable, but the $10/month and proximity to my house kept me going anyway. I quit this week when I found out they allow a known neo-Nazi to work out at the gym "as long as he isn't recruiting" despite complaints/safety concerns of other members. I'm waiting to see if they continue to charge me. If that's not enough for you (really?), here are the reasons I was thinking of moving on, anyway: - As mentioned, this gym IS always filthy. Guess why? - People who work out here do NOT bother to clean up after themselves. Oh man, I know there are plenty of decent people at this gym just trying to get a workout without breaking the bank. But there are SO MANY who never wipe down equipment after use, don't rerack their weights/leave equipment around on the floor, fling weight clips around to later be scavenged from various corners & equipment by other members. - There are lots of hypermasculine bros who actually scream, yell, and drop weights on the floor during sets like that's... okay? impressive? what? I'm sorry, I didn't realize deadlifts or leg press are supposed to sound that way. - I've been followed around and stared at, there are a couple of creeps (although most people seem pretty focused on themselves). - It's. So. Crowded. Don't try going at 5pm on a weekday. You will wait 10-20 minutes to use anything, and of course, probably need to clean up after the person who uses the equipment before you. Go really early, or go at 9pm. Weekends are okay and even empty at night, just avoid midday hours. - Leaky roof??? They just don't take care of the place, honestly. That said, the women's locker rooms/bathrooms stay pretty clean. It's really just not a great place if you're into weights. Like others have said it's okay if you're looking for cardio. I have attempted numerous times to have a gym membership canceled. Initial contact was made May 26th by phone, informing them that I have moved and want to cancel. They informed me that I needed to send a letter of cancellation in order to close the account which was sent the following day. At this time, my account had a 0$ balance due. In defense of additional charges, I placed a stop payment order with my bank. After about a month and a half I received a bill in the mail from the gym stating that my membership had indeed not been canceled but they are continuing to bill me and had charged me a fee for reversed payment. I notified them a 3rd time of my intent to cancel and that the charges must be waived and they refused. Final correspondence took place with the businesses accountant, who refused to clear the charges. In total I have sent 2 Letters, 4 Phone calls and several emails. To this date they continue to bill me, have threatened to send me to collections, and recently have stopped all contact (Though they continue to bill me) There are plenty of options in Bellingham for gyms, the cheap price is not worth the fraudulent billing practices read more

They steal your money. I've been a member of this gym for almost 2 years and not by choice. I was told multiple times that I signed a two year contract when I signed the dotted line. Called multiple times after a few months due to medical problems, was told every time that I had to provide a doctor's note or proof of having moved X miles away before I could cancel. Called today to confirm the expiration date, was told that this "isn't how they work". That they go month to month. No apologies for having been lied to in the past. Apparently they're to make a "note on the account" when someone calls in to cancel and no one made a note on my account after I've called multiple times over the months to discuss this with someone. No apologies for having been lied to and essentially being robbed of money that they (after all this time) weren't contractually obligated to be taking. Very poor business tactics, none of the managers I spoke to were any help in any way. Now contemplating a lawsuit. This is not a "local" business worthy of your hard earned money. great gym and best prices. We trialed a lot of gyms in the area before signing with fitness evo. We chose this gym based on their large variety of equipment and hours. They close at 11pm on weekdays which is a huge plus, and also have great yoga classes on the weekends. It's no frills, but has everything you need to work out. read more

Finally I was able to schedule a visit back to Washington after nearly a year. So after paying for nothing they gave a late fee, an extra month fee, and another fee. I have now been going to this gym for about a year and wanted to update my initial review. I went down two stars for the following reasons: -The staff here is so rude And obnoxious. Initially I had a complaint about one meat head trainer who no longer works there, but now that I've had time to really get to know everyone I definitely noticed a theme. There's this one guy who wears a really tight Superman shirt who is such a douche that I just want to flick his face and tell him he's not special. He walks around with his arms flexed like everyone pays the gym fee just to come see him. The people who "work" the desk (aka hang out while checking their phones) are nice enough but I've never had to have any real interaction with them. There is one girl who runs a couple of classes who is frequently upstairs talking really loudly (usually high school style drama conversations, which no one wants to hear) and never wipes down her sweaty machine after using it. Talking at the gym really loudly is part of gym etiquette 101. Come on! -Because this gym is so cheap it's super busy almost all of the time. I go at 7 am and frequently the cardio machines I use are taken. -The upstairs is so disgusting. There is about an inch of dust accumulated on the vents and heating ducts. On one side of the wall was never finished from the remodel and the fiberglass insulation is coming out and is also covered in dust. I don't know what the two janitor type people are even there for. It's really not clean at all. Does the owner ever go upstairs to, I don't know, take a peek at the other half of the building? -My final complaint is that they're actually putting some sort of restaurant in the gym. What. The. Hell. They're already tight on space and they decide to take even more of that limited space to put a restaurant? In a gym??? Who wants to eat while watching a bunch of sweaty people exercise and grunt? That boggles the mind! They're in the process of building it and were staining tables with really smelly wood stain during one of the busiest times of day. These people are just brain dead with their decisions. The only reason I go to this gym is because it's cheap and I use it for cardio only. I hope another affordable gym opens up in town because I'd leave this one in a heartbeat. read more

This gym is ok. You CANNOT go anytime after 4 pm or on a Saturday morning because there is absolutely NO parking or cardio equipment available, so that sucks. Also it is not the cleanest place, i think there is only four bottles of spray to wipe off equipment in the whole place. They have this stupid 'restaurant' area but its been blocked off for weeks so its just wasted space right now and when it was open not more than two tables were ever in use so i don't know why they upgraded to 8 tables. no one wants sit and eat lunch in a gym! The cardio machines are in constant use and there are only six ellipticals with there own tv which seems ridiculous because they are the most used cardio machine. They have one scale for the whole gym and it is constantly broken or not working. whatever happened to having just a simple sliding scale? they used to have them in the locker rooms but now they are gone. And this next thing is small but it pisses me off everytime i go. The womens locker room toilet stalls don't have any hooks or shelves so you have to put your bag/towel on the floor GROSS or hold your phone in your mouth. It seems like they didn't really think of any details, and as a regular gym goer for most of my life i know a good gym is made up of all the small things that make a difference. this gym is cheap and you get what you pay for: uncleanliness, stoned staff, busyness, cramped equipment. read more

So here's my take. I just joined today and will review my post by the end of the month. I work out 6 days a week.I just had a membership at the YMCA and hated most aspects of it. The hours sucked, the staff didnt know anything about anything health related, if I didn't swim or play basketball then I was also wasting money on top of everything. Paying 19.99 a month for free tanning, a very up to date gym, nice enough staff (who by the way if you work out at a gym you shouldn't really ever have to deal with staff so all the complaints about staff are absolutely adorable because WHO CARES if they clean what they need to then you never need them.. seriously.) Large gym, people are friendly and willing to spot, clean, does the trick, and CHEAP. That's what matters to me. The only problem is that if you dont keep aware of the fees you can incur by not being on top of what you sign you WILL have a bad time. You are not on a contract and you pay as little as $10 per month when you give them a voided check. If you play by their rules you will not incur charges and wont get screwed. Be smart and read what their rules are on cancelling, monthly billing, etc, as always, and you will be fine. I suspect the people complaining are the type of people who sign away at anything and dont look into anything. If you want a personal trainer go to BodyLab on meridian. Best place in town bar none. [Edit after 3 years] I was right. I told myself this gym was inexpensive, decently well maintained (sometimes gym equipment is backordered thats not their fault), easy to get to, open from early AM to very late PM. After 3 years the only complaint I have is that this gym is SO POPULAR that coming in between 7:00AM-5:00PM can be tricky if youre impatient. The gym is very busy for a chunk of the day. I joined 2 years ago. I have the premium membership. I joined with premium because I like the classes. My favorites are Lee Mills Body Pump and Zumba. There is a variety of classes and times and it fits my schedule. A bonus is the tanning is included with Premium so I used it when I was going on a cruise. They are under new management which is more attentive than the former management. Parking is sometimes pretty full so I arrive a little early for my classes. The gym is clean and the locker room is clean too. The patrons are friendly. I go during the day. There is babysitting but is extra. I can recommend this Gym read more

This is an excellent gym. I've been coming here for years now. There is decently a lack of parking between 4:30-6:45pm. Sometimes you have to circle the parking lot several time to find a spot. The new owner is friendly but has unprofessional romantic relationships with the female members. This has created an uncomfortable environment and is noticeable by other members.
