Fitness Connection North Hills is a fantastic gym with plenty of space and an impressive variety of equipment to support any workout routine. The group fitness classes are an absolute highlight--they are fun, high-energy, and led by instructors who keep you motivated. There are just a couple of minor downsides to keep in mind: you do need to remember to bring your own lock for the lockers, and I noticed that the lockers themselves were a bit dusty. Very large facility and plenty of equipment, I enjoy the movie theater room as well for making the elliptical slightly more tolerable. They will offer you a free "personal training" intro which is very skippable -- it's over half sales pitch as well as seeming to be very focused on "make number on scale go down." I have to confess that I wasn't a fan of Fitness Connection - North Hills initially when I first started working out here. I loved my previous gym: location, equipment, crowd and price. But Retro Fitness closed and I had no choice. Looked at Lifetime, Planet Fitness, the Y and O2 Fitness, blech. They were all either too pricey or didn't have the equipment I wanted. As someone who's been at a gym for 25+ years, I know what I want and need. And here's Fitness Connection, charging $10/month and giving you access to a very large cardio selection, good circuit training machines, a decent dumbbell/free weight selection, group classes, a turf fitness area AND a pool?! Are you kidding me? The equipment is a bit older here but they do a decent job with maintenance. Parking is a bit of an issue in North Hills but eventually you figure it out. So while it's not perfect, it certainly meets my needs and people that work out here are pretty cool. The place is a high volume gym and it runs from newbs to serious lifters but everyone's polite and respectful to each other which helps. Just pick off-hours if you can't deal with the crowds. So when the new Crunch Fitness opened up at Cameron Village, yeah I did check it out. But at $40+ a month I just couldn't justify it and parking near that Chic Fil A is insanely bad, especially at lunch. And while it was so new and clean, something about me likes the grunginess and dirt you'll find in an older gym like Fitness Connection so I stayed. And that's why I gotta give Fitness Connection 4 stars, while the experience might be more like 3 stars, you can NOT beat the price in this area. Affordable with a lot of equipment. Problem is it is messy. Spend too much time looking for equipment. Very frustrating. People leave equipment and barbells loaded with plates. They leave plates on the floor. They take dumbbells all the way across the gym and leave them. The staff doesn't enforce rules that are posted all over the gym saying "re-rack weights." There is a yearly maintenance fee to repair and replace equipment. But don't see it being used properly. Benches with cracked padding. Weight trees broken. Barbells bent and little spin left. Not enough benches in dumbbell area. The pool and hot tub broken. They say they aren't responsible for it. Not going to fix it. read more

Don't get tricked by the $10/month and 0 down! I got tricked into it pretty bad. There was $43 "initiation fee" plus another $49 "annual fee" which I'm sure was written somewhere in the agreement they showed me in the SMALLEST font possible. Neither of those fees are particularly high but what really left a bad taste in my mouth was the fact that no one mentioned it and even worst that there is a "late fee" when I failed to pay those fees, but they somehow couldn't be bothered with sending me a notification, not via email, not via text/call or via the app that I kept opening every week to scan my card to go in! None of those tools had the capability to notify me about these fees that were overdue?!?! Seriously! And then when I called to cancel they mentioned a 30 day notice needed so one more month to be paid. Which I guess is common. Just all of these put together made me feel like I can't trust this place. I'm out! read more

Can I rate less than a star? WORST customer service I have experienced. The FC I attended before COVID has closed permanently. They continued to bill me anyway, and shame on me for not cancelling sooner. When I called to cancel, I was told they could not refund my annual fee. I was not asking for the monthly fees back - just the $39 annual fee. They said it was their "policy". When they closed my location, yet I still get billed is their policy? The person I spoke with on the phone then stated I could cancel BUT they were going to bill me ANOTHER month because of the 30 day cancellation policy. If anyone from FC reads this, for $59 (the annual 39 and the 20 monthly) you have lost a customer for life. Sometimes "policy" needs to be addressed individually. read more

I love this gym! Everything is so clean and all of the workers are so kind and helpful, I've been coming since January and only ever had positive experiences here. The gym is big. Has all the equipment you need. The movie cardio room is a nice touch. But it is clear it is all about profit over customer service. It has been the "final day" for zero enrollment since the first day I came here. How dumb do they think members are??!! They would charge an additional fee then don't give you a logical reason. You then have to go through customer service where they don't help at all. The gym itself is filthy. I would like to preface this review by stating that I've been attending this gym for nearly three years now. It was by far the best bang for your buck out there (until recently). Yes, there have been problems, but I (as a business owner myself) have tried to give the benefit of the doubt before resorting to writing a bad review. If you know anything about running a business/customer service, then you would be aware that **ONE** Bad review is worth **ONE THOUSAND** Good reviews. It is quite obvious that the local Fitness Connection - North Hills Staff (along with Fitness Connection Corporate) does not understand this simple business fact. Sadly I type this review immediately after canceling my membership, & signing up for the YMCA (which I should have done a long time ago). Very recently, the local staff refused to allow me to use my grandfathered VIP privileges that I was sold when originally signing up (THAT I AM *STILL* PAYING FOR). The male desk attendant working at night treated my girlfriend & I horribly when we came in expecting to utilize my VIP privilege of unlimited guest passes. He not only refused to offer a solution, but his attitude was god awful to the point of verbally berating my girlfriend & me. I attempted to approach the situation with solutions & sensibility, but he was certainly testing my patience. If an employee of mine EVER treated a paying customer that horribly, I'd fire him on the spot. The weight room is always in a sense of disrepair. There was a broken leg curl machine sitting in the weight room since December 2018, & was only recently fixed (once the only other machine broke too). The olympic lifting platforms are uneven, sinking in, & simply unsafe. The floor itself is even starting to give in. Every time I walked in, there was always something broken in the weight room. Many of the trainers look like they've never stepped foot in a weight room either. I've even witnessed these "trainers" giving horrible lifting advice to their clients. My weightlifting coach in college would have an aneurysm if he saw the state of this gym (and its trainers...) But hey... You get what you pay for I guess. Also, the billing department has a very scammy & borderline fraudulent tactic of claiming a monthly transaction "could not be completed" and then charging me a late fee once the transaction goes through (ALWAYS on the second try). Totally a "coincidence", folks... Simply Put, I do not recommend this gym to anyone. If you're looking for a subpar gym to make subpar gains in, then Fitness Connection is the gym for you! read more

It was better. It was a 5 star gym that I was a member of since 2015. But over the last 4 years it has been run into the ground. First, they got into an argument with rennaissance hotel over keeping the first class olympic size swimming pool open so it was shut for good. WHO CARES who owns the pool or if you have to maintain it...it was an awesome benefit to members and since you SHUT down all the other locations with pools in the whole of the Triangle region we have lost water aerobics for good. After the pool, equipment also started to break down. The Steam rooms...the other items... to wear all the amenities are just out the door now. They are letting this location go to h** in a hand basket. Which is just too bad. It was 5 star at one time. Bring it back!!! read more

This gym is my favorite in Raleigh. I've been a member for several years. Friendly staff. Clean, nice dressing rooms. I am currently on some prescribed exercises after a knee procedure, and there's only one abductor machine in the entire facility. It's always being used... or hogged. A small complaint for an otherwise awesome gym. If you have knee problems, there's no elevator to get to 2nd floor. read more

My family and I were members of the Cary Fitness Connection and overcharged multiple times. I spoke to Iris in customer service and she told me she would refund me the money. Unfortunately, she did not refund me the money and charged me two additional charges of $50.21 and $13.37. I was overcharged again instead of having my issues fixed. We loved going to the gym when it was opened and am very disappointed by Fitness Connection Customer Service. I tried to cancel my membership after the gym closed the Cary location permanently. Not only did they charge me for an extra month but the rep, named Vivian Vasquez, was one of the rudest women I have ever spoken with and she hung up on me. I tried to call back to make sure that my membership was cancelled, after waiting on hold for an hour, someone picked up and promptly hung up again. I have been going to Fitness Connection for nearly 7 years and after being treated like this, I will NEVER go back to a Fitness Connection gym. Very disappointing. Since moving to Raleigh, I frequent this location most often. Pros: Their best asset is the turf room - 4 squat racks, deadlifting space, kettle weights, trx, peg wall, and space for agility ladders, box jumps, and more. Cardio machines are everywhere. They even have extra cardio rooms on the bottom floor and top floor where they play movies. Also, the VIP membership ($20/month) have unlimited guest passes. Cons: There are not enough weights for the amount of people that actually come here. Downstairs there's barely enough plates for 4 to squat, let alone deadlift. There are only 2 deadlift platforms upstairs, which are unevenly tiled. Weights are usually all over the place so it's like an Easter egg hunt everyday. Pay close attention to busy hours, otherwise make do with the little space and equipment available to you. I'm not rating this gym as low as most people because this is what you should expect at large commercial gyms. read more

As Sade said, it's never as good as the first time.* The first time I went here I was thinking "Wow, what a great place! So big, so clean, so many machines!". The second time, I could see with a more patient eye that there were some slight cracks in the facade....busted equipment, worn out machines, some grungy corners. The third time, I was thinking "Ugh, this place is pretty gross". There were at least three broken treadmills, several ellipticals were missing their cup holders, the pads on two of the machines upstairs were worn and coming apart. I can't say enough great things about this gym!! It's clean, tons of new equipment, the trainers and staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and it's $10 A MONTH!! I really love coming here! It has all the equipment I need and then some including a huge rec area, movie theater room with bikes and elliptical (because they're quieter) a women's only workout space in case you're intimidated to go upstairs and the locker rooms are huge! My only wish is they'd get the steam room fixed in the women's locker room ;) but they do have a sauna as well! read more

Been going to this gym for about 7 years now. I wont leave because I know so many people that workout here but I think there are a few problems with this gym. 1. TOO MANY PEOPLE. If you guys are trying to keep signing people up to memberships with these crazy $0 down $10 a month deals, at least open more gyms to accommodate all the members. 2. Billing is always screwed up. Get charged late fees sometimes for no reason. 3. You guys are getting rid of all the good older equipment and replacing it with new cheap Hoist equipment. But at the end of the day I'll still recommend this gym to friends because I like the area and the atmosphere. read more

About six months ago when I was looking for a new gym I read the reviews here and was surprised they weren't higher. I really liked the idea of the location and the large amount of offerings at this gym, so I set up an appointment to go visit it and make up my mind for myself. Boy was I in for a wonderful experience. I love that the room with the cardio machines is huge, has the biggest fan I've ever seen, has lots of sunlight coming in, and a great variety of machines. Also I love the water aerobics classes, I just wish they had them consistently every morning. I also think the front desk folks are pleasant and willing to help if needed. I like the many weight training machines upstairs. They are clean, in working order and I've never come to the gym and had to wait for anything. All in all I do not think there is a better bang for your money that belonging here. read more

I came in with my friend so we could workout together and was told I had to pay become a member or pay $15 for a day pass. Shocked us both since I've been there once before with her. I asked could I just try out the gym since I'm already here and my friend (a member) nor I knew she couldn't bring a guess. I was rudely told by Noah (supposedly a manager) that if I wanted to workout I had to pay or I could just sign up for no enrollment fee. My friend suggest I sign up for the 3 day pass circulating the internet and when I told him I just signed up for it he responds, "you can sign up but I have to activate it and I won't be doing that". How do you expect me to sign up for a gym membership here and you are being obnoxiously rude? You can workout anywhere but it's the customer service that keeps people. I left feeling embarrassed and upset that I decided to workout with my friend here rather than at my gym. read more

It can get crowded if you come during peak times and the showers could use a little TLC but for what it is and what they charge its a great deal. They have lots of free weights and the classes that come with your membership are good. They just finished a brand new basketball court that is pretty nice and the kids club is brand new. I haven't had to deal with any of the billing nightmares but everything has seemed to be fine int hat department and them honoring what they promised me. read more

FC has done so much in the way of making the club more appealing and user friendly, from the club of 2 years ago. I've paid 160$ a month at a tennis club which had all the bells and whistles ie.Olympic pool etc , and 55$ a month for club with racquet ball .For the money I'll take Fitness Connection hands down its a strong 4 stars. One small caveat to my not rating 5 stars is pre covid the trainers with new members and staff did not enforce the cleaning / wiping down of the equipment after use. I signed a membership agreement here specifically for the pool. The pool has been closed for months. The staff led me on saying it "would be a few weeks", "opening soon". Now they say they don't know if the pool will open. All the equipment is dirty and some in disrepair. Go somewhere else, if you sign a contract - even though they lied about the pool, they make you pay. Time to find a lawyer. read more

This location is my favorite so far out of all the fitness connections. The gym has all the ammeneities you want including a pool. You never have to worry about the gym smelling because the chlorine smell from the pool illuminates the building lol. All the machines are up to date and they have classes all throughout the day. For those who want a more strenuous workout, they offer bootcamp classes for an $30/month. read more

I hate that this gym has such a low rating and I feel like it is mainly due to people who were already canceling and had issues with billing or with people who had negative experiences with corporate. A year or so ago I was pretty disheartened with the changes they had made to the schedule and instructors but thank goodness their corporate office has some sense and changed it back and the person who instituted all the changes is no longer employed there. It really is a great gym and I'll tell you why. I love the wide variety of classes and have never had a bad instructor. They're always personable and attentive and cater to classes to their clientele. The group fitness room is nice and much cleaner than in years past and they just installed new speakers! ONE COMPLAINT - YOU NEED MORE MATS! I The equipment on the floor is okay - some older but all in working order. Plenty of treadmills and good gym etiquette by the people who work out here. If you're a newbie of the Summer Bikini Season rush we welcome you but please do your part to keep the gym up. Re-rack your weights. Don't hog weights. Ask to work in if someone is on a machine you need as opposed to standing awkwardly aside waiting. Wipe down the machines when you're finished. In group fitness classes, get to classes on time or set up in the back of you have to come in a little late. Participate in classes by doing as the instructor directs instead of trying to do you own thing and set up in a space that will not impede your fellow fitness buddies (I.e. Not directly in front of or behind, give them room, ask if you're crowding them, etc). Don't try to come into a class before it's over so you can claim a spot for the next class. Just be patient - there's room for everyone. Probably the most important - have a good time. No one knows the routines the first time around. Do what you can and don't be embarrassed. Stay after and ask the instructor for pointers. I've found all the FC instructors to be super helpful and friendly - they really care about their students and want you to be successful. read more
