I've heard good things about this place and decided to give it a try with my favorite dining…read morepartner. It is located just on the outskirts of Sherwood. It has a nice sized parking lot. Inside it was clean, well lit and offered your typical rural, Wisconsin bar and grill feel. When we entered we were greeted and upon grabbing a seat, were able to quickly order an adult beverage. One thing I will say about their staff is they were all helpful and friendly throughout our visit. The menu offered a nice variety of appetizers and entrees. They had several specials listed for the evening. I had convinced myself to have a hamburger on this trip. I ordered a mushroom and Swiss; as did my dining partner. We also ordered some deep fried green beans. While both of our burgers tasted good and were cooked appropriately, we lamented the small portion of mushrooms on each of our burgers. The green beans were also good, but the order could have been a bit bigger for the price. Overall, it wasn't fancy but the food was good and the service was great. I'm sure we will try it again.

Where to start?! Well, the food was great, and the drinks were great, and the service was great,…read moreso... not much else to say! I'm just kidding, I always have more to say. ;) But, in fairness, it's a great little spot that's kind of tucked away about a block and a half off the main strip (College Blvd or whatever it's called). But, it's a hidden gem worth searching for! We were made aware of this place thanks to the kind woman working at our hotel. We were in town for a game at Lambeau, and we heard that there was a shuttle from Rookie's to the field, which we definitely wanted to make use of! (That's a whole other review, but let's just say, it was an experience I'll never forget, and one I would repeat in a heartbeat!) The crowd here was clearly Packers fans. But, in their defense, they didn't make us opposing team fans feel threatened or not welcomed. Quite the opposite! Once they realized we were going to be respectful of their place and their folks, they welcomed us! The food really is good, especially for the money. It's one of those rare inexpensive places left in this country, where a pretzel appetizer easily feeds a family of four! LOL! I wish there weren't just two of us, because we also ordered boneless wings and cheese curds! Everything was hot and fresh, and it all tasted great. The drinks were large, inexpensive, and cold. No complaints at all. The service was also really wonderful, with friendly staff and very efficient servers. Like I said, nobody gave us a lot of grief for being from out of town. But, we could tell right away, this was a "local spot" and for a very good reason. Locals and regulars definitely make up the customer base, but they keep coming back for all the other reasons provided: good food, good drinks, and very reasonable prices. Example: I offered to buy a beverage for a very nice person who was incredibly helpful to us, specifically in arranging our spots on the shuttle bus. She was drinking a rail Old Fashioned. You know what that cost me? $3.50. That's not a South Park reference. That was what I paid for a rail cocktail! Anyway... if I'm ever in Appleton again, I'm stopping by. This really is a diamond in the rough, and one well worth your time in searching for.

A Mixed Experience - Good Food, but a Dealbreaker for Me…read more I want to start by saying the food here is genuinely good -- hearty portions, well-prepared, and clearly made with care. The building itself has a unique, historic charm, and the atmosphere inside feels like you've stepped into a different era. Service was friendly, and I can see why many locals enjoy it. That said, I've chosen not to return, and here's why: there's a Confederate flag displayed on the sign outside. For me, that symbol represents a legacy of division and oppression that I can't look past -- especially in a state that fought for the Union during the Civil War. It's a personal choice, but I believe it matters. If the flag weren't there, this would probably be one of my favorite local spots. I hope this feedback is taken in the spirit it's intended -- not to cancel or attack, but to be honest about why some potential customers like me won't feel comfortable coming back.
