Employees are typical arrogant good-ol-boys that think they know what they're talking about (even when they're hysterically incorrect) and seem to enjoy speaking down to customers to puff up their already inflated egos. First of all, there is a sign on the door that clearly states that guns ARE allowed in the store. When I asked about the reviews I was told the original no guns policy was directed towards people who were perhaps carrying in antiques etc for the gunsmith and may need to be reminded to check their guns. The employees informed me this was never intended for legal carry weapons. They also informed me that concealed carry courses are even taught on the premises. The shop is very well organized and carries everything from tools to firearms. I was greeted by the two ladies working the counter when I walked in and was immediately asked if I needed any help with anything. I chose to browse, but when the employees saw me looking at the handgun rack behind the counter they immediately came to me offering assistance and allowed me to ask several questions and handle multiple firearms. I asked about a certain ammo and was informed they did not carry it, but was told it could and would be ordered and I left my number for pick up at a later date. Prices seem fair and the selection was surprisingly good given the location, which I thought would be sparse at best. I'm not sure how so many people rate this place poorly, but I will be a return patron in the future.

No matter if you are in Kilmarnock, King George or even the middle peninsula this place is worth the drive to check out. It's a family store not just a bait and tackle shop but don't let that fool you. These folks know fishing, know their gear and know what the fish are biting. Huge selection of fishing gear and tackle with top brands available. Whatever the fish are biting on at that particular point in the season RW's has it. Live, fresh or artificial bait and lures are available. There is a hunting section that is smaller than the fishing side but has a good selection of decent gear as well. They carry boating equipment and supplies with the exception of high end electronics. Need a big friggin anchor or a mooring point? They have them, dock ladder? They have them too. Need trailer parts? Yep, got them too. I've been to RW's a couple of dozen times and there are still places in the store I haven't had a chance to see yet. Not just for fishing, hunting and boating, they have a nice election of Ladies, men's and kids summer clothing (mostly shirts and shorts) and the best selection of "riverware" on The Neck. Visiting friends in the NN and want to give them a nice gift for their house or cabin? Check out RW's. Great selection, good prices and friendly helpful staff.

The spacious counter is conveniently located in the center of the store. It's staffed with a plentiful number of knowledgeable employees who are both friendly & helpful. Our quest for the day was for a Norfolk City Permit for my sister's new kayak. Although the Lake Smith/Lake Lawson Natural Area is in & maintained by Virginia Beach, the waterway winding through it is owned by Norfolk & requires a permit. It's far more convenient than applying for one on line & having to wait for the stickers to come. The second purchase was to buy a new CG approved life jacket since my friend in CG reserves told me they were monitoring kayakers after recent accidents. Her previous use of my life jackets from the boat I sold was to use them as back rests. No can do anymore!! They had a supply but none that fit my sister. So we left with only the City of Norfolk boat (kayak) license & sticker. It's a convenient & a valuable resource for us to be able to obtain the permit quickly and close. The same can also be said for fishermen & those who frequent the nearby waterways, inlets & the Chesapeake Bay.

So when I learned they had a store much closer to me I had to shop them with an agenda of purchasing a new vest. The store is located in Merchants Square and replaced was a long standing independent that was beloved, "The Craft House". That part is sad to learn. The sales lady Ally was over the top friendly when I initially called to ask about their brands and inventory of vest. They carry Duck Head which I was specifically looking at. She held a few sizes for me with low inventory. When I came in she knew who I was and pulled the two out to try on. The sizing chart for the Fremont style vest had me in a Large. They calculate weight and chest size. It was correct. Unfortunately no sales on this luxury brand. I browsed the store and found more and more to purchase for myself and gifts. The Cotopaxi backpack for my daughter heading to Europe this Spring seemed perfect. I'm draw to quality and they had all the best brands for outdoors. I also looked at a Patagonia coat and Vuori pants. Unfortunately not my size. I also looked at their socks and shoes. Love that they offer Feetures socks a total favorite. Also Blundstone shoes from Australia. Checkout of all my items was smooth on a card. My items have a generous return policy of 30 days. I will absolutely return again in the coming year. If there is one negative it's the price point.

I like it and I hate everything pretty much.
