    ready-to-eat BLUEFIN TUNA poke

clams, mussels, and oysters, alive alive-o ... this time of year (mid august) there are big coolers of live sea urchins and crabs and counters with ziplock bags of sea bass, thresher, bluefin, yellowtail, and halibut. there's a variety of whole fish (rockfish, sheepshead, and halibut and a bunch more I didn't immediately recognize) to take home for the grill or steamer and a filet station where you can get your "catch" prepped and kitchen ready. my last stop's to grab a container or two of ceviche or poke or both for the family to snack on while whatever else I pick up finishes cooking. everything's fresh. most everything's local. if you ask for salmon (or worse yet tilapia) expect to get firmly but respectfully bitch slapped. cut out downline retailers and middlemen. support local fishermen.

New fish market at the Oceanside Harbor. Starting 4/28/24, open on Sundays from 8a-2p or whenever sold out. Fresh fish caught by local fishermen that day. Park at 401 Riverside lot and walk under the tunnel.

Our server (Chuy) was great. Very attentive but not overbearing. We started with a few apps. Crab cakes - yes, coconut shrimp - yes, calamari - meh...they're strips and were decent but no actual cocktail sauce which I think would have been nice to add. I got the pan seared Black Sea bass w/ a couple scallops. I was excited for the bass and it was good but honestly it was slightly dry. The scallops were delicious. Wasabi garlic mashed potatoes - couldn't taste wasabi or garlic. - the table tasted and agreed. Not a big deal but just saying Hahha. Anyway, always worth coming for a meal. The host, Chris, told us to sit where we wanted, then he kindly moved my walker out of the way. Very soon our server, Oracio, came with menus and to take our beverage orders. Too many times we have to wait, but our drinks were delivered quickly. We chose one of their local craft beer offerings. Then he gave us a perfect length of time to study our menus and order. Then our dinners arrived, also quickly. As we ate, there was the nice bonus of a beautiful sunset -- with no pressure to turn the table. If you go here on a Tuesday or Friday, ask for Oracio. The food and beverages, and the ambience were all great, and the excellent service tied the whole experience together. We'll definitely come back.

Our recent visit was marred from the outset by an immediate sense of unease, compounded by a significant delay before any staff member acknowledged our presence. Upon Santana's eventual approach as our server, his demeanor was overtly rude and dismissive, setting an unwelcome precedent for the remainder of our interaction. When we politely requested additional baskets of chips, a common and innocent enjoyment, Santana responded with an incredibly unprofessional and sarcastic remark, suggesting we were "only there to eat the chips." He then audaciously added, "when I came back over here you guys better have eaten all the chips." This was not perceived as humorous but as an intentional slight, creating an immediate atmosphere of discomfort and disrespect. The situation further deteriorated when my simple drink order, a piña colada, was served conspicuously missing its customary whipped cream and cherry garnishes. When I politely inquired about their absence, Santana flippantly declared he had deliberately omitted them because the drink was "not cold." This arbitrary and unsolicited decision, made without any consultation, was profoundly unprofessional. He then grudgingly presented the garnishes in a separate bowl, forcing me to awkwardly assemble my own drink, which inevitably led to a messy and unappealing outcome. My subsequent suggestion for the drink to be remade or presented correctly was met with immediate and profound disrespect. Santana repeatedly and condescendingly asserted, "all you care about is presentation," completely trivializing my valid concern for a properly served beverage. The escalating hostility from Santana prompted my husband to calmly intervene, seeking to understand the inexplicable difficulty in receiving a correctly prepared and presented drink. To our absolute horror and disbelief, Santana's response to this composed inquiry was not merely disrespectful, but an egregious act of aggression: he hurled racial slurs directly at my husband. This reprehensible and vile outburst instantly transformed a negative dining experience into an intolerable and deeply traumatizing ordeal, demonstrating a complete abandonment of professional conduct and basic human decency. Overwhelmed by shock and disgust at Santana's abhorrent behavior, we found ourselves compelled to immediately vacate your premises, abandoning any thought of ordering food. This profoundly disturbing encounter stands in stark contrast to the exemplary service and welcoming ambiance we have consistently enjoyed at your Old Town establishment, highlighting a stark discrepancy in the quality of experience. Such reprehensible conduct by a service professional is not only inexcusable but severely damages the reputation and integrity of your brand. We trust you will treat this incident with the utmost seriousness it deserves.

They have these "app only" deals but here's the kicker - the store has no service! so tonight I'm standing online holding up the entire line trying to get this app to show me the deal on broccoli so I don't have to pay $10 for broccoli... everyone behind me is aggravated and rightfully so! Like human beings are not stressed out enough now we have to deal with this? The cashier is just standing there... finally he gave up when he saw that I wasn't just gonna give up and pay full price and just scanned the barcode for me and I just looked at him like sir, You had the barcode this whole time and you had me here fighting with an app holding up the line pissing everyone off like, are you for real? I've been saying I'm going to do this for a long time but tonight I finally had enough. I'm going home to research and invest in a meat box, a vegetable box, looking up all my local farmers markets and probably going to re-join thrive market because I just cannot with this place anymore. That's how sick to death I am of them. I hope AI takes all your jobs!
