My wife and I stayed for three days and slept better than we have in years…read more Kind of like staying at your grandmother's country house this was nice and rustic and incredibly peaceful. Five stars for everything including perfect, honest descriptions on the website. Helped me find exactly what I was looking for. Full kitchen and nice A/C. Updated bathroom with nice shower. There is a TV with digital broadcast and a dvd player. New where it needs to be and antique where it should be. Our stay was serene amongst old farm buildings, a creek, small ponds and lots of wildlife. Nearest neighbors are acres away including a local cop (we heard) and a couple of farmers. Mineola is about 10 minutes away and filled our weekend with restaurants and small town shopping. We also hit Winnsboro, TX about 30 minutes away to view some of our old family's residences from back in the day. Being in the event business, I could appreciate how the proprietor took one of the large barns and turned it into an open air special event facility with lighting, small stage, bar, picnic area and a clean smooth new floor for catering, weddings, concerts and reunions. If I lived in that area, I would use the heck out of it. The coordinator or the guest of honor and family could stay on site in the cottage while the rest of the party could stay in town at the ever expanding group of hotels. I think it would be cool to tent camp with some other couples out here with the cottage as home base. (haven't asked the owner yet.)

From the owner: Located on 58 private acres in Mineola just north of town, This restored farm home sleeps up to 4…read more Furnished with a close attention to details, the artifacts, furniture and art will send you back to earlier days in East Texas, but with modern conveniences like full electric kitchen, central Heat and Air and flat panel TV's. Mineola offers great restaurants and over 100 antique dealers throughout many shops and malls. Close to Canton First Mondays and Lake Fork. Multiple original farm buildings make up "Homestead Farms", including a large party barn available for weddings, family picnics and other events. Several small farm ponds for catch and release fishing. Cattle roam the surrounding pastures.

Spent the night at this La Quinta last week, and thoroughly enjoyed it…read more Check-in went very smoothly, despite my making the reservation all of five minutes before I arrived. I was placed on the third floor, which wasn't a problem as the elevator worked just fine. I was handed a set of towels because apparently in their records towels had not been placed in the room, but when I got there I saw that there were plenty of towels already there. No problem... just meant I had spares. Everything was clean and tidy inside, the bed was very comfortable for the night, and I slept well. In the morning the continental breakfast was decent, not crowded, and enjoyable. If I am passing through Sulphur Springs again and need a place to stay, the La Quinta will be my choice next time.

Front desk - upon entering - would not honor my booking.com reservation request. After I sent…read moreseveral messages requesting they change my reservation to today, they said they never received any messages from my booking agent. But all that is on the booking agent screen. The booking agent helped by calling the motel to confirm the cancelation. The motel clerk and manager both said they can't do anything to cancel or modify the reservation. Military discount given was 50 cents less than the booking.com reservation - 50 cents. Is that really a discount or just pennies given so they can say they give a military discount? Also I was quoted a price that was $15 more than my reservation. The manager told me that was today's (Monday) price. He made me go on the computer to show him the price I had reserved. Even when I showed him, he made me go on by booking TODAY to show TODAY's price. I did and then he offered the 50 cent reduction. All of this required computer work to try to show our reservation etc. only made my vertigo worse and I about fell over in the front. I just wanted to get to a motel room to rest. Come to find out, they could have made it simple all along. Parking for military - we saw one sign with one parking slot. Were the military really honored? I was so sick - vertigo. After 8 days on the road, we just needed some help/compassion. All we got was told there was nothing they could do. I'm so thankful booking.com took care of it for us by calling the motel. Besides all that - the one chair in the room hurt my back and the bed reminds me of the one in our RV as it seems to be well used and old - the saggy kind - and it makes knocking noises when you move. The pool had lots of mud from the working men who came in I guess. There were bugs in the pool all floating on top. Being exhausted, the last thing a guest wants is to be all uptight because the owner/manager/front desk people made things hard. According to the booking agent, they could have honored our request quickly and simply but they chose not to. That only added to my stress. We have traveled 2000 miles in 8 days and this is the last motel we have to stay in before we get home. I was hoping for a peaceful and relaxing evening. That did not happen.
