Hi, hello, I don't understand the rating for this place because I look forward to eating here every single year my family comes to San Clemente. This spot is basically the "snack shack" on the pier in San Clemente. Our family usually sets up shop on the beach near T-street, but we make the walk over here to grab lunch every day on the beach. The lines sometimes can be a little long, but they go pretty quickly. And ice cream has become such a hot commodity here that they have a separate pickup spot for ice cream. They also have plenty of seating (none in the shade though) so you can either eat your food there or you can take it with you to-go. I always order the cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger honestly reminds me of in-n-out and honestly, nothing better than a cheeseburger at the beach! I also LOVE their soft serve ice cream in a cone. I mean, it's $3! And they always stack it. I usually get the chocolate and vanilla swirl. This past time we went, they didn't do the best job in swirling them so I wasn't able to get a photo, but I have gotten good pics of them in the past. Seriously, nothing better than soft serve ice cream on the beach. Like I said, my family and I have been coming here for yeaaaars and it's one of our must-do things.

**NOTE - some of the menu photos that are posted by other Yelpers, are for the other side, not the Galley. If The Fisherman's Restaurant & Bar is at the top of the menu, you are looking at the wrong one. My family and I have dined at their other restaurant multiple times. They're literally right across from each other and we love the food. The Fisherman's Galley is more casual (not that the other side is formal) foodwise and is more like bar food. This is the side that houses that restrooms for both restaurants. It also has the bar. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with a view at either place. It's just a beautiful location anytime you need to grab a bite to eat. A few days ago, we decided to dine at Fisherman's Galley since we were a larger party this time around. Prices are just a little less but if you see the portions, the prices may be a bit too much for what you pay. The staff was friendly, they always are. I'll list what we ordered in a bit. Our food took forever to come out which was frustrating because nobody was talking to us to let us know. Eventually someone did apologize for the wait, and then we waited another 10 minutes after that. I am not sure if long waiting periods for your food is a thing at this location. It was our first time so I can't compare to prior visits. I kept asking for **ice water** but kept getting topped off with room temperature instead. Maybe she didn't know that the water wasn't cold anymore? I don't know. What we ordered: 1) calamari strips $20 - this was a 3/5 for us and a small portion. 2) fish & chips $19 - I THINK there was either 3 or 4 strips. We liked this one. 3) Caesar salad - $16 - this was a large portion which I shared with two other people as an appetizer. This was tossed with parmesan, croutons, tomato, egg & anchovies. Nothing special. 4) kids grilled cheese - came with fries 5) New England clam chowder - $10 - This was very salty. You have to eat it with bread or those oyster crackers for sure, just to get tone it down a bit. We've ordered the chowder from the other side which is also salty. I don't know why we keep ordering it honestly. Each time we've had the clam chowder, it has been over seasoned with salt. I guess we're just a sucker for clam chowder and hope that the next bowl will be better. Would I dine at the Galley again? Probably not. I think our family will stick to the Fisherman's Restaurant & Bar instead. We were always happy with our food at the other side.

Located across from the pier in San Clemente and right off the bike/walking trail is the more accessible and budget friendly Fisherman's Galley. The Fisherman's Restaurant and Bar is on the pier and offers a more extensive menu. The Galley has fish and chips, burgers, salads etc. We needed a good quick family spot after a long bike ride, and wanted those ocean views. We opted for the Galley. Good prices and decent portions. We ordered two orders of the fish and chips (3 piece) and a garden salad. Love fish and chips with a view and the Galley's were yummy. Not too much breading or too greasy. Fries were average. Salad was fresh and tasty. To top things off, they offer $3 soft serve ice cream cones in a waffle cone. They are huge. My boys were in heaven. A good spot for a quick tasty meal . Will return! B

Had a great time at Fisherman today. The weather was perfect. They brought an umbrella over to block the sun. The food and drinks were amazing but we had to stop because we had to ride our bikes home!

First time here and got the filet mignon, halibut and chicken fettuccine. Service was very good. The food was so delicious. The vibe was amazing and loved that we could see the sunset on the ocean. We will be back again..

Veggie burger for $5 can't be beat. Quick and friendly service. I asked for no onion and no cheese and they got it right even though they had several orders at once. They got a good system going back there. Looks like the summer job spot. You're all awesome. Thanks y'all!

Best Valentines dinner the food was delicious and great portions. The seating was very warm with the heaters and clear plaques that covered your body from the wind. But it was ambience, lemon drop martinis and my date that did it for me.

This is an average, good restaurant. The pricing and portions aren't stellar nor horrible, given that this is located in a more tourist designed area. If you are on the cusp of breakfast and lunch and come around 10am or so, you might ask your waiter/waitress if you could put in an order from the lunch menu if you're not vibing the breakfast menu. When you look at the price and selection, you'll end up finding that the lunch menu is a better deal given it's a seafood restaurant and you can get waffles, eggs, omelets, etc. anywhere, but good fresh seafood is what people come here for. It's located near the metro train station, so is convenient in this quaint little town. The service, although friendly, can be inherently neglectful both being proactive as well as to flag-down, mainly because they're busy more so than rude or with attitude. I'd recommend this place for lunch and I'd love to come back for dinner.

The Boulder and I rolled in on a suspiciously perfect Monday afternoon--clear skies, good vibes,…read moreand my dog in tow (a true critic.. of me). My tall Sequoia of a date did the classic awkward shuffle at the front like, "hi, can the dog come through to the patio without causing a federal incident?" The guy we asked looked like we had just asked him to solve climate change (bc he was a customer...), but he very politely redirected us to the cashier, who was lovely. So: Kindness: 10/10. Confusion: also 10/10. ~Balance~ Now the food. The Boulder orders a fish burrito. I go for the chimichurri salmon bowl with quinoa because I, too, enjoy pretending I have my life together. BUT. The boulder also then orders clam chowder--a surprise, a moment of elation, but at the same time... skeptical? Sir? I have lamented over my favorite chowder like a woman waiting for her husband to come back from battle. Were your ears too high in elevation for my voice to reach? ANYWAYS. Let's talk about the clam chowder, because this is where things get serious. I have grown up eating clam chowder in Santa Cruz (my hometown, my birthplace, my origins). I have known greatness (shoutout to Stagnaro Bros., the downstairs fish market). So when I tell you I approached this chowder with standards, I need you to understand the weight of that statement. I put my spoon in. It did not sink. At that moment, I knew. This was not soup. This was a lifestyle. A structural entity. And it was GOOD. Creamy, thick, unapologetically clam-forward. Not quite Santa Cruz enlightenment, clouds-parting-angels-singing, but honestly? Strong contender. We're talking solid top 4-5 chowders of my life, and I do not say that lightly. Now, my salmon bowl? Good. Respectable. Salmon = crispy, quinoa = doing quinoa things (why is it always slightly annoying to eat??). Chimichurri good. The fish burrito (from my observational research + dog validation panel): packed, flaky, generous. My dog approved, which frankly is the highest honor available. Overall: Great food, great vibes, excellent chowder, and quality time with the Tall Sequoia Boulder Man™ on a random Monday. Plus points--chips looked fried on site :D

Nick's hostess called me an hour before to confirm which was comforting. There is street parking which can be challenging as in any coastal community. I believe there is a close by public parking lot. The hostess was very welcoming and sat us right away. A.J. was an awesome waiter. He did not rush us and checked on us regularly and kept our water glasses full. Between the four of us we ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, three fresh Mahi Mahi blackened fish sandwiches. There are many side choices. We had the very yummy crispy fries and the tomatoes with blue cheese - so good. The sandwich and side was a huge portion. I had to eat it deconstructed as it was piled high with blackened fish, coleslaw, tomato, onion rings, fresh micro greens, tartar sauce all on a fresh grilled brioche bun. The sliced prime rib French dip was a home-run. The roll was toasted yet soft. The prime rib tender and flavorful served with Au jus (good enough to eat with a spoon or sip from the bowl). AJ made sure we had plenty of ketchup and ranch for the fries and creamed horseradish for the dip sandwich. My father was given a dreamy chocolate cake and card signed by everyone to celebrate his birthday. The dreamy cake was moist filled with chocolate chips and covered it a to-die-for chocolate ganache. We had an 11:15 reservation and the large restaurant and bar was filled up by noon. There were many celebrations going on around our table.
