We asked Dave to organize a helicopter fishing trip for a group of us last summer stuck at a lodge…read morethat had poor fishing conditions. He was happy to do it short notice. When he billed us, we understood why. Other than booking the chopper and coming on the trip himself and perhaps baiting a couple of hooks, he provided zero services. No food, no drinks, nothing. The guides from our camp came along with us at our cost and provided most of the services. The trip started around 8 am and was over by 2 or 3. We expected to pay him a guide fee and cover the cost of the chopper's hourly rate. Total flight time was 7.3 hours, which I verified with the pilot. In the end, when Dave sent the bill, he charged a guide fee of $1,100 and then padded the chopper bill by almost two flight hours to 9.2 hours. Chopper rate was $725/hour. Challenged about this billing, Dave flew into a rage and said that his guide rate was, in fact, $295/person/day ($3,245 for our group, most of whom had literally not even seen him that day or gotten an iota of service from him) plus the flight time, and he would be happy to change the bill to reflect that rate instead of padding the hours, which he said had only done to "save on taxes." I'm not making this up - all of this was in writing, so it's no exaggeration. Bottom line: if you do anything with Dave Fish Alaska, hold your wallet. You're dealing with a dishonest guy who will fleece you if he can.

During our visit to the Talkeetna area there were wildfires burning, we were unable to make it to the meeting area but Fred and his helper Rich came to the hotel and picked us up so we wouldn't miss out on the fun. He first took us to a secluded spot by a river where the salmon were literally swimming between our feet. We could have reached down and scooped them up, but we were there to learn how to fly fish, so learn we did! Fred was extremely patient with me and my husband....and our limited fishing abilities! He came supplied with everything you could need or want during the tour. The waders fit perfectly, and kept us warm in the glacier water. While driving to our second fishing spot he supplied yummy croissant sandwiches to snack on during the ride. The second fishing spot had just as many salmon and we were able to catch quite a few fish. I had a beautiful trout on my line but unfortunately I didn't snag him and he got off the hook. I was bummed, but Fred is so encouraging before I knew it I had a huge salmon on the line and brought it in successfully. While we enjoyed fishing Rich cooked up some salmon by the shore along with vodka tonic and rum and cokes. We took a break to enjoy a perfect meal of deliciously cooked salmon and a nice cocktail. It was seriously a perfect day, despite the wildfires in area. I just hope that Rich and Fred's property were not impacted. If I am ever back in the area, this would be the first tour I book. It was a great experience and a super fun day!! Thank you Fred and Rich for making this the highlight of our trip!

Had a delicious lunch and drinks and caught fish all afternoon. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. The spot Fred took us the fish were jumping out of the water right before our eyes. As the sun started to go down it was impossible not to catch a fish. We even ate our fresh fish on the beach. We were celebrating my Mom's 60th Birthday and Fred made it an extra special day. My brother is already wanting to make another Alaska trip next year just to fish with Fred!

The aircraft is a piston powered beaver and not as capable as the turboprop aircraft of other tour companies, so if you want to land on a glacier, go elsewhere. I called early in the morning and let it be known that I wanted a flight on one of two days, time didn't matter. I was contacted a couple of hours later to let me know I could join three others on a flight at 4 pm. Yay! The ground crew (sorry didn't get names) were very helpful and supplied dark sunglasses and overshoes (the glacier landing was a bit mushy for my tennis shoes). Chris gave a great safety briefing and we were off. They don't fly if the weather is hiding all of the mountains and glaciers. We had some clouds, which I think added some mystery to the sights. The small Beaver plane had room for 5 plus the pilot (you got to let him com) but ther were only 4. I got the back seat so I could see out both sides. The plane was clean and the flight was generally smooth. The pictures just can't do justice to the amazing views and the scale of the mountains and glaciers.

The entire experience was well-organized, smooth, and unforgettable from start to finish. A special thank you to Lindsey, who did a fantastic job providing clear, helpful information and putting together our itinerary. Everything was easy to follow and stress-free because of her attention to detail. And huge kudos to Hannah, our musher -- she was absolutely awesome! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and very professional throughout the ride. You could genuinely see how much she loves her dogs... and how much they love her right back. That made the whole experience feel even more special and authentic. They have everything you'll need to keep you warm from suits, gloves, and shoes... AND you will also get to see the cute puppies! If you're considering dog sledding, I highly recommend Snowhook Adventures. It was an amazing, memorable adventure!

The shuttle took a little longer than expected to pick everyone up, so my tour was delayed slightly, but they made it up. Other guests that came with us were staying for several nights and doing a snowmobile tour (in addition to the dogsled tour). They were going to start off with lunch, but I hadn't booked lunch as part of my package and they were still able to accommodate me. We had a Cordon bleu grilled cheese and potato wedges, which was prepared by a Michelin star chef. It was an authentic experience to have guides that actually were in the Iditarod! Dog sledding was just fun in general and was great to actually meet the dogs beforehand. They also let you borrow any outdoor gear you might need. Overall, we were there for about 3 hours. 2025 #24
