Came to this hidden taco spot with my mom for a late lunch. They have a bunch of taco options - including a few seafood ones and one veggie. We got the blackened fish tacos and the shrimp tacos. Each order gets two tacos. You can choose to get a salad or rice and beans as a side. We tried them both. Both of the taco types were very fresh and tasty. They weren't spicy at all - which I personally liked, but they were a bit bland for my mom's taste.. As for the sides, the side salad was much better than the average side salad. I would recommend choosing that option. The rice and beans were decent, but nothing to write home about. Service was fast and the people working there were all very friendly. We were greeted by the Mexican anthem, Stand By Me. As the words of the song began I was instantly taken back to my gap year in Mexico. "When the lights go down in the cité". the ambience was quaint, with interesting light fixtures, but another customer had a head that was so disturbingly small that I have to remove a star on principle. The tv was playing soccer, which I believe is a metaphor for the horrors of European imperialism. the tacos were authentic tasting, although they were served with lemons, or limones, that weren't ripe, a delicacy in the beautiful city of chalupa. the food was quite messy, but luckily there were napkins, or napkins as they're known in Mexico, on every table. One of the best places to get a great tasting fish taco. Prices is on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. The fish doesn't smell or taste weird. The fish burritos are huge and filling. the blackened fish taco are quite yummy. I also grabbed a chicken rice bowl that was delicious. the black beans and rice or salad choice for the entrees are standard fare and nothing special. The elote charred corn is quite good but i think they sometimes over charr the corn and it's all black (not to my liking). outdoor seating is very relaxing and enjoyable, unfortunately your literally sitting next to the cars in the tiny parking lot. read more

This place definitely hits the spot after a morning of hiking! It's nestled in a strip mall, and parking seemed like it could get a bit hectic. When we arrived, it was on the busier side, as there was a line to order, but I guess people were also leaving at that time, so we were able to snag a table outside. You order at the counter, and they bring the food out to you. I think that they will seat you if you sit inside, but outside is first-come, first-serve seating. I ordered the blackened fish tacos, side of guac for the table to share, and a frozen margarita. The frozen marg was a bit on the bland side, but it was refreshing just to have something cold after being out in the sun all morning. The fish tacos were good. Great? Not quite, but solid. I thought they could have upped the seasoning (or spice level?) a bit in the sauce or the seasoning on the fish, but they also had bottle of hot sauce on the table, so I also could have added some of that to add additional umph. I love this location, usually can find parking and a table even when it's really crowded. Usually get the fish tacos which are phenomenal but yesterday I just thought it was time to try something new and got the Barbacoa bowl. I was definitely not disappointed. My first time coming here and I am happy to have came. I ordered the blackened fish taco platter with rice and beans. This place was cute and clean and the service was friendly. I made a mistake and added the small bottle of hot sauce on my taco because the big bottle wasn't hot to me. Boy O Boy, it had my whole face on fiyah!... My nostrils was burning and I was sniffing and sniffing and sniffing, while my eyes welled up with tears and my tongue wanted to dip in a pool of water... lol I'm soo glad they had a free water cooler. I like the food and will come back to try more dishes WITHOUT the little bottle of hot sauce.. lol read more

This place is unpretentious but the food was simple and executed quickly. Carnitas taco platter came with 2 tacos, white rice and beans. The tacos were excellent. The rice and beans was nothing to write home about and, frankly, I would not order it again. The rice was not great and the beans seemed right out of a can. We tried all of the taco flavors. They were all well executed and we appreciated the use of different sauces to complement the different meats. Overall, if you stick to the tacos, I would recommend it. read more

I have been coming to Fish Taco a few times a week for the last month and will never return after my experience at lunch today. I ordered the charred corn pico and avocado quesadilla and had to repeat my order 4 times only to be corrected and informed what I'm ordering is actually the "vegetable quesadilla". But that's not what it says on the menu? Anyways, after ordering, my food was delivered to my table promptly. I noticed something that looked like meat in my quesadilla, so I pulled it apart to find chicken. The food runner noticed my confusion and quickly took my plate away, apologized and brought over my veggie quesadilla. Then, the runner he waited two minutes and took the chicken quesadilla to the correct patron! The quesadilla I had been inspecting and picking apart with my UNWASHED TOTAL STRANGER HANDS! I am so bummed this happened. I love the food here and the in-house dining experience is very pleasant, but this kind of blatantly lazy and dangerous service is unacceptable. read more

My opinions is that their prices are just too expensive for fast casual and not much difference in taste/quality from chain fast casual taco places. But hey this is in the Potomac so it's par for the course. For shrimp tacos (2 tacos, rice with black beans), signature fish tacos (2 tacos, rice with black beans, kids cheese quesadilla, 2 draft beers, can of coke and bottled water =$50.00 roughly. It wasn't like the shrimp was big high quality .. they were the equivalent of the small overcooked ones served at the fast casual place with B F initials. Register person was not friendly and when I tried to add grilled fish in lieu of fried Tilapia, yeah wanted to charge me five dollars extra. The fried flounder was overly battered and very little fish. The chips and salsa were great. The house salad was great. I think the type of food it's very pricey and very little substance with regard to the steak chicken or fish that is being served. Small portions. These are same people that own Food and Wine Co in Bethesda and it has in common with that restaurant, mediocre and over-priced. We came in about 6 on Friday night, place was about half-full. There are two registers but one cashier was MIA for a while and the manager didn't fill in. Neither spoke English very well and when I tried to get double beans instead of beans and rice, I got a half-full bowl of beans, probably about 4 ounces with my two fish tacos. Oh, and the beans were room temperature so we had to send them back. The tacos were no better than you could get off a truck somewhere for 3 bucks a piece except that they were $11 for a pair and the cold beans. So, two beers, chips and salsa, two orders of tacos, $41. It seems that restaurant people think that in a good zip code you can charge what you want and people will pay it. Notice all the glowing reviews are from friends of the owners that probably didn't pay for dinner. Leave it alone and find a food truck. read more

He is more interested in pushing the quantity of food than delivering a decent experience. Hopefully this will prove to be a onetime experience. I ordered the chicken bowl with chips and Guacamole. Chips were still warm had just the right snap, the Guacamolé, was amazing! No to salty, just the right amount of everything, decently sized portion! I went to sit down and not but 2 minutes later the food came out! Hot and ready. The bowl was on point! Chicken was amazing! Fish Taco is the best dining establishment in the Cabin John area. Now, given the paucity of choices in this neck of the woods, it's not exactly up against stiff competition, but it deserves acclaim on its own merits. The quality, freshness, and consistency of the food are all excellent. The blackened fish taco, shrimp taco, and guacamole deserve special mention for being especially delicious. Their kids' platters are also great, coming with rice, beans, choice of meat, and a small fruit cup. They have continuously fine-tuned the menu (thanks for the recent addition of queso!), and their service is friendly and efficient. This feat is all the more impressive given they are often packed and juggling numerous dine-in and phone orders. Really outstanding place. read more

So I want to start by saying i thoroughly enjoyed my lunch experience today. I wanted to give this rating a five-star but after reading the other reviews, I do have to agree, their service leaves something to be desired. It seems they are focused on the establishment and the food, and it stops there. I wanted to order three tacos and they said they don't do a la carte...? Why? Its not like its not possible? I guess they don't want to make more money... But the food tho..... I've been wanting a good fish taco for a while and a coworker of mine kept harping a bout this place that is 30 minutes away (who wants to drive 30 minutes for lunch!?) But after a few months we decided to heed his advice and go. It was so worth it! I ordered the corn/cream corn on the cob concoction for an appetizer and the signature tacos with a salad for lunch. They were one of the best fish tacos i've ever had! They fish was generously sized, although the tacos themselves are not the biggest, they make up for that in taste. The corn on the cob appetizer was AMAZING!!! I seriously was going to order my entire lunch over again, so I could eat it tonight for dinner . I loved it that much. I just moved back to the DC area after living in San Francisco for the past 8 years. Lot's of great taqueria's in San Fran so I was thrilled when Fish Taco Taqueria opened near me in Glen Echo. I have dined at FTT now 3 times and have had mixed experiences each time. Really love the decor it is comfortable with nice booths and outdoor seating. They had really good aqua fresca on the menu the first two times I went and then decided not to offer aqua fresca any longer. I hope they decide to bring it back! The fish tacos I had where good but over seasoned, the beef brisket tacos I had the first time where really delicious but the second time they where way to fatty. The corn on the cob was also over seasoned and over sauced. Great guacamole and chips! My son loves the quesadilla and they added a kids menu since they opened which we appreciated. Seems like they are still working out the kinks and from what I can tell there is a lot of potential. I am rooting for Fish Taco Taqueria to make it! read more

We were traveling through State up 95 and got hungry. Got off highway and found this place using the net. What a find. Interesting menu of burritos and tacos from what I can remember. This was a fast stop and eat so the menu is a little blurr. But we enjoyed the chicken burrito and cheese quesadilla. Only thing is, I wish the items in burrito were more evenly spread within. 3.5 Stars I always find it annoying when people write a review when a restaurant has been open a few days and proceed to trash it. Did you expect them to be Michelin Star Ready on day one? Yes you should be ready, but there are always hiccups. That said, the place has been open a few weeks and so I stopped in for a take out lunch. The inside is very nice and sort of reminds me a really nice chipotle, though much much nicer. The food is pretty reasonably priced. Those complaining about 2 tacos for $12...these tacos are far far bigger than your $1.50 taco at a food truck etc. Also, with rice and beans, it's a sizable meal. If that isn't enough food, you are probably eating too much. The rice bowls are huge as well and at $9, the pastor bowl is a bargain and delicious. The guacamole is fresh, but had a not so ripe avocado in ours. Ill pass on that next time. But the chips are quite tasty. Overall, this is a good place to grab some quick mexican. I don't know what has been happening with their food lately. It used to be so good, lots of meat in every meal. The last 3 times I placed a order through the phone for a quick pick up, the burrito had almost no meat and TONS of rice, it wasn't very filing without the protein. I miss Fish Taco's old times. Disappointed in my visit today at Fish Taco. Visited two times about a year ago & their food was so good it kept me wanting & craving for more. I finally gave into my cravings & visited them today but saddened the tacos were not good at all. I ordered the blackened fish tacos & my fish was sooo burnt & charred it was un eatable. May i add the fish was not seasoned it tasted bland. Since i was starving i had to remove the skin of the fish in order to finish the tacos. Great fast food Mexican. You order at the counter, they bring you your food on real ceramic plates. No plastic waste. Place is clean, staff is friendly. I would not know this place exist without living social. Environment: parking is somewhat limited ... If all the single spaces are taken then you have no choice but to park in the tandem spaces. Inside is nice and cozy, very welcoming. Food: I had the blackened tilapia taco and the husband had the brisket quesadilla. The fish itself was bland. I could not tell if the toppings that came with the tacos were salty or the rice and beans. Rice was soggy, if you know what I mean. The brisket was delicious. After a long hike in Great Falls, after you have worked up an appetite, head on over to this little strip mall, where you will find an organic co-op store, several quaint stores and this neighborhood gem! Highly recommend the grilled Mahi Mahi tacos. You will be presented with a ceramic plate of 2 delicious tacos, and a side of rice and beans. A little spiced mayo is drizzled over the tacos, which are fresh, tangy and leave you wanting just one more...! Ive never experienced such horrible customer service in my life. The manager/ owner was abusive and angry, screaming. The staff was rude. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I don't understand how they can act like this towards customers and still stay in business. If you look through the reviews you will see that this is a recurring theme. I guess if you don't have to ask for something different or as long as your order is correct there is no problem. I love this little Cabin John place, which is kind of like a souped-up Chipotle specializing in seafood tacos and quesadillas. Here's why: 1. It's fun to walk or bike there from Glen Echo Park. 2. The homemade guacamole and everything with ancho shrimp in it are air-hump delicious. 3. There are many healthy options, all prepared with actual thought. E.g., the cojita-chicken-kale caesar salad, which is delicious enough to be enjoyable, yet calorically virtuous enough that I feel no remorse pigging out on chips and guac. 4. The patio area is the perfect place to take your young kids out for dinner on a summer night. There are plenty of other families, and babies be screamin'...but they're not annoying anyone else, since everyone's outside the echo chamber of a dining room. 5. Prices are super reasonable, and portions are perfectly sized. So why am I only giving this place 4 stars? 1. No soda fountain 2. No soda fountain 3. No soda fountain. Etc. When we eat Mexican, we want a big, bottomless Diet Coke, or we are not amused. But everything else is almost good enough to make it worth settling for one dismal little can. read more
