Bread, Meat, Fish, Mexican food. My favourite stall is Posh Pickles who do jams from fruit from this country, mango chutney and all sorts of pickles. This month I bought Lemon Grass and Ginger Jelly. their Caribbean Marmalade is to die for. The man with the Mexican food stall, does gorgeous Cornbread. He saves a loaf for me each month, because my friend is alergic to wheat. The latest improvement is cornbread with sultanas in it. The bread stall has types of bread which I had never heard of. my favourite is her Walnut loaf, 2nd her Date bread. The meat is sourced from north Cumbria. Occasionally one of the local breweries bring a range of their bottled beers. Even if you don't buy much the market is fun to visit. I'll update this if the stalls change.

This is a tiny stall, tucked away next to The Crumbly Cheese (see my review on that if you like…read morecheese) Although small, the shop carries a wide range of fresh fish and they also stock ready frozen fish as well, ideal if want quality prawns in your freezer. The staff are great and will happily gut, scale and fillet fish to your requirements. They do tend to sell up, so if it is something in particular you require, then call there first and get your order in. The prices are reasonable for the quality of fish you are buying and it always fresh. Worth a visit if you enjoy good fish.

I make a special trip to Cleveleys for it if I'm putting fish on the menu. Recommended!

You can often tell just by observation that their fish hasn't been sat around for ages which is always a good indication it is fresh; there is nothing worse than the opposite. The fishmongers are more than willing to help if you need any advice or special requirements. Their knowledge and experience is priceless, so make sure you make the most out of your visit!

There is nothing like the smell of a fishmongers, it just hits you! B Shrigley and Son have a huge choice of fish products including cod, halibut, crab, lobster and oysters. No more frozen fish. The staff are very friendly and helpful (giving advice if you aren't too sure about different types of fish) and if you can't find what you want they are good at sourcing it (within reason and season).
After poking at the scraps at the local supermarket the other day I said to myself..I need to find…read morea fish monger! The closest one open to me was here. It's been a year since I set foot in the Arndale and longer still since bought anything from here so I was a but apprehensive. Circling around the counter like a shark I was super excited with their selection. Everything looked fresh and tasty despite what the negative comments say. We were served very quickly despite it starting to be quite busy and she was lovely. For £40 we walked away with 1kg of tuna sashimi, salmon sashimi, 180g of scallops, 5 rock oysters and 3 red snappers.. ..I usually spend that on sushi alone.. Overall staff were attentive, paid attention to hygiene i.e cleaning hands every time they touched a fishy, wore masks and had great produce. Yes I will be back after me any my kitties devour this stash.

Its closest competitor is the smaller but more quaint fishery in Didsbury, Evans Fish, but for me this place tops it through the sheer selection offered at excellent prices. When you enter the room, just alongside the Arndale Food Market, you will be literally astounded. There are literally hundreds of fish on offer. You may also be scared, as some of them are huge and have really scary faces. They have everything you can imagine from cod and haddock through sea bream and jon dory to trout and mackerel. Apart from the fish they have crabs, including some blue one with patterns on their backs worthy of an art gallery. They have prawns, ranging from the very tiny to the absolutely huge. One type of prawn is so big you would honestly only want one per person. They also have oysters, which are an alarming 85p per one. They have mussels. They even have cod roe and caviar. The prices are all unbelievable, often £2 per fish or three for a fiver. They also do 'fish pie mix' which has chunks of white fish, salmon and smoked fish in, for two quid or so. Basically if you like fish, this is the best place in the world.

I think that's the best way of seeing whether a chippy is decent or not. You always have to wait for your food but that is because everything is so fresh. The fish is always fresh and huge, the chips are gorgeous and on the one occasion I had a chicken kebab - nom! It was gorgeous. Fresh salad and good sauces. It's not over priced as some chippys are nowadays and the staff are always friendly. Highly recommended indeed

TL;DR - Great venue but a victim of its own success…read more Alty market set the tone for most of the food halls which you can now find across Manchester, and it remains one the biggest and best. The venue itself is gorgeous, with a craft market taking up half the building and a food hall in the other half. All the options at the food hall are great - you won't be disappointed. But the biggest issue we've always faced here is that it's so popular you can't always find a table. There's plenty of seating, it's just that the place is so popular it's always full which is frustrating if you've taken the trip to visit.
