We caught a boat limit of salmon before 8am.

Travis is a fantastic guide. Travis loves to fish and he is very motivated to get his boat limit. Travis provides everything you need for a fishing trip....waders, boots, fishing poles, life jackets. All we had to bring on the boat was our fishing license, sunscreen, bug spray, sun glasses, a small cooler with beverages and lunch. He knows exactly where on the river the fish are likely to be running and will bring you to them. He was excellent at instructing us how to fish. His boat was clean and well maintained. After we caught our limit of fish, Travis cleaned and filleted our fish for us. Once we got back to his shop, he vacuumed packed our fish. I highly recommend hiring Travis if you want to catch some fresh Alaska Salmon.

This Knik Glacier Tour was cool. It was fun. But...3 days ago I toured Matanuska Glacier and the…read moretwo experiences weren't close. The biggest reason why I much, much, more admired Matanuska Glacier is that I was able to hike onto the glacier and get up close and intimate moments among wonderful surroundings. Meanwhile, here at Knik Glacier, you're just transported just to the edge of the Knik River where the Knik Icefield is set in the backdrop. So...I wasn't fully able to capture this Knik Glacier in all its glory in comparison to Matanuska Glacier. I will say...when I zoomed in on my phone to take photos of the Knik Glacier Icefield area...the pics came out very well. But...when I wanted to put myself into the camera's lens...the moments weren't so fulfilling, and especially since I was coming off such a high at Matanuska Glacier. I'd say, ultimately, Knik Glacier had a lot to live up to from what I had experienced just a few short days ago. Still, no problem, I very much liked my time here. I enjoyed the 3-hour tour I took. Only thing, upon now reflecting... Knik Glacier was very good...just not epically great. And the reason I compare Matanuska Glacier to this Knik Glacier is because they're located so close to each other...within miles of each other in the Palmer/Sutton-Alpine area of Southern Alaska. Let me relay the details about my 3-hour daytrip I took with Knik Glacier Tours... (btw, I believe there are helicopter tours offered where you land on Knik Glacier, but I was okay with navigating without the luxury flight option.) - It was $125 plus tax for the tour = $132. I also tipped $10 each to 2 of the tour guides at the end. - For the 3 hour tour, it broke down like this... * The first 35 minutes are navigated along on the back of an old army jeep vehicle. You'll pass over a bumpy road and through a few rivers. * From the end of the land portion of the tour...you then hop on a waterskiing boat where you'll be transported for about 20 minutes to the edge or "toe" of Knik Glacier. * Then you're afforded 1 full hour to explore along the edge of the land at your own accord, capturing pictures and venturing around...looking out upon Knik's many icebergs and the large icefield in the distance. * While on this 1-hour walk around (at your own pace)...the tour sets up a little picnic/tent area where they offer free hot chocolate and small snack items. For myself, I was so enamored with trying to snap the best and most efficient photos of Knik Glacier, I barely spent any time over at the tent area. * After the 1-hour walk along the river's edge...we then hopped back onto the waterskiing boat where the tour guide drove us straight up to some of the massive icebergs where we were afforded up-close perspectives of nature's natural wonders. We used about 15 minutes guiding through the glacial icebergs before being transported back towards the jeep land excursion and then finally to home base. - I visited and did this Knik Glacier Tour today, July 12th, 2002...and although it was pleasant outside wearing pants and long sleeves, the jeep driver recommended that I bring along a jacket because he mentioned how chilly it got out on the Knik River boat ride. And he was correct. The cold air rushing at me while heading towards the glacier was quite cold. The jacket certainly came in handy! - Although I'll post a photo of my confirmation email about the trip and where the tour begins...tours depart from this address... * 26326 E Buckshot Drive Palmer, AK 99645 - There were 7 people on my 10am tour including myself. This was a nice, personal experience. Not many people with me at all. At the Knik River's edge...we were all able to spread out and go our own ways. Overall, I appreciated my time exploring Knik Glacier. But...if you gave me the choice of doing only 1 glacial tour in this area situated about 50 - 100 miles east of Anchorage...I'd definitely choose Matanuska Glacier over this Knik Glacier. For those folks who have the time to check out both tours...then I found them each worthwhile and good in their own elements, sights and landscapes. And it's because of these glaciers and being immersed among incredible settings that I find Alaska to be one of the prettiest states in the USA.

Do not waste your money…read more Mike Oden is a salesman and he will tell you what you want to hear. I spoke personally with Mike Oden multiple times asking him if a seven day hunt was sufficient to get a shot at a coastal grizzly. He said "yes." From this conversation, the three of us hunters were very disappointed that we didn't even get an opportunity at a bear at the end of our trip. I personally didn't even see a grizzly. When we expressed our thoughts to Mike Oden, he responded "that's hunting". Three of us hunted together and, like I said, I didn't even see a grizzly. My fellow hunters did see a sow with a cub approximately 3 miles out just under the snow line with very good binoculars. This is when we realized we were hunting interior bears, not coastal, unlike the description. The two hunters that I was with had black bear tags. They did not see a black bear their entire trip. On the second day, we all awoke ready to hunt but the blinds weren't ready. My buddy and I sat on a rock until 4pm waiting for guides to set them up. So losing the majority of the second day has now turned this 6-day hunt into a 5-day hunt. When we finally took our raft to our hunting spot, blinds were set up at a stream that dumped into the lake we were camping at, an island about 2 miles below. There were four blinds set up total, all about 150 yards from each other on this stream in a straight line. We were surrounded by thousands of miles of wildness in Alaska and four hunters were placed all within 500 yards of one another. I couldn't believe it. If a bear would have come to my left, the hunter next to me and I would have been shooting at the same bear. Same on my right side, because I was one of the two hunters that were placed in the middle of the line. The next day, I told the head of camp, a native of Alaska in his 60s, that I wasn't sitting in the blind again. Just to give you a picture, the head of camp was seen running his fingers through the sand on a track and smelling his fingers to see if the track was fresh. It was laughable and pathetic. I spent the rest of my hunt with my guide looking for sign on foot and cruising the shoreline via the raft in Alaska. My "guide" was from Montana and had never been at this camp before. With only one week experience at a different camp in Alaska the year before, I quickly began to realize that these guides were more like "companions". Another "guide" was from Minnesota and this was his first time at the camp, too. The next "guide" was a nurse from Anchorage who likes taking vacation and guiding in the Alaskan wilderness. These gentlemen were very nice and will be good guides once they learn the area. However, they were not much more helpful than I was when navigating and finding places to hunt in a limited time frame. If you're silly enough to book this hunt, make sure Mike quotes you on the flight in to the camp. 3 hunters were charged $3,720 per person to fly for 45 minutes. The only positive things I can say about this hunt was the food was good and the guide from Montana will be great once he learns the area. They made this trip a little more tolerable. I would not book this hunt again and I recommend you don't either. This hunting trip is more like a camping trip with a gun.

First we have done ATV in Mexico and in Hawaii on some amazing backdrops. This by far was the best. The machines were perfect and so was the equipment. I was hesitant about having to wear a helmet but have to say it is a must. As you fly through the trails at catch an errant tree limb this takes it like a champ. We loved getting to the glacier and then getting the option to polar plunge in the glacier. They made it easy and encouraged it. The food and snacks exceeded our expectations and we had the perfect amounts of stops. We saw 3 moose and two of the three were a mother/baby pair. So cute for sure. We saw eagles fly over head too. This was just amazing and the staff made us feel a part of their family. The sand dunes were a blast in these machines. So many good things to say.

The entire experience was well-organized, smooth, and unforgettable from start to finish. A special thank you to Lindsey, who did a fantastic job providing clear, helpful information and putting together our itinerary. Everything was easy to follow and stress-free because of her attention to detail. And huge kudos to Hannah, our musher -- she was absolutely awesome! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and very professional throughout the ride. You could genuinely see how much she loves her dogs... and how much they love her right back. That made the whole experience feel even more special and authentic. They have everything you'll need to keep you warm from suits, gloves, and shoes... AND you will also get to see the cute puppies!
