The staff were knowledgeable. However, most of our fish from there have died. They indicated we did all the right things to try and save them. They acknowledged that one of the fish was sick when we bought it, but refused to give us a refund or exchange. I've been going here for at least a dozen years. Great selection and staff that can assist you in anything aquatic. I've kept saltwater coral /reef and freshwater fish and plants. They do a proper quartine on all new fish and coral. Years ago, they helped me seed my tank when I moved here. Kickstart my current fishtank that's 12 years old. I like this place for anything alive as they take great care of their live goods. They don't churn fish / plants. Also, their systems are all self contained so they don't spread diseases from tank to tank like the big box stores that is just one big system, here they are self-contained fish/plants in each tank. read more

I live clear down town closer to bountiful. I have been to this store a few to me and they carry almost everything of the brand that I like and use. I ran over there today needing medication. drove through the rain hoping to get there beforehand re they close. well I made it at 6:45 but they were closed anyway. There sign says they close a 7. very frustrating to get there after driving all that way to have them closed when they should be open. the lights were still off n and there was still a car there but they wouldn't open the door. I had a great experience with Fish 4 U! Due to COVID, I'm not going into stores right now, and luckily Fish 4 U had a great online ordering system to help me get some new friends. On the store's main webpage, there is a link that takes you to the online shopping portal. There's a huge variety of fish and supplies to choose from, with the stocking status of all items. I ordered 2 Amano shrimp, chose my pick up time of 45mins later, paid online, and headed over to the shop. When I arrived, I called and asked if the staff could bring my shrimp outside so I didn't have to enter the store. They were more than happy to do this and brought my shrimp out with a smile. The whole process was quick, easy, and friendly, and if I have a need for fish or supplies in the future I will definitely be back! Side note, I haven't seen either shrimp in weeks. They're clear and are apparently great at hiding (according to the friendly store staff, who I called a few days later in a panic, worried they had jumped out of the tank or something). I haven't seen any carcasses, so I don't think they're dead. But they are the most boring pets ever. At least they clean up the tank pretty well when everyone is sleeping! read more

Love the selection they typically have, there's a super cool knowledgeable middle aged man who works here and a young blonde girl which I should know the name of by now who I run into almost every time I stop in, absolutely adore her. Only spot in the state that I've noticed has mermaid weed and I love this plant. Clean tanks, large selection of equipment and foods and supplies. Planted betta housing for their bettas for sale and never have more than like 10-15 at a time. Never seen a dead betta fish here. Love that I can get red racers here as well. Only downside in my opinion is that minus those two employees, the others I've run into are really naggy about you coming into the store unless you come in knowing exactly what to get and where it is and plan to be in and out in under 3 minutes, absolutely no browsing with them and no room to yourself. I needed help with a sick fish and the guy told me to put the fish out of its misery by poisoning it with clove oil saying it was the humane thing to do when I asked for instructions and medicine for the fish. I ended up going somewhere else to buy medicine and the fish is fine now. They have a nice selection of animals but don't go in there for advice unless the owners come back. read more

I recently gave another fish store a pretty bad review. I've felt pretty disenchanted with fish stores around here in general, and while I've been to Fish 4 U before it had been some time since my last visit, and I'd lumped it in with the others. That was not fair because this is definitely one of your better options in the Salt Lake area. Where other stores seem to always have sad, dirty tanks you can tell they really take pride in their aquariums here. I don't expect perfection, but I don't want to see sick fish, or tons of algae, or aiptasia. They have a good mix of livestock here: saltwater, bettas, freshwater, and a whole section of cichlids. They also have a lot of types of fish you don't see many other places. That's a big thing for me. I want to see something new to me whenever I visit, and yesterday I did! They have a lot of specialty bettas, and they are more than you'd pay for at Petco or Petsmart but 1) seriously, not the best place to buy your fish and 2) they are gorgeous here! Half moon, full moon, koi, etc. We got a gorgeous pinky white betta two years ago, and that little gentleman is only growing more beautiful with time. They are also the only store that sells Endlers, and I love those pretty guys. One of my favorite freshwater fish is a pea puffer, and again, they had one yesterday. They also sell some plants, and while that selection was not great, it is nice to have the option. Oh, and they have (super huge) discus! As far as saltwater goes they definitely concentrate more on the fish, although they do have some corals, anemones, and mushrooms. They had some seriously beautiful saltwater angels and tangs most recently, and some darling baby gobies. They also have a whole section of tanks, lighting, food, etc. It's not huge, but should have most any supplies you could be looking for. Pricing is perhaps a tiny bit high, but about in line with any other specialty pet shop. They have a loyalty program, and I'm not sure what it is...maybe 5% back? Whatever it is it doesn't hurt! The only bad thing I can say, and this is more my husband's opinion, is that their owner does not seem very knowledgeable. My hubby has overheard the owner talking to customers and giving what he considers bad advice. They also had a run-in where the owner insisted that industry standard bulkheads for 1inch PVC is actually ¾ inch or something. I don't remember the particulars, but maybe if you are a total newbie don't take everything you are told as absolute fact. Regardless, I would hope if you are just starting out in the hobby that you would seek out advice from multiple avenues. Because of my pleasant experience yesterday I'd definitely say they are my first choice for fish and aquarium supplies. read more

I love this store. I've been in multiple times with no issue. Last couple times I've had to buy meds for certain fish that I've taken in as rescues/bought online. No issue with the store there. Today I went in for a shrimp filter. I overheard the girls at the counter talking quietly- "I don't think she takes care of them very well" idk if it was about my husbandry, another customer, or a different situation. I was tired of going to the big box pet stores and risking yet another case of ick so when I needed some new fish & supplies I decided to give Fish 4 U a try. Even though it's over 45 minutes away from home it was worth the trip because these folks are very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about aquariums. I'd been thinking about investing in a canister filter and asked a few questions about it. I ended up buying one not because he was pushy (he definitely wasn't) but because he explained the benefits vs. my back tank filter so thoroughly I had to have one. The fish here might be a little more expensive than the other places near me but most are more mature and I can tell they're well cared for. I'll be back when I'm ready to buy or order some more fish. read more

Freshest fish of any place I have been to in Salt Lake. Don't let your initial impressions of this place fool you. Tucked away in a strip mall off highland drive, you might have never noticed Fish 4 U, but it is an absolute gem. There is no seating, or menus, but that only adds to it's charming aquatic theme. It is wall to wall aquariums, giving you a good sample of that day's catch. The staff is rather knowledgeable about the biology and care of the fish, but were very unhelpful as to menu selection and side dishes. This place is take out only! Do not make the mistake of trying to eat there, the staff will get very upset!! Even though they told me never to come back, I give it five stars. read more

I was offered help multiple times from multiple people who were all friendly. They were also very patient with my toddler. They had a great selection of freshwater fish and tank decor. Best LFS in the valley. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful for solving any problems you have. There is a good selection of salt and fresh fish, not quite as much as a few other stores but these are the most healthy and happy. I've never brought home an infected fish from here. They have a few not for sale tanks that I've personally used for some fantastic ideas at home. They have the greatest variety of tank plants and all growing beautifully so you don't have to coax a half dead plant back to life in your own tank. They have the best selection on accessories for freshwater and on par with the other LFS for saltwater, so if you're starting a home tank start here. Ask lots of questions, the woman who (I think) owns the place will educate you on anything you need. read more

I wouldn't have been able to start both of my freshwater tanks without these guys. They know their stuff, and in great detail. If they don't know an answer - they'll find out. At first I bought some fish from Petsmart, and the guy said he thinks they 'should' get along, and it ended very badly. But at fish4u they know all the dynamics of different schools and mixing and matching fish. I can't recommend them highly enough for all things fish. read more

BEWARE- If I could give this zero stars I would. To start I wanted a salt water set up. Going to Fish 4 U was the only store close to my house and I had high hopes that the employees could help me get everything I needed for a setup after the one I bought on KSL was a POS. First off I spent over $3k on the tank, stand, sump and lights. Being a beginner in the saltwater fish world and was told they are very hard to keep maintained I went in with high hopes their knowledge in the matter would make this a breeze. WRONG. They sold me a fresh water aquarium tank with a sump refugium that hangs over the side of the tank. Bulk head fitting was cracked in the first kit we got, took it back and owner said there was no way that it could have cracked. Told him that we didnt crack it, it was already cracked in the box. Finally replaced part after a lecture from the owner of how impossible that was. Sold me a light knowing that it was going underneath a hood to the setup. Light melted. Went in and talked to the owner and he said he could not take it back but could give me a 80% refund?? So they dont back up anything that they sell on equipment. Another problem I had was the light for the sump went out a week after I bought it and when I took it back in the box they asked me for the receipt and he said "ya these have a problem with going out for no reason, they're not good lights" and had to call the owner to ask if they could replace it. Really? Your selling things that you know are defective? Now let me just say this has all happened in the course of 3 months, everyone there knew who I was and what my setup needs were I mean I was in there ALOT. If I am spending over $3k in a day for a setup not to mention fish, rocks, food and chemicals on top of that dont you think you could honor my purchases by replacing things that melt, malfunction or break on your sale? I am soo upset that I am being sold freshwater setup items for saltwater needs. This sump hose has leaked all over the floor after a second replacement of the bulk head fitting was replaced. DO NOT SHOP HERE. If you want quality equipment and knowledgable salesmen go somewhere else. No one in the store is on the same page as far as care and maintenance goes. I don't like how almost all their aquariums are filled with algae. It's filthy and not good for the fish. The fish price is rather on the expensive side compared to petsmart which is supposed to be a corporate. Morimo balls are more expensive here than anywhere else. The frog I bought from there was aggressive. It's kinda scuzzy and they don't have that big of selections of fish. More than petco/petsmart but bird world is da best on selections. Coworker bought fish that were infected with fungus once. Anyway to me, this place is rather depressing and way expensive. read more

Long time customer bought all my equipment and fish here for years. The first problem I had getting 2 diseases female rainbow fish (worth about $14) and I got treated like I was trying to do something wrong. They said they didn't stand behind the fish because I didn't bring the fist dead one back in first week, and threw it away, and when i brought the second one back they gave me eye rolls and grief. It had the same black spots the first one had. My other fish are all fine just these new ones had black spots. They got so defensive So sad because I really liked my fish and set up but Ive never been treated so bad for bringing a sick fish in. He tried to make Me the bad guy and took picture of my Mercedes license plate. He was worried I would give bad review so he had to make me look bad. I was just hoping he cud save the fish. And I drove 20 miles for it. What a fiasco. Never take a sick fish back you will be belittled in front of your son like me. read more
