Disappointing experience. Ordered four chandeliers. Two arrived clean and properly packed. Two arrived dusty, dirty, and loosely packed with styrofoam debris -- requiring cleaning before installation (see photos). Delivery also exceeded the advertised 2-3 week timeline by a wide margin. Communication about delays was inconsistent, and responses felt dismissive when concerns were raised. Additionally, the fixtures appear to be sourced from third-party vendors rather than an exclusive in-house collection as implied. For the price point, I expected consistent quality, accurate delivery timelines, and better customer service. Unfortunately, this experience fell well short. read more

This business sold me a chandelier, processed my payment, and then called afterward to say they would not deliver it because they "accidentally" undercharged me and now wanted an additional $4,000. That is completely unacceptable. They also claimed they would cancel the charge to my debit card, yet the payment moved from pending to fully processed. So not only did they refuse to honor the sale, they also failed to return my money as promised. At this point, they are refusing to uphold a completed transaction and are withholding both the item and my payment. That alone should be a major red flag for any customer. To make matters worse, the salesperson openly admitted that everything in the store is marked up at least 50% above retail value because, in their words, "tourists love to haggle." That tells you everything you need to know about how this business operates. This is a company that overcharges customers, does not honor agreed-upon prices, and cannot be trusted to follow through even after taking your money. This a a cool shop in the French Quarter with all kinds of neat stuff to look at. Normally, I look and browse and never buy anything at these types of stores, but the cool cigar cutter caught my eye! They had a few styles but the Mrs kept telling me the yellow one was the best. That's normally not true unless we're talking bananas or the inside of a Little Debbie cake. The staff was amazing and pointed out the matching cigar box and made a package deal with shipping that I couldn't refuse. It was a splurge for myself and I'm happy with my purchase after it arrived about a week after I bought it, packaged with LOTS of paper to keep it all safe! While we waited to write it up, we had a couple of soda pops from their cool fridge and went about our shopping trip without having to lug more stuff around (we already had bags of stuff too). Each of the ladies were so helpful, knowledgeable, and down to earth..... 1) they each go out of their way to help you (Laurie took me under her wing today) 2) they are not pushy. They will help you put rooms together with an inexpensive light here but a more opulent light here..... they clearly know what they're doing to make your house a beautiful home. 3) some of the negative reviews talked about the ladies that worked there explaining that when a sign says do not touch it actually means do not touch. Lights. Cameras. Action! Walking into this quaint lighting store, is like walking into a museum. You may look, but you may not touch. You may look, but you may not take pictures. You may enter, but you may not linger. When you first enter the store, they literally have the store set up so that it's one way in, and one way out. You absolutely will be tempted to touch all the shiny sparkly pieces dangling from the ceiling, but don't. They are seriously expensive crystals, and other lighting items that cost a small fortune. I truly wanted to take pictures because they had some very unique lighting, but there are signs everywhere and sales people that will watch you like a hawk, and absolutely for bid you from taking pictures. They literally don't want you sitting on any of the furniture, or really touching anything. I get it. I really do. But they have a store set up so that people who aren't necessarily in the market for lighting wander through. This is definitely a store that you don't want to bring children into. The store is oddly placed in the middle of the French quarter where tourists go to mingle, dine, wine, and have a good time. I suppose they may also want to spend a lot of money on an item that would also cost a fortune to have it shipped as well. The sales people actually are very friendly, but I would imagine it must be incredibly stressful to have to deal with 85% of the people that walk into the store or totally disinterested in anything but touching and not purchasing, and the other 15% possibly interested in making a purchase but unable to really look because of the people lingering around not interested in buying. If you are in the area, and have a penchant for lighting, and unique lighting at that, absolutely stop in and take a look. read more

WARNING!!!!! DO NOT SHOP here!!!.....any table lamps you see in store can be purchased via Amazon for more than half off. The lights are made by a company called Chloe. We saw a light we liked. Initially ticket said 600...the owner said half off. We bought it and paid for shipping $50. $350 total. Imagine our surprise when box arrived and the same light (identical model number went for $153 on Amazon with free delivery) don't make drunken purchases like we did. This place is a rip off. My husband and I recently purchased a new house that we are having built. We need chandeliers and this place appeared to be perfect! Custom made chandeliers ?? Awesome! However, we have been to a LOT of chandelier places. By a lot, I mean all of the commercial manufacturers.. I.e. Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Upon entering, we were wowed by the selection. Then, we noticed something horrible. They had the same chandeliers as Home Depot marked up to ridiculous amounts. Customer Beware! Please read before shopping with this merchant. My wife and I purchased a fixture from this company in October of last year while we were in New Orleans at a cost of several thousands of dollars. The fixture was shipped to our home in Nebraska and arrived severely damaged. After many calls not returned, we finally got the owner on the phone where she accused us of damaging the fixture and would not accept that fact that it could be damaged in shipping. The owner would not provide a refund but, finally, agreed to replace the fixture. This was in December. We never received the fixture and after weeks of many unreturned calls, I was able to get the owner on the phone where she told me she had a replacement fixture and would ship it if I was willing to pay $350.00 for the shipping. I foolishly agreed to do so. A week later, I called to ask the status of my fixture being shipped and was informed that due to Covid, UPS would not ship freight any longer and that the store would be closing. Months go by, the store repopens, and I repeatedly attempt to get either a refund or the fixture. Finally, in August, I get the owner on the phone where she informs me that she sold the fixture to someone else and that if I wanted my money back, I could just call my credit card company and get it from them. If you have ever tried to do a chargeback with a cc company, you will know that it's a painful process and since some much time had passed, they were unwilling to do so. Anyway, I finally get the owner to agree to give me a refund. I was sent a refund request form and completed it, same day, and sent it back. That was weeks ago and I'm back to calls and emails not being responded to. Basically, they have stolen thousands of dollars from a customer which makes them crooks and irreputable merchants. I will be pursuing other options to recover but it will be a long journey. However, everyone needs to be aware that this is a place where you do NOT want to risk your money. read more

Feel like accidentally breaking something while trotting around the French Quarter? Fischer-Gambino specializes in things that look reeeeally fragile in a very inconsistent and cautious showroom. It's a gorgeous store. There are at least fifty one-of-a-kind chandeliers hanging from the ceiling that are just screaming to be hung in a Victorian dining room or foyer. They have this 'one way in/one way out' thing going on that a lot of folks choose to ignore, but it's basically just a large oval path that hits every part of the store. Please watch your head, neck, shoulders, or any other body part because there are things hanging super low and poking out EVERYWHERE. This is why they have the 'one way' thing because it was tight squeeze no matter where you walked. I surprised I didn't pummel face-first into a $30k Tiffany glass sconce. Oh and that's the average ticket price here as well so I was totally treating this like a museum. Lots of amazing things to look at though! No pictures! read more

We found an exquisite piece of local art at this store while on vacation. On the back it had the artist's name, date and item #. While mulling it over it was not hard at all to find the artist's site where they were selling similar items at about half the cost! When we reached out to artist we were planning to purchase something from they directly, based on the one we saw. Prior to meet up we went back into the store to inquire if their price was firm (considering they were marking it up nearly 200%) they were rude and told us "they have to pay $20K in rent"...we were then contacted by the artist who invited us to home was then pressured to not sell to us directly anymore either. Fantastic quaint little store in New Orleans. We liked so many things in the store we planned to go back or order online. However, I was a little disappointed in my purchase as I got home and put it on display and was so proud I got it at such a "good deal" with it being on sale to find out from a friend doing a 5 minute Amazon search I could have bought the identical item for half the price. This is kind of a long story so I'll try to condense it. Bought a lighted outdoor tree from the store for my balcony on Decatur St. in mid 2014. The tree was on my balcony looking absolutely smashing for 2 years. Sold this the Decatur Street property and put all my belongings into climate controlled storage for a year while looking for a new home in the Quarter. Found a new home and moved everything out of storage only to find my once illuminess, gorgeous tree had turned black! Quite perplexing to say the least. With this information I went to the store thinking nothing ventured nothing gained with very low expectations. Spoke with Cheryl, one of the staff at Fischer-Gambino, and she directed me to send a text to Patti's cell phone. (the owner! WOW...the staff actually gave out the owner's personal number for customer service issues...stepping up the customer service game beyond what I was expecting!) I sent her images of the wonky tree and she got back to me stating Fischer-Gambino no longer sells that tree manufacturer. So, you can imagine what I was thinking at that point....get ready for the blow off....here it comes! NOT A CHANCE! Patti not only said she'd replace the tree with a far better one and only charge me her cost, she also personally delivered it and she and Bruce (another staff member) installed it in my courtyard and took the yucky black one away! What the heck! How excited was I!! I was so over the moon pleased with that kind of customer service that I went back the next day and spoke with another staff member, Laurie about getting more fixtures for my new home. We talked about what I needed but I felt there would be more clarity if she could see my interior. So she came over to my home on that very Sunday and spent probably 3+ hours helping me research the right fixtures for my place and share her amazing decorating ideas. We found super cool fixtures that will fit my style just perfectly! I can hardly wait for them to come in. As a small business owner I realize how difficult it can be to please all customers, but I must say not only did I receive great customer service with fair and equitable resolutions to my issue, I also witnessed great customer care while i was in the store browsing for lighting options. While shopping for living room furniture pieces, Bill was more than patient as I walked in at least 10 times over a one month period, each time with tape measure in hand. Since the sofa I wanted was quite expensive, he was quick to offer suitable chairs at lower price points to keep me within budget. I met Patti (the owner) who was also lovely and very attentive to my needs. Another salesperson Cheryl came over to introduce herself as a point of contact since Bill would not be working the day of my delivery. We were intrigued to come into this store when we saw the huge bronze lions. Everything in the store is for when you've reached boss status and want people to know you are a boss. Whether it's bronze lions at the entrance of your home, fancy monkey lights in your living room, or a chandelier for your dining room. If you look at a price tag here you are not the target customer. Those who get things from here have no budget and simply swipe their credit card. No pictures were allowed. You walk around in a counter clockwise path and look at all the fancy items. The staff was friendly and didn't judge us even though we had no business being in a store like this. After reading reviews about fabulous product inventory I brought an out of town guest here for some shopping. While there was absolutely nothing in this store that I didn't find gaudy or tacky my Austin friend bought a small chandelier. Well sure as she gets home she finds it at her Lowe's store in Austin much cheaper and her NO one arrives broken into countless pieces. Customer service was lacking and it took several attempts to have them agree it was their responsibility. This left such a bad taste in her mouth she disputed the cc card and sent item back. This store beats what I've seen in Memphis, Little Rock, Baton Rouge, et cetera for uniqueness, price, and variety. I called and advised that I'd have to travel over 300 miles to visit the store, and they offered to accommodate me regardless of what time I got into town. They offer exquisite service without hawking you fro.m the moment you walk into the door. I purchased my chandelier from these folk. I was given $50.00 off. The piece was $500 below my maximum budget, and traveling to the store for the discounts saved me about $1,000 on the actual product. They were friendly and knowledgable. Every year I go to a medical seminar in New Orleans, and, every year I stop at Fischer-Gambino. I have purchased seven items over the years from the shop, from lamps to paintings and sconces. They've always been great in there. It's not a very big store and there are a lot of things to see. They also will work with you on price on some items. Great store, great people. Highly recommend. Beware "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" If you are at all not sure about size, weight or husband acceptance factor do not order a light fixture from this store. I made a big mistake by not understanding that ordering a light fixture and paying for delivery I wasn't able to cancel. Richard my salesperson was very sympathetic they offered to exchange for another item however I'm home now and can't see their products, I waited all day for the Owner of the store to call me back, after sending them an email I received a call within 20 minutes from the Owner who said NO WAY would she cancel the order and insisted she was shipping the fixture. The prices they show in the store are double what they are on their website, the hook is the salespeople in the store then tell you they are offering 30% off so make sure you check their website prior to thinking you got a great deal. In my situation I was given 50% off and told the manager was in a great mood that day, later when I went back to show my sister what I ordered I was told by a different salesperson they were offering 30-50% off. Their light fixtures are indeed beautiful, but apparently due to the amount of folks that either changed their minds or realized they were misled by "manager good moods" this store does not care and has an hard line attitude towards any future good will and return customers. read more

I arrived in New Orleans on August 10th 2018 for a conference. About 1 PM after dropping my bags off at the Bourbon Orleans I entered Fischer Gambino. I was immediately greeted by a sales person who inquired "Is there anything I can help you with". I replied no -that I was just looking around.Her response was-'There is nothing for you here. You don't belong here-and would you please leave. She walked toward the entrance and motioned for me to leave. She spoke with disdain and hatred towards me. I asked why? Have I done something wrong. Am I inappropriately dressed? Do I appear intoxicated or belligerent? I explained I am a physician from Dallas here for a medical conference. I was in shock at almost in tears. I didn't leave but just stood there. I found a women there who said she was the owner. I explained one of her sales people just tried to kick me out the store for no reason. She responded"Oh she's just old. I'll talk to her. We have had some break ins lately. I said Does it look like I'm trying to break in?
