Tyrone - Las Vegas We noticed some prior tenant damage on the baseboards in our house. I wanted to give a big shout out to Tyrone. He goes above and beyond when it comes to maintenance and customer service. He cleaned and chemically treated the wall and replaced the baseboard in our bedroom. Thank you, Tyrone!

I have been renting from Firstkey for 3 years. I've had a number of struggles but the worst is that they let it rain in my house for 3 months before even attempting a repair, it's still not fixed, and now they're trying to scam me out of my money. Details below. So it was RAINING IN MY HOUSE (a serious condition they were required to address quickly per our lease). I withheld rent to get their attention, as no one was responding otherwise and it had been two weeks with no action and canceled appointments. All my calls kept getting sent overseas and the call centers in India will not even provide you with a phone number for a local office, and you can't find it anywhere online. Eventually, someone contacted me once they were inconvenienced by my lack of payment, and I explained that if I am paying to live somewhere, the dwelling must be safe and our belongings protected. They agreed in principle, said they'd make a note of it, and promised progress eventually. Despite numerous conversations, they didn't fix the roof--instead, they issued an eviction. Unaware of the legal nuances at the time, I quickly paid everything current to avoid further issues. Then they told me I owed an extra $906 for an eviction that shouldn't have happened. It took THREE MONTHS before someone came to "fix" the roof, and I didn't even know it was done because their contractor never responded. I disputed the $906 eviction fee. They claimed it was because I hadn't sent a certified letter about withholding rent, even though we'd had DOZENS of phone calls in that time discussing the matter. (Lesson: send a certified letter 7 days prior to withholding rent and consider depositing the funds with the court. Hope that helps, folks!) Despite their breach of the lease by allowing the roof to profusely leak for 3 months, they still pursued that charge and lumped it into my rent, making it unavoidable. The property manager, Jessica Sierra (or Ciera?), said she couldn't remove the eviction fee but could request an inconvenience credit for the unusable room. Because reaching them took over a week and the fees were lumped in with rent--risking a late payment--she said not to worry about a late fee while she checked with management. Later, Iman Johnson from the Orlando office approved a $300 inconvenience credit--insultingly low but I wanted it to be over so I countered with $400, and she called me back the next day saying "Good news, we were able to get the $400 inconvenience credit approved" and I thanked her. When I went to pay, nothing had been removed from my bill. I contacted Iman about the $400 credit we agreed on and the $100 late fee Jessica promised to waive. Suddenly, the $400 credit also included the $100 late fee, though that was never once mentioned. It was a bait-and-switch. I told Jessica I wouldn't pay the extra $100, as I was promised both the $400 credit and a waived late fee, and they were represented as totally separate items in separate calls, and I wouldn't have been late at all if it wasn't for Jessica telling me she needed time after ignoring me for over a week. She said she'd review the call recordings and get back to me--two weeks later, still nothing. Director Maribel Stout also promised to follow up after reviewing the calls but never did. Meanwhile, rent is due again, and despite my daily emails and calls asking for resolution, no one responds. Worse yet, the roof still isn't fixed! It now leaks enough to create condensation and soak the floor after rain. My laptop, left open on my desk, was damaged because the leak continues and it's stuck in a power cycle loop-- silly me to think I could leave that there. I'll be taking it to Apple to have their team confirm the cause of the issue. This saga began 2/15 and continues today, 5/28, with no resolution and no management contact. They actually have since removed all credits from my account and left the $906 charge, will not respond, and have issued another eviction because I won't pay the unnecessary fees and refuse to let them continue to gaslight me that this is normal. It's not. And it wouldn't hold up in court when presented with all of the plentiful instances of negligence I've documented. I rarely leave bad reviews, but they earned this one. I hate stress and conflict, and I just want this resolved. I hope someone will be fair with me before my rent is due in three days. I'll update as necessary.

As a company, they're horrible. Just like other reviews, we've had issues getting through to maintenance for repairs and our ceiling has been looking like it was about to fall through. 2 no shows for scheduled maintenance repairs and finally Tyler was scheduled for us and he showed up. He did a fantastic job, was very quick, respectful and professional. 5 stars for him. Thank you so much for all your help, Tyler!!!

I am writing to express my outrage and utter disappointment with the inexcusable neglect, unsafe living conditions, and lack of accountability that my family and I endured while residing at the Lithia Springs location. The level of disregard for tenant safety, health, and basic human decency exhibited by FirstKey Homes is beyond unacceptable -- it is unconscionable. From June 2025 onward, this home deteriorated into a dangerous and unlivable environment. The kitchen sink was ripped out in July and left discarded in the yard, leaving us without a functioning kitchen for months. The floors were torn up and never repaired, leaving open, uneven, and filthy areas that became breeding grounds for mold. The air inside the house became heavy and toxic, causing my elderly parents to struggle for breath. In February 2025, I reported a water bill exceeding $1,000 -- a clear sign of a serious plumbing issue. For months, I pleaded for help. Only after constant follow-ups did a contractor finally investigate and find a burst pipe under the house that had been leaking for nearly three months. The delay caused massive water damage and worsened the mold problem. Your management team repeatedly failed to act with urgency or responsibility. I submitted multiple maintenance requests, received random and inconsistent calls, and was repeatedly told that a vendor would contact me -- yet no one ever showed up. Even when provided a vendor's number, my calls went unanswered. Each promise of resolution was empty, and each day we remained in that house, our health deteriorated further. Under Georgia Code §44-7-13, a landlord is required to maintain safe and habitable living conditions. FirstKey Homes failed this obligation completely. The conditions we endured were unsafe, unsanitary, and psychologically damaging. This experience has caused me tremendous mental and emotional distress. I am a medical professional -- a doctor -- and I have been unable to work due to the toll this situation has taken on my mental health. The constant anxiety of living in a contaminated, collapsing home while caring for elderly parents in declining health was overwhelming and cruel. No family should ever have to live like that. We have since vacated the property, as remaining there was not an option. I am demanding formal acknowledgment of the harm this negligence caused, both physically and mentally, clear release from lease with no penalty, and a written response from your office and corporate leadership outlining what actions will be taken to correct this gross failure. Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress (NIED) -- When a landlord's failure to maintain safe, habitable conditions causes serious mental suffering (anxiety, depression, lost work, etc.). Premises Liability / Landlord Negligence -- Under Georgia law, landlords must keep rental properties in repair and safe for tenants. Breach of Implied Warranty of Habitability (or similar doctrine) -- While Georgia does not formally codify this in all cases, courts recognise a landlord's duty to maintain a dwelling fit for habitation, and neglect of that duty may open liability including for emotional and physical damages.

Tyrone did great. He answered all my questions and repaired my door with no issues. I am completely satisfied with his services today.

1 star. This was one of the worst rental experiences my family has had. The main problem with FirstKey Homes was not just that things broke. The real problem was the combination of broken home systems, very slow repair response, and charges that felt unfair and excessive. The water heater failed during December, in cold weather, and my family had to live without proper hot water for about a month. We bought electric kettles to heat water for bathing and sometimes had to go to hotels or the gym just to shower. That should never happen in a professionally managed rental. The sink drain pipe then broke, and instead of getting repaired promptly, that situation dragged on for around three months. Water spread onto the kitchen floor while multiple repair teams came to inspect the problem and left without fixing it. To make matters worse, parts of the area were opened up during inspection and not properly restored right away. The problem ended up being handled by me and a family member rather than by the company that was supposed to maintain the home. The refrigerator and kitchen hood also had problems. In one case, two technicians showed up for the same repair request at the same time, and I was later charged in connection with that visit. That was deeply frustrating. There was also rotted damage around the frame/door area that allowed rainwater to come into the house. That repair still took around two weeks. The garbage disposal issue was one of the clearest examples of why this experience felt so unfair. The disposal was old and no longer working. After a delay, a technician came out, and then FirstKey Homes tried to rely on photos of ordinary food residue from that day to blame me and charge me $150. From my perspective, that was not a credible explanation for why an outdated disposal unit had failed. What I experienced with FirstKey Homes was a repeated pattern of delay, inconvenience, weak communication, and billing practices that seemed to favor the company at the tenant's expense. It created constant stress and made it difficult to trust that maintenance issues would be handled fairly. I would not recommend FirstKey Homes to anyone looking for a reliable rental experience.

This company bought the rental home we were already living in. The rent increased significantly every year yet they never inspected the property and repairs were extremely slow and would only happen after we called multiple times a day for days in a row. These were major issues that affected the habitability of the house. Twice it was a water line break that resulted in no water in the home for days and once it was a water heater that busted and flooded the house. When the home was flooded they finally fixed the water heater then said they would inspect the damage but never sent anyone. A large portion of the driveway also completely sunk and the home is up a very steep hill and when we reported the damage and asked for a repair they only came out to take pictures And never repaired it. The property management repeatedly put charges on our rent for not having renters insurance despite the fact that we had continuous coverage for the over 5 years that we lived there and sent them proof of our policy over and over. Any time they stand to make an extra fee they seem to lose the proof that you complied by their requirements. Finally we reached the end of our patience with the company refusing to adequately maintain a decent property with basic access and timely repairs so we contacted them about terminating our lease early. The property manager said it was no problem and sent us a move out package, accepted our date and accepted our rent plus two months extra rent as an early termination fee. Now four months after we have moved out another person from First Key has contacted us with a bill for three more months of rent. This is an investment company with no ties to any community that profits off of high rents while barely maintaining livable houses. They engage in predatory marketing like sending repeated emails to tenants soliciting them to sign up for services like rent trak that promise to build your credit by reporting your rent payments to credit bureaus but charge large fees to do so. It seems to be company culture to cut corners and perform the bare minimum because they are not providing a product to their tenants, they are providing an investment product to their investors. read more

I have been trying for over a year to get First Key Homes to fix our flooding basement. The basement floods every time it storms, which causes mold, mildew and severe damage to our personal items and the structure of the house as well as the carpet in the home. We have had our lives disrupted several times with jackhammers, men walking in and out, walls being torn down and still have not fixed the problem, having to put my sister out of her room down there while they attempt to fix the home. The situation takes several phone calls and emails for weeks for them to assess our situation. This recently happened again on the 19th of April and they have still yet to fix the mildewed carpet, and moldy walls. I have small children that live in my home and my sister's bedroom is in the basement, which gets ruined every time it storms. I have emailed, called, sent maintenance requests and even asked and talked to corporate whom have not taken care of the problem. This past time I was told my corporate that they cannot make someone come out and fix the home and which they have not had anyone come out and fix. The management is so hard to get ahold of, they do not return calls or fix the main problem. They do not provide you with anyone higher up in corporate if your property isn't taken care of because they do not want them to know that they are not fixing the problems. You will get the run around because they don't really care to address the problems and concerns. They half ass do their jobs which causes a huge problem and safety risk for us whom live in the home. Please think twice before working with first key! If you get a home with no problems then great but you never know what you getting into until you get in it. Please be careful when working with them. They fix up the outside of the home well enough just to get you in and leased, but once you get in the home there are a ton of underlying problems. Sincerely, a frustrated and pissed off resident read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! I attempted to rent a property in Jacksonville, FL. This company gave us the run around from the gate. We set up a self tour for a property we loved immediately, on Oct 27th we scheduled a self tour. When we arrived the lockbox had been broken and the key was missing. It was Sunday, so I didn't expect much to be done and when I called someone answered, told me someone will notify me when the key is replaced. Great. We were really interested in this property, so I called Monday and Tuesday and left 4 messages with FirstKey. I never got a call returned. I had other properties to look at the following Saturday, so I wanted to include this one now in hopes they replaced the key. So prior, to Saturday, I call again Wednesday and even go as far as to use the rently.com (where I found the home in the first place) chat site which is tech support for the site. They advised to contact firstkey directly and I have all of the proof of these conversations. I even told him, I'm chatting with you because no one answers or returns your call. So he gives me a code to go see the house again. Saturday comes and no one physically called me at all, I did get in contact with one person who told me that it takes 48 hours to replace keys and she'd notify the leasing agent in MY AREA! This is the main # you should all be able to help me. We so happen to go to the home and boom key is replaced but the lockbox isn't, luckily we kept a pic of the serial # and was able to self tour. we loved the home! we were ready to apply however the date was 15 days out and we were wondering if we got approved could we pay the security deposit and a holding fee. once again, I CAN'T REACH ANYONE calling several times. Finally Monday afternoon someone answers and says we should just apply but are unable to say if it can be held or not and I need to the leasing agent iN MY ARE and they'll put a note to be contacted. Got her info for my area and everytime I call, its a voicemail and then it says I'm out of the office until xyz please call xyz. I call that person...you guessed, have to leave a voicemail. no call returned. We love this property and price so we put in the application. We provide all documents, my boyfriend and I and the site stops working, doesn't notify us of anything. but we completed it Tuesday, but it never prompted a quiz and it didn't let us pay. I send emails and try calling. I finally get through to someone again NOT IN MY AREA. she can't find the app. I am telling her it won't allow us to pay and that its saying my login info is incorrect. but won't allow me to reset my password. She eventually finds my app and says she can't see it or help me because its not in her area and someone in MY AREA will reach out to me and to go to rentcafe.com and then I'll be able to see my app and pay etc....so I'm feeling all this is shady but we like the home but I'm concerned. We paid the $70 and everything was in by Wed morning of this week. No one calls FROM MY AREA and I get an email, mind you we submitted everything paystubs and all by this time. I get an email saying I will get a quiz and we need to submit bank statements to prove income bc paystubs don't suffice. That the statements need to show my paycheck w/ my bank acct last 4 showing and my name/address on the statement sent to them. This is Wednedsay afternoon. I'm not feeling comfortable. I wasn't sending bank statements, my pay stubs suffice and alone I make 3x the rent +. I also have a voicemail of someone saying they need ONLY MY bank statements not my co applicants. at this point I'm not feeling comfortable. However, I get a phone call Thursday night because I slightly gave up like I'm not sending bank statements. Thursday night at 9pm while I'm out at dinner, a leasing agent from GA calls me and says "we are working late tonight til midnight and all you need to do is complete the quiz so the underwriter can try to get you approved before midnight". I explain we stopped because the bank statement email. She replied "The underwriter isn't requiring that, we just need you all to take the quiz". Okay great, I'm thinking this must mean we can get this house, we did love the house. So after dinner 10p we complete this 3 min quiz. I call her (8x because the phone wouldn't ring and I emailed as well). It finally rung at 11ish and I let her know. By 11:30 we got an email saying congrats w/ the qualified amount, which can be used towards other properties they have for rent. BUT NOTHING ABOUT THE HOUSE WE WANTED and APPLIED FOR! I waited until Today, this morning 8am I email, thank you for informing me of approval, what are next steps to secure the home we applied for? I get an email back hours later from the AGENT IN MY AREA stating the home at already been leased but here's a link to our other properties and let her know if we want to transfer our application! when I replied, I got an autoreply saying the local agent no longer worked there. RUN!!! read more

Homes have the ability to be great alternative to apartment living; however, due to the maintenance and the poor craftmanship of the maintenance done. Beware, you will be out of expense on electric and /or plumbing if needing something to be done right. Flooding twice in this home. Electrical done incorrectly, plumbing poorly done, paint and caulking done to cover damages, after time will peel and crack off. If you have not other alternative this is a temporary housing at best. read more

I applied on 3/7 for this home waited 10 business days (2 full weeks went by) I contacted first key homes and they told me that I was preapproved for this home and that they were going to send us the lease and to wait for our leasing agent Catherine C. We contacted her multiple times in regards to this property and NEVER got a call back until the property was off the market did she decide to call me back. I had contacted first key homes and her to switch my application to another home and of course she didn't answer the phone and first key homes gave me the contact info for the leasing coordinator, brieanne. I contacted her and she was able, allegedly, to get my application transferred. She( leasing coordinator) informed since I was preapproved for the other home that I wouldn't have to wait the normal 7-10 business days she that I would get the lease WITHIN 24 HRS, well surprise it's been 4 days!!! If you call first key homes about your application they don't know and will pass you along. Highly disappointed and I advise others to stay away!! read more

Worst company to ever deal with !!! Save your money and run! They wait weeks to run your application and in the mean time the house you applied for is "all of a sudden sold". I tried over 30 times in 8 days to get a human and some answers via text, email, IM, phone calls to many numbers listed on their site and their agents and no response. 9 days later I finally get a person who is in a call center in India reading you a prompted script of shit. He tells me house still shows available next day I look it up on the MLS and it was sold the day before and boom its off their website. Then they email me and say well we have 1 application ahead of you so if you want to reapply for another house please go back to our site. I wouldn't be surprised if this company just picks houses just listed for sale and acts like they are their property managers and once the house is sold they pretend like applications were ahead of you!!! SUCH A SCAM!!!!! read more

We noticed our shower was leaking into the laundry room downstairs. It sounded like it was pouring rain and we could see the water pouring from the ceiling. I immediately called it in as we didn't want any water damage especially considering this is a rental house. I called the emergency maintenance service line and they took the work order. By Friday I still had not received a call so I put in another work order myself. We got to Monday and still no call so I had to call again and that's when they told me it could take 5-7 to schedule for someone to come out. I was told that water coming from our ceilings was not a top priority even if there was water damage and even though it meant we weren't able to use our showers. They finally called me to schedule someone to come out Wednesday morning at 8:30am. I made sure someone could be home. It wasn't until 9:30am that Jake called me to inform me he wouldn't be there until 11 or a little sooner. While I understand things happen, we had to take off work to make sure someone could be home for him to show up and then he wants to show up over 2 hours later. 12:30pm came around and he was a no show still. Jake did not end up coming until almost 2pm. Considering we all work and we have to take off to be home, that's really inconsiderate. This isn't the first time Jake has done this to us. The previous time he was supposed to be out from 3-4pm. He called me at 4:30pm to say he couldn't make it. It was never rescheduled. Jake has never been out when he is scheduled to do so and while I understand things come up and sometimes you need to arrive later, there should be communication about it. For it to happen every time he'a scheduled to come out is unprofessional. Not to mention that I was told water coming from our ceiling wasn't a top priority. This is a rental house. I'm not sure the owner would be happy knowing water has been leaking from the ceiling for the last week because they don't view this has a high priority. I've been consistently disappointed with my services from First Key and this isn't my first time renting. I'm not sure I'll ever go through First Key homes again. read more

Do not rent from FirstKey Homes, it is a giant corporation that just wants your money but will not fulfill any obligations they have with you. I have had work orders not fixed now for weeks, they will give you the run around on the phone, transferring you from worker to worker, apologizing, sendind emails to the manager and so on.... but still not complete the work that is suppose to be done. The miami office especially is a joke! The outside companies they hire are a joke, pretty much any man with a truck and tool box will show up at your house (or may not even show up) THey do the least amount of work possible and pass it on to the next person, leaving you to have to call the company day after day trying to get answers. I finally got in touch with a manager from the Miami office, he was suppose to call me back with answers.. did not, with my persistance i got him on the phone finally. He guaranteed him coming out, so i took off the day to meet with him and go over everything they did not fix... waited around for hours with no call/no show from the manager of the office!!! next day came around, I had to reach back out to them to get an answer... still no answer!!! But in the meantime, i keep gettting emails from them asking about my rent renewal... ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I will not sign my lease again with this company, especially when they do not care! i will bring my money elsewhere. EXPECT to get no answers, run arounds, and literally no help. THis company is ran like a joke, no one has any clue whats going on. read more

Do not rent from here ever. They suck so bad. Nobody knows what the fuck they are doing. They dont answer the phones and when they do the transfer you all around without even telling you you're being transferred. When we initially moved in they set our day on a holiday and still charged us even though we did not receive our keys. We got release forms from the building and then they told us the forms were invalid and we had to do it through docusign so why the f would they give us the paper? A company full of idiots. 100/10 wouldn't reccomend. read more

Scott S. i noticed you reply to these review so im hoping you can help me. My property was switched over from Sylvan homes to first key homes. Since then I have had nothing but bad luck. I want to be able to change my review and give your office 5 stars but where we are now it is a 1 star review. My name is Jaime and i have been trying since July to create a portal to pay online and now my lease renewal needs to be done by 8/20. I have been trying for days using the phone system and online chat options to get in contact with some. I finally received a response on 8/12/21 from Sallay Chanchan where i was just advised to call the phone number 866-924-0466. This will now be my 5th time calling this number and trying to get some assistance with creating my portal. I feel no one is taking me serious and im simply trying to accept the lease agreement and just live in peace. At this point im begging for help. read more

Slum lords at its best! Doesn't deserve any stars! Had raw sewage in my basement this happened in September! To make a long story short It's January 2019 and my basement is still not done! All I've have gotten is many excuses and I understand your frustration, but in the meantime we need your $1700 dollar rent! What a joke! In September I had raw sewage come up through my toilet and tub in my basement, I put in a maintenance call, and the plumber didn't show up until 3 days later. Later that day First Key sent out a person to asset the damages, and test the water to see if it was contaminated and to determine what grade of contamination of the water. I was told the water was grade 3, and that we should stay out the basement any shoes, clothes, etc that was worn or even touched the floor at that point should be thrown out immediately! He also instructed me to not touch anything that they had a team that will come with the right suits and gear to remove everything out of the basement in a couple of days. Well the couple of days never happened! No one contacted me after the 4th day I had no choice but to clean this contaminated water, and feces yes feces myself due to the smell that was taking over my entire house. I contacted First Key again to ask when was someone coming to take care of this mess, and someone by the name of Julian told me he had no idea this wasn't done, and he will jump on this asap, and since it was not taken care of expeditiously, and had to start the clean up on my own expense that I would not have to pay October rent. That was fine with me thinking that now this problem would be taken care of quickly after this yea right! October came and gone now it was November I'm calling again no one at this point still haven't contacted me about the situation. So I call again talk to another person still nothing. I call to pay November rent while paying rent I inquire about my basement again at this point mold and mildew is present, still nothing finally another person from First Key says they'll get back with me a week later finally someone calls and says that people are coming out to get the basement done. They show up 6 days before Thanksgiving they tore out walls, floors, toilet, and sink. Put up about 8 industrial fans along with purifiers in which kept blowing fuses almost literally ever couple of minutes, so I call they come back to try to plug up the fans in other outlets, and end up running cords from any and everywhere including running cords from my upstairs. Was told it would take 4 days to get everything done and back together. In my mind I'm like that's fine it will be complete for Thanksgiving since I'm hosting that would be great! Ha come to find out when they came back 4 days later it was just to pick the equipment up, and that some one else will contact me to start putting the basement back together! Thanksgiving was in 2 days I had relatives coming from out of town, and all First Key can tell me was sorry, but we meant it was 4 days for the fans to just run in the house! Now it's December I'm calling constantly, and keep getting the same response someone will get back with you never happened. At this point o have no walls in basement, toilet, sink literally it's a construction site! But I start getting calls asking when I'm paying my rent really!!! You can't be serious you can contact about that, but not for this situation that's going on! It's Christmas in a week still nothing had been done again my Holidays are shot totally! So I get a phone call December 20 maybe from First Key for someone to tell me that the contractor will be at my home on the 26th of December at this point my heating bill is outrageous due to me trying to keep my house heated due to the walls I don't have! I ask Brooke I'm guessing the manager of the Chicagoland office about compensating me for December rent or even taking some money off I was told by Brooke that she will have to see what can be done. Now this was asked by me in November she never returned my calls, so on December 28th i call the office, and she tells me there's nothing she can do about December rent, and she feels they were generous for compensation of October rent! Now I'm livid because you telling it was generous really of someone to do that for me, after I went in this contaminated basement risking my health and well being to clean up feces!!! Generous so I was suppose to leave this in my basement, and wait for First Key to take care of it, but there's nothing generous about this situation at all! So Brooke calls on the December 28th to let me know that I will have to pay December rent along with January rent, and can't accept any rent unless both are paid at the same time! Fast Forward to today January 14, 2019 my basement is still as I say under construction! Like I said above Slum lords at its best!! The most unprofessional, unethical people I've ever had to deal with!!! read more

DONT RENT FROM FIRSTKEY HOMES! Save yourself. Nothing but problems since moving in. Mis- Leading information on properties From the company ! Refrigerator issues from not freezing my food to Lying about when it would arrive ! had to get a replacement When first moving in, sliding doors with no locks at all had to beg with other complaints to get something done! SPIDERS and Ants everywhere no matter the cleaning. House was not cleaned properly at all. Toliets not properly working, Shower running when the water is off. Oven replacement in a whole and it didn't even fit it's smaller than a average for a family of 4. Every maintenance request has been met with some cheap fix. Not one day not to have to stress about something in the house and I have been here since May 16. No responsibility for their properties. 24 maintenance is a joke. Rude Customer Service Reps, Rude employees all around like they are not the property managers. Run arounds from multiple people. Save you and your family from the headaches of Firstkey. read more

After reading comments decided should have read them before renting our home. Walk thru issues ignored, we have been filing the same work orders since 2 weeks after moving in. We've gotten 3 things fixed. Thrash in the yard that during walk thru told they would clean it up, nope husband is working for days to clean it up. Dishwasher stinks and don't work, fridge no ice maker, missing a drawer, and shelf. We've had 2 besides the walk thru guy come out take pictures of the holes in the siding the water damage in master bathroom that's still leaking, rotting threshold, rotting support beams on the carport and in on on on and on, spoke to property manager 10 days ago 2 guys named Cedric Came out one, picked up a little pile of crap my husband has gotten out of the back yard. The other fixed leaking sink in master bathroom and replace faucet in kitchen. Did another work request only for someone to cancel it. Just submitted another work request so we shall see! This is terrible customer service for the $$$$ we pay to rent these houses. read more

Horrible company. Worst experience that I have ever had with a leasing company or rental. I'm not paying rent again until everything is fixed in the house. I suggest that everyone else who has issues with their rental also withhold payment until the problems have been fixed. Money is the only thing that they care about so start talking their language. Also seek legal counsel and be prepared for a court battle as I am. read more

Run far away!!! I would not send my worst enemy to first key homes! The day I was supposed to sign my lease the rent went up by $350 and they had the nerve to tell me that they can change the rates whenever they want to! I waited five weeks for them to finish renovating the home. My family had no place to live bc of this company and the refused to go back to the original rate they told me when I applied. They also refused to return my application fees after lying to me and promising my family a home! I even called corporate and they never returned my call! The absolute WORST company EVER! They should be SHUT DOWN! It's sad the way they treat people! read more

HORRIBLE!!!! I rented a unit initially from a company called Claritas. However First Keys took over & I rented from them for 6 years & paid ON TIME every month for the duration. Left the unit in excellent condition with miniMac wear & tear. I informed them months in advance i was looking to buy my 1st home & so the Property Manager explained that if I terminated early what the terms would be which at that time she mentioned a 60 days notice. However, Time past & I did not close on my home until the very end of my lease. I paid in FULL for the entire lease. When I provided them with a 30 days notice that as of April 1, 2021 I will be moving out & not resigning I got hit with not giving them a 60 days notice. I just find this to be quite unfair if you are not renewing. What ever happened to a 30 days notice which is what was mentioned in the section to for a security deposit to be returned WOW... so not only did they take my security deposit for that reason BUT I owe them $300 or so more to cover the month of MAY 2021. UNBELIEVABLE! It doesn't pay to be a good tenant & leave the unit in excellent condition. I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND FIRST KEYS TO ANYONE. Lesson learned!!! read more

This is the most difficult process to get in an application. Their website did not work for a day, so that set me back into getting an application. Finally was able to upload documents and waited 2 days to hear back. Heard nothing so I called and the woman helping was not in the office, was sent to vm and it was of course full. Have yet to hear anything. NOW my agent is telling me they need the same documents I uploaded to be sent again!! This is absolutely absurd and they should really do a better job at helping their clients. read more

I first would like to say, this is the WORST company I have ever dealt with in my life. I have had massive, continuous problems with the home I have been renting but due to trying to save money, I continued to renew foolishly. Moving is such a stress and burden, that I figured I can tolerate some of the headaches I have had to endure during the first few years of renting this home, however, a month after signing my most recent lease renewal, things took a turn for the worse. For four days straight, it rained and for four days straight water kept seeping into the home. The AWFUL FKH mince. technician was as useful as a piece of chewing gum on the floor. The water was coming in from TWO foundation cracks that FKH didn't take care of until FOUR months later and that's only because the city is now involved with the livability of this home. Not only was the foundation a problem, I have dealt with a roof completely going down on one side of the house, infinite amount of fence repairs (literally falling apart but all they do is put more plywood and nails on it), and the never ending plumbing issues that this house continues to have. At this point, I just want to be able to shower and not worry about the main line backing up and ruining everything on the bottom floor. I currently pay rent for an entire house, and the downstairs is half vacated since I was so tired of replacing my belongings due to FKH not taking care of the issue long-term. Every time I have tried to talk to someone about the ongoing issues, I either get put on a massive run around, transferred to someone who never answers, have to leave a voicemail, and never get a call back. Or I get told that "I can't do anything about it until it happens again". Well how many times does "it have to happen again" until we realize the dozens of previous times you have come out to fix the problem you haven't solutioned the real issue! I have sent emails to the head of maintenance and the property manager to not get any response back. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy and I plan to never rent from them again. FirstKey Homes, you sent repair men out to this home and they are dishing out your dirty secrets. My favorite is when one told me that they do the minimum that they can do so they avoid paying for permit fees through the city. That is exactly what every tenant wants to hear!! You guys are money hungry and I hope your revenue falls so low due to your poor properties, lack of upkeep on maintenance, and poor, poor, POOR customer service. You guys keep at it, I can almost guarantee you that you will no longer be in business in 10-20 years. read more

Do NoT rent from this company, they are thieves and liars. They don't follow the law. Florida statue 83.49 states the landlord has 15 days to return your deposit if they are not withholding any funds for damages. I received the letter 27 days later stating that I will be getting my deposit back in full, we are now 35 days in and still nothing. You call and get transferred and each and every person gives you a different story. At this point I'm tried of the BS. I will be contacting the better business buerau and an attorney, to sue them for breech of contract. There customer services is the worst no one returns calls and they just don't care about their renters. What has me even angier is that I'm fighting them for MY money. As for those who state all is well, just you wait. All the negative reviews can be wrong and I know there not. read more

They're only getting one star from me but only because giving 0 stars wasn't an option. I have to laugh because I was turned down by them for a house in a run down subdivision that has definitely seen better days (I'll refrain from naming it) for a house that was just about as run down, even after it was "made ready" for new tenants (trying to save money, lol), and 4 hours later was approved for a rental in Avery Park and a rental Parkside Village at $200 and $300 more a month than what their property was listed at. All they could tell me about why I was turned down was that my Core Logic score was not high enough. They couldn't even tell me how the score is configured. No one at First Key Homes even looks at the application nor do they have any idea what's on it, they simply go by the Core Logic score, period. They actually did me a favor. We'll be moving to Avery Park this weekend. Save yourself the hassle and go with a legit company that works and thinks for themselves. read more

I put in an application 15 days before they reached out to me to ask for a missing pay stub that I had already submitted on their website. I had to constantly keep calling their general phone number to get some information on my application and they just kept giving me different dates as to when my application would be processed. The last phone call I had with them they had told me that the place I applied for was already rented out and they provided me a phone number to a leasing agent. The phone number they gave me was a non working number, so I basically got scammed $100 in application fees and never heard anything back from them. Please do not work with these people, it's not worth looking at a nice property if they're not doing there job as a realtor management company. Every time I called it would take more than 30 minutes to get an answer and the website doesn't work, save yourself some time and look for something better! read more

Okay. I have been renting for 20 years. I've had good and bad experiences with companies and private landlords. I do have to say this company is a little unorganized and hard to reach as far as certain issues. I've had some Maintenece problems such as- plumbing, screens, and smaller issues. The screens and smaller issues took about a month for them to get back to me. The plumbing took a day. I called at 7:30 am and had it was resolved the next day. I kept calling the Maintenece line. (I rent but treat the property as my own so I am kind of anal when it comes to houses.) They ended up fixing it within a day and everything is fine. We had a Maintenece guy named Matthew come out for the smaller issues. He went ABOVE AND BEYOND. He saw things and took it upon himself to repair them. (Nothing major but I am OCD and it would've eventually bothered me.) I rate them a four because they do get back to you and everything I have asked for has been fixed. The only reason it's not a five is because honestly it's hard to reach certain people and I had to figure a lot out for myself. (Example- I couldn't figure out whether the house was natural gas, propane, or electric.) I live in Georgia. Overall, I've been satisfied. *Over time I will update my review if needed. I've lived here for 2 months. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!! I wish I would have read these reviews before renting from this company! I, just like almost everyone else here, have had nothing but issues with them from day one. I have only been in my home since Saturday; though I can't LIVE in my home yet as there is STILL no hot water, and I had to shut off the water at the main due to a leak. I had a walk through of the home Friday before move in and a LOT of issues were taken down by the inspector to which none seem to be getting resolved. The only issues that have been taken care of is the AC was repaired the evening of move in day and the yard has been marked for a fence. But I still have swarms of bees going under my siding on the outside of the room my children sleep in, a water leak somewhere in my walls that flooded out my downstairs hallways and back of my kitchen, the electric is a JOKE due to dead plugs and shorting damn near every time someone plugs something in from an outdated breaker box. I have called maintenance literally 20 times in the last 2 days. Left message after message. Sent emails to every contact from the company that I have. And guess what?! I still have no hot water, I still have a leak, and I still can't live in my home I paid for! I just keep being told "we see your request, someone will contact you" and that "emergency maintenance will be bumped to the top"..... But apparently an emergency isn't bees, it isn't a water leak, and forget about having hot water (which legally in the state of Texas, no hot water is considered not habitable!). So at this point, I have paid prorated rent for a home I can't even live in due to the condition. I get told "someone will be in contact with you immediately" but yet nobody of any significance has contacted me. I know my rights as a tenant and I know the lease I signed stated the house would be in a habitable condition; it most definitely is NOT. I have a vent hood over my stove/oven that does not even work! My refrigerator is busted up and missing a handle ( which I know isn't required to supply per Tx law, but when you tell a tenant that you will provide a new refrigerator, do it!) There is so much more I could keep tearing into these people for hours! I am already debating on terminating my lease on the accord that the home is NOT habitable. But I am SURE that will be a nightmare with this company as well! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!! They will be nice and forthcoming until you sign that lease and pay your fees. Everything after that will be a nightmare! read more

Mike from from First Key Chicago came out and spent the entire day at our home fixing everything that was needed. He installed a new patio screen door, fixed the bathroom towel bar, cleaned out 10 feet of birds nests from the outside vents and installed screens so it doesn't happen again, he made new screens for bathroom, kitchen and 3 bedrooms. He even figured out why the dishwasher was not working. He was very polite and respectful and nice to talk to. I appreciate everything he did and the time he spent doing it. Thanks Mike! I have lived in the same house going on 3 years now and First Key Homes is the 4th Property management company we've had while living there. It's been inconvenient going back and forth but all of our needs were met with the other company's. When we were switched over to this company it was instant disappointment we received no notifications from the company on where to pay rent/ put in maintenance request etc. When we finally figured out where to call to pay rent it took over an hr of holding and transferring the call back and forth to finally speak with someone who could take our payment. It has not been any easier since. They were pretty quick to send us a renewal lease with a heafty raise in rent yet when it comes to communication you'll be lucky if you get to talk to a person about anything period! Currently I am waiting for a response to my Emergency maintenance request that I put in 4 days ago and have called and left emails to every line each day I don't hear from someone with no answers and or call backs. So, they finally sent someone out and fixed the plumbing. And when the plumber located the problem our whole front yard had to be dug up. Now the landscaping is ruined and we are surrounded by mud. On top of that my family had extra expenses from the plumbing and caused us to be late with rent. They were so fast to post an eviction notice on our door and we didn't even get an apology or no one called to say how they were going to fix the landscape. So not only were we out of using our plumbing for a whole week, we had to pay late fees on our rent and be humiliated by having an eviction notice posted on our front door! They are so quick to want their money for rent, but don't know how to respond to an emergency maintenance request! read more

Well, unfortunately, this is my 2nd negative review of First key homes. When I first moved in last year there were many issues (AC not working, carpet not being replaced, bad communication, etc) and none of those issues were solved until after much run around. After that incident, aside from a few maintenance issues I did not have many problems and even renewed my lease because I love the home. Well, shortly after renewing the lease I noticed that my AC unit was again having issues. My bedroom was becoming extremely hot and I was having to turn the temperature to below 70 degrees so that I could sleep comfortably. This was affecting my electric bill and causing it to sky rocket so I put in a maintenance request. The maintenance worker came in, noticed that it was hot and suggested that with an additional vent the room would be cooler; but in order to do that I would need the approval from the property manager. So, I put in a maintenance request and asked that the property manager contact me. After not hearing anything I reached out to Lisa Junek (property manager) via email and she informed me that I had a new property manager, whose name is Naomi Boothe and that she would let her know about my concerns related to the AC unit. After having the AC company come out twice and confirm that it was hot in my bedroom but not installing a vent, due to the property manager I spoke to the maintenance manager and she informed me that Naomi would not approve my request for a new vent. I was upset about this and more so because Naomi had not responded to my multiple requests to get back to me by either email or phone. The maintenance manager even confirmed that she, too, had emailed her and asked her to reach out to me. The AC company came out and shortened the pipe line which helped a little bit but it is still hot in my bedroom. To make matters worse, last Friday, 8/16/19 I received a bill for $489.00 for trash which this is the FIRST notice that I have received regarding trash. I spoke with the trash company and the admitted that this was the first bill that they have processed for me and that I would need to contact my property manager to see what went wrong. Of course, I have been trying to speak to Naomi and each time I call no one will give me a phone number to reach her. I have emailed several times to no avail. I am so disappointed in how communication is handled in this company and the lack of respect for renters. I am truly regretting my decision to renew my lease and have contacted my lawyer to see what legal action I may need to take, if any. read more

If I could give this company no stars, I would. From the start of the application process until currently a couple days after move in- everything has been a nightmare. Communication is non-existent on their end, and when you call and have to harass them to get anything done, the communication is completely unprofessional. Just one of the many examples: one of the leasing agents told me she was sending us an email regarding signing our lease, when I asked her when she sent the email she said: "Oh well when I say that I sent it, I may have just thought in my head that I sent it. I'll send it now." This was one of dozens of examples of unprofessional-ism during the application process. We moved in and low and behold the HVAC system is not functioning at ALL. One would think this would be one of the first things a leasing company would check to make sure the house is move in ready. Day 4 now with no heat or air and no idea when it will be fixed. I am a nurse and if I neglected my responsibilities in my job like these people do, someone would be seriously hurt or injured. If we had not already signed a lease I would be looking for another company to go with. Stay away if you want to keep your sanity. read more

When I first found the property I rented with FirstKey I was excited to move in. The move in process was simple and the way they handled move in walk through inspection made it seemed like they actually cared and I had a chance of getting my deposit back in the end. Boy was I wrong. After a couple months of living there I had multiple encounters with maintenance staff and let me tell you they have no idea what they're doing. We had frogs coming through the toilets which led to plumbing getting clogged. Needless to say when I called maintenance to take care of the plug bc I had no working toilets they did not fix it even though they thought they did. After several failed attempts to contact them or the office (because it's impossible to actually get ahold of these people), I called an actual plumber. An hour later and $200 later out of my pocket the plumber fixed the problem bc not having a single working toilet is not okay. This is not something you would ever expect to have to deal with as a renter, but you better get used to it if you plan on renting through FirstKey. Come move out time the house looked better than when I moved in yet they still found any and all reasons to take the outrageous deposit they required to begin with. After charging almost $1200 to repaint the whole house even though the house needed paint prior to move in, which I had pictures proving this. The deposit was more than one months rent. I should have known something was up. Don't rent from these crooks unless you don't care about losing a lot of money and living in pest infested homes. read more

This company is just brutal. The day I was to move in no one was available to give me keys, the home hadn't been cleaned, the water to half the home didn't work because they didn't hired an unlicensed plumber to do a repair. The first week, the tile fell off the wall in the shower and there was an ant infestation behind what was left of the tile. The home had a high radon level and they hired an unlicensed person to install a radon mitigation system that was completely illegal. There was no power to the garage at move in. The garage door fell off the first month. The home had flooded in the past, they hired someone to install a drain tile and they did it inside the home instead of outside. Every time it rained hard, water seeped up through the basement floor. Upon moveout, after giving them a 5 month notice, they refused to refund my security deposit. Stay FAR away from these people, they only cater to rats. read more

If I could give this company zero stars I would. Completely unprofessional from start to finish in finding our home. First we applied for a home out in Blue Springs, MO and was told we got approved. Well I get a phone call the next day that we in fact did not get the home and that we are now pre-approved for up to 2460/mo home. So the search continues! We found another property that was in an ideal location in Lee's Summit, MO however when I arrived the key wasn't in there and part of the serial code was broken off. Jasmine (sorry if I spelled wrong) was the agent I spoke to and she was a huge help in reporting the incident and assuring me it would be taken care of. It took 10 days for them to finally get the key in and by that time our window had closed and sadly we had to make another application. Thinking since we got pre-approved before that this would be no problem we submitted another app for 50 a piece boy were we stupid as hell. We have now been denied for the home even though it was cheaper than the previous one we applied for. I tried to get answers from Breonna but she was highly unprofessional and of no help at all so if you get her just find another person don't waste your time. I tried talking to Mark (her boss) about our situation and even then it was scripted customer service talk and they always apologize for the inconvenience so needless to say I nor anybody else I know will be renting from this company. Thank you to Emily, Cynthia, and Jasmine for the lovely attitudes and the sympathy for our situation we truly appreciate you guys caring about finding us a home and I just wish the rest of your team did as well. read more

My father in law in renting a home from firstkey in Tamarac Fl. He has only been living here for about 4 months now. it has been a nightmare. They don't want to fix anything that break. When he first moved in his ice maker was not working. a guy came out from a different compny to have a look at it. 2 days after he came out the fridge stopped working altogether. I called them so much I lost track. I had to go to the office. when I went to the office they said that they had idea we needed a fridge. which is bull. then they told me that it would be brought out in 2 to 3 days . well it took almost 2 weeks. my father in law lost ALL his food that was in the fridge and freezer. I took him food shopping and saved his receipt...when they finally brought the fridge the guy dragged it across the floor and scrathed it all up . I have pictures of that as well. This is crazy and not fair at all.. only gave a 1 star so i could leave a review. read more

Doing business with FirstKey Homes has been a terrible experience for me. I have encountered the most unreliable, unorganized and unprofessional service from day one. My roommate and I applied for a property that was supposedly move-in ready. Once we signed the lease and arranged the premove-in inspection with Art who is with maintenance, I thought it would be clear from there. Once the water was turned on, there was a noticeable crack in the floor in the wall on the lower level where water poured out from the floor and began to flood the lower level. I decided to try another rental property with this company. Upon the move-in inspection that occurred a few days before my move-in date with Darrell at the second rental property, he was unable to turn on the water at the time because he couldn't get to the water valve. Also, the mailbox had been knocked down at the property. However he assured us that he would have the water on within a couple of days and definitely before our move-in date. He completed his inspection but I never received a copy of it like he promised. The day before my move-in, I decided to go to the office to check on any progress and simultaneously pay my first month's rent. To no surprise, I discovered that his report had not been submitted and they hadn't addressed the water issue. I spoke with Shoy and maintenance personnel who advised they could have the water turned on as soon as this afternoon but the maintenance tech would let me know once he has it turned on. Of course I didn't receive any follow up so I sent an email to inquire about the progress. I received confirmation from the front desk on my moving day that the water was on and soon after I received an email from Property Management that the water would not be on until 2/4. Since I had to move on this day, I had no choice but to pack up my belongings and head to the property. Upon arrival, my roommate discovered that the water was in fact on and had been running all day in both of the bath tubs. So much water was running out the faucets that the tubs overflowed and completely saturated the carpet in this ranch style home. We immediately contacted the office and were able to get in contact with the maintenance manager. The only options we were given were to look at other properties or to get a refund. A technician who would handle the emergency water issue was called to inspect the damage while my roommate and I had to scramble to find alternative means of lodging and place a house full of belongings. I went back the next day to check the condition and saw that there were fans set up but the carpet was still very wet with water soaking through my shoes. Seven days after my move-in date, I am still unable to move into the home until the repairs are completed. I have expressed my disappointment and reiterated my desire for a refund instead of moving into a home that is unsafe to move into because I am highly allergic to mildew and mold. Despite having gone through being displaced from a home and not getting replies from my emails and voicemails left to address my concerns, I am being blocked from receiving a full refund. Nothing short of this would suffice for my time taken and terrible inconvenience I have suffered from not having a place to live. Please, if life hasn't got you down and you still have any belief in human decency, don't rent from them or they will take it away. read more

All of these reviews are absolutely correct - First Key Homes is the worst property management company. I work as a property manager and manage student housing complexes. I completely understand the responsibilities of a landlord and how to provide support and customer service in this industry. I am appalled at the way I have been treated and embarrassed to work in the same industry. I moved in about a week ago and have had a nightmare of a time trying to get anything resolved or be shown some compassion. Just a few things to mention: First of all, don't expect for First Key to have time to show you around the home, they have self guided tours. Sounds great but that's their first step at locking you into their hellish lease (aka - no chance to ask any questions to the landlord about the house). If you have a question - you get to call their contact center in Georgia after you sit on hold for 10 - 20 minutes every time you call. As a renter, I don't expect to have to ask if a home will have cable outlets and Internet outlets in bedrooms/living rooms or if the home will have a disposal in the kitchen sink (I saw a switch by the sink and figured that was the disposal and checked it off my list), or check that the built in microwave has a ventilation duct to extract smoke when cooking on my stovetop and blow it outside the house (nope! it's just built in and hung crooked for looks). You would think because you are alive and renting in 2018, that your home you are about to RENT comes with coax cable outlets and ethernet ports - NOPE! They stripped them out of the entire house and explained that it's the tenant's responsibility and expense to get with your service provider to get those installed after you get the landlords permission for the cable company to drill holes throughout the home. We moved in and found our Internet cable CUT and dangling from our basement window. To this day, I still cannot have cable boxes in my home. First Key's response was to check section 23 of my lease that speaks about utilities and how I the tenant am responsible for MONTHLY charges of any utility charges. Of course I am responsible for the service charges, but I cannot even USE the service for which I set up and am paying for when there are NO OUTLETS to plug into to receive the service! That's like setting up electricity but removing every outlet in the home and saying it's my responsibility as someone renting for one year to install. It's insane and makes absolutely no sense for a tenant to be responsible for. Let's get to the worst part - I moved into the house being COVERED in someone else's filth! Pee stains on every toilet, a used soap bar and black soap scum stained tub, hair/beard shavings/nail clippings/dust in every bathroom and medicine cabinet. Food bits left in the oven, microwave, kitchen sink, and freezer and ice tray. Absolutely disgusting and was completely missed by First Key homes. Obviously I was upset and emailed my leasing agent about what I found on Sunday May 27th. She replied immediately and said she forwarded my concerns to the Regional Manager. Given this was Memorial Day weekend, I didn't expect a reply on Monday but Tuesday morning or before noon given I would have to live in this filth over the weekend and it should have been completed by First Key on May 23rd, my lease start date. Having not heard from the Regional Manager by 12 pm, I asked for her contact information. I emailed her at 2 pm asking for a reply on what her plan was to rectify this. I called her at 3 pm and 4 pm and left voicemails. Still no reply. I called my leasing agent and asked her to reach out to Christine Watkins, RM, and call me before she leaves for the day. She didn't. She emailed me at 4:45 pm with the most passive response: "I am sorry that your move in experience did not go as expected. It is our policy to present a clean home upon move in, so I am very sorry for any mess you encountered" ANY mess?! This wasn't just a couple dust bunnies around the house, it was disgusting and foul and not worth the over $2600 I had already paid them. I was not worth her time to call. I was not worth her time to come out to my property to walk it with me and show face. I was not worth her time to show any compassion or empathy for the mistake her company made and that her team dropped the ball on. I asked to be released from lease given their several lies of omission, to be told that wouldn't be possible, but good luck getting internet and cable in your home. Expecting to move into a home with Internet/Cable outlets? Not their policy. Expecting to move into a clean home? Won't happen. Expecting to have disposal in your kitchen sink? Not their policy. Expecting to have anyone care about your legit concerns? Not their policy! What is their policy? Take as many short cuts and cheap investments to benefit First Key and inconvenience the tenant by placing the responsibility on them. From, another helpless tenant of First Key Homes read more

Allow me to set the scene for you. My husband and I had an accepted application offer for a house in Indiana. However, we were having issues with the property generating in his account so he could sign the lease. No property, no lease. No signature, no house. Prior to this technical issue we received a phone call from Laura giving us the good news of our accepted application and that she would be our move-in coordinator. The best part is that Laura sent in a few maintenance tickets for us. This is normally a task that residents are responsible upon move-in. Thank you Laura for your hospitality and compassion it was a warm welcome to your community! Although, Laura was very sweet she is not the reason I am leaving this review. I will take you thru 72 hours of stress and frustration to tell you why I am giving FirstKeyHomes five stars, even though we almost did not rent from them. Signing the lease and paying first months rents needs to be done within the first 48 hours. Not a problem. Within the first 24 hours I sign the lease and wait for that to go through so I could pay first months rent. I receive an email stating my husband needs to sign the lease. I should have been reading things betters but this can be easily completed. Except it couldn't. We cannot get the property to generate on my husbands account, because his email was entered wrong. Laura puts in an IT ticket to get it changed and resends the lease. This is where the story should end. Unfortunately, we still have another 24 hours of misery to go. Laura's ticket to IT does not fix the problem. At this point I'm frustrated and concerned, because our move-in is 8 days away. I leave work to try to resolve this. My husband and I are not yet residents, meaning there is nothing IT can do for us except direct us back to their "Move-In Coordinators". Then Sharalyn Moore enters the picture. My husband and her have a conversation on the phone and she assures us that we will not lose the house even through our 48 hours is up. She needs to explore the issue further and call us back tomorrow. Promptly, at 9am, Sherelyn calls and tells me that the issue is resolved and we are good to go. We hang up and I go to sign the lease. The issue is still not resolved. I call IT who direct us back to a "Move-In Coordinator" who will contact us soon. While I wait to be contacted, I email Laura and Libby to update them and see if there is anything I can do to help move this process along while we wait. Laura and Libby attempt to help by resending the lease to both my husband and I. On my account I am getting the error code, "cannot sign lease until it is ready". I then receive an email from Benjamin telling me my request has been updated. The issue is still not fixed and I call IT again hoping that someone is still working to help resolve the issue. They are not. I am again directed to another Move-In Coordinator, Sara, and she gives me her number. At this point I have given up. I have begun searching for a new house to rent that is not with FirstKeyHomes. It is around 3pm when Sharalyn calls to see how everything is going. She hears my frustrations and anxieties; she treats me like a person, not the problem. Sharalyn is amazing! Over the next hour she personally walks me through the error codes. "What happens when you click this?" , "What error code does it give you?", "Let me try something and then we will refresh." One by one we solve the issues. Through this phone call I have realized three things. First, this is not a part of her job description. She is going out of her way to help us. Secondly, she has been dealing with these technical issues all day, and this is a company wide issue. Sharalyn has been working with other clients to figure out these issues, which is why she knows how to help us. Finally, she is amazing at her job. I used to work in the tech field as customer service, and I know that you distract the client with conversation while you handle the hard part. In-between conversation you are giving detailed explanations to what you are doing so the client understands what you are trouble shooting. People feel unease when they don't know what's going on. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT SHE DID! It has also occurred to me that most "Move-In Coordinators" do not know how to trouble shoot these issues (because it is not in their job description) and are simply sending people to IT to handle it. Except, IT directs them back to the coordinators because they are not residences! My husband and I were stuck in the circle of " I will send you to somebody else to help you." until someone with exceptional hospitality skills stopped it! Sharalyn took initiative and did not wait for somebody else to solve the problem! If it wasn't for her I would have gone somewhere else. Not only is she the reason for this five star review, but she has saved you at least two clients by just taking the time to be present until the issues got resolved. GIVE THIS WOMAN A RAISE! read more

Don't Do It! Run... Scam Artists Alert!!! Rent Elsewhere... Thank Me Later!!! So, first off, I'm not one to write reviews even when I have had a bad experience somewhere, but this is absolutely necessary. I rented a home from First Key Homes on Jennifer Lane in Arlington, TX for over a year. We always paid our rent on time including utilities. However, I had to break my lease 2 months prior to our lease expiration due to the purchase of our new home. We paid through our 60 day notice and the lease break fee (equal to 3months) even though we vacated in January 2021. I asked for assistance with these fees and possibly waiving them as it was a lot of money for a home we are not living in. Hoping to leverage off of the fact that due to our commitment to paying on time during COVID despite the pandemic; however, NO help there... Ok, cool, it is what it is with that, you all are not willing to assist us in being great. Whatever, Fine! Fast forward to after move out. I log into the portal to view and pay my final account statement and to my surprise, I have over a $1000 balance! WTH???? At this point I'm confused as we left the house in a better condition than we received it. Not to mention I was charged for a smoke detector that I had already discussed was missing at the beginning of my lease. And when I say, they were so unorganized at move in, nothing was scheduled including the walk through, cleaned, nor repaired (broke dishwasher, leak under cabinets, plumbing issues, roof leak leading into one of the bedroom closets which I'm sure there was mold present- hazardous to our health (but they didn't care enough to fix it, electrical issues like whoa... You couldn't plug 2 things in the wall at the same time without it flipping the breaker. Half the house would go without lights for weeks at a time. This was never repaired btw, and the list continues on and on) all discussed prior to our move in date and or at move in with a rep of First Key Homes. I was reassured this stuff would be completed prior to our move in date and the home would be sparkled/cleaned and repairs completed. Low and behold nothing was touched from my original walk through and listed concerns. After several service requests and vendors, including techs coming out, the issues still persist in the home. I had taken many photos so I knew this to be true. The same dead bugs I saw at viewing, were the same dead bugs and dirty appliances I saw at move in a month later . Anyway, no use of crying over spilled milk. Back to this over $1000 balance. So, of this balance over $900 of it is utilities... Ok, so now, I'm really confused as I'm thinking they have lost there minds and this has to be a mistake. I called and it's the same old scripted BS about your usage changed/increased?! So, looking at the charges a little closer, I see that my gas bill (btw only the stove was gas) has increased by almost 4 times as much ... Mind you, the entire last month (February 2021 including half of January 2021, me and my family were living in our new home. How the h*** our usage increased and we haven't even been there. I call BS. At this point I'm willing to post this on every social media outlet and wherever else including the BBB, because there is no way I owe First Key homes $700 worth of gas bills from the last months of stay. Not to mention the final month was the highest (February 2021)?????!!!!! Y'all are absolutely delusional and this unjust. Worst renting experience ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would highly recommend you run from this company immediately... Do not pass GO, do not pay the app fee nor deposit! Run!!! They will set you up, provide a crappie product and find a way to suck you dry and then say oh well, we screwed you! read more

I am so frustrated and extremely disappointed how this company handles serious issues. My basement flooded a few months ago and I dealt with it on my own. The carpet in bedroom was wet over the entire bedroom. I have a finished basement where I live, living room, bedroom and 1/2 bath. My roommate lives upstairs. Since then it flooded AGAIN and this time the ENTIRE basement. The way came up over the top of the carpet and around your shoes when you walked. They sent out someone to look at foundation and someone else to dry carpets and a few days later to clean them. They even installed NEW padding in one room. The foundation repairman said it needed a trench dug along two walls of the house and a sump pump installed. Every time I emailed or called I was told the foundation work order hadnt been approved but I was directly told I could move all my stuff back. (I had to completely empty two rooms for carpet to dry) I questioned this logic and was told again it was safe to put my bedroom furniture/bed back and my living room furniture back. It seemed a waste of money to clean a carpet and install new padding when the floor needed to be jackhammered to install trenches for drainage to the sump pump. Guess what? It rained a week later and the carpet got wet again! I emailed 4 people, Larry Angerman, Lauren Stanislaus, Amanda Schable and Akeeta Freeman that it leaked again and never got a response. I will say Akeeta was very pleasant, as are most that I have spoken to, but that doesn't solve my issue! My carpet has been wet for 4 days and I had to place towels over the water flooded carpet to soak it up, launder the towels and repeat this to get it where it wasn't soaking wet. The foundation repair man also said the gutters needed cleaning and the the perimeter of the house needed grading to help alleviate the flooding issues. Here we are 3 weeks later and nothing has been done except someone came to clean gutters after two weeks. I had to wash all my clothes in basement as they smelt of mildew. I had to throw some items away. I have ZERO use of most of my living area but have put a mattress on the flood to sleep as I don't want to set up my entire bed just to get wet. They seem to think this is ok. If I had wind damage and a door came off I am sure they would repair it ASAP. But since it's just a basement it doesn't deserve priority? THE BASEMENT IS WHERE I LIVE! We pay $1275 a month and are not getting what we deserve. There are NUMEROUS other issues and I have dealt with them myself. The yard was in hideous condition when we moved in in Feb. Giant branches all over the backyard that had accumulated. There was brush around the AC/Heating unit on side of the house that I had to clear myself. When I went to the Orientation at the office before we moved I was told someone would walk through the house WITH us. That wasn't done. It was left to us. And then when you don't notice something they put the onus on YOU to tell them in 30 days. I felt this was unfair and I should have spoke up THAT day but I did not. So many little things are left undone when you move in and if you don't catch them you are screwed! Now our rent is due in a few days and I have spent the entire month of July without half my house usable and have had to sleep on a couch or the floor. Very unacceptable! read more

I rented a home from First Keys back at the end of May 2020... This was after I spent over a month trying to get in contact with someone and no one would return my calls or emails. They still don't Shoy is amazing. Does everything possible to resolve situations. Other than that it has been a nightmare with appliances, work orders, and getting things done. The garbage disposal, dishwasher, oven, microwave, and furnace all had issues. I had weeds, poison ivy/oak (reported that before I moved in to them and they didnt get it fixed til September) and window leaked. The maintenance team dropped the ball on the dishwasher so it was delayed over a month getting fixed. The oven has been broken since July. I specifically got this house bc of the double oven appliance. I have stated this to the company multiple time, to the techs, to all of them since July. Now it is December and they now want to fix it by replacing it. 3 different techs have been out and stated it could be fixed and just needed a part and if that didnt work that I could speak with management to keep the double oven type when they order a new one. The vendor confirmed they had them. Management said no to the double oven feature. Why was I not told this back in July. Why wait til December? And why did it take til December to finally get this work order almost completed? No communication from them. I have had to call and email and run in circles trying to figure it out. The other managers and director never get back to me. And when they do, they dont answer my questions. The weeds and poison ivy/oak took until September to get fixed. We figured out that my son is allergic to poison ivy/oak...the hard way. He broke out and I had to take him to the hospital. I let First Keys know... No apologies, no rush to get this taken care. Shoy did try to push to get things done and tried to always find out what was going on. That is my main contact because she most of the time responds. But she can only do so much. The window leaked and they sent someone out to fix it. A few weeks later it is still leaking...floor is damaged. I made an order at the beginning of October... still no one has come to fix the leaking window...but they sent a floor vendor to fix the floor... but the floor vendor said not til the window is fixed. That was at the end of October... I am still waiting and have had no communication from anyone on what is going on... Plus Ill have to miss work because the window that is leaking is in my office and the window has to be replaced and then the floor has to be replaced. The furnace didn't work the first day it was cold. Took a few weeks to have the furnace replaced since they said there were cracks in it and it was a old furnace. I see many many bad reviews about First Key Homes. And for paying such a high amount in rent, you would think they would treat their tenants better. They have not offered any kind of compensation for all the problems I have had. The lack of communication, customer service, and the lack of effort is very disappointing. I would give Shoy 5 starts for the hard work. The rest 0-1 stars and in this economy, being there for people is important. read more

I'm giving 5 stars Only because of NATASHA ARRINGTON!! I've been in my Atlanta area home several years before FirstKey became my new property managing company and over all I have not had a good experience with several FirstKey departments that I've had to call for support, especially maintenance. Now that I'm leaving I can say these last few months has been even more of a roller-coaster of emotions for me. A month ago, I've had my belongings damaged in the inside of the attached storage of my townhouse. Maintenance came out and repaired the roof and ceiling, yet two weeks later it's messed up again in the same spots and still today the problem is on going. Not one person from FirstKey have said they'd pay for my damaged personal belongings that I cannot move out because it has mold as well as water damage to it. This is one of many factual examples of my experience and issue with this company. There's no support or help when I need especially when the problem is not my fault. This can be very overwhelming especially during my move out time. So, when I made the decision to move and to go through FirstKey's process of leaving, my first thought was, it's going to be a headache of no help or support just like it is being here. However, I've spoken with a wonderful woman named Mrs. Natasha Arrington. She has, so far, been one of the best people I've came across of someone who has communicated and tried to help me. I've expressed what's going on and she's assured me that my move out journey will be with her assistance the entire way and if there's anything she can do she will. Natasha has answered my calls every time I've reached out to her and I can say she has told the truth! As I've stated earlier about my bad experience with FirstKey, another problem was that as a resident here it's extremely hard to speak to someone especially anyone who can handle and deal with the problems that arise. We always get the runaround, meaning I call the 800# they take a message to give to someone and I wait for a response and nothing or I send several emails without getting replies. They have a third party calling system with no communication returned to me. That's frustrating... however, not this time with Natasha! She's kept her word and has always called me back when I needed. With her, so far so good. Thank you for that!! I can appreciate and respect someone who is honest and keeps their word. I will update later as my journey continues with Natasha, thanks lady. FirstKey, I hope you appreciate having Natasha Arrington on your team with her integrity and empathy who makes your customers feel like we matter and not just another paying address. She has excellent customer service skills and I hope you (FirstKey) get more people like her. Thank you for taking the time to read this, be blessed. read more

I have a new friend. So, there are those occasions when a service provided by an individual is worth mentioning and praising. Yesterday a gentleman called Darryl came to my home to take care of a couple of maintenance orders I had placed through the FirstKey Homes Website. I will elaborate on the flow of the events: He called in the morning to let me know that he was coming and to confirm the time. He was very well-spoken and courteous. During the day I learned that I was going to be running a little late, so I called Darryl to let him know. He had an understanding tone and was very flexible. When he got home, we discussed the issues that needed attention and he quickly went to tackle the first one: garbage disposal. The garbage disposal that he had at hand as a replacement was different from the one installed. He discussed with me a couple of ways to do the replacement, but in the process, he came up with a third option which happened to be the best one. He demonstrated resourcefulness and he also considered my opinion. The replacement worked like a charm and the first issue was completed. When going to the second issue (a bad shower door), he realized that it represented a risk (broken and came loose easily), and without hesitation, he agreed to my suggestion to remove it so we could replace it with a regular shower curtain. He performed the second task quickly and neatly. The faulty and dangerous shower door was removed, and I was happy. I will say that seldom do you come across a person like Darryl. We had a friendly conversation while he was performing his job. Not everybody technician likes to talk while performing a task. Darryl was courteous and respectful in his approach and considered my views and opinions on the issues that needed repair. Darryl was knowledgeable and resourceful. He knew what he was doing and when faced with a challenge, he came up with a solution that turned out to be the best. Que was quick and made sure that everything was clean and neat after he finished. I think I came across a person that loves what he does and enjoys interaction with people. You don't see much of that these days. I say that Darryl is a Rockstar and FirstKey homes is blessed to have a person like him on his staff. I was very pleased and felt very good about his visit and work. And just like that, I can say that Darryl is my new friend. Thank you, Darryl, you are amazing. I wish all companies and businesses had more people like you. You make this world better. Thanks. read more

FirstKey Homes is by far the worst company I've leased with. From the very beginning, my experience has been filled with frustration and disappointment. When I moved in, I discovered that the advertised working fireplace was non-functional because the gas lines had been disconnected and capped. This became a significant issue during the winter when my heating system failed, and the temperature inside the house dropped to 30-40 degrees. I was stuck in the cold with my 5-year-old son. When I called for assistance, the representative suggested I use the fireplace--clearly unaware it wasn't functional. I had to isolate myself and my son in one room with a small space heater until a technician could fix the HVAC system. Even after the repair, issues persisted. Certain rooms wouldn't heat or cool properly. It turned out that the ducts in the attic weren't connected, causing the HVAC system to overwork, which likely led to the initial breakdown. Things didn't improve as the weather warmed up. I discovered that the outdoor water spigots on both sides of the house weren't functioning. After another service call, I learned the water lines had also been disconnected and capped--just like the gas line to the fireplace. Throughout all of this, I tried contacting the local property manager for help. She never answered her phone, her voicemail was full, and she didn't respond to emails--even after I escalated the issue to corporate customer service. As if things couldn't get worse, the popcorn ceiling in multiple rooms began falling due to record heat and poor maintenance. The first repair attempt was a disaster. The technician did a quick, tacky plaster job on one small area and left, claiming he had another job in 30 minutes. Thankfully, the second repair was much better. Ralph, the technician, was professional, pleasant, and thorough. He explained the likely reasons for the ceiling issues and suggested a better repair method. He carefully patched the areas and matched the popcorn ceiling texture as best as possible. While the entire ceiling still needs to be redone, Ralph did excellent work and treated the situation with care. The core problem with FirstKey Homes seems to be poor management and rushed repairs. Technicians like Ralph show that quality work is possible, but the company needs to prioritize giving its staff the time and resources to do the job right. Unfortunately, my overall experience has been far too negative to recommend FirstKey Homes to anyone. read more

ON Jan 3, I requested a least transfer for the second time due to various issues. Specifically my son had an injury in 2022 (first request) leaving him confined to a wheelchair and the 2 story home posed SOOOO many challenges. I was denied the request and told I had to first move out of the property and clear the home in order to be considered for a lease transfer. That would have been too challenging as I was then tasked with the care of my newly disabled son. I also cited safety concerns due to multiple recent car break ins and a recent drive-by shooting for which my son was shot in the leg by a stray bullet that came in through the window. There was also a slab leak in the home since 2020 that maintenance refused to repair despite my complaints about the high utility bill. My housing issue was not pressing for the individuals that I expressed my need as I was given obstacle after obstacle that hindered the process for mid lease transfer which is evident in my email traffic. On February 14, 2025, without a stable and safe place to live my son committed suicide. Prior to that date I was told that he was removed from the lease and I was advised to add him to the lease and a decision would be made. I added him to the lease after a series of emails pleading with my property manager citing every reason I wouldn't be able to move. To date I have yet to receive any feedback on my request. My current lease ends in July. That mid lease transfer request was placed to the side due to a plumbing leak which had been identified since 2020, that now all of a sudden was approved for repair. On 03/11/2025 the home water line was replaced and the entire home was repiped. I was told 3 billing cycles had to pass before I could receive any credit for any billing errors; conveniently 4 months from my lease ending. SO now after meeting all of your request from January I'm left with a dead son, a lease ending in July 2025, and overpayment by me of utility bills since 2020 (bills totaling $200+ a month for water/sewage which for years I was told was a normal amount. Then when I ask about my reimbursement for years of paying for a slab leak over these years, I'm told you only can grant me reimbursement for 3 months. read more

We have not rented a home in well over 15 years, so when we decide to sell our house and rent we were unsure of what to expect. From the very first interaction with the FirstKey team we were completely put at ease. When Elizabeth called my wife and I to let us know the home was ready for move in, she took the time to answer any questions that we had and even provided her contact number, should we need it. Knowing that she made herself personally available for us, provided great comfort as we were just getting things started with FirstKey. The following day when we discovered that the water had not been turned on yet as there was an issue with the city, the full power and teamwork of FirstKey was evident. Merideth had reached out to see how our move in was going, before we could even open a workorder for the water being off, once we notified her, she immediately started working on the situation. As we were moving a few small things into the house, we got a knock on the door, it Sasha who was in town assisting the team with some move in tasks, remove the lockbox from the door, doing additional inspections of the home etc. As we were introducing ourselves to him, and mentioning that we did not have water on yet, he jumped on the phone and got in touch with Sonya who is our region's Property Manager. Quickly Sonya and Meredith were able to connect and between the two of them they got the city to address the problem and we had water turned on within a very short period of time. Fast forward to the following day and we received a call from Stephanie, she had gotten notified that there was an issue with the city and getting the water turned on the day prior. She called us to see what she could do to help us out with the situation. It was another example of the teamwork and thoroughness that we have experienced from the FirstKey team. We could not be any more pleased with our experience so far and are looking forward to working with the FirstKey team over the next year.. Or longer. We highly recommend FirstKey to anyone looking for someone to partner with when it comes to renting a home read more

Dear FirstKey Homes Management, I am writing to express my deep disappointment with my rental experience through your company. After being a faithful tenant for one full year, always paying my rent on time and never once being late, I had expected a level of professionalism and respect in return. Unfortunately, my experience has been the opposite. In addition to poor communication, I experienced several unfair charges. I was charged for weeds despite submitting pictures proving the yard was properly maintained. At that time, your representative assured me that the charge would be refunded, yet no refund was ever issued. I was also charged for an insurance violation, which turned out to be an error on your company's end, but again, I never received the promised reimbursement. Now, as I close my lease, my reimbursement from prorated rent is being withheld, and this amount was not properly calculated or reflected in my final bill. To make matters worse, at the end of my lease, the rent was raised by an unreasonable amount, only for me to discover that the same property is now listed publicly at seventy-five dollars more than my monthly rent. This makes it clear that loyal, responsible tenants are not valued, while new renters are charged even higher rates. The move-out inspection was also unnecessarily difficult and stressful. Rather than a fair evaluation, the inspection focused on highlighting the smallest of minor issues, making the process feel punitive rather than professional. After maintaining my rental responsibly for a full year, I was shocked at the level of scrutiny applied to trivial matters. I entered this lease in good faith, believing FirstKey Homes to be a company that valued its tenants. Instead, I leave with the worst rental experience I have ever had. I strongly urge your company to address these practices immediately--specifically, tenant communication, fair billing and refunds, and the treatment of long-term tenants. Loyal tenants should not be disregarded, overcharged, or denied rightful reimbursements. Sincerely, A Former Tenant Warning Others read more

Their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction did not go unnoticed. It is evident that First Key Homes values its tenants and takes pride in delivering outstanding customer service. We feel grateful to be a part of a community that prioritizes tenant satisfaction. In light of this, we want to express our confidence in recommending First Key Homes to any friends or family who may be in search of a rental property. The level of service and commitment to tenant satisfaction that we have experienced makes us feel assured in sharing our positive experience with others. We have been residents at the property since 2019 and the consistent high level of service has been a significant factor in our continued satisfaction. We appreciate the peace of mind that comes with knowing that any concerns we may have will be addressed promptly and effectively. Thank you once again for your exceptional service. Sincerely, Serge Fils-Aime & Nathanee Martin read more

I'm so grateful that I read reviews and checked the BBB site for First Key Homes before even signing a lease. The experience we had with them was nothing short of exhausting and frustrating from the beginning. They seemed disorganized, and we constantly felt like we were getting the runaround. After submitting all required documents, they would repeatedly tell us they didn't have them, even though we had proof. Not once did we have a dedicated account rep--each time we reached out, we spoke to someone new who had no context for our situation. This inconsistency led to us spending hours on the phone, repeatedly explaining our case. During the week leading up to approval, the treatment we received was horrible. I made it a point to document every single interaction and conversation because it felt like we were getting jerked around at every turn. When we finally got approved, the last thing we wanted was to move forward with the lease because of how poorly we'd already been treated. But instead of a seamless process, we were bombarded with calls from First Key Homes up until the lease expired, adding even more stress to an already negative experience. Once we saw their priorities in action, it became clear they were solely focused on money, not on providing a good experience or quality service. They offered no clear answers on whether the property was move-in ready or if needed repairs would be addressed. When we asked if any maintenance or fixes would be completed before move-in, they said it was "on the agenda" but couldn't confirm anything. This lack of transparency and accountability was extremely discouraging. I would absolutely not recommend First Key Homes to anyone. This was the worst property management experience I've ever encountered. If I could sue them based on the treatment we received before even getting approved, I would. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of First Key Homes--they are not worth the hassle or the stress. read more

I've been in this house for awhile and some items that needed replacing or maintenance haven't always been done correctly by the third party vendors hired. Juan and Hugo (Actual FirstKey Maintenance Techs) came today and fixed several issues that had been ongoing for some time. One was as simple as turning up the hot water heater after the previous company turned it down when they were making a repair on it. They never turned it back up & we didn't know how to adjust the temperature. Juan took care of it within a couple minutes, making sure hot water reached the showers in the back of the house. They repaired a fallen down section of fence and made a repair to an exposed AC wire, protecting it against further issues when stray animals come around. They also made repairs to the electrical panel, and found two previous major repairs that need revisiting by third party vendors. These guys were thorough and they are so nice! Hugo has been out here several times before and my whole family just loves him. He's a bright young man with a friendly demeanor and professional attitude. Juan is quiet but very observant and insightful as to what might be causing an issue. Even when I'm flustered over an issue he's very calm, always confident that he can fix the problem. That's refreshing! He came out to our house once before and did an awesome job fixing some plumbing in the master bathroom. Since we Moved here in 2019 I can say these two are my fave FirstKey maintenance techs. They always do a fantastic job. Thank you!!! I also want to mention that their maintenance team has really been doing a fantastic job of late. When I first moved in a few years ago there were some struggles. I had heard they really wanted to step up their maintenance process and make things easier for tenants and make the repair process more efficient. I can see they have made great strides. And these two in particular are 5 star Fantastic! read more

Disappointed and Disheartened by FirstKey Homes' Service I've had several negative experiences with FirstKey Homes over the years, but this latest one has been especially disheartening. I recently received a $105 charge for a "missed appointment" to repair my stove. While I did schedule the appointment, I never received any confirmation that a technician had been assigned or that someone would actually be coming to my property. For the past three years, I've consistently received confirmation emails with appointment details for every scheduled repair. This time, there was nothing. Given that, I don't believe it's fair to classify this as a no-show on my part. I've recently returned to working in the office and would have absolutely arranged personal time if I had known the appointment was confirmed. As a responsible and committed tenant, I respectfully requested that the fee be waived -- only to be met with a firm and immediate "no." It doesn't appear that my concern was escalated beyond the initial customer service representative, and the lack of consideration was deeply disappointing. While I understand technicians aren't required to call ahead, I did expect timely and clear communication -- especially since I checked the tenant portal multiple times and saw no updates or alerts. No service was performed, and the original stove issue remains unresolved. Now I'm being unfairly charged $105 and worry I'll be charged again once someone finally comes to do the repair. The entire situation feels dishonest -- as if the company is profiting from residents without fulfilling their obligations. I'm sharing my experience as a cautionary note for current and potential tenants. I had higher expectations of FirstKey Homes, but this incident has significantly changed how I view the company and its approach to customer care. read more

The way this company treats a disabled veteran is beyond despicable. I'm a renter with Firstkey Homes in Dekalb County, GA. 30058. I applied for, and was accepted for one home but was told it is currently being made ready, and I would be able to tour in one month. The day before, at 5:56 PM, I get a voicemail saying the home isn't ready nor will it ever be. I was put into the position of be homeless, or go with another Firstkey home. The only other available home was move-in ready, and we went with it. I was meant to move-in 02-14-24, but the home had no heat and a rat infestation. The heat was resolved the evening of 02-29-2024 and the rat infestation wasn't resolved until 12-06-2024. This home also had no AC and the technician sent to fix it told me that because it was cooling by 2 degrees that it was functional and Firstkey wouldn't make any repairs to a functioning AC. I have spent my entire residency here being overcharged on utilities and other issues, to spend at least two months to receive a credit just for something else to break, and the process starts over again. Their entire customer support staff is overseas contractors that tell you they're doing X or Y, but they're just making an online ticket you already can do. Calling the support does absolutely nothing. Any non manager you speak with will treat you like dirt. The managers I have worked with do seem to genuinely care, but when you're a cog in a multi-billion dollar corporation, you have no choice but profit margin. I would tell you to not rent with Firstkey Homes, but they at least repaired things eventually. I've made my situation known to the BBB and I have tried everything in my power not to make my personal issues public, but I'm at my limit. If this is how they treat disabled veterans, God knows this is how they treat everyone. read more

We had issues with our AC unit being undersized, which was bad for the summer we moved in. While First Key Homes sent multiple visits for technicians to verify that was the case, they held their end of the bargain and upsized our unit to a correct size! We had Patrick and Sonny come over to perform this whole install and they were done within a short period! They made an amazingly clean install as well! They insulated the condenser lines and cleaned up our AC closet while at it too!Patrick and Sonny were also the technicians who verified we had an undersized unit immediately after troubleshooting! They went above and beyond taking care of us and our situation. They left us with a temporary portable AC unit to get us through the summer heat and until the unit was replaced! When the unit couldn't get below 83 degrees during the hot summer heat, it is now reaching the low 70s! Patrick and Sonny were super understanding and very respectful as well throughout the whole process! They helped us make sure that the unit was above the normal performance so we could deal with brutal summer heat! I could not recommend the First Key Homes Maintenance Team enough! They worked very hard to make sure we were taken care of. First Key Homes residential also made sure to us updated and filled us in on details! Our property manager Erica Cabrera also came in to help speed the process up, so we are very grateful to First Key Homes Residential for going above and beyond as well! I am very much excited to stay as a resident with First Key Homes as well! Our family couldn't be any more happy and pleased with how First Key Homes (Residential and Maintenance teams!) handles their work! read more

I regret that I must leave a negative review, but the level of service I received has left me no choice. I lived in the home for three years and consistently paid my rent, even while dealing with unresolved work order issues that contributed to significantly high electric bills. Despite these challenges, I was interested in renewing my lease. However, I was offered a renewal with a $300 increase, which was not in line with comparable market rates in the area. I attempted to negotiate with a representative from the renewals department and clearly communicated that I would not be renewing if the rate could not be adjusted. Unfortunately, I was not informed that a written notice was required regardless of this conversation. After trying to work with FirstKey and being unable to secure an affordable rate, I submitted my notice and moved out. Before leaving, I had the home professionally cleaned and the carpets steam cleaned. Despite this, I received a move-out statement citing insufficient notice and am now receiving collection notices. This experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. I had hoped to continue living in the home, and this outcome feels punitive. The lack of communication, flexibility, and customer care has been disheartening. What I initially dismissed as negative reviews from disgruntled tenants now appears to reflect genuine issues. I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and would not recommend this company based on my experience. The focus seems to be on profit rather than people, and the absence of a personal touch in customer service is evident. read more

We rented this property for 7 years, and our experience was marked by ongoing maintenance issues, poor communication, and lack of follow-through. From move-in, there were clear quality concerns. The kitchen countertops and master tub had been resurfaced poorly, leaving rough, difficult-to-clean surfaces. There were also visible gaps throughout the home that allowed pests to enter. Maintenance response times were consistently slow. It took approximately 3 years and numerous requests to replace a failing A/C unit. The roof had damage present at move-in but was not replaced until several years later, after a hurricane. Requests related to leaks, mold concerns, and other issues often took weeks to address, if at all. We also experienced frequent no-shows from maintenance personnel, requiring us to take time off work without resolution. Work that was completed was often substandard--for example, painted toilet seats instead of replacement prior to move-in. Communication was a recurring issue. Calls and voicemails frequently went unanswered, including repeated attempts regarding termite concerns. When preparing to move, there were delays in providing rental verification despite completing the requested authorization. Rent increased regularly over the years, including a significant increase at one point, and lease renewal terms created pressure to commit far in advance or face higher rates. After 7 years, these patterns did not improve. Future tenants should carefully consider expectations around maintenance quality, response times, and communication before signing a lease. read more
