I had a severe heel pain of my right leg for weeks and my husband made an appointment to see Dr. Cohn. He was his patient. I dealt with 3 people during this appointment and don't know the names of 2, the receptionist and the medical assistant to Dr. Cohn. I arrived on time at 1pm. While the receptionist was friendly, the medical assistant was soft spoken. Perhaps I am going deaf so I wasn't listening to instructions well. After the Xray before meeting Dr. Cohn, I was seated on a raised comfy chair. I was then told that the wait would be awhile. THAT took 40minutes. I prompted Dr. Cohn as to why the long wait. He was on a phone call with his boss. All I can say is I hope that call helped his issues while taking up my time (I should be charging him for the wait). After discussing what my issue was, he told me that I have tendonitis and that entails professional physical therapy, self exercise, Imodium medication, a pair of $55 "out of pocket" shoe inserts (ouch!) and a foot brace. The medical assistant asked what shoe size I wear and brought in a foot brace and the inserts. She took out the brace n fitted it on the "injured" foot. She DID NOT demonstrate on the use of all the buckled and velcro straps in details but did stress that my heel has to sit right up at the L of the brace. After examining the shoe insert, I decided that I was not in a hurry to invest in that and that a cheaper good quality version of that can be bought from Walmart, CVS or Walgreens. I picked up my Imodium and after arriving home, I tried the brace but could not figure out some of parts of the brace. Thank goodness for the You Tube channel, I found a demonstration on how to use the brace. I wonder how much I would have to pay for the brace after insurance deductions. The medical assistant needs to be told that some patients are not technology savvy and would not know to go to sources to see how gadgets are used. She seemed bored with her job. Dr cohn amazing reception Deann awesome however receptionist Kelly needs to learn about HIPPA regulations she decided to discuss my husband account in the open with other patients in the waiting arean unacceptable umm I'm a receptionist in the health care field I accept co pays and ask is there anything else they would like to pay I never go into details about their past dues etc we have a billing department for that if kelly chooses to embarass patients about their past due balances maybe she should go to coding and billing but this is not her job she is a receptionist unless the patient ask about their balances or your trying to help them. You cant send my husband his bill via email because of HIPPA but you can discuss it out in the open with out him asking to make a point to him not knowing if we have a financial situation with a sick child etc its called stick to being a receptionist!!! First Step is hands down The very best podiatrists and Surgeons around. I've had the pleasure of using 2 of them. Dr. K Cohn and Dr M. Ferrari they virtually saved my life and most of my left foot. Dr Cohn has been my podiatrist for over 3 years now I trust him implicitly. I also trust Dr. Ferrari he has been extremely important to me. Because he worked on my father. His bed side manor and temperament have been a God send dealing with my Father, plus Dad loved him and listened to him. I have had reoccuring back issues and thought my foot ache was related to that....after x-rays and consultations it diagnosed as an inflamed Achilles tendon! Dr. Ferrari recommended ice and a cream 4 times a day and in 24 hours I have substantial relief...excellent care and a friendly staff made the whole experience very pleasant read more

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Flood and the entire staff at First Step Foot Care. Our son is a patient of Dr. Flood's and, during a routine visit, Dr. Flood noticed an irregular spot on our (then 6 year old) son's leg. Dr. Flood biopsied it and the pathologists who reviewed our son's case *raved* about Dr. Flood's "catch" on this. We believe that Dr. Flood saved our son's life. While ours is a rather unique story - I wanted to share it to give Yelpers an idea of what Dr. Flood and his staff is really like. Dr. Flood treats the whole person -- he is a genuinely caring and kind doctor and a skilled surgeon. These things don't always go together :-) But, with Dr. Flood they do. I would recommend Dr. Flood's office to anyone looking for a podiatrist you can trust and feel confident about. The office staff is great, too. Booking appointments is easy (they have a very cool text message system reminding you of appointments) and the multiple locations make things very convenient. We've seen Dr. Flood in the Wauconda and Lake Zurich location and both are great. We highly recommend Dr. Flood and his practice! read more

I am so thankful to Dr. Flood and everyone at First Step Foot care for all of their help. Everyone in the office is so friendly and made getting in for an appointment extremely easy. Dr. Flood is an excellent doctor who helped me to overcome a severe case of plantar fasciitis that other doctors had not been able to resolve. I actually had plantar fasciitis in both feet a couple of years before this and was able to improve it with physical therapy and orthotics. However, this time it came back in my left foot so much worse than before, and those things were no longer helping. In fact after many months of physical therapy, the pain seemed to be getting worse, and I could barely walk. Dr. Flood is so friendly and he took the time to really talk with me about my history and the pain I was having. I know from experience that it isn't always easy to find a doctor who will actually spend time with you. He explained how he had different recommendations for the type of therapy I would be getting and prescribed a brace, a stretching device, and a medicated cream all of which made a big difference in my healing. Even when I had a reaction to my medication, he met with me again to find out what was happening and made adjustments to the medication formula, which ended up doing the trick. It took some time and work, but after a couple of months, the pain in my foot went away. I am now able to walk and exercise without any pain at all and am so grateful to Dr. Flood and the staff at First Step Foot Care for getting my life back. read more

I have only had one encounter with First Step Foot Care in Wauconda, and it was excellent. I have seen 2 other podiatrists in the last 4 years in the area and both were eager to do surgery...and I was not. Dr Kellen Cohn concurred that surgery would be completely unnecessary. My appointment was to update my orthotics. He showed me 7 different kinds and brands. None of them were what I was use to, so he gave me a referral to a custom orthotic and prosthetic place. I found his sincerity for the patients best interest wonderfully refreshing. He will now always be "my guy" for future foot and ankle issues. I cannot say enough GREAT things about Dr. Cohn and the staff at First Step Foot Care. As a parent with a special needs son who is not easy to take to any Dr. Appointment, Dr. Cohn and his staff at First Step Foot Care made my son's procedures and appointments to get his surgery so easy and fast. They helped coordinate a covid test and physical with his primary care Doctor to squeeze my son in for a procedure that most patients can have done at the office but given our sons disability it would make it impossible to do the procedure without sedation. I rarely post any reviews regarding my son but it is hard to find Doctors and staff that understand people with special needs and to treat him as kindly as they did and to give him the best care, I am speechless as to how impressed and THANKFUL my family is for the care Luke received. The staff at Good Shepard Hospital were also amazing and So kind to our son. A HUGE thank you to Dr. Cohn, the staff at First Step Foot Care and Good Shepard hospital. I had an injured toe nail which became a very painful ingrown toenail. I was able to see Dr. Cohn on the same day I called and got it taken care of. I was in and out of the office extremely quickly. Was able to get an appointment on short notice for callus removal. Very good foot care. Feel like a new person! I stand for most of my work shift, and have not had any more foot pain or discomfort since being seen at the clinic. Would recommend this facility very highly! read more

Dr Rahimi was one of the most rude doctors I have met. His staff was cordial and pleasant. He was uncaring to me, condescending, minimizing, and believed I needed no care. I went to another podiatrist who disagreed, said my problem was urgent and required immediate attention. I have never returned. read more

My name is Maggie Nolan and I wish to lend my support for Dr. Kellen Cohn and his team at the Wauconda, IL office of First Step Foot Care. They are fantastic - very pleasant, professional and accommodating. Lovely, clean and attractive offices - really pristine compared with some offices I have been in. Dr. Cohn has been just amazing in the care for my broken right foot. I came to him from an urgent care clinic. I knew of Dr. Flood's name, the senior partner, as I had taken my mother many years ago to see him. I was lucky enough to get a space with Dr. Cohn and be able to meet him, his medical assistant, Marilea and the other excellent staff members - both on the administrative and medical tech sides. They each in their own role served me greatly and always provided the best care at every appointment. They handle insurance filing and do it well - you do not always find that either in a medical office. Dr. Cohn is a gentle, kind, excellent diagnostician and surgeon. I could not believe I would have to have surgery on the 5th metatarsal on the right foot. Had no idea what to think - I had walked on the broken foot for over 10 days before realizing it was not healing. I have diabetes so any trauma to the feet or anywhere in the system is disconcerting. Dr. Cohn was very aware of my concerns and was always honest and encouraging during my recovery and leading into surgery. This evening came from my one and 1/2 year anniversary of the surgery. The X-rays proved what an excellent job he did in surgery and post care. The X-rays showed a complete healing of the break - you would not even know it had been there when compared to the views from a year ago. The screw in my foot that he put in for support has not shifted or moved in all this time. Excellent work from this layman's and patient perspective! I would highly recommend Dr. Cohn and the practice for any foot or ankle issue out there. He is very cognizant of his patient's needs - i.e. the complication of diabetes and his being a Rush graduate as well -- I had complete confidence. He is on the cutting edge with suggestions of therapy approaches and hooked me up with a treatment to enhance the blood flow to the area during recovery. I truly think it was an immense help in the healing process. Thank you, Dr. Cohn and to all of your staff. I am so grateful and thrilled to see how the bone has completely healed together!
