We recently had issues with the mini-split. I got an appointment with Alternative Aire to diagnose an issue with cooling. They sent a technician out who immediately diagnosed that we would need to replace the entire system (installed in 2021). Instead, we opted to have them add coolant to get the system running again until we could find a solution since Alternative Aire serviced our unit in Nov 2025. When the invoice came we found out a company called "Chill Brothers" had purchased Alternative Aire. Their new systems do not have any historical info and I was also told none of the former technicians remained. Needless to say, the system is not working again, less than a week after the service. Be aware when you are contacting Alternative Aire that they are under new ownership and unwilling to stand by the work they previously performed.

The Technical Issues: In 2020, Santa Air installed my trane system but failed to properly connect the emergency heat strips. I spent five winters wondering why my house wouldn't stay warm below 30°F. They missed this mistake during every subsequent maintenance visit over the 5 years. Recently, they tried to charge me $1,700 for repairs I didn't need. A second opinion confirmed their diagnosis was wrong; that technician fixed Santa Air's original installation mistake and the actual sensor issue for a total of $575. The Billing Issues: Their current pricing "tiers" (Bronze, Silver, Gold) are incredibly over-inflated compared to other local HVAC companies. And if you only need a repair included in the Gold tier, you have to pay for all the things you don't need in the tiers below it. When I realized the invoice was vague and the work wasn't needed, I cancelled. The Ethics Issue: The most disappointing part was the office's response. They tried to emotionally guilt-trip me. I also had Dave look at my upstairs attic furnace and they fixed the shoddy work that my home warranty company performed 1 year earlier. Come spring I had Dave come out and look at my AC units which the was the oldest unit and was not keeping it at the low temperature we wanted. He looked at it and had to add 2 lbs. to the unit and said it had a slow leak in it, but it did not need replacement just yet, maybe in about 2 or 3 years. Dave was on time and fixed everything that needed to be fix and explained the health of both furnaces and AC units. Good work and trust in a company is hard to come by.
